Keep on Chasing that Dream – A UUFPL Epilogue

Lokix and Diancie entered the Grand Hall at the Capital. Big Snow Mantis was gone. Luigi Coin was gone. The banners had fallen, and the audience had dispersed. The stage was empty now. But who was left to rule? And more importantly… what was left to say?

Catnip Lilydeen motioned quietly, pressing a small button beneath a worn notebook near a hidden faucet in a ceiling closet. “This way,” she said. “There’s something you need to see.” The two stepped through a hidden corridor into a dimly lit chamber. Across the walls, vibrant murals pulsed with color and memory—moments not from this Games, nor the last—but all of them.

“What is this…?” Gilderoy Lokix whispered. “It’s not from my metagame…”

Catnip gave a wistful smile. “This is a reliquary. A museum. A memory of all the Games that came before. And there’s someone who can tell you the rest better than me.” With a flick of her wrist, she tossed a shimmering Beast Ball to the floor. It cracked open—and out stepped a scarred Scyther, tired but dignified. Mantigovius.

“Catnip,” he said, “it’s been a long time.”

“Not long enough,” she smirked. “But the stage is yours. They should hear it from you.”

Mantigovius looked toward the walls and began.

“A long time ago, I had a dream. A silly, stubborn dream. I wanted to make a tournament. A real one. Something special—not just for the best of the best, but for the rest of us. For the dreamers. For the ones who never got picked for UUPL. That was how I made the first UUFPL.”

He pointed to a mural showing the Blipbug City Battlegirls, arms raised in victory, and the Flapple Bottom Jeans fighting proudly behind them.

“The first Games had no name, just ambition. It was rough. I made mistakes—grave ones. I hid the ugliness, the drama, the pain. I thought I was protecting the Games, but in truth, I was lying to everyone. I was punished for it. Deservedly. Sent to exile on PS Main. But still… the people had seen something in that tournament. They remembered.”

His claw traced a silver-etched portrait labeled UUFPL II – Birth of Kings and Legends. Silicobra Kai stood tall above a field of fallen contenders. Diancie Is Unbreakable knelt proudly in second.

“But then came the second Games. I wasn’t allowed to run it alone. I needed help. That help came from a rising star - a Zarude who trusted me. His name was Monke. Together, we built something greater than before. Lavish videos. A wizard villain. A real narrative. The people didn’t just watch - it felt like they were in it. Silicobra Kai became legend. And the Diancie that had nearly won? She became something more too - a symbol.”

Then, a swirling mural of pink and green energy, a journal held aloft.

“Then came the third Games. UUFPL III – From the Journals of Captain Ursula S.V. Upshaw. I had discovered a mythical journal, and it became the basis of our entire season. We told a time-bending tale. We picked a tribute—Kelly—to embody Ursula’s journey. Gilderoy Lokix, the rogue champion, took the crown. And Black Ops Spidops fought to the bitter end.”

He paused.

“But with each success, I felt more unease. Because as our dreams got bigger, so did the pressure. What were we really creating? What were we asking from our tributes?”

He motioned to a radiant sun-like engraving: UUFPL IV – Rise of FPL-kind.

“That’s when the fourth Games changed everything. A Tyrunt, ancient in nature who went by the name Akerogua, joined as co-host, and we took inspiration from ancient civilizations. This time, the battles were not just fierce—they were philosophical. Azelf on the Shelf emerged as a symbol of strategy, of psychic clarity. The Three Flamigos pushed them harder than anyone expected. But Azelf endured, and won. And in their win, I saw a spark. Not ambition. Not ego. But purpose.”

He took a deep breath. His voice softened.

“Now we are here. The Quarter Quell. UUFPL V. The grand finale. Diancie Is Unbreakable, once again in the finals—this time against her greatest rival yet: Gilderoy Lokix. The circle is closing.”

He looked toward the ceiling where lights shimmered like stars.

“I made these Games because I wanted to give others what I never had. A chance. A team. A story. But along the way, I got caught up in the spectacle. In trying to prove something. That I was right. That I could make something unforgettable. And maybe I did…”

He turned back toward Lokix and Diancie.

“But these Games—all of them—were never about me. They weren’t about crowns or power or records. They were about all of you. The players. The tributes. The ones who chose to show up and play. Because it’s not winning that matters. It’s that we played. That we had fun.”

Mantigovius turned slowly to face Lokix, Diancie, and Catnip, his wings twitching faintly, his eyes glinting with memory.

“If we forget that… if we forget the joy, the laughter, the nonsense names and silly jokes… then we lose the point. We lose everything. And we can’t let that happen. Not ever.

