[Set]
name: LeadPluff
move 1: Sleep Powder
move 2: U-turn
move 3: Encore
move 4: Stun Spore / Protect
item: Focus Sash / Choice Scarf
ability: Chlorophyll
nature: Jolly
evs: 252 HP / 4 Atk / 252 Spe

Why this set deserves to be onsite:
- Reliably sleeps most leads without the need to be locked into one move unlike Venusaur or Butterfree
- With Choice Scarf, is able to sleep every lead in UU
- Evs designed for surviving random resisted attacks after Stealth Rock like Choice Band Azumarill's Waterfall and Life Orb Milotic's Surf.
- Fast U-turn and Encore is always useful
- Has the ability to run a double powder set as well
- Not entirely deadweight out of the lead position, (unless Jumpluff is your last Pokemon)

Cons:
- Sleep Powder is only 75% accurate, unlike Butterfree's 97% accurate Sleep Powder
- Not as powerful as Venusaur later in the match
- Cannot sleep Hariyama if it is using Flame or Toxic Orb, however it will sleep the Life Orb variant.
- Heavily exposed to Taunt and Pursuit
- Extremely frail

Teammates and Counters:
- Ambipom, Electrode and Alakazam can all Taunt Jumpluff before it uses Sleep Powder if Jumpluff lacks a Choice Scarf, however Alakazam will eat a U-turn for some hefty damage
- Ambipom actually makes a good partner to Jumpluff as he can pick off Alakazam and loves to keep the U-turn cycle spinning
- Rhyperior and Aggron make good partners to Jumpluff as they have near perfect synergy (minus the Ice weakness when speaking of Rhyperior) and can come in on most of Jumpluff's counters
- Rain Dance stoppers like Gardevoir and Golduck also make a good partner to Jumpluff as Electrode will probably get the upper hand on Jumpluff most of the time.
- Things that enjoy entry hazards not on Jumpluff's side of the field like Scyther and Moltres also make good partners.

So I go and look at the Jumpluff analysis because I'm quite sure I have deja vu when I see this set, but surprisingly, it isn't there. I have to say though, this set is quite similar to the SubSeeder set, so I'm not sure if it warrants its own set. Anyway, I really think Jumpluff needs as much bulk as possible, seeing as it won't do much damage (Except to Alakazam) anyway. I'd simply just go with 252 HP/4 Def/252 Spe with a Jolly nature.

Attack's kind of pointless when you think about how little damage U-Turn is doing. Just max HP and be done with it is what I'd do.

I don't quite understand the use of Protect. The only leads who commonly carry Fake Out are Ambipom (to whom you lose if it carries Taunt anyways) and Hariyama (which's Fake Out you can Encore to turn it into a fodder and against whom you just can't risk giving a free turn, as it might activate orb, make itself immune to sleep and use an attack like Ice Punch that Jumpluff can't Encore unless it's willing to die/get down to the Sash). Finally, Scarved Protect makes no sense whatsoever.

Also, like shrang, I'm not sure if it deserves a set, as with the obvious changes it would be just a SubSeed Jumpluff without the subbing part, and if you decide to go for Double Powder Butterfree does that better on the long run, especially with a Scarf.

Protect is for Ambipom and Hariyama if you're not using Choice Scarf for the simple reason of keeping your Focus Sash. Against Ambipom the only thing Jumpluff is going to be able to do is U-turn, since it will probably Taunt you anyway. However if Ambipom does decide to attack with Return or U-turn, if you Protect against the Fake Out, Jumpluff will still be alive, as compared to dead, allowing you to use it's Sleep Powder, Encore, or just use it as death fodder later. Against Hariyama, Jumpluff isn't going to be doing anything anyway, it's a dead-stop loss for Jumpluff.

@Bluewind - And yes Choice Protect doesn't make sense, I didn't realize I had to add another slash there behind it.

As for the EVs, I do like the extra power against Alakazam, however the HP EVs do allow Jumpluff to at least survive things like Azumarill's Choice Band Waterfall after Stealth Rock and the like better. I'll change that.

And this really shouldn't be compared to the SubSeed set anyway as the goal is not the same. The goal of the SubSeed is to stall and cause general annoyance, while this is a Lead analysis and the goal is to Sleep most leads without having to rely on Choice Scarf.

I personally don't like using the Choice Scarf myself, however it really does guarantee a sleep on any lead in UU, (if it hits or bar Hariyama if it's using Flame or Toxic Orb).

I don't think an entire moveslot is worth keeping your Sash when you could run both Encore and Stun Spore and fuck more shit up. If you really need to keep your Sash, you just switch out of Ambipom anyway (since you can't do anything why stay in and U-turn) and you get a free Encore on Hariyama so I'd say that's a win.

^True, I suppose I even have Rhyperior mentioned as a teammate. I'll take Protect off. It is a nice tool for scouting later in the game, so I might leave it in AC or something.

why do you have two encore / stun spores? If you pick one then the other is going to be a filler, I'd mostly suggest having the third move be Encore then the fourth option be Stun Spore / Protect. Though you could make Stun Spore the third option while Encore / Protect are the fourth.

EDIT: since I think I worded this poorly

name: LeadPluff
move 1: Sleep Powder
move 2: U-turn
move 3: Encore
move 4: Stun Spore / Protect

OR

name: LeadPluff
move 1: Sleep Powder
move 2: U-turn
move 3: Stun Spore
move 4: Encore / Protect

I used a jumpluff lead on this team before and I can say that it is a quite effective one.
It's almost the same as yours except I used Leech Seed in the last slot.

i agree with bluewind completely. if you're using the set the way it is currently it is ok but for the large part outclassed by the subseed set - it's just a minor and obvious modification if you want to use it on the lead set, and can easily be mentioned in a few sentences in set comments. if you are scarfing it then butterfree is better because it almost never misses.

That's fine by me, I would just like it to be mentioned is all. If it you feel it doesn't deserve its own set, I'm not going to lose any sleep.

So, do I need to submit the set to whomever has the analysis of Jumpluff and make sure they mention it in the AC section, or is somebody already on top of that?

This is all fine and dandy but just so you guys know this set IS on site. I don't really think this thread needs to exist in light of the following.

Double Powder said:
Leftovers is the preferred item for the free recovery it provides, but if you want to use this as a lead, then Focus Sash is a good alternative to guarantee surviving an attack from most (non-Fake Out) leads. Therefore, Protect may be a good option on this set when using Focus Sash, but generally it's better to stick to Encore and U-turn in the other slots.

whistledit: lol ok then locking this thread. pm me if you disagree...
