hey guys, hope to make a lot of new friends here. Been into Pokemon since the old days when the "Pocket Monsters" could get you suspended in school, had bathrooms looking like an open drug bazaar. Yup, I'm talking about the Red and Blue days. I've always played the games for fun but since the release of X and Y my enthusiasm has turned into real dedication as I got into breeding Pokemon for IV and moves. I've joined the community because I want to learn everything else I've ignored, the battles, the abilities, the tricks and tips. Today I saw you guys have a tutor program and suddenly I could hear a voice from the past... A promise made long ago...

Since the release of X and Y as well, I've gotten a lot better at competitive battling itself, I've made better plays and teams, and for the first time ever; reached 1695 on the ladder. I know it's not too good, and there are improvements to be made. But it's a start. Thanks again Smogon on your great analysis, and the amazing community you have. :)
Hi, my name is Andrew (hence the Andy part of my username). I think I posted here a little while back but yeah now I'd like to become a little bit more involved in the community. I've been playing since the old RBY days (I'm 25 now by the way) and have played all the way right through to ORAS. But recently I havent been playing "as much" because of work and study commitment but yeah otherwise I'm have always been a pokemon addict! Would love to start building teams and helping other people out where I can.

'Ello, everyone! I'm just a abnormal user, who has somewhat good amount of knowledge of making teams (it takes a while tho) and Pokemon in general. I joined Smogon because I want to learn more about team building, Pokemon sets, and all that jazz. I'm kind of good at competitive battling, but I want to learn more. But I didn't join Smogon for that. I also joined because I want to make some cool friends on here! I hope I have a very good time here!

Nice to meet you! I also had this account for some months before I actually started getting involved. I had no knowledge whatsoever about Pokemon before I found Showdown--seriously, the only thing Pokemon-related that I knew was that Pikachu was a Pokemon. :p The forums have helped me quite a lot to become a much better player than I was when I started. I love the OU tier, too. It's a really balanced metagame in my opinion, and the possibilities are
I am newly introduced in Pokemon (started in XY) as well as this site. I usually used it (the site) to look up good movesets for a desired pokemon but decided to dig deeper in the site. I sometimes use OU pokemon but really I use anything that I think has power and can cause major harm.

I started with XY, too! I found Showdown with the help of a friend, and once I started to get the hang of things, I finally decided to get a 3DS and Y. I've invested well over 200 hours into that game, so it was definitely worth it. I agree with you about using powerful Pokemon in other tiers. I also like to sometimes use lower-tier Pokemon in upper-tiers because sometimes they work really well

Hello, I am a completely new player. This is my second Pokemon game (I played Pokemon Gold way back in the day), and I am new to this forum too. I really enjoy competetive games, I used to play alot of MMOs and League of Legends. I have always wanted to play Pokemon competitively, but in the past, I was put off by it because I had thought it was only for little kids... Upon looking at youtube videos recently, I couldn't have been more wrong. I'm really hooked, and have been watching tons and tons of Oras WIFI battles. I would like to get started, but I am overwhelmed by the amount of content that I need to know. Is there a way to ease my self into the competitive environment? I am utterly intimidated by the sheer amount of content one needs to know.. there are like hundreds of pokemon??! Also there seems to be a lot of different rule sets, like some places allow evasion where others don't What is the most standard rule set? Thank you for the responses! Please help me to get started, any help is greated appreciated.
Hey Malth! I'm right there with you hahah but from what I gathered a good few things to know would be type weaknesses and resistances as they've added new types (fairy being one of them). And read up on ivs,evs, and natures

Can't wait to contribute to the forums as best as I can.
