PU Jellicent [QC: 3/3] [GP: 2/2] [HIGH PRIORITY]

uploaded -zard

[OVERVIEW]

Jellicent is an exceptional wallbreaker thanks to not only Water Spout but also a virtually unresisted STAB combination plus options like Trick to further cripple defensive Pokemon. Its support movepool, bulk, recovery, and typing let it also perform as a self-sufficient defensive spinblocker with great anti-stall utility, checking threats like Scyther, Crabominable, and Combusken while spinblocking effectively against Himtonchan and non-Toxic Alolan Sandslash. Water Absorb enhances its defensive capabilities, letting it pivot into Omastar and opposing Jellicent while checking offensive Qwilfish more reliably. Unfortunately, offensive threats to Jellicent are prevalent due to its typing weaknesses to common attackers like Lilligant, Skuntank, and Togedemaru. Pursuit trappers are also a major form of counterplay to wallbreaker sets. Toxic and entry hazards hinder its breaking potential and survivability despite its recovery, although Taunt can shut down many slower users of these moves. Nevertheless, Jellicent has a major teambuilding impact and is easily one of the best Pokemon in PU.

Moves
========

Water Spout is immensely powerful when Jellicent is healthy, notably 2HKOing Audino and Clefairy at its full power. Hydro Pump should be used instead when Jellicent reaches 73% HP or lower. Shadow Ball nets important coverage against Water-immune Pokemon like opposing Jellicent and Poliwrath and covers Water-resistant foes. Ice Beam handles Pokemon like Alolan Exeggutor, Drampa, Roselia, and Cradily. Alternatively, Trick cripples special walls, which is ideal if they can no longer be 2HKOed by Water Spout.

Set Details
========

Maximum Speed allows Jellicent to outpace Jolly Aggron and everything below it.

Usage Tips
========

Bring Jellicent in through momentum moves from teammates or successful double switching to avoid direct damage, as maintaining Water Spout's massive power is key for punching holes. Common early-game Pokemon Jellicent punishes include Stealth Rock users like Regirock, Mudsdale, and Mesprit, so keeping up pressure helps to keep them off the field. Its STAB moves can be exploited by bulky Pokemon resistant or immune to them, so one must anticipate possible switch-ins like Skuntank, Alolan Exeggutor, Type: Null, and opposing Jellicent and punish them with the right move. Jellicent's typing and bulk still let it defensively check Floatzel, Combusken, or Qwilfish, which is encouraged if it doesn't need Water Spout for wallbreaking, although its ability can help boost it back up on a timely switch. Trick is a last-resort tool for when Water Spout's power is weakened and is often Jellicent's backup option for crippling special walls. Unless Jellicent needs to play more aggressively early-game, waiting for Pursuit trappers to be removed to preserve its defensive capabilities is sometimes worth considering. If Pursuit trappers are present, Jellicent can still afford to play aggressively if backed with Healing Wish support.

Team Options
========

Pokemon that give momentum such as Silvally-Dragon, Type: Null, Togedemaru, and Primeape can create wallbreaking opportunities without forcing Jellicent to take damage. Healing Wish Mesprit and Z-Parting Shot Alolan Persian can do this while simultaneously being able to heal Jellicent, creating another chance for Jellicent to fire off max-power Water Spout. Pokemon like Scyther, Roselia, Oricorio-E, and Skuntank are great to have in general, as they offer solid resistances to Jellicent's weaknesses. Water-weak Pokemon like Regirock, Combusken, and Mudsdale appreciate Jellicent's ability. Setup sweepers and cleaners like Lilligant, Lycanroc, and Flyinium Z Dodrio appreciate the holes opened for them to win.

[SET COMMENTS]
Moves
========

Scald threatens switch-ins with its burn chance and hits Normal-types. Alternatively, Hex synergizes well with Will-O-Wisp and prevents being walled by Jynx and opposing Jellicent. The potential damage boost also helps deal solid damage to Lanturn, Gurdurr, and Qwilfish. Taunt disrupts defensive Pokemon and forms of status, and with Recover, it helps it beat these Pokemon one-on-one. Will-O-Wisp cripples physical attackers and is an important tool for easing Jellicent's matchup against Dark-type Pokemon like Absol and physical Skuntank.

Set Details
========

Colbur Berry's damage reduction allows Jellicent to retaliate reliably with Will-O-Wisp against Dark-type Pokemon and grants it a better matchup against Pokemon with Dark-type coverage like Gurdurr. Leftovers adds passive recovery, making Jellicent less easily worn down by chip damage. The Speed lets Jellicent Taunt Carracosta before it can Shell Smash.

