Kecleon (QC 2/3) Written

[OVERVIEW]

Kecleon holds it's place in the NU tier being a reliable wallbreaker thanks to it's spectacular coverage add movepool, along with Ability Protean. These allow it to break past many common normal type checks, making Kecleon a great addition to normal spam archetypes. Kecleon also sports the 4th strongest sucker punch in NU, and this powerful priority helps mitigate it's abysmal speed. Don't let these upsides fool you though, as along with them come a handful of tremendous downsides, such as an abysmal speed stat, making it invest heavily in speed simply to outspeed walls, and relying on only partially invested sucker punch to damage anything faster, making it nearly useless against faster teams. Kecleon also has subpar bulk which makes opportunities to switch Kecleon in extremely rare, as even moderately powerful neutral special attacks will leave a dent in kecleon.

Moves
========

Fire blast is Kecleon's strongest coverage move allowing it to beat many defensive pokemon such as Steelix and Vileplume after stealth rock damage, as well as Gourgeist, and 2hko'ing bulky poison types. Sucker Punch is very strong priority which aids Kecleon in deterring faster, frailer pokemon who might attempt at revenge killing Kecleon. Iron Tail is a strong coverage which is able to break past many pokemon who are otherwise able to beat Kecleon 1v1 such as Audino, Rhydon and Cradily. Knock Off is a reliable and spammable STAB, which provides Kecleon the excellent utility of removing items such as eviolite and leftovers. Knock also hits Musharna and Lanturn who might otherwise attempt to pivot in on some of Kecleon's other attacks. Grass Knot allow Kecleon to beat Quagsire and Rhydon, also ensuring that Omastar and Barbarcle are not able to set up on Kecleon. Stealth Rock is a great utility move that Kecleon can easily make use of due to the fact it forces so many switches due to raw power and coverage. Shadow Sneak is priority that can act as a last -ditch spinblocker, although it can't switch into rapid spin.

Set Details
========

116 Speed EVs allow Kecleon to outspeed Gourgeist-XL, as to not get Wil-O-Wisped although it is able to run 164 speed for 0 Speed Weezing, allowing Kecleon to deal heavy damage with Knock off before being burnt. 200 Special Attack investment with a life orb allows Kecleon to OHKO common switch ins such as Gourgeist, and Vileplume and Steelix with Stealth Rock up. Fire Blast is also able to significantly weaken bulky poison types such as Weezing and Garbodor. The remaining 192 EVs are dumped into attack, which power up the physical moves immensely, allowing for a 75% to ohko Swellow after Stealth Rock damage with as well as having a good chance to 2hko Mega Audino after Stealth Rock damage

Usage Tips
========

Kecleon has decent power in it's moves, and uses this power to break down defensive cores. When facing offensive teams, Kecleon should be used more aggressively, predicting threats like hariyama and using the appropriate coverage move. Although due to the low speed, Kecleon will mostly be clicking Sucker Punch to dole out damage to these teams. When facing balanced, slower teams, Kecleon needn't predict such threats, as these balance teams tend to carry slower pokemon such as Mega-Audino, Gourgeist and Vileplume all of which are outsped and dealt with by Kecleon. Kecleon should abuse Protean's ability to effectively create mindgames, such as clicking dark type attacks on psychic type pokemon in order to evade their STABs, and also clicking Fire Blast on Weezing to avoid being burnt by Will-o-Wisp. Knock Off is a staple move that is useful for dealing great damage as well as removing items such as eviolite and leftovers. Kecleon's physical frailty means that it should only be switched in on weaker special attacks, or pivoted in via a slow volt/turn or on a double down. Kecleon's reliance on priority to hit anything faster means fast status users such as rotom and mismagius are able to avoid sucker punch and cripple kecleon with will o wisp.

