3, 2, 1... TIME'S UP!

Unfortunately, as MetaTres didn't manage to issue a challenge against any of the available Iron Chefs, his team will not be presented.

Voting and judging phase for this episode is now underway! Presenting to you the dishes of the participants!
. . . . . . .

presented by Chef Kreme

Cyndequil first built this team which became a huge sensation on the ladder. By the time the secret ingredient was revealed, it happened that the team fulfilled the requirement, and Chef Kreme replicated the team in hopes of being successful against the Iron Chefs. The insurmountable amount of Water-types makes this dish a lot hotter than expected. With Grass-type Pokemon being a nuisance to the whole team, he incorporated Rindo Berry Swampert along with Mirror Coat to take it down. With Ice Beam Crawdaunt and Special Attacking Feraligatr, defensive threats like Chesnaught will think twice before switching in outright. With Explosion in Cloyster's repertoire, it takes out any Bulky Water standing in the way in hopes of outlasting his team.

presented by Chef Nightingales

Chef Nightingales's team incorporated Krookodile's and Roserade's hazard-stacking abilities to take advantage of Gyarados's and Feraligatr's wall breaking capabilities. While some of the team members were standard fare at best, Nightingales's team had a massively unique selection in Krookodile's repertoire, and it's no other than Grass Knot to lure out Water-types that prey on the Special spectrum.

presented by Chef GreasyXSpoon

The idea behind Chef GreasyXSpoon's team was to incorporate Tailwind to compensate for the lack of Swift Swim Pokemon in his team. Along with Rain Dance that will trigger Swift Swim Pokemon, the team members will be assured of moving first outside of priority. As such, he incorporated four powerful Water physical attackers to take advantage of the power boost gained by Rain Dance, and once set up, they will be nigh impossible to stop.

presented by Chef Jetstertsyko

Chef Jetstertsyko uses the two main ingredients Sharpedo and Crawdaunt to clean the opposition. He uses very unorthodox sets and items in hopes of catching the Iron Chefs off guard, while at the same time covering the bases Sharpedo and Crawdaunt need.

presented by Chef SPEBSQSA

Chef SPEBSQSA built a hyper offensive team featuring Dugtrio, whose trapping capabilities became a vital part for this team's success. Another integral Pokemon for the team's success was Tornadus, as Prankster-boosted Tailwind allowed the three Water Pokemon in Feraligatr, Mega Sharpedo, and Crawdaunt to break through walls and to outpace key threats.

presented by Chef Manipulative

Chef Manipulative started his team off his two favorite Water-types in Dragon Dance Feraligatr and Mega Sharpedo. Along with the duo comes Swords Dance Cobalion which serves as a switch-in to Mega Beedrill's STABs that could prove quite dangerous for the team to handle; Salamence which serves as a Defogger; Seismitoad which serves as a switch-in to any Water-type attack (especially Scald) that would potentially burn the Water duo if not handled properly, and which offers utility in Stealth Rock, an immunity to Volt Switch, and a typing that can help shrug off any Fire attack at will; and finally, Calm Mind Florges which serves as an answer to Dragon Pokemon and most especially Sableye, and offers another win condition along with the Water duo.

Feraligatr @ Life Orb
Ability: Sheer Force
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe

You want to see their teams in action?
They're here!

You may now vote for the most favorite team in terms of the three categories: Creativity, Use of Ingredient, and Effectiveness. You can also vote for one team in different categories. Here's the template on how to vote:

Creativity: Player X. [insert reason here]
Use of Ingredient: Player Y. [insert reason here]
Effectiveness: Player X. [insert reason here]
The community has until
WEDNESDAY, FEBRUARY 10, 8 AM EST
to cast your vote on this thread who are
the most awe-inspiring,
the most essential,
and
the best-tasting
dishes ever witnessed this round!

Allez, cuisine!

