Is toxic still viable?

Is poison in general still useable in D/P competitive battling? With pokemon learning more moves that go with its attack or spec. attack with more type coverage, I don't see how Toxic can be that great anymore. I used to love it when it screwed defensive pokemon without rest or a blissey/celebi on their team. I might use it on:

Milotic@leftovers
Ice beam
Aqua ring
Recover
Toxic

Could this moveset ever work? I need 2 turns to set up, but afterwards I can heal off almost any attack. I had a annoyer Starmie that ran toxic/confuseray/recover/surf that actually worked pretty well, but in D/P...?

Maybe on Umbreon after you kill Heracross? :P

Toxic is useful but generally there are better options for a moveslot :S

Mean Look + Toxic + Recover move will always be viable but easily countered after they know what you'll do

And since there's no Poison Clause you can Toxic more than 1 Pokemon, so later that Pokemon won't be switching easily because of its Toxic damage, so it's cool :P

Yeah you can toxic your foes entire team, and then they bring out the cleric...
I'm pretty sure toxic can still be as annoying like in adv but nothing more.

Toxic + Protect Cresselia is an idea I've been working on. You could Toxic a Heracross switch, Protect on it and switch to an appropriate counter while it loses a lot of health

Toxic still works on stuff like Milotic and Swampert, but with the new electric and grass moves, I can only really see it on lesser used stuff with limited movepool options.

Toxic actually works to an extent in Advance, since it never reverts to normal poison. It works best on things that clerics don't dare switch into, so that you force them to use Aromatherapy and waste PP.

In DP though, I'm not too sure. From what I've seen from warstories so far, every turn counts, and one turn using Toxic might be enough time for the opponent to set up on you. Not to mention stuff dies too quickly to care about poison damage.

I use Toxic on my Milotic, for use on special walls, especially opposing bulky waters resistant to both Surf and Ice Beam. I've yet to play a match over WiFi, though from a survey of recent RMTs, it seems clerics are not common enough to negate its use entirely. As Dan Dan said though, its situational effectiveness would seem to render it viable only on Pokemon who don't need the moveslot. Though Hypnosis is a tempting alternative, I think Milotic satisfies this criterion.

I like your Milotic, and toyed with the idea myself. Ultimately I opted for Surf over Aqua Ring, since after setting up the latter, it seems rather likely that on most occasions the opponent will simply switch to a counter, forcing you to switch. Indeed, the use of Aqua Ring allows this to be an arguably free switch-in. You would then be forced to switch to flee the counter, negating Aqua Ring's value, which is only really strategically viable sustained over a period of at least a few turns. Toxic, by contrast, as a permanent status ailment, retains some value even if you, or indeed they, switch afterwards.

If I were to run your set, I'd be tempted to go the whole hog and use Protect over Ice Beam, just to be really annoying. That said, I've always left at least one attacking move on all of my Pokemon. Novelty is cool though.
