INTRODUCTION

Hello, this is my first RMT here on Smogon. I'm bringing you this team featuring Mega Medicham. I got destroyed by one recently so I really wanted to try it out for myself. In the end I came up with a balanced team that works pretty well in the current metagame.

THE TEAM

Team Builing Process:

medicham-mega.png

I usually start off my team building process with the Mega I want to use, so in this case it's Medicham.

Next up came my Defensive Wall & Stealth Rocker, so I decided to go with Hippowdown. I chose Hippowdown because I don't want lose to Bisharp if I chose Landorus-T and Zard X if I chose Garchomp.

clefable.png

After a Defensive Wall I like to choose a Special Wall, so I thought Clefable would be nice here as it can take super-effective Water, Ice and Grass hits for Hippowdown. (Bar 2 Leaf Storms from Serperior).

I wanted a counter to Fairies and Lati@s so I decided to choose Metagross, it also has a lot of resistances as well.

raikou.png

Raikou is a strong special attacker that can deal with bulky Water types as well as Scizor and Ferrothorn with
HP Fire.

Although Stealth Rocks don't threaten my team very much Spikes can and I wanted a Pokémon that could get rid of them as well as a counter to Keldeo, so Latias was the last fit for the team.

An In-Depth Look:

medicham-mega.gif

Medicham-Mega (M) @ Medichamite
Ability: Pure Power
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Fake Out
- High Jump Kick
- Zen Headbutt
- Ice Punch

Medicham is obviously a powerful Pokémon due to Pure Power. Fake Out is used to get Medicham evolved safely while also dealing chip damage. High Jump Kick is Medicham's strongest attack doing a high amount of damage even to Pokémon who resist it. Zen Headbutt is to hit those who do resist High Jump Kick such as Fairy types including Clefable and Sylveon. Lasty we have Ice Punch as a coverage move OHKOing: Garchomp, Gliscor, and offensive Lando-T. Max Attack and Speed as well as a Jolly natue is used to let Medicham hit as hard and fast as possible.

hippowdon.gif

Hippowdon (M) @ Leftovers
Ability: Sand Stream
EVs: 252 HP / 144 Def / 112 SpD
Impish Nature
- Stealth Rock
- Earthquake
- Toxic
- Slack

Hippowdown acts as a switch-in to Talonflame, Excadrill and physical attackers in general. It also acts a stop to Electri-types like Mega Manectric. Earthquake is Hippo's only STAB attack doing a sizeable amount of damage to the opposing Pokémon, (bar Flying types and Levitate users). Toxic is to widdle down the opposing Pokémon. Slack Off is used to restore HP. Leftovers is used to gain little HP throughout the match. Max HP increases Hippo's longetivity and 144 Defense along with an Impish Nature to take physical hits. 112 Special Defense allows Hippo to live super-effective special attacks.

clefable.gif

Clefable (F) @ Leftovers
Ability: Magic Guard
EVs: 252 HP / 172 Def / 84 SpD
IVs: 0 Atk
Calm Nature
- Calm Mind
- Moonblast
- Thunder Wave
- Soft-Boiled

Clefable is a pretty bulky Pokémon capable of taking multiple hits and restoring HP with Soft-Boiled. Calm Mind is used to increase Clef's Special Attack and Defense making it hit harder and increasing its special bulk. Moonblast is Clef's STAB attack hitting hard just after a few Calm Minds. Thunder Wave is used to cripple Pokémon such as Heatran, Mega Scizor, and Talonflame. Soft-Boiled gives Clef a needed longetivity on the field. Max HP, Special Defense investment, Calm Nature, and Leftovers allows Clef to take special hits pretty well. 172 Defense is to avoid the OHKO on Super-Effective physical hits such as Scizor's BP and Bisharp's Iron Head.

metagross.gif

Metagross @ Assault Vest
Ability: Clear Body
EVs: 252 HP / 160 Atk / 96 SpD
Adamant Nature
- Meteor Mash
- Earthquake
- Pursuit
- Bullet Punch

A Pokémon that could deal with Fairies and Lati@s was needed so Metagross does both of these jobs very well being able to trap Lati@s with Pursuit and dealing STAB super-effective damage to Fairies with Meteor Mash.
Earthquake is to hit Heatran, and opposing Metagross
. Bullet Punch is a nice priority move to come in and revenge kill. Max HP with 96 SpD and Assault Vest allows Metagross pretty specially bulky. The rest goes in attack with an Adamant nature to hit hard.

raikou.gif

Raikou @ Choice Specs
Ability: Pressure
EVs: 4 Def / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 30 SpA / 30 Spe
- Thunderbolt
- Volt Switch
- Shadow Ball
- Hidden Power [Fire]

I needed a hard hitting Special Attacker so I decided to go with Choice Specs Raikou. Thunderbolt and Volt Switch are both of Raikou's main STAB attacks while Volt Switch lets Raikou get a fast pivot out in unfavorable matchups. Shadow Ball is to hit Psychic and Ghost types. Finally we have HP Fire to hit Scizor and Ferrothorn. Max Special Attack and Speed along with Choice Specs to hit as hard and fast as possible.

latias.gif

Latias @ Life Orb
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 72 HP / 184 SpA / 252 Spe
IVs: 0 Atk
Timid Nature
- Draco Meteor
- Psyshock
- Defog
- Healing Wish

And for the final slot I wanted a Pokémon that could Defog away hazards while hitting hard so I decided Latias was good for this spot. Draco Meteor is Latias' main STAB attack doing a heavy amount of damage and even OHKOing Pokémon who don't resist it. Psyshock is Latias' secondary STAB attack hitting specially bulky Pokémon like Clefable. Defog is to clear any entry hazards or screens. And for the last move I decided Healing Wish was essential incase any of my wincons are weakend. 72 HP allows Latias to avoid a 2HKO from Life Orb Thundurus' HP Ice. The rest goes in Special Attack and Speed to hit as hard and fast as possible.

