Gen 1 Kabutops (UU) [QC 2/2] [GP 1/1]

[OVERVIEW]

Kabutops is a powerful Swords Dance user that 2HKOes some of the tier's main defensive Pokemon, like Hypno, Vaporeon, and Tentacruel, with +2 Hyper Beam. It also has access to Slash, which gives it a powerful unboosted attack. Additionally, Kabutops resists Normal- and Ice-type attacks, thereby allowing it to be used in conjunction with Haunter to use against Wrap users like Dragonite. It can also switch into Hyper Beam for a free setup opportunity.

However, even with a fearsome Hyper Beam, Kabutops is not very good in the UU metagame due to the existence of Omastar, which is better defensively, in addition to it being weak to Thunderbolt from Gyarados, Persian, Haunter, and Electabuzz, as well as a weakness to Earthquake and Grass-type attacks. Not to mention, it is outsped by half the metagame. Finally, it has a mediocre Special stat, thus weakening special attacks, and has no Rock-type STAB moves. Due to these flaws, you likely will not be seeing Kabutops running around in the UU metagame.

[SET]
name: Mixed Sweeper
move 1: Hyper Beam / Body Slam
move 2: Slash / Body Slam
move 3: Blizzard
move 4: Swords Dance / Rest

[SET COMMENTS]

If you decide to run Swords Dance, you should look for an opening to set up and try to sweep or wallbreak. While Hyper Beam does more damage, Body Slam mitigates the fear of a recharge turn, and it can paralyze. Slash can work when Kabutops has no boost, but Body Slam can also work with Hyper Beam, as Slash is unaffected by Swords Dance, but it can work well regardless of if Kabutops is unboosted or not running Swords Dance. On the other hand, while Body Slam does less damage, the chance to paralyze can do much more. Blizzard is used to 2HKO Dragonite, Tangela, and Dodrio.

Alternatively, Kabutops can go for a hit-and-run playstyle with a Rest set, taking advantage of its resistances to Normal- and Ice-type moves. When using Rest, Slash is Kabutops's go-to attacking option, hitting most Pokemon neutrally while doing good damage. You could feasibly use Kabutops to resist Wrap and possibly either use Haunter in the same team to PP stall the Wrap user or Body Slam, Hyper Beam and Blizzard to break out. It is recommended to use Wrap to burn off sleep turns, but this can also be done with other Normal-type moves, especially Hyper Beam, or Blizzard.

Submission is a possible option that works with Swords Dance to hit Kangaskhan, Persian, and Omastar. Toxic is another option to prevent Dragonite from going for a Wrap sweep; however, it's not very important, as Kabutops's Rock typing helps Kabutops PP stall Dragonite and instead use Blizzard while waiting for Dragonite to miss Wrap. Mega Kick can be used as a weaker version of Hyper Beam that has no recharge. However, due to the fact that it is weaker than Hyper Beam, it can end up being the difference between a sweep or not. Not to mention it can't OHKO Electabuzz or Raichu after a Swords Dance, whereas Hyper Beam can.

Banned deucer.
Overview
Kabutops is a powerful Swords Dance + Hyper Beam user that 2HKOs Hypno, and Vaporeon with a Swords Dance-boosted Hyper Beam plus can OHKO Tentacruel if you get a superb damage roll.
Remove the comma. Maybe reword the latter part to "Swords Dance-boosted Hyper Beam. Plus, it can OHKO Tentacruel if you get a superb damage roll". You should cite the % chance of getting the OHKO, though.

You should also mention that Kabutops can switch in on Hyper Beam to force a recharge and get a free SD. Its access to Slash gives it immediate power too, I guess.

However, even with a fearsome Hyper Beam, it is not very good in the metagame due to several reasons.
Add the S that I put there.

One of the biggest reasons is the existence of Omastar, which outclasses Kabutops at what it does due to Omastar having better defensive utility and STAB moves, and it is weak to Electric-type attacks from Gyarados, Persian, Haunter and Electabuzz plus neutral attacks can do a lot of damage.
Run-on sentence. Separate where I've highlighted. Something like "Furthermore, it is weak to..." can work.

Not to mention that, it is outsped by Tentacruel, it has a mediocre Special stat that makes a STAB Surf pitifully weak and has no Rock-type moves thereby it has no Physical STAB move.
This can be separated into individual sections, they all cause different problems. There's also a "that" which doesn't contribute to the sentence.

Set Details
Even if you do not have a Swords Dance ready, Slash can do the job in the meantime as it can 3HKO Hypno, Vaporeon and Tentacruel.
An important phrase you need here is "immediate power". Slash is effectively a 140 BP move that can't crit. Either add it here or add it to the Overview.

Swords Dance and Hyper Beam are the bread and butter of the set;
Redundant in its current state.

if you manage to read a switch in or you switch in on a Rest, you use Swords Dance.
You can also use SD to reapply paralysis Speed drops, giving it value even when paralyzed.

Surf, although weak generally, can be used to OHKO or 2HKO against Pokemon weak to Water-type moves like Golem or Dugtrio respectively
"Surf, though weak, allows Kabutops to OHKO and 2HKO Golem and Dugtrio, respectively.". Still iffy wording, so play around and see how you can word it.

Blizzard could be ran to counter Dragonite. Toxic is also another option but for Agility/Wrap Dragonite specifically.
"Blizzard can be used to OHKO Dragonite. Alternatively, Toxic is a viable choice to prevent it from going for a Wrap sweep."
Add Body Slam, as it allows Kabutops to deny switch-ins and paralyze foes. However, it becomes more reliant on Swords Dance.
Mega Drain is viable for 4HKOing Omastar, dealing much more damage than Surf. It falls short of 2HKOing Golem, though.