Team Options
========

Pokemon that appreciate defensive staples such as Audino and Steelix being severely weakened by Kecleon's various coverage options. Pokemon like this can include Tauros, Archeops, Kangaskhan and Swellow. Pokemon with speed control option are also viable partners as they are able to mitigate Kecleon's horrendous speed stat, allowing Kecleon to fair much better against offensive teams, albeit only for a few turns. Slow baton pass and voltturn users are also great options to get Kecleon into battle as they can bring Kecleon in after the opponent attacks so that Kecleon does not take damage. Hazard-Stacking cores such as Garbodor+Steelix make excellent partners because of the extra damage accumulated, helping assure kos on certain targets such as vileplume and steelix. Omastar also makes a great partner by having access to three entry hazards, as well as checking common threats to kecleon such as archeops, kangaskhan, physical charizard and tauros. Mesprit and Audino are able to slow down threats significantly with Thunder Wave, and the former is able to support Kecleon with Healing Wish, should Kecleon acquire too much life orb recoil, or stealth rock to nab kos on vileplume steelix and swellow after rocks damage.

[STRATEGY COMMENTS]
Other Options
=============

An assault vest Power-up-punch Kecleon set with Knock Off, Sucker Punch and Drain Punch is able to turn Kecleon into a bulky sweeper; this set also provides a good pivot into the likes of magmortar and charizard. A Facade set is able to abuse burn and thunder wave, which are commonly applied to Kecleon in order to give it a base 140 power STAB attack; able to dent many pokemon. A lum full-physical set is able to take advantage of many many lead sleeper pokemon or will-o-wisp pokemon such as Jynx and gourgeist respectively.

Checks and Counters
===================

**Faster Physical Attackers**: Pokemon that can take a hit and kill, or can out-prioritize Kecleon and kill it, these include Kangaskhan and Skuntank due to their good natural bulk and Sucker Punch resistance respectively

**Mixed Defensive Pokemon**: Pokemon such as Hariyama, Musharna, Mantine and Pelipper, are all able to pivot in on Kecleon and force it to take life orb rounds, ohko it, or heal up and then kill kecleon due to good natural bulk. Musharna is able to abuse Knock Off-less Kecleon to freely set up calm minds, and shrug off the damage with Moonlight, Barrier variants are also able to beat Kecleon 1v1. Mantine and Pelipper are able to come in on anything but knock off, and can scare out kecleon with the prospect of scald burns, halving it's attack, and wearing it down extremely quickly

**Bulky Revenge Killers**: Pokemon such as Tauros and Kangaskhan are easily able to shrug off Kecleon's priority and easily KO back without much worry

**Faster Priority**: Pokemon with faster priority such as Kangaskhan's fake out+Sucker Punch or Hitmonchan's Mach punch can revenge kill Kecleon as they outpace Kecleon, thus going before it with their priority attacks

You forgot to talk about Knock Off, which beats down Musharna, is Kecleon's best attack against Lanturn switch-ins, and in general just a spammable attack with decent disruption potential.

I know this is nitpicking, but Sucker Punch should probably be 2nd slot due to how important it is for Kecleon, especially in comparison to Iron Tail.

Will list more later once this gets out of WIP.

I understand I may be missing something, but I feel I've done everything I can atm, and this has been in WIP for a really long time, so I'd like to get it moving. Have fun QC

[OVERVIEW]
  • Diverse movepool allows it to break many bulky cores with efficiency
  • Lackluster physical bulk makes free switch opportunities difficult
  • Slow, so it relies in priority to hurt anything faster
  • Powerful Wallbreaker
  • Strong Priority
You need to list Protean here as a huge factor to its power, granting STAB to all of its moves to make them deceptively strong.

Edit: lolbro you still didn't implement this btw

[SET COMMENTS]
Moves
========
  • Knock Off is reliable, spammable stab, providing good utility with removal of items. It also hits the likes of Musharna and Lanturn, who will commonly try to pivot in.
  • Sucker Punch is a very strong priority attack, which can dent faster, frailer pokemon such as Sceptile, Swellow, Archeops and Vivillon
  • Fire Blast is a strong coverage move allowing Kecleon to beat Steelix and bulky grasses such as Gourgeist, who commonly carries Colbur Berry
  • Iron Tail is essential in breaking past Audino
  • Grass Knot beats Rhydon and Quagsire, also ensuring Barbaracle cannot set-up on you
  • Stealth Rock provides general utility to teams
  • Shadow Sneak gives a more consistent priority, as well as a work-around to Fighting-Type attacks
- You'd want to rearrange the move order to actually match the order you have on the set.
- Mention Vileplume as a Fire Blast target, and can 2HKO Weezing and Garbodor.
- Mention Shadow Sneak's ability to let Kecleon act as a spinblocker.