Usage Tips
========

Jellicent pressures defensive teams via Taunt, disrupting passive Pokemon that try to cripple it with status or set up. This set also switches into threats more liberally due to its increased defenses and recovery, so use attributes like Jellicent's Ghost typing and Water Absorb to spinblock or switch into Water-type threats. It's important to play around coverage moves from the likes of Crabominale and Hitmonchan, though. Colbur Berry promotes more aggressive play against Dark-types, while Leftovers variants should play more cautiously and try to punish them on the switch with potential burns. Status, especially Toxic, is detrimental to Jellicent’s role and must be avoided; while Taunt can let Jellicent beat Pokemon like Clefairy and Quagsire in a one-on-one scenario, it should always make careful predictions when switching in against them.

Team Options
========

Roselia is often worth using alongside Jellicent, as it's the Spikes user with the best typing synergy, can absorb Toxic Spikes and Toxic, and counters Lilligant and Lanturn. Other potential Grass- and Electric-type teammates include Oricorio-E and Alolan Exeggutor; Oricorio-E can also set up Calm Mind against Lanturn and Eelektross and check Gurdurr. Meanwhile, Alolan Exeggutor is a wallbreaker or late-game sweeper that appreciates Jellicent pressuring specially bulky Pokemon like Type: Null and Clefairy. Dark-type switch-ins are also needed, making Pokemon like Gurdurr, Skuntank, and Silvally-Fairy highly recommended. Skuntank also acts as a Toxic Spikes absorber and Pursuit trapper to Ghost-types, alleviating pressure for other purposes also. Clerics and status absorbers like Type: Null, Audino, Throh, and Clefairy are solid countermeasures to status inducers. These Pokemon also deal with many specially offensive threats that can pressure Jellicent. Pokemon weak to Water and Fighting like Regirock, Combusken, Alolan Sandslash, and Lycanroc benefit from Jellicent's presence discouraging them and its ability to check them well. Toxic Spikes users like Weezing and the aforementioned Roselia help Jellicent power up its Hex and pressure bulkier builds in general, and it can maintain them on the field thanks to its spinblocking capabilities.

[STRATEGY COMMENTS]
Other Options
=============

A specially defensive spread of 252 HP / 76 Def / 116 SpD / 64 Spe with a Calm nature can let Jellicent counter Omastar, beat certain weaker special attackers like Lanturn and Tangela, and soft check Drampa. 80 HP / 252 Def / 176 Spe with a Timid nature on the utility set cuts a lot of its bulk but lets it outspeed Jolly Aggron. Scald and Surf on Choice Specs variants offer more accuracy and utility than Hydro Pump, but the loss of power usually isn't desirable. Toxic works either in tandem with Will-O-Wisp for dual status or with Taunt to break down Pokemon with reliable recovery more easily, but it comes at the cost of other important utility. Jellicent can set up Trick Room for teammates while being threatening itself thanks to its surprise factor and the prospect of full-power Water Spout against faster teams, but Alolan Exeggutor usually performs this role more consistently.

Checks and Counters
===================

**Grass-types**: Lilligant, Lurantis, Bellossom, and Alolan Exeggutor can switch into defensive sets with ease or take resisted hits from offensive sets and apply heavy pressure with their setup options or STAB attacks. Roselia and Cradily solidly check Choice Specs Jellicent, reliably switching into any attack but Ice Beam.

**Electric-types**: Lanturn, Oricorio-E, Manectric, and Eelektross can tank weak hits, aren't too bothered by status options, and can break Jellicent down with their STAB attacks or, in Oricorio's case, set up with Calm Mind. Barring bulky variants of Lanturn, they don't appreciate switching into Choice Specs-boosted attacks, however.

**Dark-types**: Although Colbur Berry can mitigate their threat level, Dark-types like Skuntank, Alolan Raticate, and Liepard still apply a lot of pressure with their strong, super effective STAB attacks and ability to limit Choice Specs sets' presence via Pursuit trapping.

**Specially Defensive Pokemon**: While Jellicent's full-power Water Spout can break through most specially defense foes, specially defensive Articuno can comfortably take a hit and is faster, letting it hit Jellicent with Freeze-Dry and weaken Water Spout's subsequent hits or Roost stall its Pressure-limited PP. If Water Spout is weakened, Jellicent can potentially fail to 2HKO other Pokemon like Clefairy and Audino, although they still must watch out for Trick.

**Ghost-types**: Pokemon like Oricorio-G and Haunter can't directly switch in on offensive sets but are faster and can threaten Jellicent out with their powerful STAB attacks. Oricorio-G can also capitalize on more defensive sets by using them as setup fodder.

**Residual Damage**: Status, especially Toxic, and chip damage from entry hazards hinder Jellicent's durability for what it needs to check and force it to recover more often instead of crippling them. This also affects offensive sets, weakening Water Spout's power.

**Pursuit**: Like the aforementioned Dark-types, Pokemon like Stoutland and Choice Band Scyther and Dodrio can trap Choice Specs Jellicent as it switches out to preserve its HP or after it locks itself into a move that can be taken advantage of.

