Iron Boulder @ Barbaracite
Ability: Tough Claws
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Swords Dance
- Mighty Cleave
- Close Combat
- Earthquake

The new Mega Stones give Iron Boulder a breath of fresh air in Mix and Mega! The newly added Barbaracite grants Iron Boulder a massive +35 Attack, +20 Speed, a powerful ability in Tough Claws, and replaces its secondary typing with Fighting, turning Close Combat into the STAB move it finally deserves. Earthquake lets Iron Boulder take care of Eternatus and non-Levitate Pecharunt, and after a Swords Dance, even the toughest physical walls quiver in its presence, letting it pick up OHKOs on walls such as Arceus-Water, Magearna, and Milotic. Despite its strong speed tier, not even Iron Boulder is able to outpace Pixilate Extreme Speed from the likes of Regieleki and Dragonite, making answers to them such as defensive Eternatus, Magearna, and Hearthflame Mask Great Tusk crucial. In addition, the latter two are also able to support Iron Boulder with entry hazards such as Spikes and Stealth Rock. Bulky Ghost-types such as Rocky Helmet Lunala, Latiasite Pecharunt, and Will-O-Wisp Arceus-Ghost can prove to be problematic for Iron Boulder, letting Dark-types such as Hisuian Samurott and Kingambit, which are able to switch in and threaten them, serve as good partners for it.

Earthquake lets Iron Boulder take care of bulky Poison-types such as Eternatus and non-Levitate Pecharunt clod doesnt answer + gking runs latiasite and gets deleted by mcleave anyway; zen is better into the former two minus the helmet chip and can flinch cheese hence the suggestion in council chat, and, (AC) after a Swords Dance, (AC) even the toughest of physical walls quiver in its presence, letting it pick up OHKOes on walls such as Arceus-Water, Magearna, and Milotic.