Set Details
========
  • 116 Speed outruns Gourgeist-XL
  • 200 SpA OHKOs all common switch ins to Kecleon such as Vileplume, Gourgeist and Steelix
  • 192 EVs are put into Atk as they are leftover, and power up the other three moves significantly
You'd want to mention Life Orb alongside the SpA EVs, which is what lets Kecleon achieve those KOes. Include the 2HKO on the faster bulky Poison-types.

Usage Tips
========
  • Powerful wallbreaker, should be used to break defensive cores
  • When facing offensive teams, Kecleon should attempt to predict pokemon such as Steelix by clicking a coverage move like Fire Blast
  • When facing more balanced, slower teams, Kecleon needn't predict, as it is most likely faster than the defensive pokemon
  • Knock off is the most used move, ridding items and dealing solid damage
- Kecleon is not faster than all defensive Pokemon (again, the bulky Poison-types come to mind), so rephrase this.
- Mention Kecleon should fall back on Sucker Punch against faster offensive Pokemon, unless it can survive their initial attack.
- Knock Off being the most used move is misleading considering it is not a guaranteed moveslot on the set; rephrase this.

Checks and Counters
===================

**Revenge Killers**: Pokemon that can come in after a teammate has died that can take a hit and kill, or can out-prioritize Kecleon and kill it

**Musharna***: Musharna is bulky enough to significantly weaken Dark-Type Kecleon with colbur berry, it's solid natural bulk, and signal beam

**Hariyama**: Hariyama is bulky enough to switch into fire blast and knock off, live an iron tail and KO back with Close Combat
- Rephrase Revenge Killers to 'Faster Physical Attackers', then mention specific Pokemon that have an easier time dealing with Kecleon (mainly Fighting-types and physical Dark-types, due to their Sucker Punch resistance).
- Pelipper is another counter I can throw out there.

  • 116 Speed outruns Gourgeist-XL
  • 200 SpA EVs with a Life Orb OHKOs all common switch ins to Kecleon such as Vileplume, Gourgeist and Steelix, as well as Weezing and Garbodor if they run speed
    200+ SpA Life Orb Protean Kecleon Fire Blast vs. 248 HP / 8 SpD Vileplume: 320-377 (90.6 - 106.7%) -- 43.8% chance to OHKO
    200+ SpA Life Orb Protean Kecleon Fire Blast vs. 248 HP / 0 SpD Weezing: 199-234 (59.7 - 70.2%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Black Sludge recovery neither of these are guaranteed OHKOs so reword this oo
  • 192 EVs are put into Atk as they are leftover, and power up the other three moves significantly

Usage Tips
========

  • Powerful wallbreaker, should be used to break defensive cores
  • When facing offensive teams, Kecleon should attempt to predict pokemon such as Steelix by clicking a coverage move like Fire Blast Mention a more offensive mon here, as when you are talking about Offensive teams its weird to bring up a slow mon that you don't even have to predict for as you can just hit lix w/ Fire Blast after it switches in
  • When facing more balanced, slower teams, Kecleon needn't predict, as it is than some defensive staples such as Mega-Audino, Gourgeist and Vileplume
  • Knock off is a useful tool for ridding switchins of items, barring Mega-Audino and dealing good damage
Mention that due to its Physical Frality it shouldn't be switched into attacks, and should be pivoted into from a slow VoltTurn / once something has died

Team Options
========

  • Pokemon that appreciate Audino and Steelix being lured. These include Tauros, Archeops, Kangaskhan and Swellow.
  • Speed control such as Tailwind Scyther and Swellow, Thunder Wave Liepard and others.
  • Slow u-turn and baton pass users such as Musharna Mesprit and Xatu make greats partners for Kecleon why is this (they can bring it in safely)
  • Hazard-Stacking cores such as Garbodor+Steelix make excellent partners because of the extra damage accumulated Mention what this can specifically help Kecleon kill (hint Vileplume)