[OVERVIEW]
  • Jellicent's support movepool, bulk, Ghost / Water typing, and offensive versatility give it extremely influential roles of either a bulky spinblocker with great anti-stall utility or a fearsome wallbreaker with great dual STAB and a nuke option to pressure defensive teams. (you sort of repeat this last bit later and then elaborate a bit more, so putting it here too seems sort of redundant.)
  • Defensively, it checks threatening Pokemon like Scyther, Crabominable, and Combusken, and can spinblock effectively against Hitmonchan and Alolan Sandslash. (either specify non-toxic variants here or mention this as an example of pokemon that can potentially catch it off guard later when you mention its vulnerability to hazards and toxic.)
  • Water Absorb enhances its defensive capabilities, letting it pivot into Omastar and opposing Jellicent, while checking Rain Sweeper Qwilfish much more effectively.
  • Reliable recovery gives it staying power to carry out its utility roles and check threats consistently
  • Choice Specs is a top wallbreaker, which not only utilizes Water Spout, but also has a virtually unresisted STAB combination with options like Trick to further cripple defensive Pokemon.
  • Unfortunately, offensive pressure is prevalent due to Jellicent's common weaknesses to Electric-, Grass-, Dark-, and Ghost-types. These Pokemon are often faster threats that either threaten it or set up on it, notably Lilligant, Lanturn, and Oricorio-E/G.
  • Reliant on Colbur Berry to ease pressure against Dark-types, as without it, it's prone to being Pursuit trapped, a major form of counterplay to wallbreaker sets.
  • Vulnerability to entry hazards and Toxic hinders its survivability despite its recovery, although Taunt can shut down many slower users of these moves.
  • Utterly bullshit rage-inducing S-tier sack of shit with a large teambuilding impact nevertheless

Moves
========
  • Scald deals consistent damage and deters physical attackers with its burn chance. (being able to actually damage normals is cool, too.)
  • Hex synergizes well with Will-O-Wisp and prevents it from being walled by Jynx and opposing Jellicent. The damage boost from status helps to deal solid damage to Lanturn, Gurdurr, and Qwilfish.
  • Taunt disrupts defensive Pokemon like Clefairy, Quagsire, and Type: Null, removing their sources of recovery and preventing them from retaliating with Toxic. It also prevents setup from Carracosta.
  • Recover heals off damage taken, letting it 1v1 defensive Pokemon crippled by Taunt and for Jellicent to check the Pokemon it does consistently throughout the match
  • Will-O-Wisp cripples physical attackers like Mudsdale and Kangaskhan. It's also an important tool for easing Jellicent's matchup against Dark-type Pokemon like Absol or Choice Band Skuntank that try to pressure it.
Set Details
========
  • Colbur Berry's damage reduction allows Jellicent to retaliate reliably with Will-O-Wisp against Dark-type Pokemon in a one-on-one scenario.
  • Leftovers adds passive recovery, making it less easily worn down by chip damage (any sort of trade-off by opting for leftovers instead?)
  • Speed lets Jellicent Taunt Carracosta before it can Shell Smash (not being taunted or wisped by weezing first is also notable.)
Usage Tips
========
  • Switch Jellicent in on attackers it's designed to beat like AV Crab, Combusken, Type: Null, and Alolan Sandslash.
  • Jellicent pressures defensive teams via Taunt against slower Pokemon, as many of them may attempt to crippled it with status or take advantage of it to set up, like Clefairy. It can also prevent Pokemon like Mudsdale or Regirock from getting up Stealth Rock, or Audino from healing.
  • Take advantage of certain attributes like Jellicent's Ghost-typing and Water Absorb to either spinblock against Pokemon like Hitmonchan, Kabutops and Alolan Sandslash or switch into attackers like Omastar and Floatzel
  • Preserving Colbur Berry is ideal in the right matchup, as it enables scenarios where it can take on powerful physical Dark-types 1v1. Pokemon like physical Skuntank or Alolan Raticate can be burned by Will-O-Wisp, after which Jellicent can take subsequent hits much easier.
  • If instead running Leftovers, Jellicent should avoid taking direct hits from Dark-types and instead actively threaten switch ins with potential burns accumulated from Scald or Will-O-Wisp.
  • Despite its recovery, certain status, particularly Toxic, are detrimental to Jellicent's role and thus must be avoided. Taunt can block attempts from slower Pokemon, but Jellicent should also be wary about switching into them recklessly. Sometimes double switching or pivoting from a teammate is ideal in these matchups.
  • You could probs make a point about, like, sometimes scouting for coverage against stuff you're gonna switch into a lot, like Thunder Punch on Combusken, this one in particular sucking if you don't have Scald. Easy to say about defensive mons, yeah, but I've found that super effective coverage can be a little annoying.
Team Options
========
  • Roselia is often worth using alongside Jellicent, as it's the Spikes user with the best typing synergy while absorbing Toxic Spikes / Toxic and countering Lilligant and Lanturn.
  • Other Grass-, and Electric-types include Oricorio-E, Alolan Exeggutor and bulky Alolan Sandslash; Oricorio-E can also set up Calm Mind against Lanturn and Eelektross and check Gurdurr effective, while Alolan Sandslash can remove hazards. Both Pokemon also fare well against Oricorio-G. Meanwhile, Alolan Exeggutor is as a late-game sweeper or breaker that appreciates Jellicent pressuring specially bulky Pokemon like Type: Null and Clefairy.
  • Dark-type switch ins are also needed despite Colbur Berry's utility, (this last bit seems sort of unnecessary. you want dark switch-ins no matter what.) making Pokemon like Gurdurr, Skuntank, and Silvally-Fairy highly recommended. Skuntank also acts as a Toxic Spikes absorber and Pursuit trapper to Ghosts, alleviating a pressure for other purposes also.
  • Clerics and status absorbers like Lurantis, Type: Null, Throh, and Clefairy are solid backbones to status inducers (the latter three are also good at dealing with specially offensive threats can pressure jellicent.)
  • Pokemon weak to Water and Fighting like Regirock, Combusken, and Lycanroc benefit well from Jellicent's presence discouraging them and checking threats of those typing well
  • Toxic Spikes users like Weezing and the aforementioned Roselia help Jellicent power up its Hex and pressure bulkier builds in general, and it can maintain them on the field thanks to its spinblocking capabilities.