Overview
  • It should be a Swords Dancer boosting Hyper Beam user
  • What do you mean that it 2HKOs Hypno and Vap and a chance to OHKO Tent? With H Beam after a single SD? Why are these Pokemon the ones that are important? I think it needs some clarity.
  • Say that it can use Slash for a powerful unboosted attacked, instead of it granting immediate power.
  • Again, I'm not sure why we care about Slash 3HKOing those mons
  • Say that it can be used with Haunter for anti-wrap and don't talk about AgiliWrap Nite specifically.
  • Get rid of the mention of other Rocks. Oma + Tops is bad and Golem isn't used enough nor do I think it'd be good with Tops (that's just a guess though)
  • Say that it can switch-in on Hyper Beam in a different sentence.
  • Don't say that Omastar does what Tops does but better. They have different goals. Say that Omastar is a better defensively specifically.
  • Put the electric-type weakness in a different sentence, and don't list of which pokemon use electric-type attacks. Just say thunderbolt.
  • Take out the part about neutral attacks and replace it with a weakness to Earthquake and Grass-type attacks
  • Replace being outsped by Tent by being outsped by half the metagame
  • Surf sucks and is oo at best. Don't even mention it.
  • Don't say it has no rock moves thereby it has no stab moves. Just say it doesn't have any Rock-type STAB attacks.
  • Tops is never used so take out the often.
Set
  • Hyper Beam/Body Slam
    Slash/Body Slam
    Blizzard
    Swords Dance/Rest
  • In a full analysis there would be two sets. SD and Slash Rest, but because it's a mini we'll put it into one.
Set Descritption
  • If you're running Swords Dance then the idea of the set is to find an opportunity to set-up and attempt to sweep or wall-break from there.
  • Hyper Beam does the most damage, but Body Slam doesn't have to worry about recharge and can paralyze
  • Slash can work when Tops is not boosted, but B Slam can also work with Hyper Beam. It does less damage, but it can paralyze and that can mean a lot more
  • Blizzard is there to hit Nite, Tang and Dodrio (There's no point in using surf. Except for Golem and Omastar, everything gets hit harder by its other moves)
  • Alternatively, Tops can run a Rest set and play a hit and run game, using it's Normal-type and Ice-type resistance to its advantage.
  • If going with Rest, Body Slam should be used for its Paralysis chance.
  • With rest, Slash becomes the main attacking option, hitting most things neutrally and doing decent damage
  • You don't need to mention Blizzard twice since it does the same thing whether you have SD or Rest
  • Say something about using wrap, and to a lesser extent Body slam, hyper beam and blizzard to wake-up
Other Options (It's not a separate section but I'll separate it for convenience's sake.)
  • Obviously remove Blizz and B Slam since they're in the main set now
  • Replace Mega Drain with submission, which can work with swords dance to hit Kang, Persian and Oma.
  • Mega Kick can be used as a weaker version of H Beam that you don't need to worry about recharging. It's weaker though which could mean the difference between a sweep or not and it can't OHKO Buzz or Raichu after a SD, while H Beam can

Kabutops is a powerful Swords Dancer Dance user that 2HKOs 2HKOes some of the tier's main defensive Pokemon, like Hypno, Vaporeon, (AC) and Tentacruel, with a +2 Hyper Beam. [SET COMMENTS]

If you decide to run Swords Dance, you should look for an opening to set up (RH) and try to sweep or wallbreak. While Hyper Beam does more damage, Body Slam allows one to not worry about the recharge plus mitigates the fear of a recharge turn, and it can paralyze. Slash can work when Kabutops has no boost, (AC) but Body Slam can also work with Hyper Beam, (period -> comma) as Slash is unaffected by Swords Dance, (AC) but it can work well regardless of if Kabutops is unboosted or not running Swords Dance. Alternatively, Kabutops can go for a hit-and-run (AH) playstyle with a Rest set, taking advantage of its resistances to Normal-types and Ice-types Normal- and Ice-type moves. When using Rest, Slash is your Kabutops's go-to attacking option, hitting most things Pokemon neutrally while doing good damage. You could feasibly use Kabutops to resist Wrap and possibly either use Haunter in the same team to PP Stall stall the Wrap user or use Body Slam, Hyper Beam and/or Blizzard to wake-up break out. (this sentence is extremely confusing to me because you didn't mention sleep once in it but are saying to use these methods to wake up; i assume you meant this?) It is recommended to use Wrap to burn off sleep turns, but this can also be done with other Normal-type moves, especially Hyper Beam, or Blizzard.

[OTHER OPTIONS]

Submission is a possible option that works with Swords Dance to hit Kangaskhan, Persian, (AC) and Omastar. Toxic is another option to prevent the dragon Dragonite from going for a Wrap sweep; (ASC) however, however it's not very important, (AC) as its Rock-typing Kabutops's Rock typing helps it Kabutops PP Stall stall Dragonite and instead use Blizzard, (RC) while waiting for Dragonite to miss a wrap Wrap. Mega Kick can be used as a weaker version of Hyper Beam that has no recharge. However, due to the fact that it is weaker than Hyper Beam, it could can end up being the differencce difference between a sweep or not. Not to mention, (RC) it can't OHKO Electabuzz or Raichu after a Swords Dance, whereas Hyper Beam can.
