I want to talk about why evasion has been banned in past games and why it should be allowed for this one. I'm just going say my piece and If certain people want to get their panties in a wad just because i wanted to do so, I guess its their right.
The argument i see most against evasion is that "it makes the game luck based" which i can understand to a certain extent for the older generations but i believe there is one fatal flaw in the argument that such traditions should continue, in fact there are several.
HAZE!
Aerial Ace
Shock Wave
Swift
Faint Attack
Aura Sphere
Vital Throw
Defog
Shadow Punch
Magical Leaf
Lock-On
Psych-Up
Yawn(not sure)
Heart Swap
Miracle Eye
Magnet Bomb
Mind Reader
It looks like theres a whole lot of moves that can be used to counter evasion or even turn it around on somebody else.
Aside from that the luck argument seems questionable to me when moves with lousy accuracy like stone edge and hypnosis are so popular. Isnt the use of stone edge luck based? I've used it, and its not really reliable. Again a double standard is seen. To me it seems the "luck based" argument has less merit than ever.
Many people would say "mind reader/lock on sucks" well they dont if they're needed to cover evasion. I cant believe people can tell me that i and everyone else need to build a team centered around countering pokemon like tyranitar, garchomp and blissey ect. but no one should have to create a strategy for countering evasion. so its okay to centralize the metagame around a small group of overpowered pokes but not to have strategy centralize on countering evasion? Okay, gotcha.
I think people fail to see the positive effects allowing evasion could have like having a broader list of standards for one. And a big one would be far less whoring of hidden power I never liked how its been used and really, before Wi-Fi came along did anyone really take the time to breed a pokemon with perfect 70 power Hidden power with the right type as well as the desired nature to boot? Do they do it even now? Not without action replay i don't think. With people having to include evasion countering movesets, moveslots become precious and more pokemon may actually have weaknesses that dont involve something that utterly walls it or just outspeeds and obliterates it. No more free water/grass/ice HP on electrics. If it doesn't learn any real moves of said type. Its toast. No more countless pokemon whose weaknesses cant be attacked because it can choose an attack type that all but a few of its type have no buisiness possessing.
It just seems to me that the argument people use to ban evasion is false. And allowing it might bring some strategy into the game that goes a bit deeper than simply using stat ups to sweep a team. which is all i ever saw in advance netbattle and all i am seeing currently on shoddy.
im not being hostile i just want a better argument than the ones Ive seen in the past and will likely see with the introduction of competitor. Because the luck idea is false.
EDIT: yes i screwed up the title, i will await your lawsuits and burning stake.