“You see, we never joined Smogon because we wanted to prove we were the best at everything. We weren’t warriors seeking crowns. We weren’t emperors looking for land. We were kids. Dreamers. Loners. Try-hards. We joined because we wanted to play some games. We wanted to build teams and make friends and click funny moves and say dumb things in the chat. We wanted to see our names in replays. We wanted to feel something.

"And somewhere along the way… we lose that. We lose the purpose of what these games—and all the other ones on this site—are really for. We lose the fact that this isn't about stats, or spreadsheets, or who drafted who, or who made one bad bring in Week Three. This isn't about tiering policy, or Discord drama, or forum clout. This is about fun. It was always supposed to be fun.

“But we forget that because we care so much. And don’t get me wrong—it’s okay to care. It’s beautiful to care. That’s what makes this magical. But when we let that care become poison, when we let our egos strangle the joy out of the thing we loved most, then what are we even fighting for anymore?

"These games are sacred. Not because they crown champions. But because they connect us. Because a boy in Poland and a girl in Texas and a nonbinary player in Chile can all come together and laugh over a match where someone used Prankster TWave on a Dark-type. Because someone who just wanted to sub in for fun can end up in the finals. Because a team of fifteen strangers can become a family and leave their team discord server open several years after the tour ends.

“I made UUFPL to give people a chance. But I stayed because I saw what those chances became. Legends born. Rivals made. Stories written. You all took what I built and turned it into something I could never have imagined. You rose up the ranks and actually made it into the more prestigious tours. And because of all of you, the rest of the site has followed suit too.

“So, if there’s one thing I’ve learned through all this, through failure, through redemption, through war and wizardry and the worst matchup fishing you've ever seen, it's one really basic principle. It's that this whole thing only works if we let it stay fun. That's all it's about. We want to have fun. And that even goes beyond UUFPL, beyond Smogon, beyond mons. That's just life. That's all we could ever hope for, to enjoy it.

"So when the salt rises, and the logs are too long, and someone makes a bad power ranking and the world feels like it's ending, just stop. Honestly. Breathe. Remember why you logged on in the first place. Remember the first time someone said GG and actually meant it. Remember your first replay. Your first team tour. Your first friend. And never let go of that. Because as long as there is one person out there willing to log in, click 'find battle,' and smile... then this game—this league—this community—it lives on. And that is the real victory."

Catnip stepped forward. “So what do we do now?”

Mantigovius turned to her, and then to the reliquary. “We remember. We tell the story. And we keep playing. Until the end of time.”

s/o FishyRoads Mozonite Jusfordlolz
you were all super helpful for tests and just general prep throughout the tour, always fun to prep + test uubers with u guys (even if some of u, not pointing any fingers, burn down the kitchen a bit more often than one would hope :P)

s/o Imperial for providing the team for finals, glad i didnt load it week 6 like i initially planned since it popped off for finals which was just a lil more important of a game (also the fact that it woulda just eneded up loading into the DBD sacrifice rather than the intended rasche)

s/o Jeza.p dunoks for giving me the oppurtunity to play even tho i went undrafted initially, i like to think i took good advantage of it but it never wouldve happened if u didnt give me the chance. extra shoutout to jeza for always being there for moral support even when i shat the bed, and just generally being a constant uplifting presence in the teamcord (the actual best manager of the tour)

very fun tour, which in all honesty restored my enjoyment of uubers as a tier (whether that a positive or negative is debatable), and allowed me to have a great experience with some very nice ppl

LETS GO LOKIX!

It always feels good when it’s time for my traditional s/o after winning a tour, and this UUFPL win is a bit special.
This was the first tournament I ever managed on Smogon, two years ago, and it was also the first tournament I ever won as a manager on smogon. So taking this title back now hits differently, there’s a particular flavor to it. A bit of nostalgia, a lot of pride. And honestly? I still love it just as much as the first time.
Also, a huge shout-out to the hosts of this UUFPL. Managing a tournament isn’t easy, and your work behind the scenes really made everything run smoothly. It’s thanks to you all that players and managers can just focus on competing and enjoying the ride. Dave Larry Maia mason Ticken adorluigi Gaboswampert MrSoup
And a special mention to BigFatMantis , you're the reason I fell in love with this tournament in the first place, first as a player, and now even more as a manager. Your passion, energy, and commitment are contagious, and it genuinely elevated the whole experience for me. Thank you for making UUFPL feel like home.
...Also, real talk, what do I have to do to get that Best Manager award? :psysly:
Undefeated run? Title reclaimed? Come on, I’m just saying. :eeveehide:

And of course, a big thank you to all our helpers, from the ones who helped with prep and testing, to those who just dropped in to support the team throughout the run. Your contributions mattered. Massive love Shadow079 who invited the entire UUbers community, your energy, insights, and support carried us too FishyRoads Jusfordlolz Mozonite Imperial . Couldn’t have done it without you all. 691 special thanks to you, you know who you are. If our SV core performed the way it did, it’s because you were part of that success. Your input, presence, and support made a real difference.

