Welcome to the forums! Yep, there are a ton of different tiers for you to explore. If you like to use very powerful Pokemon, such as Xerneas and Mewtwo, Ubers is the place for you. Maybe you prefer a metagame centered around Pokemon like Magnezone and Gardevoir. If so, OU is a great tier to check out. Feel free to send me a PM if you want to know more about the different tiers, and I'll help you to the best of my ability. How's it going? Computer science is a really interesting field to me, as I think it's really cool how a few lines of code can create a game like Pacman. I started playing Pokemon with the third generation, and soon after I received Torchic in Emerald, I was hooked. I jumped around various generations after the third until the same friend who introduced me to Emerald got me started with Showdown, and a few months after that I joined Smogon. Nice to meet you! I haven't been playing for as long as some of the people here, but I've been playing for about five years or so. Since you are new to competitive battling, I would recommend taking a look at the Battling 101 Program, which is aimed at users looking to learn more about battling and improve their skills. If you're interested, wait for the next round sign-ups thread to open and post your apprentice application in the format specified in the first post. This thread is also a valuable resource you could use. I would also suggest you get involved with one or more of the chatrooms in Showdown to join the competitive community. If you need anything else, don't hesitate to use the Smogon Simple Questions thread or the other SQSA threads. Have a nice day!
Well if you want to learn more about competitive battling I can help you out with anything that you would need just let me know. I'm not the best on the competitive scene but I know the basics and would gladly help out a new user with anything. This site actually has plenty to offer and if you like to trade I recommend trying out the wifi forum. It was the first place that I started on and I actually like the wifi forum a ton. I think the pokemon story is pretty great it may not be in depth as some other games when it comes to story like the ace attorney series or the zelda franchise but pokemon still has a pretty solid story. If you need something please let me know and I would be glad to serve and help out.
Sadly I don't think pokemon yellow holds up well today compared especially compared to the other pokemon games. Heartgold and soulsilver are part of my favorite generation. I love generation 4 and think very highly of generation 4. One of my favorite tiers has to be RU I think the RU tier is great. Plus I think the tier is very balanced and even if you use terrible pokemon like claydol you still have a chance. By the way FYI I think Claydol is a great hazard and hazard removal user to anyone out there reading this. The strategy dex in my opinion is great. If you need help with anything please let me know:)
My real name is Andrew. Diamond was also one of my first pokemon games that I played and in general as a whole I think generation four is the best and is my favorite. Black 2 and White 2 are amazing games and provide probably the best story seen in pokemon in my opinion along with the under appreciated black and white. X and Y is ok though I personally thought it could have been a lot better and ORAS was a great game as well. If you need help with some tips on competitive battling do feel free to let me know. I would help you out with some basics if you need.

Hi welcome to smogon. I played OU doubles for a while and I actually did Really well with some average Pokemon. Meowstic is a very underrated Pokemon in the doubles metagame if you ask me. It has prankster quick guard safeguard and other useful moves. If you need help with anything let me know and I'll try to help out anyway I can. Good luck
Yeah i tried meowstic in one of my Doubles teams but my favorite combo is mega gengar with perish song politoed and AV ludicolo.

I'm a 4th year medical student, and I decided to start from scratch all over again because I got bored of all the RPGs I've been playing. Hiii everyone, this is my first time on the forums, though I did use smogon for teambuilding a while ago. I'm 13, as well as that being my lucky number (I can tell you how). I first got into the mons at 9 I think, when I got soulsilver. My god I loved pokemon. I got interested in competitive at 11, as I had found FonzalWill's teambuilding guide. I actually started trying to be competitive when I was twelve (I sucked, I'm no prodigy) and then took a backseat to the whole thing as I had some backlash with 6th gen and a disinterest in pokemon (that's about when I got into competitive smash). Now I'm back and playing through Omega Ruby, and using pokemon showdown to experiment. I have no interest in breeding or EV training for myself, it's just wasting time when you could easily get whatever you wanted.

I'm 17 years old and a huge VGC player. I used to play OU alot though on Showdown until summer 2014 and I may have a slight interest in playing it again. I'm aware of how much the format has changed since then and could definitely use some help with that. Another big tier I'm really interested in playing is OU Doubles and would love to have help learning that format too!