[STRATEGY COMMENTS]
Other Options
=============

  • Assault Vest with Power-Up-Punch, boosts Kecleon's atk making it a dangerous bulky sweeper
  • Facade can take advantage of statuses, giving Kecleon a base 140 power move
  • Full Special
Mention Lum Berry here as an option to get past sleep leads / wispers

Checks and Counters

**Faster Physical Attackers**: Pokemon that can take a hit and kill, or can out-prioritize Kecleon and kill it, these include Sawk and Skuntank due to their Sucker Punch resistance

**Pelipper**: Pelipper can counter Kecleon, as it takes minimal damage from knock-off, and can roost of damage and stall out Kecleon's Life Orb rounds
I think you can sort of combine these mons into "mixed defensive" mons, as thats what they all are to an extent and it makes the categories shorter
Implement all these changes then tag me so I can give it a QC Check

Moves
========

  • Fire Blast is a strong coverage move allowing Kecleon to beat Steelix and bulky grasses such as Gourgeist, who commonly carries Colbur Berry and Vileplume It still doesn't OHKO vileplume oo, it needs rocks in order to get the guaranteed OHKO so just put plume w/ bulky poisons, as well as 2hkoing the speed invested bulky poisons fire blast 2HKOs max HP varients of weezing / garb anyway so you don't have to say speed invested
  • Sucker Punch is a very strong priority attack, which can dent faster, frailer pokemon such as Sceptile, Swellow, Archeops and Vivillon
  • Iron Tail is essential in breaking past Audino, Rhydon and Cradily
  • Knock Off is reliable, spammable stab, providing good utility with removal of items mention which items it can remove that will be helpful (leftovers / eviolite's mainly). It also hits the likes of Musharna and Lanturn, who will commonly try to pivot in.
  • Grass Knot beats Rhydon and Quagsire, also ensuring Barbaracle cannot set-up on you
  • Stealth Rock provides general utility to teams, which isn't a chore to set up with Kecleon's diverse movepool forcing many switches
  • Shadow Sneak gives a more consistent priority, as well as a work-around to Fighting-Type attacks, can also act as a spinblocker

Set Details
========

  • 116 Speed outruns Gourgeist-XL mention that it can also run more speed if it wishes to outspeed different mons, like 164 for Weezing
  • 200 SpA EVs mention the choice of nature here as well, and why Mild was chosen with a Life Orb OHKOs all common switch ins to Kecleon such as Vileplume, Gourgeist and Steelix with rocks up, as well as significantly weakening Weezing and Garbodor if they run speed
  • 192 EVs are put into Atk as they are leftover, and power up the other three moves significantly

Usage Tips
========

  • Powerful wallbreaker, should be used to break defensive cores mention its better against defensive teams due to its low speed and reliance on sucker punch as its only form of speed control
  • When facing offensive teams, Kecleon should attempt to predict pokemon such as Hariyama and deal loads of damage with iron tail mention that Kecleon's best tool against offensive teams is Sucker Punch, as it doesn't outspeed anything on faster teams and is forced to rely on Sucker
  • When facing more balanced, slower teams, Kecleon needn't predict, as it is than some defensive staples such as Mega-Audino, Gourgeist and Vileplume
  • Knock off is a useful tool for ridding switchins of items, barring Mega-Audino and dealing good damage rephrase this to say that knock off is generally a good move to use in the early stages of the game to rid the foe of their items
  • Due to it's physical frailty, Kecleon should not be directly brought in, but pivoted in with a slow voltturn, or after a kill
Mention that playing around w/ Protean is a very key part when using Kecleon, like using Sucker Punch against Psychic types predicting the Psychic, or switch up to be a Fire Type in order to prevent pokemon Will-o-wisp'ing it and other benefits of changing up typing