I also want to give some well-deserved respect to the Diancies, our final opponents. You gave us two of our toughest weeks in this tournament, and pushed us to be at our absolute best, both during the regular season and again in the final. Props to you all for the fight, the prep, and the level of play. And to my friends on that team, you’ve all been doing great. It’s always a weird feeling facing people you genuinely like and respect, Zelph Dusk Caesarr . Nothing but love.

stunner047 it was a real pleasure meeting you through this tournament. You’ve been doing great, and I’m really glad we’re already sharing another tournament together. Let’s hope we win what we are working for , and keep this winning streak alive.

leoperi , you’ll be a double champ soon, I promise. The way you’ve performed and carried yourself, it’s only a matter of time. It was genuinely great having you on the team, glad we got to share this run together. More to come!

Hydronics ,you were the player I absolutely wanted, and you gave me every reason to feel confident about spending big on you. You proved your worth in every sense, not just as a top-tier player, but as a true leader in this team. After the heartbreaking loss last year, I’m really glad we finally got the win together. You earned it. We earned it.

Drud , you are simply so good, and it’s always a privilege to manage players like you. Your consistency, level of play, and presence make a real difference, and I’m grateful to have had you on the team once again.

violet river , very impressive run during this tournament. Honestly, I don’t even know what else to say, you've let your performance speak for itself, and it was a pleasure to watch

THE_CHUNGLER the way we put you in every tier whenever we needed it, and the way you still managed to be amazing every single time, is truly incredible. Your adaptability and consistency were a huge part of our success.

Clem During the draft, we knew we wanted you because you were a cracked player from the start. Seeing you become an All Star isn’t even a surprise for us, it just confirmed what we already knew. You delivered exactly what we expected, and more.

naviii 1 I honestly don’t know what to say about you. You had real-life things going on, you left, came back, and then disappeared again. The last message you sent me didn’t leave me feeling good, and I’ve thought about it a lot since. I truly hope that one day you’ll see this message and know that I’m wishing you well, wherever you are. My friend, this trophy is for you.

fyfyk From my previous experience with the Chinese PL, I’ve learned something important, even if nobody knows you on Smogon, you guys are incredibly talented. But more than that, you’re legendary players in your own right. The skill, dedication, and quiet excellence you bring speak louder than any recognition ever could.

Kitoothe You are my MVP of the tournament. I honestly can’t put into words how I feel about you, but what I can say for sure is that every single week, you amazed me with your skill, your composure, and your impact. It was something special to witness.

Shadow079 I love scouting the playerbase to discover people like you. When Imperial gave us his notice, I wasn’t expecting anything special to come from that situation, but then I saw your CV, what you were capable of, and you instantly gave me hope. I still can’t explain how you went undrafted, but what you did for this team was unbelievable. You carried us with your dedication and won the two most important games of the tournament in your tier. You came into this tournament as an undrafted player, you're leaving it as a legend.

Imperial Thank you for being honest with us when you felt the motivation wasn’t there anymore, that kind of transparency means a lot. And thank you as well for your support throughout the rest of the tournament. Even off the field, your presence mattered.

Tempo di anguria It was clearly not your tournament, but that doesn’t change anything about the player you are, talented, dedicated, and absolutely deserving of trust. Everyone has tough runs sometimes, but what matters is the attitude, and you stayed present, positive, and supportive throughout. I know what you're capable of, and I’m sure your moment will come again soon. I’d be glad to work with you any time.

Kapperajah Your dedication was clutch for us, you showed up every time we needed you, without fail. You have the right mentality, the kind that makes a difference in any tournament. With that mindset, I have no doubt you'll keep performing well wherever you go.

SpaceSpeakers You’re becoming part of a very exclusive circle, one of the few players with whom I’ve won every single tournament I’ve managed after picking you up. I truly hope this streak lasts forever between you and me. There’s something special about the connection we’ve built.

dunoks My brother, you and I have known each other for a very long time, ever since we started this game together. When I wanted to do the UUPL, you told me I should find someone else if I wanted to get picked. But I only wanted to do it with you. I told you that if we didn’t get selected for the UUPL, then we’d get our title back in this tournament, and I didn’t lie. Together, we made history as the first pair to win this title multiple times. Managing with you is always something stunning, and I’m grateful to share this journey with you.

To finish, I also should thanks some of my friends, zuzhouwawa , hybone , HSBT, Meracx .
