Kanto Memories

Seeing that UU was becoming increasingly popular (and I couldn't ladder past 39 in LC until the bonus pool gets a bit bigger for me), I decided to dabble in a little bit of UU battling. Turns out, it's not NEARLY as bad as people make it out to be - and it's so much better than OU or Ubers. Plus, making teams was so much easier with Pokemon that I really like to use and had good skills, so I figured it'd be an okay deal to try this out. So, without adiu, here's my UU RMT, Kanto Memories!

The inspiration behind this isn't to bring back the wonders from Gen 1 (God knows Gen 5 fucked over Gyarados and Hyper Beam). The inspiration is Blastoise - he was my first starter when I had Pokemon Blue, and the first Pokemon I ever raised to level 100 without cheats, so I decided I would build a team around him. He's pretty useful anyway, what with being a spinner and such. I think he's really underrated anyway, so he deserves a bit of time in the lime light.

So, obviously, when making a team centered around my favorite Pokemon, I had to start with my favorite Pokemon. Blastoise was good utility with Rapid Spin, so he fit well anyways.

9.png

I took in mind Blastoise's weaknesses - Electric- and Grass-types. So, to cover the Electric-type weakness, I brought in Krookodile. He was extremely fast, and if he got off a few Moxie boosts, he could sweep anything (he actually did at one point, but that's a different story).

9.png
553.png
59.png

Now there was another thing I had to take into account - pesky Grass-types, which included Roserade. To counter this, I brought in Arcanine. His speed was beyond acceptable, and his movepool covered tons of other things that could have been a problem.

Despite the obvious weakness to water and grass, Kingdra was the good addition due to it's superior typing, which only opened up one weakness. With this typing, she makes an excellent switch in to tons of common threats, and then forcing them to switch out due to lack of a super-effective move.

Victini was picked to help deal with fighting types. Despite increasing the obvious weakness to water that was increased here, beating Fighting-types was increasingly helpful, and it aided type coverage.

I finished off my team with an old favorite - Snorlax. He's so bulky that most attacks just bounce right off him without a worry. Plus, with an offensive set, he really pulls his weight (no pun intended!)

I tested my team on a bit, and the expected happened - I was obliterated by Water-types. Seeing how Fighting-types couldn't dent most of my team anyway, I swapped Victini for Electivire, which greatly reduced my weakness to water.

Now came another realization I totally skipped over - Ground-types obliterated my team. I swapped Krookodile for Mismagius, which eliminated that nagging water weakness, and then swapped Arcanine for Bronzong. This team brought me many more wins than the previous versions.

AS25a.png
I threw my team into Marriland's Team Builder and was shocked - I had created a team with minimal type disadvantages! The types/abilities all came together perfectly and reduced the amounts of weaknesses to 7, which was a number I could work with. And thus, the team was ready.

Boy Toi (Blastoise) @ Life Orb
Trait: Torrent
EVs: 4 HP / 252 SAtk / 252 Spd
Timid Nature
- Rapid Spin
- Hydro Pump
- Ice Beam
- Hidden Power [Electric]

The star himself! Now, his set and EV spread might look just a bit on the weird side. Why did I go with this set over the utility set? Because, more than often, I found myself walled against many different types that I couldn't do any damage to when using that set, and I was also slower than many other leads (Bronzongs almost outsped me at some turns). I decided to switch Blastoise to an attack set with Rapid Spin, which increased his usefullness 10 folds, while keeping him as the spinner. The EV spread is to help outspeed most Pokemon that come in for what they think will be a quick sweep, but instead are taken out before their proper setup. Hydro Pump is amazing STAB, but I really hate the accuracy on it. Ice Beam is good for Grass-type switch-ins, and HP Electric helps take down other bulky Water-types that think they can wall me. Rapid Spin is there for the most obvious reasons.

What would I change?

I might switch Hydro Pump to Surf. Both are STAB, but Surf's accuracy is appealing, despite the weakened power.

Melissa (Mismagius) @ Leftovers
Trait: Levitate
EVs: 252 Spd / 252 SAtk / 4 HP
Timid Nature
- Thunderbolt
- Energy Ball
- Psychic
- Shadow Ball

Boy, has Melissa changed since I last saw her! Her utility set had literally NOTHING to offer me at all (status moves never seem to work for me), so this offensive set does the job just right. She can now do a much better job than last time. Shadow Ball is there for STAB. The other moves offer some of the best coverage of the metagame, especially since there's a large amount of starter-type-cores popping up.

What would I change?

I might swap Energy Ball for something else since Thunderbolt handles Water-types nicely.

Morfh (Bronzong) @ Leftovers
Trait: Heatproof
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SDef
Relaxed Nature
IVs: 2 Spd
- Zen Headbutt
- Gyro Ball
- Rock Slide
- Earthquake

I know exactly what crossed your mind when you saw Bronzong's ability: "Why the hell is he running Heatproof over Levitate?" Well I will tell you why! Standard Bronzong run Levitate. All of them do. So most opponents will believe that mine is using Levitate, when in actuality, I'm not. Heatproof makes it possible for Bronzong to take any Fire-type attack, even under the sun. And then, by the time the player realizes that his precious, precious Fire-type is in danger, BAM! EQ to the face, and it's gone! The element of surprise I get with this guy is a huge help in any battle, and it makes him so much more threatening.

