We have some new sales info! So, I was willing to brush aside my initial wonder about there being a version popularity disparity as simple anecdotal evidence not adding up to anything meaningful. But now, 5 months later, it looks like there might be some merit to SV having lopsided popularity!

Nintendo JP released info about its most downloaded games for the year 2023 so far. Pokemon Violet is sitting at #10, while Scarlet is at #18! It's interesting, though as far as I'm aware, we don't have any other data to see trends like this for older games. It could very well be that older gens have had these gaps in popularity too with their sales, though I've never stumbled upon them. Anyone seen anything in that ballpark?

Also good to know that Lapis and her game are #2 and better than Pokemon. Good job Lapis.
 
I was gonna get Violet but then saw the exclusives and paradox forms of Scarlet and knew i wanted it. While i do like some of the future designs (Valiant and Jugulis) i think the past ones blow them out of the water in terms of creative designs.

So funny story - my local VGC community ran a tournament at the very end of Sword and Shield. The prize for first and second place was a copy of Violet and a copy of Scarlet, with the winner getting first pick - I won and chose Violet. Now here's the funny thing - the guy who got second place went to collect his game first, promptly forgot the deal and picked up the copy of Violet!! Our long suffering TO had to escort me down to JB Hifi and buy me a second copy of Violet to respect my choice, and the copy of Scarlet went spare :psywoke: Six months later, I mention offhand to the aforementioned TO that my partner was looking at picking up the new game and he just hands me the Scarlet copy free to give to her as a gift ... all of that to say that yeah, I think there's something to Violet being more desirable for whatever reason. Pretty anecdotal but yeah I just wanted Miraidon, even if Scarlet ended up being more competitively relevant (and I missed out on Stoney Boy ;_;)
 
I was originally going to chose Violet since purple is my favorite color but once i saw how adorable Koraidon was in the trailers (like probably many others) I made a complete 180 and bought Scarlet instead

(and I'm glad i did, with violet appearantly performing worse than scarlet in general and koraidon working better with the story)

Curious, how does Koraidon work better with the story? (violet player)