Other than that, I think that just about sums up everything. OU, UU, and OU Doubles are probably the 3 tiers I'm most interested in learning and as a VGC player, the transition back to Singles would definitely be a challenge. I am looking forward to meeting loads of great people here and having some fun here and on Showdown

Well the YOLOSWAG part made me facepalm that's all I got for you there buddy:). What's wrong with being asian (I mean yellow) I'm asian to. Just saying:)....The best way to learn about how to use pokemon would probably have to be through the strategy dex. That's how I started I also recommend playing on pokemon showdown because it will help you get familiar with the tiers and what's good in X tier and you'll get an idea on how some pros build there team. If you want some help with some stuff feel free to ask me. I believe EonX can help you to with battling because he/she is the RU expert of the site. That is a disturbing profile picture to say the least. Lol Tumblr. Pokemon showdown is pretty great in my opinion it helped me get better in battling. Did you sell your 3ds you should try getting one when you have the money.(I say this even though a few days ago I spent a 120 bucks on sh*t). I'm saving up right now for a computer even though the one I have is fairly new. I would like a new computer mainly for heavy duty college purposes. Do you follow One Piece it's one of my favorite animes and manga? There are plenty of female members on the site so don't feel bad:). Either ways if you need something feel free to let me know.
Hey everyone, I'm IndigoSky (you can also call me Will haha). I'm 19 years old attending college, and I think I used to have an account on here when I had an NU team that ranked pretty highly on showdown. But that was at least two or three years ago (definitely before Gen VI) and I never saved any of the records or teams or anything, oh well. Anyways haha, I've been playing since Ruby/Sapphire and only recently got into competitive battling/breeding in my copy of Alpha Sapphire. I'm currently running an OU team here on Showdown that centers around Mega Sceptile, my favorite Pokemon, and it does fairly well but I'm really looking to boost my battling and teambuilding skills and generate a whole bunch of solid teams across tiers and formats. Hopefully I can learn a lot and make some friends on here, I'm looking forward to it! Oh and I'm also definitely hoping to enter in the Battling 101 program when the next cycle begins!
I'm also on a mission to complete my Pokedex in Alpha Sapphire, I think I'm somewhere between 400 and 450... We'll see what happens with that!

Name's Ethan, I'm a university student. Going to uni in Canada but born and raised in Massachusetts, USA. I've been following Smogon and competitive Pokemon for awhile, so I know a few things, but I'm definitely not overly good. Just decided to make an account and get myself into everything! I think I peaked at 1600 or so on the OU ladder once, so I'm not terrible, but then again it is the ladder. Not trying to parade that around as an accomplishment lol....
I spend most of my time on PS and usually come here for competitive advice, sets, and to steal a team now and then, as I can't build for shit. Been playing Pokemon since gen 3 I suppose. Got out of it for awhile but got back in around XY. Enjoyed ORAS a ton as it was a real throwback to childhood. Favorite Pokemon is probably Darkrai, Rayquaza, or Greninja. Don't get me started on how mad I was when you knuckleheads banned Greninja, but that's not a discussion to be had here...and I'm probably not qualified to give real input ahah.
Other things I'm interested in...Pokemon-wise, I've got a pretty extensive TCG collection, and that's what I focus on mostly, but looking to get much better at competitive battling. Message me if you're into collecting the TCG, I'm sure we'll get along great :) Non-Pokemon, I do art (ceramics though, don't ask me to draw anything please), I'm a dancer, and I'm a big hockey fan. Trying to learn to play the game myself, just finished up a brutal season at my university playing with Canadian wunderkinds who just missed the NHL draft. I technically just started playing last March though so I'm pretty terrible at hockey in addition to competitive mons ahahah :)

This is part of the wifi forums probably the best place to go for trading pokemon and all of that stuff. If you plan on doing trades on smogon which it sounds like people value pokemon differently on this site. If you want me to get into specifics feel free to pm me I would gladly help out clearing that up for you. If you need some help with basics on battling I can help as well with that. I never really peaked as high as you did in the past or in the current days and I probably wont have any intention to peak that high. I enjoy helping people improve if anything. I got emerald and diamond as my first pokemon games and those were some great games. I remember always using the cloning glitch in pokemon emerald:). Those were the fun days alright. If you need something else feel free to let me know and I will help out as best as I can.
I'm in the process of applying to colleges oh joy:). I have a yugioh collection as well. I never really got into the pokemon TCG however, I will admit that I love the art work for most of the cards especially the EX cards. Peaking at 1600 is pretty good I spent a few good days on showdown and peaked at 1450 and then I kinda just stopped after thatXD. My favorite pokemon easily has to be suicune dude. My friend used to always make fun of suicune claiming it was a terrible pokemon and boy was he wrong. I'm not the best in building teams but I can do a decent amount here and there and if you need help with team building let me know. Hope you enjoy your time around smogon.

You probably already found out, that I really like Conk, but I also love competitive Smogon battling! I usually just went to Showdown and asked people for Wifi-Battles, but right now I really want to get into the metagame and learn more. Part of that would be finding new friends for battling here!
I already built myself a fairly big collection of BR Pokes, I'd say about 2/3 are self bred and 1/3 obtained via trade (most notably legendaries, because SRing is tiring for me.)