CONCLUSION:

I think this team is really fun to use and has gotten me a decent rank on the ladder. Any suggestions are appreciated! ^_^

Thanks, -FAINN

yo

so this looks like a pretty good medicham build, but you could you should really run LO Tornadus-T > Raikou. Tornadus-T gives you a much better machup against offense by offering its incredible speed tier. It's an excellent breaker alongside Mega Medicham since it can whittle down a lot of what checks it. It also gives you a way of getting in your other teammates through U-Turn which is a godsend due to the frailty of Medicham. If you'd rather increase the defensive capability of your team, Assault Vest is also a decent option to better your matchup against Serperior and the likes. Taunt is a good option on the LO as it gives you more stallbreaking ability, but if you see Skarmory as a bigger problem Heat Wave is a much better option.

Lastly you absolutely need a definite way of breaking psychic types when using Mega Medicham. Metagross, while a good choice, isn't an incredibly great way of insuring this as it's Pursuit's can't effectively deal with the bulkier crowd of psychic types. An easy fix to this would be to run Bisharp > Metagross. Bisharp still pressures a lot of Fairies while giving you another form of priority, wincondition, and a clear way of dealing with psychic types. while you do lose out on a significant amount of bulk with this change a defensive backbone of Latias, Clefable, and Hippowdon should still suffice to your needs as they together check a large amount of threats.
Tornadus-T @ Life Orb
Ability: Regenerator
EVs: 76 Atk / 180 SpA / 252 Spe
Hasty Nature
- Hurricane
- Taunt / Heat Wave
- Knock Off
- U-Turn

Tornadus-T @ Assault Vest
Ability: Regenerator
EVs: 96 HP / 160 SpA / 252 Spe
Hasty Nature
- Hurricane
- Heat Wave
- Knock Off
- U-Turn

Bisharp @ Life Orb
Ability: Defiant
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Knock Off
- Sucker Punch
- Iron Head
- Swords Dance
Thank you for the suggestions. I really do like the Tornadus-T > Raikou suggestion so I'll definitely be trying that out.
As for the Bisharp > Metagross suggestion I'm kind of iffy about that because I feel Mega Altaria and Fairies in general could be a problem.

Hello and welcome to Smogon.

I agree with Magic on his suggestion about Torn-T and I also think you should change Metagross. Instead of changing to Sharp, I believe you should change Metagross to Sand Rush Excadrill. The reason I'm suggesting this is because you have Hippo, which automatically brings sand, and Excadrill can add more offensive presence and speed to your team. It deals with Mega Altaria and an opposing Kyurem, which could be quite annoying for your team. This will also give Latias another healing wish target depending on the matchup. It checks Mega Metagross, Mega Lopunny, and Mega Gardevoir as well. It is a good mon for getting rid of faster threats that Clef doesn't appreciate staying in on to twave, to help Medi sweep, or to just go ahead and sweep itself. The adamant nature is to hit as hard as it can to help weaken threats as best as possible, and the life orb is to help with that as well. If you don't want LO, then you can also run air balloon to force ground types to hit you with stone edge or something before EQ so you can get up an SD up. It allows you to come in and SD up on scarfed EQers as well and prevents you from taking the steady drain of LO, which could make a difference in the match, but so could the power from LO. With this change you should also consider running Smooth Rock on your Hippowdon.

Have a good day and good luck battling.

Excadrill @ Life Orb
Ability: Sand Rush
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Earthquake
- Iron Head
- Rock Slide
- Swords Dance

Thanks for the rate. Excadril sounds like it would be a good replacement. Definitely will try it out. (:

Ehy very nice Team! :)
I think that Jirachi>Metagross is a good option, Jirachi help you vs Altaria and in general vs Fairy types, Fire Punch check Scizor that is a very problem for this team.
Maximum Speed EVs, when paired with a Choice Scarf and a Jolly nature, allow Jirachi to outrun every unboosted Pokemon in the metagame, Speed tie with other base 100s at +1, and outrun slower Choice Scarf users such as Kyurem-B and Landorus-T. The Attack investment maximizes Jirachi's offensive potential.
Jirachi @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Serene Grace
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Iron Head
- U-turn
- Fire Punch
- Healing Wish
Double Healing Wisher is useless, I think that Roost Latios>Latias is a better option:
Latios @ Life Orb
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 4 Def / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Draco Meteor
- Psyshock
- Roost
- Defog
Like I have vu-said Scizor is a very problem for this team, I think that WirliWhide Hippoown is a good option.
Hippowdon @ Leftovers
Ability: Sand Stream
EVs: 252 HP / 144 Def / 112 SpD
Impish Nature
- Earthquake
- Stealth Rock
- Slack Off
- WhirlWide
Hope help you and gl whith the team. :)

Thank you. I have switched Toxic out for Whirlwind as it helps with Belly Drum Azu and SD Scizor.

I think what was stated about bisharp over metagross would be nice. Once hippo is gone opposing bisharp give you the business. Maybe try an av bisharp for the bulk you like and run low kick to counter other bisharp. Since you have clef with twave the lati@s aren't to worry some to need pursuit on bish and so low kick would be there incase Hippo bites the dust and they still have a nice healthy bish that potentially could sweep you

Running Bisharp would make me extremely weak to Fairies. I have took one of the suggestios above and ran
Sand Rush Excadrill > Metagross and Smooth Rock > Leftovers on Hippo, which has helped a lot.
