I'm Kinda New to This...

If my title doesn't explain it all, I don't know what will.
This is my first time actually posting a competitive team online, so I know the criticism will be good :)
To get started, My name is William, I'm 15 years old and have been playing since I was 12
I have always been fascinated with the games and always hated the animes (go figure.)
My friend actually introduced me to the basics of competitive battling,
so I have a baseline idea of what this is SUPPOSED to be like.

Okay, now to the team:

*Yes, I know. There are two gastrodon...i got bored and raised two of them. Both of them are exactly the same with exception of a few IV points*

I started building this team earlier this month, and I have been playing with them on PO for about two weeks or so...They've done fairly well, but I can always use the criticism to make them even better!
*One of my biggest problems is my un-established lead (it changes often) Please, help me decide*

Zoroark@Choice Specs
Ability: Illusion
EV's: 16 HP, 240 SpAtk, 252 Spd
Nature: Timid
~Flamethrower
~Dark Pulse
~Grass Knot
~Focus Blast

Illusion is one of my favorite abilities, so it seems right to have Zoroark on my team. He masquerades as my Heracross I have, to form the strong combination that Heracross and Zoroark have. They cover up each others weaknesses and exploit it like crazy; Zoroark (as Heracross) brings in Psychics that do no damage when Illusion is lifted, and sends them flying with Dark Pulse. Flamethrower, Focus Blast and Grass Knot are for type coverage to hit a majority of its main opponents for decent damage. They function as backup moves in the event that the pokemon hitting the illusion isn't Psychic. About the EV's, I know normally it has 4 HP, but I find that investing in the 12 extra HP can save you in the long run! Since the ever popular Zoroark move, Sucker Punch, is not featured on this set, I chose a Timid nature to get an even higher Speed stat.

Tentacruel@Black Sludge
Ability: Rain Dish
EV's: 252 HP, 240 Def, 16 Spd
Nature: Bold
~Scald
~Toxic Spikes
~Rapid Spin
~Protect

Oh Tentacruel, IMO the best support Pokemon for me :) You can withstand many hardships and toils, and you still manage to drop some Toxic Spikes down to annoy the crap out of my opponents. It's ability, Rain Dish, is useless unless your opponents favor the rain, but when its is raining, Scald and your HP are happy :) Toxic Spikes and Rapid Spin should be Tentacruel's signature competition moves, because that's all I use her for mainly. I need some help re-distributing my EV's so I can get at least 2 layers of Toxic Spikes everytime. So please feel free to help! Protect was chosen over Ice Beam for her, just for safety I chose a scouting move over a risky damage move. I also chose Black Sludge over Leftovers, mainly for the Item Clause AND because I wanted to be different ;)

Spr_3r_049.png

Venomoth@Leftovers
Ability: Tinted Lens
EV's: 252 HP, 4 SpAtk, 252 Spd
Nature: Timid
~Quiver Dance :D
~Bug Buzz
~Sleep Powder
~Baton Pass

BATON PASS!!!!! My favorite typ of competitive pokemon (second to Paraflincher, that is >:D) Yes, I know I have two Bug pokemon on my team, but trust me this rarely blows up in my face. Quiver Dance is the light in the darkness for Venomoth, who previously was thought to be "just another Bug." I chose Venomoth for its coolness value and its access to Sleep Powder, Baton Pass, and Quiver Dance. Using Sleep Powder to earn at LEAST two free turns to dance up a storm and if you time it right whenever the opponent wakes up you'll baton pass to the Pokemon in waiting (usually Nidoking or Gastrodon.) Bug Buzz, is my only attacking move, in case I get trapped or if I misjudge the timing...its power isn't bad at all after the two usual free turns I get and with Tinted Lens.