PS: I have actually decided to let the other Iron Chefs (Hogg, NV, R0ady) to cast their votes for their favorite dishes. Since I am exempted for voting, I will only come in whenever there is a tie, and I will be the one to break the tie.

Nobody used Defensive Gyarados. What a shame.

Creativity: Euphonos - I mean, its Euphonos.
Use of Theme: Euphonos - Didn't even need to use the theme, and still makes a mono-water squad that really utilizes the theme.
Effectiveness: Euphonos - I don't think Euphonos ever actually uses teams that aren't effective.

Can that be my real vote? Probably not. I'll add the real ones once I have a moment to look through everything fully.

Edit: Guess I have to do real votes..

Creativity: Chef SPEBSQSA - Using mons such as Memento Dugtrio and Suicide Azelf was a great strategy to help in easing the burden of breaking the opposing team with his trio of water types. Facade Crawdaunt was another nice twist, allowing the lobster to still act as a threat even after getting boiled.

Use of Theme: Chef Kreme - It may not exactly be an original team, but there's no denying using all 4 of the secret ingredients in one team was a great way to show off its power. Mono-water just sort of cements the theme even further, regardless of the other two mons in the team not being required options.

Effectiveness: Chef Manipulative - While losing a game to Iron Chef Hogg, both of Manipulative's victories over Iron Chefs NV and Euphonos were very solid. The only real drawback was his weakness to Sableye and its burns, but the same can be said for many of the teams this round.

I'd rather use that as a template for the next episodes, really.

Creativity: SPEBSQSA. Neither burns nor Intimidate spam can stop Facade Hyper Cutter Crawdaunt. o_O
Use of Ingredient: Kreme. A mono water team with all four of the required pokemon clinches this category easily.
Effectiveness: Manipulative. One of the few teams that stands a chance against Blissey + Tangrowth. Honorable mention to Kreme; that team can wreck house if it gets a decent matchup.

Creativity: SPEBSQSA. Perhaps less creative technically than Jetstertsyko's team but seems more viable. (But fix Crawdaunt's ability please!)
Use of Ingredient: GreasyXSpoon. There's a good argument for Kreme here, but I'm reserving Kreme for...
Effectiveness: Kreme. For all that it looks gimmicky on the outside, it's a surprisingly effective offensive team that can break through a lot of standard defensive cores.

Creativity: SPEBSQSA. I mean, using a trapping method was an amazing choice, and the use of pokemon was outstanding.
Use of Ingredient: Manupulative. They not only used ones that they liked and probably knew how to use very well, but also knew how to build a team around it. They knew what they were doing with the ingredient and did it.
Effectiveness: Kreme. They obviously saw something that they knew worked and used it to the best of it's ability, no questions asked.

I would like to mention that any votes for me should seriously not be considered other than a pat on the back for a good first try from someone who knew nothing about predicting and team building. So yay me, but I'll definately do better next time!

Creativity: SBEBSQSA - Tailwind+Dugtrio really help fill in the weaknesses of the waters in a fun way. Also, that crawdaunt set it out of this world.
Use of Ingredient: Manipulative - Built around supporting the waters. Straightforward and simple, really like the seismitoad for patching up volt switch and scald annoyances. I do wonder how a tangrowth would be worked around, though.
Effectiveness: Kreme - Quite effective at working around all the problem pokemon a mono-water team would run into. I obviously missed the original team's debut, so I don't know if very well, but it looks solid.

Can I clear up a misunderstanding? I didn't replicate anything. Cynde built the team and gave it to me a while back for testing and whatnot, it's not a replica, it's the original. I just saw the theme and how it fit with the team and decided to go with it.

Ah, decent turn-out of voters this time. Great. Announcing to you the Special Awardees for this episode!

Most Awe-Inspiring Dish: SPEBSQSA

Sorry I couldn't challenge in the last episode, with school going back and other real-life issues I completely forgot about Iron Chef :( It's OK though, if my team was anything special I would have remembered.

