Exploud is not giving up, going with yet another Smokescreen! Bronzong is either getting luckier or getting the hang of this though, as it cuts through the smoke and bashes Exploud with Zen Headbutt. I think the attack even scored a critical hit to boot! Exploud looks worn out, and I think it won't be able to take another hit.
Regardless, Exploud launches another Shadow Ball. What tenacity! The attack hits, but Bronzong hits back with Iron Head, and Exploud falls over. Exploud has been knocked out! It wasn't able to take down Bronzong, but it did sap away a huge chunk of Bronzong's energy. Will akela's next Pokemon be able to finish Bronzong off?

akela sends out his fifth Pokemon, this time it's Carracosta! Carracosta is one of akela's strongest Pokemon, and one of his few Pokemon with a complete movepool. I'm looking forward to seeing how it will match up with this Bronzong, as both Pokemon are defensive titans. Bronzong, actually being faster in this matchup, uses the Speed advantage to set up a Substitute. This is the second time we've seen Substitute being used in this match, and we'll probably see it quite a few more before it ends. Bronzong finishes crafting it just in time, as Carracosta looks to go on the offensive. It swings in with Knock Off, trying to remove that pesky Rare Candy. Instead, Carracosta just swats at the doll.
Bronzong takes this moment to Chill out. Carracosta also seems to have let up on the offense for a sec. It starts whipping up sand similar to what Crustle did earlier... uh oh. Carracosta has summoned a Sandstorm. Fuck this. I should have brought Go-Goggles or something. Sandstorm will drastically increase Carracosta's ability to tank special attacks, which means this already long match will be drawn out even longer. I guess I'm gonna have to work for my pay then...
Bronzong lets out a glow, and suddenly some of the vines by Carracosta spring into motion to trip it. That must have been Grass Knot! Even though it was supposed to be a super effective move, Carracosta looks relatively unharmed though. Bronzong is getting a taste of its own medicine I guess. Carracosta strikes back with Scald, and manages to destroy Bronzong's Substitute to leave it exposed.

Taking a page out of akela's book, Matezoide orders Bronzong to use Stealth Rock. Bronzong could faint any time now, so that was good thinking on Matezoide's part. Instead of attacking, Carracosta removes its shell using Shell Smash. That move does lower its defenses a little bit, but it already has great defenses, and the offensive boost it gets is worth the trade. This is one of akela's strongest Pokemon, so I think he's finally gotten serious.
Carracosta dives in for another Knock Off. Bronzong doesn't even have time to react this time, and it takes some good damage. The Rare Candy it stole also got swatted to the ground! In response it... stops to Chill again. Bronzong sure did a lot of work this match, so expecting any more out of it at this point wouldn't make much sense.
It doesn't seem as though Carracosta is done yet though. Moving in to attack again, it swipes at the lower part of Bronzong with Low Kick! Between the precision of the attack and the fact that Bronzong is already so worn out, Bronzong can't take any more. It collapses to the ground and is knocked out! What'll Matezoide send in to fight Carracosta with?

Finally! My time to shine!....Wait, he is a rock type.....bleh, i suppose overcoming overwhelming odds is something common in the history of this world.
Matezoide recalls the fainted Bronzong and sends out his next Pokemon, Sigilyph. Sigilyph is an odd Pokemon, and at first it seems like and odd choice to match up against Carracosta. I think I know what Matezoide has up his sleeve though. For starters, Sigilyph's Magic Guard shields it from the entry hazards lining the arena. It'll also protect it from the pesky Sandstorm, so I guess I'm the only one to suffer in it...
Aside from that, Sigilyph is faster than Carracosta, even though Carracosta has used Shell Smash. It looks like Matezoide will take advantage of this to set up a Reflect that will weaken Carracosta's attacks. Just in time too, as Carracosta comes in to use Knock Off to remove Sigilyph's Exp. Share. That's kind of a dick move, but whatever.
Ah, Sigilyph looks like it's about to use its trump card against Carracosta: Skill Swap! Yep, here it is! With Skill Swap, it can steal Carracosta's amazing defensive abilities to buff itself against Carracosta's attacks while also lowering Carracosta's defensive potential. It's really the perfect move here. Carracosta attacks with Rock Slide, but between the Reflect and Sigilyph's new abilities the attack doesn't seem that impressive. I think the boosts from Shell Smash do help to add some damage though.
Still, without the protection of Solid Rock and Sturdy, Carracosta is left open to take Sigilyph's Energy Ball. That hit way harder than Bronzong's earlier Grass Knot. The sandstorm did weaken the attack slightly, but not that much. Carracosta fights back with Stone Edge, but it looks like its still struggling to get past Sigilyph's defenses. I think Carracosta is already extremely worn out from all it's done so far. It just ate its Leppa Berry though, so that will give it some energy back. This matchup is seriously exciting!