Moves
========
  • Water Spout is a 100% accurate STAB that acts as an immensely powerful nuke when Jellicent is healthy, notably 2HKOing Audino and Clefairy at its full power.
  • Hydro Pump is an alternative Water STAB move that is meant to be used when Jellicent reaches 73% HP or lower.
  • Shadow Ball nets important coverage against Water immune Pokemon like opposing Jellicent and Poliwrath and covers Water resistant foes much more reliably after Water Spout's power has been compromised.
  • Trick cripples specially walls effectively, which is ideal if they can no longer be 2HKOed by Water Spout.
  • Ice Beam's main use is in its ability to OHKO Lilligant and Exeggutor-Alola, while also hitting Drampa, Lurantis, and Cradily especially hard.
Set Details
========
  • Max Speed allows Jellicent to outpace Jolly Aggron and everything below it.
  • Water Absorb can grant Jellicent more switch-in opportunities against Water-types, and replenishing its HP can potentially boost Water Spout's power back up.
Usage Tips
========
  • Ideally bring Jellicent in through momentum moves from teammates or solid double switching to avoid direct damage, as maintaining Water Spout's massive power is key for punching holes.
  • Jellicent excels in threatening common Stealth Rock users like Regirock, Mudsdale, and Mesprit, so leading in these matchups are great for keeping them off the field
  • Jellicent's STAB combination can be exploited by immunities or bulky resists, so one must ascertain possible switch-ins like Skuntank, Poliwrath, Alolan Exeggutor, Type: Null, or opposing Jellicent and punish them with the right move.
  • Jellicent's typing and bulk still lets it defensively check Floatzel, Combusken, or Qwilfish, which is especially encouraged if it doesn't need Water Spout for wallbreaking, although its ability can help boost it back up on a timely switch.
  • Trick is meant to be a last resort tool for when Water Spout's power is weakened, as that's often Jellicent's back-up option for crippling special walls.
  • Waiting for Pursuit trappers to be removed if you plan on preserving Jellicent unless you want the opposing team torn down for a particular teammate is sometimes worth considering.
Team Options
========
  • Pokemon that give momentum like Silvally, Type: Null, Togedemaru, and Primeape can help create opportunities for Jelli to come it without taking prior damage
  • Healing Wish Mesprit and Z-Parting Shot Persian-Alola can do this while also being able to heal by extension, creating another chance for Jellicent to fire off max-powered Water Spouts
  • Pokemon like Scyther, Roselia, Oricorio-E, and Skuntank are great to have in general as they offer solid resists to Jellicent's weaknesses, respectively (nothing is being listed, so nuke respectively.)
  • Water-weak Pokemon like Regirock, Combusken, and Mudsdale appreciate a safely net for punishing Water-type moves with Jellicent's ability
  • Setup sweepers and cleaners like Lilligant, Lycanroc, and Flyinium Z Dodrio appreciate the wholes (i'll half you know that it is holes.) opening up for them to win
[STRATEGY COMMENTS]
Other Options
=============
  • Cursed Body can disable useful moves like Gurdurr's Knock Off or Hitmonchan's Thunder Punch but is eclipsed by Water Absorb's utility
  • Magic Coat can reflect back entry hazards or status-inducing moves from Pokemon like Qwilfish, Froslass, Sableye, and Poliwrath, but Jellicent struggles to give up its main utility options otherwise
  • Fairium Z makes Jellicent Trick-proof and take less damage from Knock Off, while smacking Dark-types, Gurdurr, and offensive Dragon-types like Drampa and Alolan Exeggutor.
  • Toxic works either in tandem with Will-O-Wisp for dual status, or with Taunt to break down Pokemon with reliable recovery easier but the cost is freeing up important utility slots
  • SpDef spread (252 HP / 76 Def / 116 SpD / 64 Spe Calm) can be useful on balance to hard check Omastar, beat certain weaker special attackers like bulky/AV Lanturn and Tangela, and can soft check Drampa (compared to the other options provided, spdef feels a lot more consistent and useful, so move it up to like maybe one of the first few points imo.)
  • Some type of Trick Room set should be listed here, they're actually p threatening in certain situations.
Checks and Counters
===================