Apologies for keeping the suspense long, but now is the time to present the winner of the eighth episode of Iron Chef, who is no other than...

Chef Kreme!

While Chef Manipulative brought the upper hand by winning against two Iron Chefs, it was not enough to win this episode against Chef Kreme, as its insane amounts of creativity and the outstanding use of the secret ingredient managed to pull off the win in this episode despite his losses against two of his Iron Chefs!
. . . . . . .

Here are the scores and the consolidated comments from our beloved Iron Chefs!

Kreme: 17 + 2 - 2 = 17
CREATIVITY: 4 / 5
What makes the team warrant a good score in this criterion is the insurmountable amount of Water-types. Each Pokemon in your team has subtle, unorthodox, yet interesting modifications to take down threats such as Rindo Berry + Mirror Coat Swampert, Shell Smash Cloyster with Explosion and Hydro Pump, and Agility Feraligatr, among others.

USE OF INGREDIENT: 5 / 5
Of course, it's Mono-Water. And you literally use all of the secret ingredients very nicely, and not just slapped for the sake of essence; the team worked altogether.

EFFECTIVENESS: 8 / 10
For an offensive Mono-Water team like this, you manage to cover threats especially coming from the bane every mono-Water teams suffer: Electric- and Grass-type Pokemon. Poliwrath aside, one of the only problems found in this team upon further examination is Whimsicott which would Encore every set-up move; better tread carefully when there is such a Pokemon in the opposing team. Otherwise, as proven in the ladder, it's a very solid team despite your losses to two of the Iron Chefs, and you gave Cyndequil credit where credit is due.

Manipulative: 12.5 + 4 - 1 = 15.5
CREATIVITY: 2 / 5
Aside from Power-Up Punch Defensive Seismitoad, the remaining sets your team has are trending in this metagame. Quite a minimal score will be given here.

USE OF INGREDIENT: 3.5 / 5
This is a more balanced take on incorporating the secret ingredient to the team. You managed to use Cobalion + Florges + Salamence well allowing the secret ingredient to shine through their type synergy.

EFFECTIVENESS: 7 / 10
The team has solid potential; you managed to defeat two Iron Chefs in a convincing fashion. However, your team gets overwhelmed by Mamoswine (though your team can check it just fine, your team doesn't have any prompt switch-ins to it), such that Shuca Berry on Cobalion wouldn't hurt so bad. Also, your team would get constantly pressured by Hazard stacking (especially Iron Chef Hogg exploited that during the match), and while your Salamence has Defog to clear those away, make sure it has to tread carefully against Taunt users. Otherwise, it's a very solid balanced team that shouldn't be underestimated.

Nightingales: 12 + 2 - 1 = 13
CREATIVITY: 2 / 5
As most of the sets are at least trending in the metagame, Grass Knot on Krookodile (and to an extent, Discharge Zapdos) sure is the only creative touch ever found in this team. As such, a minimal score is given in this criterion.

USE OF INGREDIENT: 3.5 / 5
You managed to incorporate Spike-stacking to augment the wall breaking capabilities of the secret ingredient, which is a very decent take on how to build a team around them. However, what brings it down is the lack of a proper hazard controller; Zapdos with Defog would ruin the potential of this team.

EFFECTIVENESS: 6.5 / 10
It is actually noticeable that you don't run any Steel-type Pokemon in this team; as such, you'll have a huge difficulty dealing with Dragon Pokemon, most especially Salamence (you don't even have Priority moves like Ice Shard to deal with Dragon Dance / Choice Scarf variants). Krookodile having Grass Knot is actually fine, but it is recommended to run Life Orb to maximize its damage output (it's an offensive team anyway). Otherwise, it is quite a solid team that shouldn't be underestimated.

