[OVERVIEW]

Infernape has a unique niche in NU thanks to its phenomenal set diversity. However, it usually opts for two sets, Choice Scarf and Choice Specs, both of which have many upsides. Specifically, Choice Scarf allows Infernape to revenge kill faster Pokemon like Munkidori, Inteleon, and Kilowattrel, while Choice Specs sets capitalize on Infernape's set ambiguity by unleashing a powerful Overheat or Fire Blast on the physical walls that Choice Scarf Infernape forces in. Additionally, Choice Scarf sets outspeed most other Choice Scarf users, such as Flygon, Munkidori, and Flamigo. However, Infernape faces competition against these exact Choice Scarf users due to them fitting on more teams easily. Additionally, Choice Specs sets can struggle to break through Pokemon like Altaria, Chandelure, and Basculegion-M due to their decent bulk and ability to take both of Infernape's STAB moves comfortably. Infernape also fights for a slot on teams with other Fighting-types, since Toxicroak reliably beats Water-types, Flamigo has access to recovery, Paldean Tauros-W can switch into Incineroar without fear of Knock Off due to being less item reliant than Infernape, and Paldean Tauros-F can easily fit Stone Edge to hit would-be checks like Altaria and Chandelure.

Flamethrower is preferred for its reliability, but Fire Blast is stronger, allowing Infernape to 2HKO foes like Gligar and Porygon-Z. Overheat allows Infernape to break through common walls like Galarian Slowbro and Gligar; However, Grass Knot offers a coverage move that hits Gastrodon, Vaporeon, and Basculegion-M super effectively. Focus Blast allows it to 2HKO foes like Porygon2 and Swampert while Aura Sphere can be used for not missing. Scorching Sands allows it to threaten Chandelure, which otherwise walls it, as well as bulky Poison-types like Alolan Muk. Infernape can run Vacuum Wave to pick off weaken targets like Flygon and Inteleon, but Switcheroo can cripple defensive walls like Galarian Slowbro, Vaporeon, and Bellibolt. U-turn can also be used to ease prediction, allowing Infernape to do some chip damage and bring a partner in against threats like Gastrodon and Diancie. Tera Fire boost Infernape’s Fire-type attacks allowing it to do major damage on threats like Munkidori and Tornadus while giving Infernape the ability to OHKO foes like Gligar and Galarian Slowbro with Overheat.

Grass-types such as Tsareena, Amoonguss, and Decidueye appreciate Infernape for checking Steel-types that they draw in like Copperajah and Bronzong; in return, they beat Water- and Ground-types like Vaporeon, Paldean Tauros-W, and Flygon. Infernape pairs nicely with wallbreakers like Substitute Basculegion-M, Flygon, and Toxtricity, since they handle special walls like Gastrodon, Diancie, and Milotic. Psychic- and Ghost-types like Munkidori, Galarian Slowbro, Scream Tail, Chandelure, and Basculegion-M can easily KO Infernape; thus, Dark-types like Overqwil, Alolan Muk, Scrafty, and Wo-Chien make for good partners, as they can easily handle them. Infernape appreciate hazard removers like Scyther, Altaria, and Tsareena allowing it to not be worn down by entry hazards. Due to Altaria, Basculegion-M, and Chandelure resisting or being immune to both of Infernape's STAB attacks, Infernape requires teammates that can threaten them like Sylveon, Toxtricity, and Diancie, respectively. Choice Scarf users like Flygon, Munkidori, and Flamigo can easily revenge killed it, so Infernape partners with switchins like Bronzong, Bellibolt, and Alolan Muk to handle them.

U-turns gives Infernape the ability to pivot while letting it chip down defensive tanks like Galarian Slowbro, Swampert, and Porygon2. Knock Off allows it to pressure foes like Gligar and Kilowattrel that rely on their item, as well as hits both Chandelure and Basculegion-M, but Stone Edge allows Infernape to beat Chandelure as well as Flying-types like Altaria, Galarian Articuno, and Tornadus. Switcheroo lets it cripple defensive tanks like Amoonguss, Bellibolt, and Vaporeon. Infernape can use Thunder Punch alongside Iron Fist for a power boost letting it threaten Water- and Flying-types like Inteleon, Basculegion-M, and Flamigo. Tera Fighting boost the power of Close Combat allowing Infernape to threaten a 2HKO on Alolan Muk, Diancie, and Gastrodon. Tera Dark powers up Knock Off and allows it to tank Psychic- and Ghost-type attacks from Munkidori, Uxie, Chandelure, Decidueye, and Brambleghast.