**Grass-types**: Lilligant, Lurantis, Bellossom, Alolan Exeggutor, and Roselia can switch into defensive sets with ease or take resisted hits from offensive sets and apply heavy pressure with their set up options or STAB attacks. (should probs go on and say that rose can actually switch into specs sets besides ice beam.) (imo, put cradily here. solid check and isn't 2HKOed by ice beam.)

**Electric-types**: Lanturn, Oricorio-E, Manectric, and Eelektross can tank weak hits, aren't too bothered by status options, and can break it down with their STAB or in Oricorio's case, set up against Jellicent with Calm Mind. Barring bulky variants of Lanturn, they don't appreciate switching into Choice Specs-boosted attacks, however.

**Dark-types**: Although Colbur Berry can mitigate their threat level, Dark-types like Skuntank, Alolan Raticate, and Liepard still apply a lot of pressure with their strong, super effective STAB and ability to limit Choice Specs' presence via Pursuit trapping.

**Specially Defensive Pokemon**: While Jellicent's full-powered Water Spouts can break through most, Specially Defensive Articuno can comfortably take a hit and is faster, letting it Freeze-Dry and weaken Water Spout's subsequent hits or Roost stall its limited PP (especially with Pressure). If Water Spout is weakened, Jellicent can potentially fail to 2HKO other Pokemon like Clefairy and Audino, although they still much (must) watch out for Trick.

**Ghost-types**: Pokemon like Oricorio-G and Haunter can't directly switch in on offensive sets, but are faster and can threaten Jellicent out with their powerful STABs. Oricorio-G can also capitalize on more defensive sets by using them as setup fodder.

**Residual Damage**: Status, especially Toxic, and chip damage from entry hazards hinder Jellicent's ability to stay durable for what it needs to check despite its lack of recovery. (forces it to recover more often.) This also affects offensive sets, weakening Water Spout's power.

**Pursuit**: Like the aforementioned Dark-types, Pokemon like Stoutland and Choice Band Scyther/Dodrio can trap Choice Specs Jellicent as it switches out to preserve its HP or after being locked into a move that can be taken advantage of.

It seems like this was written a little early into jellicent's lifespan, the overview should focus more on specs before defensive (swap the order and emphasis around in writeup) and the sets should be re-ordered too. also it being vulnerable to all forms of hazard and status is worth mentioning, being easy to chip/trap is a big factor in balancing out jellicent, especially specs. really though like all the info is good, it's just that it's more focused on the relevant but less important defensive set

this doesn't look like it's working with the new standards at all. the entire set is super self explanatory, aside going into the benefits of scald vs hex a bit, most of this can be extremely cut down. I'm gonna look back after writeup, or you can just ask me about it, but this is a prime example of not needing just about everything here

most of these points fall under the no shit category. you can talk about spinblocking, the point about taunt should go more into stallbreaking than the super obvious "it stops status moves", there's something to be said about careful predictions and pivoting into lots of mons that rely on hard reads w/coverage to beat jelly, really just needs more "higher level" (for lack of a better word) points. Oh and I guess "dont get toxic'd" could be alright if u gave better examples like null u want to switch into or quagsire is a 50/50 on switch since u can tox once ur in. point is, the point of the new standards is precisely so you dont have to waste time on stuff like "colbur berry beats dark types"

Moves
========

  • Water Spout is a 100% accurate STAB that acts as an immensely powerful nuke when Jellicent is healthy, notably 2HKOing Audino and Clefairy at its full power.
  • Hydro Pump is an alternative Water STAB move that is most effective when Jellicent reaches 73% HP or lower.
  • Shadow Ball nets important coverage against Water immune Pokemon like opposing Jellicent and Poliwrath and covers Water resistant foes much more reliably after Water Spout's power is compromised.
  • Ice Beam OHKOed Lilligant and Exeggutor-Alola, while also hitting Drampa, Lurantis, and Cradily especially hard.
  • Alternatively, Trick cripples specially walls effectively, which is ideal if they can no longer be 2HKOed by Water Spout.
less bad than above but you can definitely cut it down when this gets written up