Team Options
========

  • Pokemon that appreciate Audino and Steelix being lured. These include Tauros, Archeops, Kangaskhan and Swellow. I wouldn't say it "lures" them in, as this is the standard / main set not some lure set. I would instead rephrase this in order to say "partners that appreciate defensive cores that consist of walls like Audino and Steelix being weakened..." since this isn't a lure set
  • Speed control such as Tailwind Scyther and Swellow, Thunder Wave Liepard and others. mention this is helpful since it reymedy's Kecleon's low speed and lets it use moves other than sucker punch more reliably against offensive teams
  • Slow u-turn and baton pass users such as Musharna Mesprit and Xatu make greats partners for Kecleon as they can bring it in safely
  • Hazard-Stacking cores such as Garbodor+Steelix make excellent partners because of the extra damage accumulated, helping assure kos on certain targest such as vileplume and steelix

[STRATEGY COMMENTS]
Other Options
=============

  • Assault Vest with Power-Up-Punch, boosts Kecleon's atk making it a dangerous bulky sweeper mention that this set is also a much better pivot as it can switch in on stronger special attacks (find out some benchmarks and include them here)
  • Facade can take advantage of statuses, giving Kecleon a base 140 power move
  • Full Special mention what moves this would include (i'm not even sure this is good enough for OO Personally as it misses having priority way to much
  • Lum Full-Physical takes advantage of sleep leads or wispers such as gourgeist and jynx, respectively you mixed up the order (jynx is the sleep lead)

Checks and Counters
===================

**Faster Physical Attackers**: Pokemon that can take a hit and kill, or can out-prioritize Kecleon and kill it, these include Sawk and Skuntank due to their Sucker Punch resistance

**Mixed Defensive Pokemon**: Pokemon such as Hariyama, Musharna and Pelipper, are all able to pivot in on Kecleon and force it to take life orb rounds, ohko it, or heal up and then kill kecleon due to good natural bulk
QC 1/3 once you implement everything

Overview:

A lot of your points need to be fleshed out a bit more. For instance, you should touch on why it's a good wallbreaker by saying Kecleon breaks past common Normal-type checks making it a great addition to Normal spam teams. Strong priority by itself is not gonna cut to either. Say that its strong priority helps make up for its abysmal speed for even a wallbreaker. For the third point, you're better off mentioning Protean in the first sentence, because that one refers to its wallbreaking prowess already. Same thing applies to the fourth point. Also make a line that it can pivot into some special attacks because of its fairly impressive special bulk even invested. Protean can also be used to screw with Pokemon too with switching its types around to gain an advantage. Mention that its Speed is so slow to the point where it needs to invest in it just to outspeed already slow walls.

Moves

Add in Omastar as a Grass Knot target.

Set Details

Add in that the Attack investment can also lets Kecleon have a good chance to OHKO Swellow with Sucker Punch after Stealth Rock (75%)

Usage Tips

It should be noted that some faster offensive Pokemon can take advantage of Sucker Punch by responding with status move. For instance, Rotom, Mismagius, and Haunter are all capable of evading a Sucker Punch with Will-O-Wisp, which in turn also cripples Kecleon.

Team Options

Tailwind Scyther isn't really relevant here. I'd prefer seeing Mesprit and Audino listed here as teammates, as both of them can slow down faster threats with Thunder Wave, use Healing Wish to bring Kecleon back to full should it be worn down too much by Life Orb and other repeated attacks, and for the former, can provide Stealth Rock support, letting Kecleon nab KOes on Steelix through Sturdy, Vileplume, and Swellow. Defensive Omastar should be mentioned as a hazard stacking partner, as on its own it can set up two of any combination of hazards (Stealth Rock, Spikes, and Toxic Spikes) and switches in on physical attackers that can easily KO Kecleon through its poor defense such as Archeops, Tauros, Kangaskhan, and Charizard.

Checks and Counters:

This whole section needs to be expanded upon. Add in that Will-O-Wisp users can screw of Kecleon attempting to revenge it with Sucker Punch. Also make note of Pokemon such as Tauros and Kangaskhan whom can easily shrug off a Sucker Punch and OHKO back with their respective STABs. Kangaskhan can even evade Sucker Punch itself with the combination of Fake Out + Sucker Punch. The second section needs to go into more specifics. Musharna can use Kecleon lacking Knock Off to freely set up Calm Mind and heal off damage with Moonlight. Even Barrier variants can beat Kecleon with Knock Off 1v1 so be sure to mention that as well. Mantine should also get mention because it doesn't really mind switching into any move Kecleon has to offer other than Knock Off and can burn it with Scald, cutting its physical attack and wearing it down further. Make sure to mention something similar for Pelipper.