Choice Scarf Infernape often draws in Fighting-resistant foes like Galarian Slowbro, Gligar, and Sylveon. So it best partners with Flygon, Gastrodon, and Munkidori to check these switch-ins. Infernape can form a VoltTurn core with other pivots like Kilowattrel, Flygon, and Inteleon, since they can pressure defensive tanks like Vaporeon, Diancie, and Gastrodon. Additionally, they bring in foes like Bronzong and Amoonguss that Infernape can take advantage of. Bulky Water-types like Vaporeon, Gastrodon, and Milotic can act as blanket checks to its attacks and threaten Infernape back with their STAB attacks; thus, it pairs with Grass-types like Decidueye, Amoonguss, and Tsareena to check them. Steel- and Dark-types like Bronzong, Klefki, Overqwil, and Alolan Muk are great partners for Infernape, since they can beat Psychic-types like Munkidori, Uxie, and Galarian Articuno. Hazard removers like Altaria, Cramorant, and Tsareena allows Infernape to continuously switching in without getting worn down by hazards.

Infernape can run a Choice Band set letting it gain the upper hand against defensive tanks like Galarian Slowbro and Overqwil, but it’s very rarely seen due to being outclassed by other Fighting-types. Infernape can opt to run a Swords Dance or Nasty Plot set making it a excellent setup sweeper; however, it struggles to run all of the moves that it needs and is easily revenge killed by common Choice Scarf users like Munkidori, Chandelure, and Flygon. A lead set of Stealth Rock / Taunt / Endeavor or Encore / Mach Punch or Knock Off with a Focus Sash can be run on hyper offense teams to aid in both setting up and preventing entry hazards. Infernape can run a mixed set of Fire Blast or Overheat / Close Combat / U-turn or Stone Edge / Knock Off allowing it to threaten many walls like Sylveon, Galarian Slowbro, and Gastrodon; however, it gets revenge killed by faster foes like Kilowattrel, Munkidori, and Choice Scarf Flamigo, and due to being mixed, it often is a weaker and worse off wallbreaker than if it were to choose between just physical or special.

Checks and Counters
====

**Faster Threats and Priority Users**: Inteleon, Kilowattrel, and Scream Tail can outspeed Infernape and destroy it with their attacks, but none of them enjoy switching into Infernape’s STAB attacks. Choice Scarf users such as Flygon, Munkidori, and Chandelure are able to outpace and destroy non-Choice Scarf variants of Infernape. Infernape can be pick off by priority users like Shadow Sneak Decidueye and Aqua Jet Basculegion-M.

**Fire-resistant Pokemon**: Bulky Water-types like Vaporeon, Milotic, and Gastrodon can fairly tank Infernape’s attacks and threaten it back with their attacks, but none of can repeatedly switch against its Fighting-type attacks and they must be wary about Grass Knot variants. Offensive Water-types like Basculegion-M and Paldean Tauros-W can KO Infernape with their attacks and they can pick it off with Aqua Jet. Chandelure is immune to both of its STAB attacks and easily destroyed it; however, Chandelure doesn’t enjoy switching directly into either Scorching Sands and Knock Off. Basculegion-M can tank Infernape’s Fire-type attacks and immune to its Fighting-type attacks, but doesn’t enjoy tanking Grass Knot and Knock Off. While Altaria doesnt enjoy switching into Stone Edge variants it can easily resist both of Infernape’s attacks and easily destroy it. Diancie walls Infernape’s Fire-type attacks and Choice Specs sets, but doesn’t enjoy switching into Close Combat and Scorching Sands.

**Ground-types**: Flygon and Swampert can destroy it with their STAB attacks while freely setting up hazards: however, none of them enjoy directly switching into Infernape’s Fighting-type attacks. Gligar is notable for tanking Infernape's physical attacks very well and destroying Infernape with Earthquake, but Choice Specs sets prove problematic for it.

