Hello Smogon Viewers! I made this UU team awhile back and I just felt that it would probably be a good idea to post it as an RMT to get feedback and simply to just share this team with the rest of the world. This is a VERY defensive and VERY stally team. So, if you do not enjoy either one of those two, you may want to stop reading and go onto another RMT. This team is great for laddering! I have not been laddering with this team lately, but when I was, I peaked at about 1850 on pokemon showdown UU ladder, which at the time was enough to get me into the top 20. Hopefully, if you use this team, you will do as well or even better than I have in my time with it. Thanks for reading and enjoy!
Background Info: I made this team the day that cofagrigus got moved up to UU. I saw all the defensive pokemon in the UU tier, and thought it would be a good idea to put them together into a functioning stall/defensive team.
Strategy: Because there is no weather except for hail in UU, this team revolves around setting up of hazards. Usually leading with bronzong will lead to a quick setup of stealth rocks, but setting up the spikes with roserade is going to have to be done when a special sweeper/wall are in the battle. After the hazards are setup, there is a choice. You could either choose to hazards shuffle the opponents pokemon with blastoise and snorlax, or just steadily grind down the opponents team until they eventually are killed off by hazards or poison/burn. You will also need to keep the pokemon on your team alive by abusing umbreons wish and healbell throughout the match. WHATEVER YOU DO DO NOT LET UMBREON DIE. Just don't.
Team Setup:
Roserade
Roserade (F) @ Black Sludge
Trait: Natural Cure
EVs: 252 HP / 120 Def / 136 SDef
Calm Nature
- Sludge Bomb
- Spikes
- Rest
- Giga Drain
Roserade was a GREAT last minute edition to this team. I had originally had nidoqueen, but I was in great need of a pokemon that could know spikes, so roserade was a very healthy alternative. Roserade works very well mostly because it is a very well rounded pokemon. Roserage has a good amount of potential to be offensive, yet it can work just as effectively as a specially defensive wall thanks to its naturally high Spd. Toxic Spikes and Spikes are once again the main reason that I use roserade on this team. Spikes are great to wear down the opponents pokemon on switches as well as limit switching and toxic spikes eliminate the threat of potential walls. Possible changes to roserade could be the addition of sludge bomb in the place of rest or giga drain, but I prefer the set as it is because rest is a good way to completely heal up roserade then switch out which eliminates ant status problems as well.
Umbreon
Umbreon @ Leftovers
Trait: Synchronize
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SDef
Bold Nature
- Wish
- Protect
- Heal Bell
- Foul Play
If I had to pick a single pokemon that would be the core of this team, it would be umbreon hands down. Without umbreon this team would be so much less threatening. The main function of umbreon on this team is painfully obvious, and that is to restore the hp of the other members of the team, and to heal any type of status problems that they may have. I used to run both moonlight over protect and toxic over foul play but because hail has been brought back to the lower tiers I had to change that because moonlight has become much less viable in uu because of it. Foul play is to stop any sweepers that may attempt to set up on umbreon. Umbreon is defensive because it walls threats of uu better as a max defensive variant.
Snorlax
Snorlax (M) @ Leftovers
Trait: Thick Fat
EVs: 252 HP / 56 Def / 200 SDef
Impish Nature
- Body Slam
- Rest
- Whirlwind
- Sleep Talk
I am going to start off by saying that my favorite pokemon in the world is indeed snorlax. Snorlax serves as the huge special wall on this team. Snorlax will sponge any special attack thrown at it and it's thick fat ability lets it be a great switch for roserade. Snorlax will do damage to the opponents team by wearing them down by either body slamming, or whirlwinding them out to cause damage by the hazards. The only thing special that threatens snorlax is expert belt aura sphere raikou. Thankfully, roserade is a good counter for raikou in most cases.
Cofagrigus
Cofagrigus @ Leftovers
Trait: Mummy
EVs: 252 HP / 200 Def / 56 SDef
Bold Nature
- Will-O-Wisp
- Haze
- Shadow Ball
- Rest
It is probably safe to say that cofagrigus is most of what makes up of the defensive core of this team. Cofagrigus's monster defenses make it a great counter to huge physical offensive threats such as heracross and flygon. The ability to will-o-wisp and cripple them is also a solid plus to the fact that cofagrigus can wall them anyway. Haze is also a great move in cofagrigus's pool. Cofagrigus can wall the opponent and stop and sort of stat changes that they have setup. Rest is also a great way to heal up its hp to full then switch out and be healed by umbreon.
Bronzong
Bronzong @ Leftovers
Trait: Levitate
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Def / 252 SDef
Sassy Nature
IVs: 0 Spd
- Stealth Rock
- Toxic
- Protect
- Gyro Ball
Bronzong makes a great lead for this team for many reasons. Leading off with bronzong gives you the first chance to use the best move in the game, stealth rocks. After the rocks are up you can make a switch out to whatever pokemon on the team you find best suited to wall your opponent. Bronzong is also very nice to wall things like dragondance kingdra and scarfed flygon. Because both of these threats have such high speed, bronzong can use a very powreful gyro ball to take them out, or at least reduce the risk of getting swept.
Blastoise
Blastoise (M) @ Leftovers
Trait: Rain Dish
EVs: 252 HP / 4 SDef / 252 Def
Bold Nature
- Scald
- Rapid Spin
- Roar
- Rest
And last but certainly not least, Blastoise. I am going to need to apologize for changing this part of my team so much. I tried out xatu for awhile and thought it had been working so I changed it because I thought it was a better alternative. But, it turns out without blastoise this team has an incredible weakness to pokemon like Darmanitan and Victini. And lets be honest, Xatu mostly just ends up dying anyway. So, the defensive blastoise set is beneficially this team for rapid spinning and haxard shuffling.
Threat List: Banded Heracross, Porygon-z
Alternative Options: It is possible to swap out xatu with a blastoise. This gives the team insurance that there will be no hazards setup in the game.
Conclusion: This team is a great stall team for uu that will work very well on the ladder and in standard play if you play it right. If there are any recomendations you have for me I will make sure to consider them and test them out. I would be HONORED if you stole this team. Thankyou for reading this and LIKING IT I really appreciate it. Happy Holidays. Like it!