SPEBSQSA: 14.5 - 2 = 12.5
CREATIVITY: 3 / 5
Your team has some interesting movesets that are reminiscent to the last season of Iron Chef: Memento Dugtrio and Explosion Azelf, which are quite unseen (especially with Zen Headbutt on Azelf). Also, you have Choice Band Crawdaunt, with Hyper Cutter (nice job) and Facade (serving as a decent status absorber); all of these warrant a fairly decent score in this criterion.

USE OF INGREDIENT: 4.5 / 5
This is one serious contender for the essential dish, as you managed to incorporate Azelf's, Dugtrio's, and Tornadus's capabilities to the fullest while allowing the secret ingredient to shine.

EFFECTIVENESS: 7 / 10
The team is very nice; the direction of the team is clearly present. As much as hyper offense is concerned, of course, the flaws are quite obvious: being prone to status (especially Sableye's Will-O-Wisp--as Iron Chef Hogg exploited during the match). Not sure whether it's an error on your part, but the ability you have on Crawdaunt is Hyper Cutter, and not the very standard Adaptability. And yes, Poison Fang is better on Mega Sharpedo over Poison Jab, considering that it's boosted by Strong Jaw. Despite your losses against the Iron Chefs, this team has good potential to make this team a huge success. Keep it up!

GreasyXSpoon: 11.5 - 1 = 10.5
CREATIVITY: 3 / 5
A dedicated Rain team isn't seen as much before (though there were participants who made a Rain team in the past episodes), but your team added Tailwind on Suicune and Tornadus for added Speed, so points for you on that.

USE OF INGREDIENT: 3.5 / 5
Your team nearly had it as a mono-Water team until Tornadus is there, sadly. However, incorporating Rain and Tailwind into the team is quite a take on building a team around the secret ingredient, but what drags the score lower than expected is that Speed is quite an overkill outside of priority, which is also a downfall to the Effectiveness criterion.

EFFECTIVENESS: 5 / 10
Speed is quite an overkill in this team, and Tailwind isn't exactly necessary for such undertaking and priority moves are everywhere. Also, Tailwind requires too much set-up turns to overlap with Rain Dance which would be very difficult for your team to cope with the wasted turns; as such, it could be nice to ditch Tailwind overall (Rain Dance is already enough for that) and take advantage of the last slots for momentum (U-turn for Tornadus) and coverage (Calm Mind and another move over Rain Dance and Tailwind on Suicune). Otherwise, the direction of the team is present; work on that and you'll get there eventually.

Jetstertsyko: 9 - 2 = 7
CREATIVITY: 4 / 5
"What is this I don't even," a reaction from an experienced player would say. Those unconventional items and movesets in your team, luckily, warrant a considerably good score in this criterion.

USE OF INGREDIENT: 2 / 5
The only direction noticeable in this team is the attempt to set up Swords Dance and pass those boosts to Sharpedo; nothing else significant. The rest of the team seems quite disjointed in what it does, unfortunately.

EFFECTIVENESS: 3 / 10
No offense to you and to your team (though you have admitted it already several times to the Iron Chefs), but this team is worth using in the low ladder. Your unconventional movesets and items don't translate much to the effectiveness, more so even ruin the team's stellar potential. Valiant effort on your part to build such a team; better improve next time.

. . . . . . .

Before the next secret ingredient of Iron Chef will be revealed, there will be a few announcements to be up as soon as everything is settled. Stay tuned for the most exciting, most anticipating season of Iron Chef Underused!

And yes, Poison Fang is better on Mega Sharpedo over Poison Jab, considering that it's boosted by Strong Jaw.
Poison Fang has only 50 base power, which gets boosted to 75 by Strong Jaw. Poison Jab's 80 base power makes it the better option despite not receiving the Strong Jaw boost.