Stealth Rock was recently swapped out in favor of Zen Headbutt. Whenever I set it up, Fire-types would stay in hiding and Heatproof would go to waste. Gyro Ball is there for STAB, and with 2 Spd IVs/EVs, it hits hard. Speaking of that, the 2 Spd IVs are there to outspeed other Bronzong, should I be up against them without a proper switch. Rock Slide is for Flying-type switch ins, which makes it harder to get walled, and EQ for, as mentioned above, Fire-types, and of course Electric-types too.

What would I change?

I've been debating about whether or not to move some EVs off Def and put it on Atk, to make his attacks hit harder. However, since most Ground-type attacks are physical, losing Def EVs could make it hard for Bronzong to function correctly.

Christy (Kingdra) @ Life Orb
Trait: Sniper
EVs: 88 HP / 252 SAtk / 4 SDef / 164 Spd
Modest Nature
- Ice Beam
- Surf
- Dragon Pulse
- Hidden Power [Fighting]

Ah, good old Christy. For those of you who saw my LC RMT, Christy is also the name of my Mienfoo. However, Kingdra is so much different. She is much more offensive. Her moveset gives a very extensive amount of coverage. Surf is for STAB, and I prefer it over Hydro Pump, since she can't take hits as well as I'd like her to. Ice Beam takes down impending Grass-types. Dragon Pulse for another STAB, and it hits everything but Steel-types for neutral damage. Speaking of Steel-types, HP Fight is there for that exact reason, no longer walling her, which makes her just as useful.

What would I change?

Nothing. Christy is good as she is.

ElectricIC_Big.png

Tat (Electivire) @ Life Orb
Trait: Motor Drive
EVs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spd
Adamant Nature
- Wild Charge
- Fire Punch
- Earthquake
- Ice Punch

Good 'ol Tat. He's such a fighter. Despite his decent SAtk, I optimized Atk. It works pretty well with his moves. Wild Charge for STAB, but the recoil along with the LO damage sucks. Fire Punch, Ice Punch, and EQ give pretty decent coverage. Motor Drive gives it total immunity to Electric-type attacks, which is SO great, because I don't need Electric-types devastating my whole team.

What would I change?

I'd really like to swap Wild Charge for something else, but the only other physical Electric-type attack is Thunderpunch, which just sucks..

NormalIC_Big.png

Chubbs (Snorlax) @ Leftovers
Trait: Immunity
EVs: 80 HP / 252 Atk / 176 SDef
Adamant Nature
- Return
- Earthquake
- Crunch
- Fire Punch

Chubbs  He's my favorite person on the entire team, without a doubt. I run an offensive set > defensive set because he's already bulky enough to take a hit, and Immunity makes this even better since Poison is so common in UU. With an increased offense, he can hit back with good strength, making him incredibly hard to wall. Return for a great STAB and because it deals a lot of damage at Max Happiness. EQ is good for what EQ is good for. Crunch hits Ghost-types like Mismagius, who would otherwise make Fire Punch the only move to hit it. Fire Punch is good for Steel-type walls that would also make it easy to stop Chubbs. He's an evil, destruction machine and I love him.

What would I change?

ABSOLUTELY NOTHING >:(

So, that's my team! Did you enjoy it? Did you hate it? Would you steal it from me in an attempt to gain popularity and money? Maybe not, but a rate would be nice, and a Luvdisc would be even better!

Interesting team Gengan, and your Blastoise's set is indeed very original. However, your team has some things that need to be improved. First off, you have a large weakness to Choice Scarf Heracross and Mienshao, which can easily sweep your team after Mismagius is removed, which isn't usually difficult due to her mediocre bulk. Since you say you aren't happy with Mismagius anyway, I would suggest changing her for Cofagrigus. Cofagrigus is a good check to most Figthing type pokemon in the tier, but it can also act as a sweeper thanks to Nasty Plot, without comprimising much his bulk. Here's the set:

Cofagrigus@Leftovers | Mummy
Quiet Nature | 252 HP / 4 Def / 252 SpA
Nasty Plot / Shadow Ball / Hidden Power Fighting / Trick Room

Despite this change, your team is still very weak to set up sweepers and fast pokemon in general such as Scrafty, Kingdra and Azelf. Since Electivire seems to be doing the less for your team, as it's a very mediocre pokemon in UU, I would like to suggest changing it for Choice Scarf Heracross. Heracross is a very powerful revenge killer that can check Scrafty and other fast threats, while also being able to act as a late game sweepers thanks to Moxie.

Heracross@Choice Scarf | Moxie
Jolly Nature | 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spe
Stone Edge / Close Combat / Megahorn / Earthquake

Finally, I would like to suggest changing Kingdra's set to a Rain Dance one. While Kingdra is a powerful pokemon, it often struggles to sweep due to it's below average speed. I would recommend using a Rain Dance / Hydro Pump / Dragon Pulse / Draco Meteor moveset, with Life Orb as the item. It may seem that Kingdra loses coverage with this change, but this is far from truth, as a Rain boosted Hydro Pump is just as powerful as a x2 Hidden Power Fighting (so you are still able to hit Empoleon hard) and Draco Meteor can power through bulky grass and water pokemon like Roserade or Blastoise.