Set should probably just be renamed to Wallbreaker, it's not a particularly strong chameleon and the joke isn't funny enough to warrant a custom set name.

You also seem to oversell Kecleon quite a lot. It's decent but you shouldn't really use phrases like "Kecleon has absurd power" when it has base 90 / 60 offensive stats that aren't even fully invested. Emphasise that Kecleon's access to STAB on its vast array of coverage moves is what makes it so threatening.

In Moves, you should mention that Kecleon can't be relied on solely for spinblocking if it uses Shadow Sneak because it can't actually switch in to block Rapid Spin, unlike Ghost-types.

Other Options should go into further depth about what each of these sets do. For example, what moves would the Assault Vest set use other than Power Up Punch? What moves would a fully physical set use? Why are these worse options in general?

An assault vest Power-up-punch Kecleon set with Knock Off, Sucker Punch and Drain Punch is able to turn Kecleon into a bulky sweeper; this set also provides a good pivot into the likes of magmortar and charizard. A Facade set is able to abuse burn and thunder wave, which are commonly applied to Kecleon in order to give it a base 140 power STAB attack; able to dent many pokemon. A lum full-physical set is able to take advantage of many many lead sleeper pokemon or will-o-wisp pokemon such as Jynx and gourgeist respectively.
- Note why the Assault Vest set isn't recommended (too many physically defensive Pokemon that can respond to this). You should explain that Assault Vest Kecleon should only attempt to pivot into the weaker attacks of most special attackers; its lack of resistances and recovery do not make it a good initial switch-in to nearly any powerful special attacker.
- I don't see why you need Lum Berry; the main set listed above pretty much allows you to muscle through these status users already.
- You may talk about Kecleon's rather expansive attacking movepool, but also emphasize that most of its other attacks don't offer as much efficient coverage as the main set does. Probably the only moves that would warrant special mention are Rock Slide and ThunderPunch, which deal with bulky Charizard and Pelipper, respectively.
- Now people may be eyeing Kecleon's large supportive movepool, which includes moves such as Magic Coat and Recover. However, note that Kecleon's low Speed and type changing means that Kecleon's Protean can be more easily exploited whenever it is not attacking, which is discouraged.

Checks and Counters
===================

**Faster Physical Attackers**: Pokemon that can take a hit and kill, or can out-prioritize Kecleon and kill it, these include Kangaskhan and Skuntank due to their good natural bulk and Sucker Punch resistance respectively

Your C&C section is not only lackluster; it's also extremely repetitive. Kangaskhan has been mentioned 3 times already as if there is nothing better, and you didn't even try to bring up Skuntank in your 'Faster Priority' section again. This whole section needs to be reworked.

I feel "bulky revenge killers" and "faster priority" can just be merged with 'faster physical attackers'. You don't need to be exceptionally bulky to revenge Kecleon, you just have to not take buttloads from Sucker Punch, and the faster priority attackers are already covered in the faster physical attackers section. Since this section has been merged, I expect to see a lot more examples than the mere four options you have here, listing them in order of how well they respond to Kecleon. Bulky Charizard probably tops this list since it can Will-O-Wisp Kecleon, Roost off the damage, and Acrobatics Kecleon to death. Next best examples include mons with a Sucker Punch resistance, such as Hitmonchan, Skuntank, Shiftry, Combusken, and Liepard. Then you can bring up priority attackers that can play mindgames with Kecleon's Sucker Punch, such as Kangaskhan, Kabutops, and Abomasnow (you may repeat the aforementioned ones here if you wish). Finally, the faster attackers that can simply tank the Sucker Punch and KO Kecleon back, such as Tauros, Barbaracle, Scyther, Malamar, and whatnot.

Jeez it feels like I had to work a majority of this analysis myself at times. Tag me when you're done.