252+ Atk Mega Sharpedo Poison Jab vs. 252 HP / 232 Def Florges: 208-246 (57.7 - 68.3%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Leftovers recovery
252+ Atk Strong Jaw Mega Sharpedo Poison Fang vs. 252 HP / 232 Def Florges: 194-230 (53.8 - 63.8%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Leftovers recovery

Factoring in the 50% chance to badly poison the opponent, as opposed to Poison Jab's 30% to regular poison the opponent, Poison Fang would be better overall imo. The extra 5 BP doesn't really compensate for the huge difference in secondary effect (you can really take advantage of that 50% toxic chance since Shark runs protect).

THE IRON CHEF HEADLINES

. . . . . . .

IRON CHEF R0ady RETIRED, NEW IRON CHEF HAILED

R0ady has expressed his retirement as Iron Chef. On behalf of the Iron Chef team, the Chairman would like to give him a heartfelt congratulations for his solid record, and a warm thanks for being a big help to make the Iron Chef project running! With the dwindling amount of Iron Chefs running, Chairman Euphonos has handpicked Shiba replacing Iron Chef R0ady's throne, as he will be of big help in evaluating teams in terms of effectiveness thanks to his one of the biggest accolades: being a Team Rater himself! Will the chefs prove to Shiba that real friends exist in Pokemon?

. . . . . . .

FIRST TWO-TIME WINNER OF IRON CHEF SEASON 2 DECLINED OFFER

By virtue of winning two cumulative episodes of Iron Chef, Chairman Euphonos invited Kreme to become an Iron Chef. Unfortunately, Kreme declined the offer, thus remaining the Iron Chef count to four. Now that there are a lot of one-time winners in this season of Iron Chef (Manipulative, Do A Bibarel, BrandonBeast, ChilliTacos, malinowski, and Nightingales), who among them will succeed and fill the coveted spot as the Iron Chef? Will other participants join among the ranks who are on the verge of becoming an Iron Chef?

. . . . . . .

We'll find out in the most exciting, most anticipating season of Iron Chef Underused!

Also, the Chairman is planning to give the Retired Iron Chefs, the Overall Winners, and the Honorable Mentions sections of this project a little make-over. In the Retired Iron Chefs section will also present the past Iron Chefs from the previous season, spearheaded by fellow Iron Chef and former Chairman, Hogg. On another hand, Chairman Euphonos is hoping to complete the Overall Winners section with the updated descriptions, and is making a plan on how to beautify the Honorable Mentions section. All coming up soon!

For the next three episodes, Chairman Euphonos has lined up secret ingredients worth repeating since former Chairman and fellow Iron Chef Hogg spearheaded! So, what is the secret ingredient for this episode?

The secret ingredient for this episode is...

#FLASHBACKFEBRUARY: HEALING FACTOR!

This is the secret ingredient selected by Chairman Hogg in the very first episode of the very first season of Iron Chef. In this episode, participants are required to have at least two Pokemon with the ability Regenerator. Will the participants break boundaries outside Stall and use Regenerator in other play styles, or will the participants go with the flow and use the Regenerator duo to keep themselves healthy in a Stall environment?

You have until
MONDAY, FEBRUARY 15, 9 AM EST
to complete your dishes to be sent to the Chairman via PM.

As this is the team building phase, feel free to discuss whether the secret ingredient still rocks in the tier after several Pokemon dropped in this tier. Fire them away!

Allez, cuisine!

I have here three good matches to start this episode!

camo pumpkin won against me in a very intense match. It was a match that I nearly had the win--that Heavy Slam damage coupled with the Burn was way too much for my team to sustain much damage, not to mention Sableye being a huge nuisance to my team. GG!

malinowski challenged me and lost in a very intriguing match. I didn't manage to see him pull off one of his tricks because of the pressure I exerted to him (and provided that is incredibly hard to pull off--that is no Marill, I would say). GG!

BrandonBeast challenged me and eventually forfeited the match after I revealed Taunt to one of his Pokemon. While I have the difficulty of choosing who to take the Sleep Powder with all of my Pokemon having some vital roles against the opposition, my Swampert proved to be a huge nuisance to his team (thanks to a one-turn wake). GG!
