Klinklang is a very unique and threatening sweeper because of its access to Shift Gear, a solid STAB attack, and Wild Charge. Its Steel typing gives it a few useful resistances that, when paired with its good natural bulk, allow it to set up on many threatening Pokemon such as Silvally-Dragon, Flapple, and Abomasnow. Wild Charge is able to do a good amount of damage to Pokemon that resist Gear Grind, such as Wishiwashi, Rotom-S, and Silvally-Water, when boosted. Substitute is a phenomenal move when predicting a status move, allowing Klinklang to boost versus Pokemon such as Clefairy and Eldegoss. Alternatively, Protect lets Klinklang scout for moves from Choice-locked Indeedee-F and Toxicroak and get an extra turn of Leftovers recovery. Magnet Rise allows Klinklang to set up on Ground-types such as Sandaconda and Piloswine, although it should be wary of Glare and Superpower, respectively. The EVs allow Klinklang to have as much bulk as possible while also outspeeding base 105 Speed Pokemon such as Rapidash and common Choice Scarf users like Togedemaru after a Shift Gear boost.
Try to preserve Klinklang until its common checks such as Rapidash, Sandaconda, and Lanturn have been chipped down. Because its typical answers are weak to Spikes, Klinklang enjoys being teamed with Garbodor, which can set up Spikes and Toxic Spikes, chipping common checks to Klinklang such as Togedemaru and Toxicroak. Klinklang is often paired with other setup sweepers such as Swords Dance Silvally-Fire and Nasty Plot Toxicroak, allowing them to overwhelm mutual checks. Water-types such as Wishiwashi, Lanturn, and Silvally-Water are incredibly bulky and able to take on most Fire- and Ground-types, which are Pokemon that Klinklang generally struggles against. Abomasnow is a notable partner, handling pesky Ground-types such as Quagsire and Sandaconda while bestowing Aurora Veil support, providing more opportunities for Klinklang to set up and sweep.
