Knocked Up

nathans comment: "it hurted my funny"

Story:
Seth Rogen plays 23 year old slacker named Ben Stone, opposite, Katherine Heigl plays Alison Scott, a responsible television presenter. Supporting the two are characters Pete and Debbie (Paul Rudd and Leslie Mann) a married couple, Debbie, being Alisons older sister.

The story unfolds from the discovery of Alisons pregnancy and the film starts to explore, and subsequently poke fun at each character and their reactions towards such a drastic change in Alisons life and each character comming to terms with their responsibilities to each other and themselves.

Knocked Up presents a very "campy" style of humour, corny jokes and plot twists at the expense of many of the characters; funny one liners include: "he's playing fetch with my children >.>".
Characterisation influences the audience to a large degree in Knocked Up, allowing us to love some characters and hate others. The music used is simple and effective, so is the lighting and camera work.

Perhaps Knocked Up doesn't present the most intelligent of characters, the simplicity of plot, music, lighting and camera work allow Knocked Up to become almost as funny as School of Rock (in my opinion anyway)

To end; Knocked Up "hurted my funny" in the very sharp and blunt way that humor was delivered, perhaps it was just me who recoiled everytime something corny was said or when one of the characters does something stuipd for comic relief, but perhaps, it could be you too.

yeah, its one of those surprisingly good movies, the hype surrounding it wasnt overrated at all. seriously, never in any other comedy i have ever watched, have i heard the line: "he's playing fetch with my children"
O.O --> *implodes with funny*

So basically, Anti is the wrongest user in this thread.

Saw it with chaos, almost pissed myself with laughter.

Good stuff, I really enjoyed the part where the messed up baby was starting at him, one of the creepiest things ever XD

I actually thought it was funny, the ending lagged a bit though, becoming far too serious and dropping 80% of the comedy.

That's just how it should've been. Each story has to have a conflict, and then steps toward a resolution. It can't just be crazy hilarity the whole way through, the serious parts were very appropriate.

Yes, the movie was balanced which is part of the reason it's a really good movie instead of just a really funny one.

i thoroughly enjoyed this movie. the only comedy that even touched this one was superbad and that was another of seth rogan's babies.

This movie was definitely hilarious, but it lost some of the magic the second time around. Probably because I had a great first screening with a ton of friends and a packed audience that laughed hard and loud, which always makes the movie better.

F'ing hilarious. Seth Rogen and his band of misfits are just hilarious. Can't wait for the next one from them. Superbad = 9/10 (just overuse of cursing, to the point where it might have been too much), Knocked Up = 10/10.

great post there Al_Alchemist

anyway now this thread has been brought to my attention i might as well give my 2p: i enjoyed this movie but it wasnt as good as superbad in my book! it seemed to be too story-driven which isn't a great thing for a traditionally predictable comedy. although it did make me laugh and engage with the characters, i think it will be largely forgotten in a few years' time. hopefully because it will have been overshadowed by a new seth rogan movie!