If Carracosta is under the effects of a damaging evasive move when you would use Energy Ball, Chill that action
If Double-Team is ordered at any time, use Miracle Eye A1 and push-back.
Sigilyph pulls another trick out, and rests on the ground using Roost. That will help it recover some of the health it lost before, solidifying its edge over Carracosta. Carracosta takes the moment to do... something I've never seen Carracosta do. Is that Guard Swap? I guess that's a new move for Carracosta, but it works well here. I don't think that's as powerful as Skill Swap was, but giving Sigilyph its lowered defenses does help it out a little bit.
It looks like Sigilyph is charging up another Energy Ball. Oh, it hits for impressive damage again! The Guard Swap did help take just a bit of the attack away, but only a minor amount. Carracosta responds by throwing a rock at Sigilyph. Rock Throw? No, its Smack Down, and Sigilyph is on the ground again, this time forcefully! I don't know what akela is planning, but at least that'll stop Sigilyph from using Roost again for the time being.
The clever moves don't help defend Carracosta from another Energy Ball though! Carracosta is really feeling it, and it looks like one more hit will bring it down! It doesn't seem to be done though, and attacks with Earthquake, which now can hit Sigilyph due to Smack Down. That doesn't to be stronger than using another Rock-type attack. What does akela plan to do...? Both the Reflect and the Sandstorm are gone, so both Pokemon should be a bit more open to attacks. This puts the slower and weakened Carracosta at a disadvantage though...

Whoa, Carracosta is at its limit, but its going in for one last attack. What an awesome Aqua Jet+Waterfall combination! Sigilyph isn't fazed though. In fact, it seems to be acting like Carracosta isn't a threat anymore, and just stops to Chill. It could have used Protect to block the hit, but I guess Matezoide thought the extra energy would be better.
Instead of finishing off Carracosta, Sigilyph does nothing but Chill. Is Matezoide just trying to wait out the effects of the earlier Smack Down? I don't know, I guess the extra energy will be helpful.
Carracosta tries to attack again, but it can't. It looks like its having trouble moving, and collapses before it can use the combination again. Carracosta is knocked out! And again, Sigilyph just uses Chill and stands perched on the ground eerily.

If you are smacked down A2, use Energy Ball that action
If Gigalith is under the effects of Double-Team when you would use Energy Ball, use Heat Wave that action
akela goes to his sixth Pokemon, Gigalith. Being a Rock-type, it should be a decent matchup against Sigilyph. Gigalith gets pelted by the Stealth Rock hazard that Bronzong set up earlier, but is still in much better shape than its opponent.
Sigilyph sets up another Reflect. We saw how ridiculous this made its defenses earlier, but lets see if Gigalith can crack it. Gigalith attacks with... Bulldoze? Odd choice, and it doesn't do all that much, but it does lower Sigilyph's Speed. Smack Down's effects seem to be wearing off, as Sigilyph takes flight again.
Just like that though, Sigilyph returns to the ground using Roost to recover HP. Not at bad move, though it still has significantly less health than Gigalith, and now Sigilyph is not allowed to use any more recovery moves. Gigalith... sets up another Sandstorm. God fucking damn. My eyes. I guess this should be expected though, as it helps to shield Gigalith while also powering up some of its moves due to its Sand Force ability. But wouldn't it have made more sense to set up Sandstorm before using Bulldoze?
Sigilyph fires another Energy Ball, which hits Gigalith and explodes. Gigalith is pushed back a bit, but it tanked the hit much better than Carracosta. Instead of retaliating, it chooses to set up with Rock Polish. At this point it seems much faster than Sigilyph. What is akela planning?

Gigalith charges in, and connects with Iron Head. The attack makes Sigilyph reel back and flinch! Honestly it didn't look as though it hurt that much, even with the boost of Sand Force, but every little bit counts now. I think using a STAB move would have been more effective though.
It looks like Gigalith is on the offensive again; this time Heavy Slam. akela is really trying to press this speed advantage I think. Matezoide won't have it though, and has Sigilyph use Thunder Wave. Sigilyph sure gets a wide variety of moves.
Gigalith goes in for another attack, but Sigilyph is faster now. It attacks with Energy Ball before Gigalith can get off a Rock Tomb. The Rock Tomb looks like it lowered Sigilyph's Speed, though the paralyzed Gigalith is still probably slower. Both Pokemon are really struggling to damage each other. I wonder how much longer this will go on for..?
