I have been playing with this team for right around a week now and have had some moderate success with it. I seem to be having a few problems but we'll get to that later, for now lets just jump into the team.
Thought Process
Whimsicott and Jellicent
I had been hearing a lot about the defensive power of both of these guys so I decided to use them as the core of a new team. They both work well at spreading status around and slowly whittling away at the opponent.
Haxorus
Haxorus was too good to pass up. His base Attack stat is ludicrously high and the swithces he forces give him an opportunity to swords dance to make him even more ridiculous.
Starmie
The team needed a reliable special sweeper. Starmie fills this role perfectly. He rarely gets outsped and Boltbeam has been a great combo since gen 1.
Weavile
Weavile hits hard and fast. He is built to be a revenge killer and he excels at it. He puts serious dents in, or OHKOs, most dragon types. Pursuit also catches many frailer psychic types on the switch.
Aggron
Aggron is my favorite pokemon. I had wanted to succesfully work him into an OU team for a while now, and I think by focusing more on offense I may have finally done it.
Breakdown
Aggron (M) @ Expert Belt
Trait: Sturdy
EVs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Def
Adamant Nature (+Atk, -SAtk)
- Aqua Tail
- Fire Punch
- Stealth Rock
- Rock Slide
Aggron is by far my favorite pokemon, but to be completely honest this set was supposed to be a gimmick. A friend of mine mentioned "offensive Aggron" as a joke and I wanted to see if I could make it work. But, go figure, the results have been pretty good. The surprise factor is what makes this set work. Everyone that sees it automatically assumes that is going to be running a wall set.
I generally lead with him and set up stealth rock. If he gets taunted then he has several offensive options to choose from. He is also an amazing counter the scizor that every one and their mother seems to use. he can switch in, take the hit and OHKO scizor with the unexpected fire punch.
I know offensive Aggron isn't exactly the most common thing to see in OU but I like him and he's gotten great results so far.
Weavile (M) @ Life Orb
Trait: Pressure
EVs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spd
Jolly Nature (+Spd, -SAtk)
- Ice Punch
- Pursuit
- Brick Break
- Night Slash
Weavile is a pokemon that I feel could be easily replaced on this team. I use him mainly as a revenge killer (especially on flying/dragon types) and its always nice to catch Blissey on a switch with STAB Pursuit. Life Orb works great for Weavile. He's not bulky enough to withstand more than a couple of hit anyway so the lost HP isn't missed too much.
Haxorus (M) @ Chesto Berry
Trait: Mold Breaker
EVs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spd
Jolly Nature (+Spd, -SAtk)
- Dragon Claw
- Earthquake
- Swords Dance
- Rest
Haxorus is an offensive monster. His huge base attack and great typing are a great addition to the team. Dragon claw and earthquake are powerful moves that, combined, will hit almost anything for at least neutral damage.
The Chesto/Rest combo seems to be an unorthodox combination for Haxorus. I've found that it makes him a powerful mid to late game sweeper. He forces a lot of switches, so when he come in on something that is going to switch he can either rest to heal (and immediately wake up) or swords dance to boost his already crazy attack stat.
Whimsicott (M) @ Wide Lens
Trait: Prankster
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SDef
Impish Nature (+Def, -SAtk)
- Substitute
- Encore
- Leech Seed
- Stun Spore
Whimsicott is awesome. There is nothing better than watching your opponent slowly get drained to death after you locked them into a stat boosting move with priority encore. The wide lens is there to help ensure that Stun Spore lands on target more often.
Starmie @ Life Orb
Trait: Illuminate
EVs: 252 SAtk / 4 SDef / 252 Spd
Timid Nature (+Spd, -Atk)
- Surf
- Ice Beam
- Thunderbolt
- Recover
Starmie is...well...Starmie. Things haven't changed much since the beginning for this guy. His fourth move slot is really causing me a headache though. I like the extra stability that recover provides, but I also wouldn't mind rapid spin since the rest of the team is lacking it. Or maybe psychic to help cover the fighting types that seem to be giving me a problem. Any input would be appreciated.
Jellicent (M) @ Leftovers
Trait: Cursed Body
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Def / 252 SDef
Calm Nature (+SDef, -Atk)
- Will-O-Wisp
- Recover
- Substitute
- Shadow Ball
I love this guy. He's an amazing special wall and WoW cripples the physical sweepers that try to switch in on him. Strong electric types are about the only thing that really threaten him.
Cons
Fighting types seem to be problem for this team. Conkelldur is the most notable because of his STAB mach punch. Ground/Water types are also threatening since the team is lacking any grass moves. Thanks in advance for the advice and help.