Gastrodon@Leftovers
Ability: Storm Drain
EV's: 252 HP, 4 SpAtk, 252 SpDef
Nature: Calm
~Recover
~Surf
~Ice Beam
~Earth Power

I've always liked Gastrodon, ever since Gen IV. It just looks cool in my opinion, and with its awesome stats, it makes it appropriate to have one! My Gastrodon, is a living tank, I guess you could call it amphibious (winkwinknudgenudge...I'm hoping you got the joke...water + ground = yeah okay I'll stop) Surf and Earth Power are the bread and butter of this set, using its bulk to withstand most attacks and then lash out with some awesome STAB. Ice Beam is for coverage against pesky Grass types that dare rear their ugly heads in my Gastrodon's presence. Recover is reliable health regeneration, along with Leftovers keep it alive and well. Storm Drain allows Gastrodon to easily pair up Venomoth, protecting Venomoth's Fire weakness, while Venomoth protects against Gastrodon's Grass problem. Also Gastrodon is the prime candidate (along with Nidoking for receiving the baton passed Quiver Dance.) YAY for synergy :D

Spr_5b_034.png

Nidoking@Life Orb
Ability: Sheer Force
EV's: 4 HP, 252 SpAtk, 252 Spd
Nature: Timid
~Ice Beam
~Thunderbolt
~Sludge Wave
~Earth Power

FINALLY! A Nature that Nidoking is actually benefitting greatly from. With it's crazy wide movepool filled with moves that cause additional effects, its perfect for receiving the ability. This Nidoking set absues the living out of its ability, and with the extra boost from Life Orb, it is definitely my best sweeper :) Sludge Wave and Earth Power are STAB moves, while Ice Beam and Thunderbolt hit a majority of the pokemon faced for at least neutral damage :) (I LOVE ME SOME BoltBeam!)

Spr_5b_214_m.png

Heracross@Choice Scarf
Ability: Swarm (o.O I'll explain later)
EV's: 4 HP, 252 Atk, 252 Spd
Nature: Adamant
~Megahorn
~Night Slash
~Close Combat
~Stone Edge

Zoroark's partner-in-crime and the perfect duo, rivaling PB+J. Sorry, after typing all of this, I'm getting a litte hungry...Anyway, Heracross is the obvious choice for the last slot, mainly as Zoroark's cover it lures in Psychics but is shut down in the process. This goliath beetle has Night Slash and Megahorn for Psychic coverage, in case it is called upon. As a physical sweeper, it has Close Combat, which has stupidly high power thanks to STAB, and Stone Edge to deal with Flying pokemon and the like. Oh yeah: Guts is only for intimidation and decepton, since most sets run Guts, most opponents don't risk afflicting Heracross with status, and if their ability isn't Guts and they don't burn, poision or paralyze said Heracross, then that's a even better outcome :)

Well there ya go. That's my team!
Can't wait to see the (hopefully) constructive criticism
Please hep me become better at this too, my friends are good, so I dont wanna look like a noob ;)
Thx Again!

Hi there, welcome to Smogon and nice team you have there. At a glance, I notice that you're a bit sun weak, as Sun boosted attacks can destroy a large portion of your team, and Tentacruel and Gastrodon won't last too long, despite resisting them. I suggest adding a Heatran to help fix this problem.

He has two Water pokemon WITH STAB Water attacks. Not every team needs a Heatran...

This team would probably be classified as hyper offense, and while Gastrodon is helpful because it screws over a ton of things, I'm not sure exactly what Tentacruel does for you. It doesn't seem like most of your Pokemon would last long enough to enjoy the benefits of setting Toxic Spikes.

Also, it might be worth changing Gastrodon's nature to Sassy (+SpDef, -Spd) and replacing Earth Power with Earthquake to better check Volcaronas and specially defensive Heatrans/Tyranitars.

im glad gastrodon is good :)
and sure I think i can change the nature!
i need help when it comes to tentacruels spot...he was just a supporter
any suggestions?

Give Venemoth focus Sash or even lum berry. Your only way to avoid being swept by latios is heracross or having zoroak be a pokemon the opponent would use a psychic move on. However I assume the opponent would just spam DM because of zoro.

Tentacruel without rain should probably run liquid ooze.

I would suggest taking out zoro for a poekmon that supplies your team with entry hazards and weather. Such as sp def Tyranitar with pursuit. Good Luck

Maybe a full-out offensive Timid LO Starmie with Hydro Pump/Thunderbolt/Ice Beam/Psychic? It could check things like Volcarona, Conkeldurr, Gliscor, Dragonite, etc. while being able to run over all sorts of things if it gets passed a Quiver Dance or two.

Could This replace Tentacruel?
