Iron Treads @ Leftovers
Ability: Quark Drive
Tera Type: Normal
EVs: 252 HP / 252 SpD / 4 Spe
Careful Nature
IVs: 16 Def
- Earthquake
- Knock Off
- Rapid Spin
- Stealth Rock
[SET COMMENTS]
Thanks to its ability to resist both of Miraidon’s STABs and reliably 2HKO Miraidon with Earthquake and its access to solid hazard control options in Stealth Rock and Rapid Spin, Iron Treads is able to carve out a solid niche as a utility Pokémon. Knock Off allows Iron Treads to cripple opponents by removing important items such as Heavy-Duty Boots from potential defensive switch-ins such as Ho-oh and Alomomola. Knock Off also allows Iron Treads to punish Calyrex-S and Tera Ghost users that attempt to block Rapid Spin. Iron Treads runs max HP investment and max SpD investment to allow it to check threats such as Miraidon lacking Overheat and Eternatus lacking Fire-Type coverage. Lowering your defense IVs to 16 allows Iron Treads to receive a special defense boost instead of a defense boost from Quark Drive; this allows Iron Treads to check Miraidon more easily. Tera Normal allows Iron Treads to check Calyrex-S in a pinch if your team’s Calyrex-Shadow checks have already been weakened.
Iron Treads can work on almost any playstyle but works best on bulkier teams that appreciate the hazard control that Iron Treads provides. Iron Treads struggles to deal with Koraidon; hence, partners that can deal with it, such as Alomomola, Skeledirge, and defensive Arceus forms, are greatly appreciated. Iron Treads also struggles to deal with Calyrex-Shadow, so checks such as Arceus-Normal, Mandibuzz, and Wo-Chien are a necessity as well. Kyogre is another wallbreaker that Iron Treads struggles with; thus, Iron Treads appreciates teammates that can check Kyogre, such as Koraidon and Miraidon on offense teams and Clodsire and Blissey on stall teams. Iron Treads also appreciates the support of the previously mentioned Clodsire and Blissey to scout out potential overheat Miraidons and provide the team with a secondary Miraidon check. Iron Treads lacks reliable recovery, so it greatly appreciates the Wish support from the previously mentioned Alomomola; in return, the Rapid Spin support provided by Iron Treads allows Alomomola to run items other than Heavy-Duty Boots.

Other Options
=============
Iron Treads can run a suicide lead set on hyper offense teams with a jolly nature and an offensive spread of 252 Atk/4 Spd/252 Spe using the same moveset; however, Iron Treads is often outclassed by other suicide leads due to only being setup Stealth Rock and being setup fodder for sweepers such as SD Koraidon, Dragon Dance Arceus-Ground, and SD Arceus-Normal. Volt Switch gives Iron Treads the ability to pivot; however, Iron Treads often struggles to fit it into its moveset. Also, Volt Switch can easily be blocked by the many Ground types in the tier that have no trouble switching in on Iron Treads already, such as Ting-Lu and Arceus-Ground.
Checks and Counters
===================
**Physical
wallbreakers**: Physical attackers such as Koraidon, Zacian-Crowned, and Arceus Ground can threaten to deal massive damage to Iron Treads. Arceus-Ground is particularly notable for being able to switch in and set up freely against it.
**Kyogre**:
Kyogre is able to threaten to OHKO Iron Treads with Origin Pulse and Water Spout, Although due to Kyogre's lack of reliable recovery and reliance on its items, Kyogre does struggle to switch in to Iron Treads.
**Gliscor**:
Once Gliscor has been poisoned by its Toxic Orb, Iron Treads is not able to make progress against Gliscor. Gliscor is also able to cripple Iron Treads by removing its leftovers with Knock Off and is able to set hazards that Iron Treads struggles to remove.
