Julien's OU Team!

Hi there! I'm a little new to the forums and was hoping to stick around for a while because I've been playing Pokemon Showdown for quite a while. It's a very neat application! Anyways, let's get to my OU team (my rain team).
--------------------------------------------------------------------------

Politoed @ Leftovers
Trait: Drizzle
EVs: 252 SDef / 252 HP / 4 SAtk
Calm Nature
- Scald
- Perish Song
- Encore
- Ice Beam
This is the normal rain lead. He doesn't have much of a purpose in the battle except to execute the rain. I gave him toxic and encore just to mess with my foe, and ice beam and hydro pump incase I found that the other person was weak to these moves.

Jirachi @ Choice Scarf
Trait: Serene Grace
EVs: 252 Spd / 252 Atk / 4 SAtk
Hasty Nature
- Thunder
- Trick
- Iron Head
- U-Turn
Jirachi plays a big role in my rain team. His serene grace makes every one of its moves a threat. I've been told that King's Rock does multiple things, so I gave it to Jirachi just incase it increases the chance of flinching. Thunder will never miss in the rain, and also has a 60% chance of paralysis with serene grace. The other moves are basic attacking moves that have a status effect.

Starmie @ Life Orb
Trait: Natural Cure
EVs: 252 Atk / 244 HP / 12 Spd
Timid Nature
- Hydro Pump
- Psyshock
- Ice Beam
- Rapid Spin
After taking a suggestion to consideration, I've learned that Starmie is great for destroying the possible rocks being set up to destroy Volcarona. Starmie has incredible speed, which is essential in a battle giving you a great advantage. The hydro pump, psyshock, and ice beam definitely take care of most threats.

Vaporeon @ Leftovers
Trait: Hydration
EVs: 252 Def / 252 HP / 4 SAtk
Bold Nature
- Rest
- Scald
- Wish
- Protect
A HUGE asset. Vaporeon's hydration causes the sleep status to go away after rest is used. Wish is there just incase health gets low. However, with 252 HP EV's, Vaporeon's HP should protect it for wish to kick in. Scald and ice beam are the basic attack moves associated with Vaporeon.

Dragonite @ Leftovers
Trait: Multiscale
EVs: 252 SDef / 252 HP / 4 Atk
Gentle Nature
- Hurricane
- Aqua Tail
- Thunder
- Roost
Dragonite is definitely a beast for a rain team. His stats are all around incredible and his learnable moves are great in the rain. Multiscale prepares it for any move it encounters, and roost will put it back at maximum HP for multiscale to kick in. Hurricane and thunder will never miss, and aqua tail is more powerful in the rain.

Volcarona @ Lum Berry
Trait: Flame Body
EVs: 252 Spd / 252 SAtk / 4 HP
Modest Nature
- Hidden Power [Water]
- Hurricane
- Bug Buzz
- Quiver Dance
Volcarona is another typical Pokemon to have on a rain team, but definitely worth that extra spot. Flame body will intimidate most people from using physical attacks as it will burn them. Hidden power will cover weaknesses such as rock and ground. Quiver dance will make Volcarona a scary opponent, but you must be careful as it is left vulnerable. Bug buzz and hurricane are incredible after pulling off a quiver dance.

Let me know what you think, and I'll consider any changes you suggest!! :toast:

EDIT: I read that you must put 3 lines for each Pokemon, but I made sure that there were 3 lines in the description for each Pokemon on the editor. At least the moves, nature, items, EVs, traits, and names were given!!

Hey, this looks like a pretty nice rain team. Just a suggestion for any future RMTs you decide to post; you might want to consider adding images or gifs of your Pokemon to your post to make it a bit more visually appealing. This useful site has the in battle animation for every Pokemon. Anyways, onto the rate.

Firstly, I see that you're running Hydro Pump on a defensive Politoed. While it still hits hard coupled with the rain boost and STAB, I think Scald would be better suited here. If you decide to replace Hydro Pump with Scald, I suggest you also replace Toxic with Perish Song, or use that slot for Hydro Pump.

Moving onto the next member of your team, Jirachi doesn't need a King's Rock to wreak the havoc that it does with its Serene Grace. If you want to keep it offensive, I suggest you give it a Choice Scarf and replace Psychic with U - Turn. This could allow you to use Jirachi as a scout and keep some offensive momentum, or go all out on the Iron Head/Thunder spam while outspeeding some more Pokemon that might KO you with an Earthquake or Fire Blast otherwise. I also suggest changing Body Slam to Trick so that you can cripple any pesky walls that you may run into.

Toxicroak is a good Pokemon on rain teams, but I see that you have a Volcarona waiting in the wings. So will your opponents if they get a team preview, and since you have no spinners the first thing that will come to their mind is "Set up Stealth Rocks". I suggest an offensive Starmie (see TL;DR section for set) to take care of those pesky Rocks and other yucky hazards. This Starmie does great on rain teams and can keep up offensive pressure with great speed and a fearsome movepool.

If you've taken my advice on Politoed, then you should take my advice on Vaporeon as well. This Pokemon's shine and shimmer are in its ability to sponge hits, not take on Dragon types. I suggest you replace Ice Beam with Protect. You can't always rely on on Vaporeon's bulk to take hits and live long enough to receive a Wish. Even Vaporeon won't take kindly to opposing Thunders, or even Volt Switches from Rotom - W. Protect can also be useful for scouting.

Your Dragonite would appreciate a Leftovers more than a Life Orb, seeing as it is a more defensive/tanky set.

Volcarona can do well on rain teams if any opposing Pokemon are taken care of. These include any fast Pokemon that can spam hard hitting Water or Rock type moves, such as Landorus - T and Keldeo - R. Seeing as your team can cover them pretty well, I suggest that all you do for Volcarona is give it a Lum Berry instead of Leftovers. Pokemon like Quiver Dancing Volcarona are just begging for a Thunder Wave to the face, which would instantly cripple your shot at a sweep. Lum Berry can remedy that nicely, allowing you a safe set-up.

Well, that's it for my post. By the way, this is my first rate so go easy on me. I'm sorry if it seems like a lot, but I like to ramble. Anyhow, good luck with your rain team.

Hello there, and thank you for the reply!

After taking your rate into consideration, every suggestion you've made seems like it would be a great improvement to my team. For your first rate, I'll say it's nicely put! I've decided that I would take your suggestions and apply them to my team (they're all very reasonable and well detailed). Thanks again!

If anyone else would like to suggest anything, please let me know!!
