[OVERVIEW]

Kricketune's access to Sticky Web allows offensive Pokemon such as Sawk, Mesprit, and Shiftry to outspeed their foes, and access to Taunt and Endeavor allows it to prevent Defog users such as Prinplup and Pelipper from removing Sticky Web. However, Kricketune faces competition from Leavanny, which has Magic Coat to bounce back entry hazards, is faster, and has more offensive presence that allows it to better take on spinners such as Kabutops and Claydol. In addition to this, Kricketune is dead weight against common Taunt users such as Archeops and has a bad matchup against other entry hazard users such as Rhydon and Crustle, which have Rock Blast to break through its Focus Sash. It is also walled by Xatu, one of the most common entry hazard stoppers, which has Magic Bounce to bounce back Taunt and Sticky Web and commonly runs Colbur Berry, allowing it to take a Knock Off.

Moves
========

Sticky Web is the main reason to use Kricketune and provides speed control for offensive teams. Taunt cripples Defog users such as Prinplup and Pelipper and neuters entry hazard setters such as Garbodor and setup sweepers such as Gurdurr. Endeavor allows Kricketune to bring foes to 1 HP after being knocked down to its Focus Sash, allowing a teammate to deal with them later. Knock Off hits Xatu and cripples Eviolite users such as Rhydon and Misdreavus.

Set Details
========

This EV spread and a Naive nature allow Kricketune to outspeed as many Pokemon as possible and to hit as hard as possible while enabling it to Taunt Pokemon such as Prinplup and Pelipper before they can use Defog. The IVs for HP, Defense, and Special Defense are minimized in order to bring down Kricketune down to its Focus Sash more reliably and use Endeavor more effectively. Investing EVs in bulk is not recommended, as Kricketune is a suicide lead.

Usage Tips
========

Kricketune should be used as a suicide lead most of the time in order to take advantage of Endeavor and bring foes down to 1 HP. Setting up Sticky Web is Kricketune's main priority, but it should also use Taunt on Defog users such as Prinplup and Pelipper or on entry hazard setters such as Garbodor. Kricketune should then spam Knock Off to remove the items of Pokemon such as Tangela and Gurdurr. Once Kricketune is down to its Focus Sash, it should use Endeavor in order to bring to foe down to 1 HP. However, if the opponent carries a Pokemon that will beat Kricketune one-on-one, such as Archeops or Xatu, it is advised not to lead with it. If Kricketune's Focus Sash is still intact, it can be saved for later to cripple foes with Endeavor.

Team Options
========

Kricketune only fits on offensive teams, as they can take advantage of Sticky Web and handle spinners and Defoggers much more effectively than balanced and stall teams. Defensive and offensive spinblockers, such as Gourgeist-XL and Haunter, respectively, are able to prevent Pokemon such as Kabutops from removing Sticky Web. Defiant users such as Pawniard and Primeape are able to switch in on Defog users such as Prinplup and gain a +2 Attack boost. Contrary users such as Malamar and Servine pressure Xatu, which Kricketune has trouble with, from blocking Sticky Web with Magic Bounce, as they can receive a +1 Speed boost. Conversely, Dark-types, such as Shiftry and Skuntank, are able to outright remove Xatu for Kricketune. Pokemon that benefit from Sticky Web to outspeed their foes, such as Sawk, Mesprit, and Shiftry, also pair well with Kricketune. Pokemon such as Piloswine and Rhydon can set up Stealth Rock, which goes well with Kricketune's Sticky Web support to deal chip damage as well as punish Flying-types and Levitate users. Fast Pokemon such as Choice Scarf Jynx and Rotom are able to deal with Pokemon with Levitate and Flying-types, which are immune to Sticky Web.

[STRATEGY COMMENTS]
Other Options
=============

Unfortunately, Kricketune does not have many options that prevent it from being heavily outclassed by other physical attackers such as Scyther. X-Scissor can be used for a reliable STAB move combined with Swarm, while Bug Bite can be used in combination with Technician, but Kricketune lacks the moveslot for it. Perish Song allows Kricketune to force a switch and prevent sweepers such as Gurdurr from setting up, but Taunt is preferred to prevent Defog users such as Prinplup from removing Sticky Web, and it is rarely a worthwhile choice.

Checks and Counters
===================

**Xatu**: Kricketune cannot do much to Xatu, which has Magic Bounce to bounce back Sticky Web and Taunt and commonly runs Colbur Berry to better take a Knock Off.

**Faster Taunt Users**: Faster Taunt users such as Archeops easily outspeed Kricketune and can prevent it from setting up Sticky Web.

**Multi-Hit Attacks**: Multi-hit attacks such as Rhydon's and Crustle's Rock Blast and Klinklang's Gear Grind can break through Kricketune's Focus Sash and can KO it; however, these Pokemon must be wary of Taunt, as the former two will not be able to set up Stealth Rock and the latter cannot set up Shift Gear.

