Illegal Combinations?

So, I've been lurking lately trying to get an idea of the future competitive world for DP, but keep coming across mentions of pokemon with certian movesets, such as Scheme/Tri Attack Togekiss, being "illegal". I tried searching but all I found was references of certian things being illegal rather than than any explanations. So I registered and here I am.

And now for the actual question:
Where can I find more info on these illegal combinations?

In general,

* Any combination of Emerald/FRLG/XD move tutor moves and new egg moves is illegal. Example: Scheme on Togekiss (egg) + Tri Attack on Togekiss (XD).
* Any combination of egg moves such that one father cannot have them all at one time to pass them down to the child, is illegal. Example from Advance: Whirlwind + Drill Peck Skarmory, because the fathers for Whirlwind and Drill Peck were different and only the father could pass down egg moves. Note that this isn't illegal in DP thanks to Fearow.
* Any egg moves and purification moves from Coliseum/XD.

There are others, but those are the major categories.

Ah, so illegal means basically any combinations that are technically impossible to get in game. Thanks for the quick and informative reply.

What about the Ditto "glitch". If it ends up remaining in the non Japanese versions, will people still call Pokemon like Hypnosis+Brave Bird Crobat illegal?

Yes, it is not something meant to be in the game. I have a hypnosis + whirlwind crobat on mine lol. Why would it be legal?

Futhermore, is Wi-Fi going to be able to recognize these illegal combos? How exactly does that work anyway? Does it simply check your pokemon for impossible IVs, EVs, stats, or movesets and then bar you from entering?

I hope not, if it does, its gona suck

Becouse you will ALL die to my...

Scope Lens'd Spacial Rend Sniper Kingdra of D00M!!!!

I think that if the Ditto glitch reamins in the non Japanese version, then it wasnt really a glitch but rather a breeding adittion brought into DP. That's just what I think though, can't really say until the game is released.

I'm pretty sure it wasn't intended to happen lol. If gamefreak knows about this glitch (they probably do) then obviously they are going to get rid of it. But I do see your point on making it legal if they dont change it.

The games themselves cannot check for illegal move combinations because it would preclude the option of other games adding tutors or some other move option. That said, this is why friend codes exist: don't fight randoms using spacial rend Mewtwo.

So, that being said there is absolutely no way of stopping people from playing Wi-Fi with obscenely hacked pokemon? I know the games themselves can't check anything but I heard the Wi-Fi service could, guess it was just a rumor though.

Does PBR itself check, or does the central server that you connect to for wifi check? There's a major difference there. And I wonder, if it's the former, can it be updated somehow? Interesting thought...

Don't forget Pokemon who Bypass former "Illegal" moveset: Pokemon who can breed with Smeargle (Sketch allows this).

Note: Special Events can give pokemon certain moves like NYPC, or the new Surf Pikachu from PBR, while still making certain movesets sets illegal- Ie: Scheme is illegal with Surf on Pikachu, due to only Pichu learning Scheme.

I think a distinction needs to be made between the Transform trick/glitch and the Mimic trick/glitch.

AFAIK the Transform trick is where a Transforming Pokemon (Ditto/Mew) is able to temporarily keep the moves of whatever it Transformed into. This, in itself, isn't entirely gamebreaking; it just allows all "Drill Peck + WW type" combos possible through breeding.

Whereas the Mimic trick allows Transform to be Mimicked and through the Transform trick any Pokemon with Mimic can learn any move.

That's how I understand it but perhaps somebody who actually has the game and has done the trick(s) can shed more light on the matter.

I get the logic behind Mew. It is technically supposed to learn all moves according to it's Pokedex data (well it has the DNA of every pogey, right?).

*Shudders at Belly Drum + Baton Pass Mew*

Actually if you get the Pichu from pokemon box and then send it off to D/P its legal:P

The Ditto glitch is someting that'll probably be widely debated to the point of a vote someday.

You mean the Mimic Glitch, the Ditto Trick was intentionally programmed into the game.
Although the Mimic Glitch builds off of the Ditto Trick.

I'm sorry, but could we please stop posting things like:

without any actual proof? If you want to see how 'intentional' it is, wait for the American release.
