Is there anything (not related to Pokemon) that you are one of the best in the world at?

im probably the best at reading this thread and having my ego shattered

edit: oh right this is cong not a forum. i should expand on that comment lol

it's amazing to see all of the cool things other smogoners are capable of. multiple chess tournament winners, spelling bee winners, etc. i've always been told that i'm "one of the smartest people i know," but when i actually step back to examine what i've accomplished, the answer is: jack shit. maybe reading this thread will motivate me to apply myself wholeheartedly to something, or maybe the people around me just don't know many smart people, lol

In last year's Turkish university entrance exams, I became 36th and 98th respectively in English and Social Sciences, out of ~2 million people. Would that count?

I qualified for the Scripps National Spelling Bee in 8th grade and tied for 60th out of 286 people, one round short of ESPN coverage.

I also beat Lavos Spawn in chess.

yep it was 2 in the morning and we both went 80 turns without any mistakes, i was pretty impressed

Not at all best-in-the-world-level but I played SSBM competitively and I was able to play at the level of the best player in Belgium back in the days (~5 years ago).

Not that impressive because the best Belgian player wasn't a top-notch player but he was still able to challenge the best European one, so it still felt pretty good to play at his level, especially since I couldn't take part at most of the tournaments back then (and that's where you learn the most).

I also had some world records (but the one I had weren't that hard to achieve) in the single player mode of the game.

While I'm talking about the subject, I'd like to say that I still think SSBM is the best competitive game one can play, with an amazing community and it's always a pleasure to watch games/talk about it (hi Eo!).

Armada is too strong.

Anyway, I have things that I'm very good at, but nothing even remotely close to being the best (video games, aside from Pokemon, is definitely not one of these). My brother, however, plays a fighting game called BlazBlue. He is considered to be the best Ragna in the United States, but he dropped it to pick up a different character, Tao, which he has become the second best at the US in.

Edit: One of his combo videos he made:

holy shit your brother is MT5A? That guy's considered a god amongst my local playgroup. Mainly because out of the six of us, four of them are Ragna mains....
One of the guys in my group who's a Hazama main got the final stages of the UK EVO Qualifiers but never made it, I never bothered to learn to use a stick well enough to get anywhere, even though my theory was good.

I'm seeing all these things about chess and music and spelling bees and it feels great to go "I can click things really good"

Classical Music. (I'm a solo vocalist)
I have a bagful of trophies and all.

Competing on the national level in recitals and shit. Considering going pro, since everyone keeps saying how much potential I have.... yadda yadda but the pay is shit in that line, so is any form of sustainable financial security, so I'm on the edge here. I just happen to have (what others call) a golden voice, idk if I'm obligated to use it to it's full extent. No I'm not madly in love with music, it's something I just grew up with. In fact I'd appreciate some advice from any of you folks who've made any form of fine arts a career.
I'm also a classical vocalist. I don't have any trophies, but I study at one of the best music schools in my state. I have no idea what kinds of stable jobs I'll have in the future, but I know a lot of people from my school who have done a lot of cool things from teaching to singing at the Met.

I guess the best way to make a living as a musician is to practice a lot and not be picky about the kinds of jobs you'll get. And to get lucky and meet the right people, haha.

I used to be quite the Mario Kart Wii player. While I never got any records (I fell short of the North American top 10 on DK Summit by less than 2 seconds before the double jump strat was discovered), I was quite the respectable player on Wi-fi races. I'd place in the top 3 of any given race most of the time, no matter the course, and I got myself the (not so coveted) 3 star rating. My VR peaked at 9999, and it never really dropped from there. That all stopped when my old Wii (which had Gamecube controller support!) broke.

Nowadays, I'm trying to get into the groove of Mario Kart Wii again. I broke my personal records in Luigi Circuit (1:13:694 [recent time] v. 1:15:186 [old time]) and Moonview Highway (1:54:842 [recent time] v. 1:58:570 [old time]), so I'm just hoping that I can actually get back to where I used to stand.

i'm also kinda good at pokemon battling.

Yeah dude, it really doesn't get the love it deserves. Probably because nobody had a Neo Geo. As always, there is emulation :) :) :)

I seem to remember you being a fan, we probably talked about it way back in the NetBattle days.
chaos we should talk Garou.

Make a thread for that, I'm sure someone will be able to give sound advice.

I'm sorry but:
ヽ༼ຈل͜ຈ༽ノ

At any rate, this topic makes me sad I don't do anything cool anymore. I don't think was ever "best in the world" at anything (besides mons) but I have some small accomplishments to my name. My academic career went in the shitter eventually and now I have a degree that isn't doing me any good while I work a POS job just to pay back my massive student debt... I won a city chess tournament when I was in 4th grade but I've rarely played ever since leaving elementary school (when I was in chess club). I am/was good at all kinds of sports but my physical stature is simply too meager to have ever made it to a particularly high level there.

To my knowledge, I'm the first person to complete a solo straight character challenge (SSCC) in Final Fantasy Tactics. \o/ That is to say, I beat the game with solo Ramza (the main character) utilizing only a single job class.

Anyone who hasn't chatted with me on IRC likely will not know this but I have an incredibly large knowledge of the amusement industry in the United States. I can pretty much tell you anything you want to know about an amusement park or a specific ride (bar their operating hours cause that is waaaaaay too nerdy).

I also have incredible navigation abilities and have been called a 'human map' by quite a few people that I have assisted.

I am also a very skilled electrician from working 4 years under my dad and the business that he works for. Three of those years (because I was too young the first year) I have been legally certified by the state of New Jersey to work in pit mines and I have performed some sort of work related to electricity on about 60% of the Seaside Heights boardwalk.

Disclaimer: I have not touched that boardwalk at all since Summer 2012, so any smartass that tries to say I caused that fire can kindly fuck off.

I hold most of the all-time records in this game by a wide margin: http://www.kongregate.com/games/Tukkun/squares

I'm one of the top ~100 Mario Kart 64 time trials players in the world. I also held a bunch of North American regional records in Mario Kart Wii during the first month after it was released, and even had a couple times on the worldwide leaderboard, but I'm nowhere near a top player anymore.

it's just today's score but still........ it feels good to be on top

I'm the most famous street racer in my city and the nearby one. I obviously cleaned my act and drive sanely due to obvious problems with this activity and I hope I can legitimately find someone or some team that can take me pro. Currently looking up local Rally teams and Karting venues, and if nothing goes my way I hope to have a career in writing/reviewing cars.

I also can write and have written in a couple of websites, considering writing a book about something that peaks my interest...what else, I think I have a good eye for photography and I'm willing to see how far I can go from there. But yeah, basically writing and driving is what I do best, which ironically has nothing to do with either my Computer Engineering Degree or credentials.