Pika134 sorry to tell you, especially after you’ve written all of this (thanks for that commitment btw), but the only Infernape sets we’ll do are scarf and specs. you may either write both sets or delete the rest of your sets but keep the scarf one. ping me when you’ve decided, and i’ll qc this as soon as possible. (every other set can go in other options, tho)

Infernape has a unique niche in NU thanks to its phenomenal set diversity. Mixed sets lets Infernape to threaten both physical and special walls like Galarian Slowbro, Avalugg, Gastrodon, and Porygon2. However, it usually opts for two sets, Choice Scarf and Choice Specs, both of which have many upsides. Band lets it have the ability to 2HKO Overqwil and Sylveon. Nasty Plot sets lets Infernape to put major pressure on special walls like Diancie, Bronzong, and Alolan Muk after a boost. Infernape is also a solid lead thanks to its better access to Stealth Rock while threatening foes with utility moves like Knock Off, Taunt, and Endeavor. (not listed sets now) Additionally, Choice Scarf sets outspeed most other Choice Scarf users, such as Flygon, Munkidori, and Flamigo. However, Infernape faces competition against these exact other Choice Scarf users like Flygon and Munkidori due to them fitting on more teams easily. **Water-types Fire-resistant Pokemon**: Bulky Water-types like Vaporeon, Milotic, and Gastrodon can fairly tank Infernape’s attacks and threaten it back with their attacks, but none of can repeatedly switch against its Fighting-type attacks and they must be wary about Grass Knot variants. Offensive Water-types like Inteleon, Basculegion-M and Paldean Tauros-W can KO Infernape with their attacks while the latter two can pick it off with Aqua Jet. (chandy nulls both of ape’s stabs but scorching sands & koff exist) (basc-m nulls fight & eats fire, but gknot & koff are annoying) (alt resists both stabs, tho it has to be cautious of stone edge) (dia resists fire n walls specs sets well but cc + scorch are annoying)

**Ground-types**: Flygon and Swampert, and Gastrodon can destroy it with their STAB attacks and while freely setting up hazards: however, none of them enjoy directly switching into Infernape’s Fighting-type attacks. Gligar is notable for tanking its Infernape's physical attacks very well and destroying Infernape with Earthquake, but Choice Specs sets prove problematic for it Gligar gets 1HKO by Nasty Plot sets after a +2 boost.

Infernape also fights for a slot on teams with other Fighting-types, (AC) since Toxicroak reliably beats Water-types, Flamigo has access to recovery, Paldean Tauros-W can switch into Incineroar without fear of Knock Off due to being less item reliant than Infernape, and Paldean Tauros-F has can easily fit Stone Edge to hit would-be checks like Altaria and Chandelure.

Scorching Sands allows it to threaten Chandelure, which otherwise walls it, as well as bulky Poison-types like Munkidori and Alolan Muk. For the last moveslot Infernape can run Vacuum Wave to picked off weaken targets like Flygon and Inteleon, but Grass Knot can beat Water-types such as Vaporeon and Gastrodon. Switcheroo can cripple defensive walls like Galarian Slowbro, Vaporeon, and Bellibolt. (u talked about gknot already + intro didnt make sense after removing a move here) U-turn can also be used to ease prediction, (ac) allowing Infernape to do some chip damage and bring a partner in against threats like Gastrodon and Diancie. Tera Fire boost Infernape’s Fire-type attacks allowing it to do major damage on threats like Munkidori and Tornadus while giving Infernape the ability to OHKO foes like Gligar and Galarian Slowbro with (is this overheat? flamethrower, or fire blast?).

Choice Scarf users like Flygon, Munkidori, and Flamigo Munkidori can easily revenge killed it, so Infernape partners with switchins like Bronzong, Bellibolt, and Alolan Muk to handle them.

U-turns gives Infernape the ability to pivot while letting it chip down defensive tanks like Galarian Slowbro, Swampert, and Porygon2. Knock Off allows it to pressure foes like Gligar and Kilowattrel that rely on their item, (ac) as well as hits both Chandelure and Basculegion-M, but Stone Edge allows Infernape to beat Chandelure as well as Flying-types like Altaria, (ac) Galarian Articuno, (ac) and Tornadus.

[STRATEGY COMMENTS]
Other Options
====

**Faster Threats and Priority Users**: Inteleon, Kilowattrel, and Scream Tail can outspeed Infernape and destroy it with their attacks, but none of them enjoy switching into Infernape’s STAB attacks.