Set Details
========

  • Max Speed allows Jellicent to outpace Jolly Aggron and everything below it.
  • Water Absorb can grant Jellicent more switch-in opportunities against Water-types, and replenishing its HP can potentially boost Water Spout's power back up. this is in the obvious camp
Usage Tips
========

  • Ideally bring Jellicent in through momentum moves from teammates or solid double switching to avoid direct damage, as maintaining Water Spout's massive power is key for punching holes.
  • Jellicent excels in threatening common Stealth Rock users like Regirock, Mudsdale, and Mesprit, so leading in these matchups are great for keeping them off the field i dont like using this to make a point about leads, it says more about when you can double and how to pressure than it does about blind leading
  • Its dual STAB can be exploited by immunities or bulky resists, so one must ascertain possible switch-ins like Skuntank, Poliwrath, Alolan Exeggutor, Type: Null, or opposing Jellicent and punish them with the right move.
  • Unless Jellicent needs to play more aggressively early-game, waiting for Pursuit trappers to be removed to preserve its defensive capabilities is sometimes worth considering. a point about being able to play more recklessly if you got healing wish support wouldn't be out of place
Team Options
========

  • Pokemon that give momentum like Silvally gotta specify a type or it means normal, Type: Null, Togedemaru, and Primeape can help create opportunities for Jelli to come it without taking prior damage
  • Healing Wish Mesprit and Z-Parting Shot Persian-Alola can do this while also being able to heal by extension, creating another chance for Jellicent to fire off max-powered Water Spouts
  • Pokemon like Scyther, Roselia, Oricorio-E, and Skuntank are great to have in general as they offer solid resists to Jellicent's weaknesses.
  • Water-weak Pokemon like Regirock, Combusken, and Mudsdale appreciate a safety net for punishing Water-type moves with Jellicent's ability
  • Setup sweepers and cleaners like Lilligant, Lycanroc, and Flyinium Z Dodrio appreciate the holes opened for them to win
[STRATEGY COMMENTS]
Other Options
=============

  • SpDef spread (252 HP / 76 Def / 116 SpD / 64 Spe Calm) can be useful on balance to hard check Omastar, beat certain weaker special attackers like bulky/AV Lanturn and Tangela, and can soft check Drampa.
  • Cursed Body can disable useful moves like Gurdurr's Knock Off or Hitmonchan's Thunder Punch but is eclipsed by Water Absorb's utility. dont mention this sucks
  • Magic Coat deflects entry hazards and status-inducing moves from Pokemon like Qwilfish, Froslass, Sableye, and Poliwrath, but Jellicent struggles to give up its main utility options otherwise. not seeing how this is good enough to mention
  • Fairium Z makes Jellicent Trick-proof and take less damage from Knock Off, while smacking Dark-types, Gurdurr, and offensive Dragon-types like Drampa and Alolan Exeggutor. also not seeing why this over other z crystals like ghostium
  • Toxic works either in tandem with Will-O-Wisp for dual status, or with Taunt to break down Pokemon with reliable recovery easier but the cost is freeing up important utility slots.
  • Jellicent can set up Trick Room for teammates while having being a fairly threatening attacker itself, but this is outdone by Alolan Exeggutor. if this was fully outdone it wouldnt be worth a mention. it's at least somewhat unique if u get hte surprise factor and stay at 100% for TR water spouts
Checks and Counters
===================

**Grass-types**: Lilligant, Lurantis, Bellossom, and Alolan Exeggutor can switch into defensive sets with ease or take resisted hits from offensive sets and apply heavy pressure with their set up options or STAB attacks. Roselia and Cradily solidly checks Choice Specs Jellicent, reliably switching into any attack barring Ice Beam.

If Water Spout is weakened, Jellicent can potentially fail to 2HKO other Pokemon like Clefairy and Audino, although they still must watch out for Trick.

**Ghost-types**: Pokemon like Oricorio-G and Haunter can't directly switch in on offensive sets but are faster and can threaten Jellicent out with their powerful STABs. Oricorio-G can also capitalize on more defensive sets by using them as setup fodder.

**Residual Damage**: Status, especially Toxic, and chip damage from entry hazards hinder Jellicent's durability for what it needs to check and forces it to recover more often instead of crippling them. This also affects offensive sets, weakening Water Spout's power.

**Pursuit**: Like the aforementioned Dark-types, Pokemon like Stoutland and Choice Band Scyther/Dodrio can trap Choice Specs Jellicent as it switches out to preserve its HP or after being locked into a move that can be taken advantage of.

[OVERVIEW]

Jellicent is an exceptional wallbreaker thanks to not only Water Spout but also a virtually unresisted STAB combination with options like Trick to further cripple defensive Pokemon. Moreover, its support movepool, bulk, recovery, and typing also give it self-sufficient roles as a defensive spinblocker with great anti-stall utility. It checks threats like Scyther, Crabominable, and Combusken while spinblocking effectively against Himtonchan and non-Toxic Alolan Sandslash. Water Absorb enhances its defensive capabilities, letting it pivot into Omastar and opposing Jellicent while checking offensive Qwilfish more reliably. Unfortunately, offensive threats to Jellicent are prevalent due to its common weaknesses to Electric-, Grass-, Dark-, and Ghost-types. (this is kinda obvious, replace the types with actual mons)It’s also reliant on Colbur Berry to ease pressure against Dark-types, and Pursuit trappers are a major form of counterplay to wallbreaker sets. (this seems more like a set details kinda thing, not to mention its the specs set that really struggles with pursuit mons)Toxic and entry hazards hinder its breaking potential and survivability despite its recovery, although Taunt can shut down many slower users of these moves. Nevertheless, Jellicent has a major teambuilding impact and is easily one of the best Pokemon in PU.

Moves
========

Scald threatens switch-ins with its burn chance and hits Normal-types. Alternatively, Hex synergizes well with Will-O-Wisp and prevents being walled by Jynx and opposing Jellicent. The potential damage boost also helps to deal solid damage to Lanturn, Gurdurr, and Qwilfish. Taunt disrupts defensive Pokemon and forms of status and with Recover, helps to 1v1 Pokemon crippled by it and otherwise keep Jellicent healthy. Will-O-Wisp cripples physical attackers and is an important tool for easing Jellicent's matchup against Dark-type Pokemon like Absol or physical Skuntank.

Set Details
========

Colbur Berry's damage reduction allows Jellicent to retaliate reliably with Will-O-Wisp against Dark-type Pokemon in a one-on-one scenario. (also lets it take stuff like knock off better from gurdurr)Leftovers adds passive recovery, making it less easily worn down by chip damage Speed lets Jellicent Taunt Carracosta before it can Shell Smash.

Usage Tips
========

Jellicent pressures defensive teams via Taunt, disrupting passive Pokemon that try to cripple it with status or set up. This set also checks threats more liberally due to its increased defenses and recovery, so use attributes like Jellicent's Ghost-typing and Water Absorb to either spinblock or switch into Water-type threats more reliably. It is important to play around coverage moves from the likes of Crabominale, Hitmonchan, and Combusken though. Colbur Berry promotes more aggressive play against Dark-types, while Leftovers variants should play more evasive and try to punish them on the switch with potential burns. Status, especially Toxic, is detrimental to Jellicent’s role and must be avoided; while Taunt can beat Pokemon like Clefairy and Quagsire in a 1v1 scenario, it should always make careful predictions when switching in against them.

Team Options
========

Roselia is often worth using alongside Jellicent, as it's the Spikes user with the best typing synergy while absorbing Toxic Spikes / Toxic and countering Lilligant and Lanturn. Other Grass-, and Electric-types include Oricorio-E, Alolan Exeggutor and bulky Alolan Sandslash(snowslash is my fav grass/electric mon); Oricorio-E can also set up Calm Mind against Lanturn and Eelektross and check Gurdurr, while Alolan Sandslash can remove hazards. Both Pokemon also fare well against Oricorio-G. Meanwhile, Alolan Exeggutor is as a late-game sweeper or breaker that appreciates Jellicent pressuring specially bulky Pokemon like Type: Null and Clefairy. Dark-type switch ins are also needed, making Pokemon like Gurdurr, Skuntank, and Silvally-Fairy highly recommended. Skuntank also acts as a Toxic Spikes absorber and Pursuit trapper to Ghosts, alleviating a pressure for other purposes also. Clerics and status absorbers like Type: Null, Throh, and Clefairy (none of these are clarics bar the rare heal bell clef)are solid backbones to status inducers. These Pokemon also deal with many specially offensive threats that can pressure Jellicent. Pokemon weak to Water and Fighting like Regirock, Combusken, and Lycanroc benefit from Jellicent's presence discouraging them and checking threats of those typing well. Toxic Spikes users like Weezing and the aforementioned Roselia help Jellicent power up its Hex and pressure bulkier builds in general, and it can maintain them on the field thanks to its spinblocking capabilities.

A SpDef spread of 252 HP / 76 Def / 116 SpD / 64 Spe with a Calm nature can counter Omastar, beat certain weaker special attackers like buky Lanturn and Tangela, and soft check Drampa. (Whats the reason for the 76 Def?)Toxic works either in tandem with Will-O-Wisp for dual status, or with Taunt to break down Pokemon with reliable recovery easier but the cost is freeing up important utility slots. Jellicent can set up Trick Room for teammates while being threatening itself thanks to its surprise factor and the prospect of full-powered Water Spouts against faster teams, but Alolan Exeggutor usually performs this role more consistently.
(also mention surf, scald, and timid for specs)(252 HP / 80 Def / 176 Spe Timid is a faster defensive spread some people have been using, so mention it too ig)

Usage Tips
========

Its STAB moves can be exploited by bulky Pokemon resistant or immune to them, so one must anticipate possible switch-ins like Skuntank, Alolan Exeggutor, Type: Null, or and opposing Jellicent and punish them with the right move.

========

Pokemon that give momentum like Silvally-Dragon, Type: Null, Togedemaru, and Primeape can help create wallbreaking opportunities to come it without taking prior without forcing Jellicent to damage. Healing Wish Mesprit and Z-Parting Shot Alolan Persian can do this while simultaneously being able to heal Jellicent, creating another chance for Jellicent to fire off max-powered Water Spouts. Pokemon like Scyther, Roselia, Oricorio-E, and Skuntank are great to have in general, as they offer solid resistances to Jellicent's weaknesses. Water-weak Pokemon like Regirock, Combusken, and Mudsdale appreciate a safety net for punishing Water-type moves with Jellicent's ability. Setup sweepers and cleaners like Lilligant, Lycanroc, and Flyinium Z Dodrio appreciate the holes opened for them to win.

Moves
========

Taunt disrupts defensive Pokemon and forms of status, and with Recover, it helps beat Pokemon one-on-one that are crippled by it and otherwise keep Jellicent healthy. Will-O-Wisp cripples physical attackers and is an important tool for easing Jellicent's matchup against Dark-type Pokemon like Absol or and physical Skuntank.

Set Details
========

Usage Tips
========

Jellicent pressures defensive teams via Taunt, disrupting passive Pokemon that try to cripple it with status or try to set up. This set also checks switches into threats more liberally due to its increased defenses and recovery, so use attributes like Jellicent's Ghost typing and ability Water Absorb to spinblock or switch into Water-type threats more reliably.

========

Roselia is often worth using alongside Jellicent, as it's the Spikes user with the best typing synergy, (comma) and can also absorb Toxic Spikes and Toxic, (comma) and counters Lilligant and Lanturn. Other potential Grass- and Electric-type teammates include Oricorio-E and Alolan Exeggutor; Oricorio-E can also set up Calm Mind against Lanturn and Eelektross and check Gurdurr. Meanwhile, Alolan Exeggutor is a wallbreaker or late-game sweeper or breaker that appreciates Jellicent pressuring specially bulky Pokemon like Type: Null and Clefairy. Dark-type switch-ins are also needed, making Pokemon like Gurdurr, Skuntank, and Silvally-Fairy highly recommended. Skuntank also acts as a Toxic Spikes absorber and Pursuit trapper to Ghosts Ghost-types, alleviating pressure for other purposes also.

Other Options
=============

Toxic works either in tandem with Will-O-Wisp for dual status or with Taunt to break down Pokemon with reliable recovery more easily, but it comes at the cost of losing other important utility slots. Jellicent can set up Trick Room for teammates while being threatening itself thanks to its surprise factor and the prospect of full-powered Water Spouts against faster teams, but Alolan Exeggutor usually performs this role more consistently.

Checks and Counters
===================

**Grass-types**: Lilligant, Lurantis, Bellossom, and Alolan Exeggutor can switch into defensive sets with ease or take resisted hits from offensive sets and apply heavy pressure with their setup options or STAB attacks. Roselia and Cradily solidly check Choice Specs Jellicent, reliably switching into any attack barring but Ice Beam.

**Electric-types**: Lanturn, Oricorio-E, Manectric, and Eelektross can tank weak hits, aren't too bothered by status options, and can break Jellicent down with their STAB attacks or, in Oricorio's case, set up against it with Calm Mind.

**Specially Defensive Pokemon**: While Jellicent's full-powered Water Spouts can break through most specially defense foes, specially defensive Articuno can comfortably take a hit and is faster, letting it hit Jellicent with Freeze-Dry and weaken Water Spout's subsequent hits or Roost stall its Pressure-limited PP (especially with Pressure).

**Residual Damage**: Status, especially Toxic, and chip damage from entry hazards hinder Jellicent's durability for what it needs to check and forces it to recover more often instead of crippling them. This also affects offensive sets, weakening Water Spout's power.

**Pursuit**: Like the aforementioned Dark-types, Pokemon like Stoutland and Choice Band Scyther and Dodrio can trap Choice Specs Jellicent as it switches out to preserve its HP or after it locks itself into a move that can be taken advantage of.