**Pokemon that are Immune to Sticky Web**: Flying-type Pokemon such as Scyther and Vivillon are immune to Sticky Web and can deal massive damage to Kricketune with their Flying-type moves, but they must watch out for Endeavor. Pokemon with Levitate are also immune to Sticky Web; specifically, Misdreavus and Rotom are immune to Endeavor, and Misdreavus even commonly carries Taunt, but they must watch out for Knock Off.

**Entry Hazard Removal**: Once Kricketune is knocked out, spinners such as Kabutops and Defog users such as Prinplup are able to remove Sticky Web from the field.

**Residual Damage**: Residual damage from burns and poison breaks through Kricketune's Focus Sash and prevents it from using Endeavor effectively. Lead Aurorus also has Snow Warning to break through Kricketune's Focus Sash and prevent it from using Endeavor reliably.

*obligatory not QC disclaimer*

In the overview I would also state that Sticky Web helps with slower offensive mons such as Sawk, Mesprit, SD Shiftry, etc. Also tbh I would remove listing Torterra as wallbreaker (Torterra is more of a tank). Mention Xatu also gives it a lot of issues.

Usage tips should also state that Kricktune shouldn't lead in matchups where Xatu isn't in team preview. Xatu carries Colbur most of the time anyways so Kricketune can't exactly beat it with Knock Off.

Also in team options add Servine and Malamar, as they actually benefit from Sticky Web even if it gets bounced back by Xatu thanks to Contrary boosting them to +1 (s/o to Luck O' the Irish). When you mention Pawniard, also bring up how if Sticky Web gets on your side of the field, Pawniard gets a free defiant boost the speed drop. Pokemon that take down Xatu in general pair well (Electric-, Ice-, Rock-, and Ghost-types).

OO should really only include X-Scissor. Heal Bell, Swords Dance, and Sing all sound hilariously awful.

One more thing, but please list Xatu in C&C and put it first, as it prevents Kricketune from doing anything by bouncing back Taunt and Sticky Web.

Thanks man. for TO servine and malamar seems kind of niche to me, I'll ask a qc member for that. also for OO, i'm not sure about removing all of that cause it will be kind of bare, but i'll ask a qc member for that too.

Those mons are hardly niche considering they benefit from either scenario (Servine can be especially terrifying as its boosting up with Leaf Storm). Also don't add things to OO for the sake of listing things. If the mon doesn't have any other viable options then it just doesn't and I'm sure the QC members agree with this.

alright, Sorry, I understand

  • Faces competition from Leavanny, which has Magic Coat to bounce back entry hazards, and is faster
Add that another advantage Leavanny has over Kricketune would be its greater offensive presence, allowing it to actively pressure most hazard removers.

  • Sticky Web provides speed control and allows slow wallbreakers such as Rhydon and Mawile to outspeed their threats
  • Taunt cripples Defog users such as Prinplup and ???
  • Endeavor allows Kricketune to bring foes to 1HP and allow a teammate to deal with them later
  • Knock Off hits Xatu and the likes of Eviolite users such as Rhydon and Misdreavus
- Rhydon and Mawile don't exactly have the Speed to zip past everything after Sticky Web; why not just use the examples you have in your Overview?
- Also note that Taunt prevents foes such as Garbodor, Gurdurr, and Rhydon from setting up alongside Kricketune.

  • This EV spread and a Jolly nature allow Kricketune to outspeed as much as possible and hit as hard as possible
  • Focus Sash is the chosen item in order to cripple foes to 1HP and let a teammate deal with them
  • As Kricketune is a suicide lead, it should not put EVs into Defense or Special Defense
If that is the case, then you don't need to put the 4 Def EVs on the set at all. Heck, you can even put 0 HP IVs, 0 Def IVs, and 0 SpD IVs on the set in order to ensure almost any hit brings Kricketune down to its Sash, maximizing Endeavor's damage output more consistently.

  • Unfortunately, Kricketune does not have many options that prevent it from being heavily outclassed
  • X-Scissor can be used for a reliable STAB move combined with Swarm while Bug Bite can be used if combined with Technician, but kricketune lacks the moveslot for it
One option you could consider would be Perish Song, which can force a switch and gives Kricketune some utility against bulky setup sweepers, but also stress that its delayed effect is less favorable compared to Endeavor's ability to immediately pressure the foe.

I'm back again! (and this time QC!)

Make sure to add Klinklang into multi-hit attackers as well, as it can OHKO Kricketune, preventing it from doing anything. Also somewhere it should mention that Lead Aurorus prevents Kricketune from using endeavor after it's brought down to its Sash due to hail finishing it off at the end of the turn. Also add the Pokemon listed in the overview that benefit from Sticky Web in team options and remove Mawile and Rhydon as Punchshroom said.

Kricketune is very straight forward, so QC 1/3

It appears you've misunderstood what I meant by going minimal defenses on Kricketune. I'll just provide an example template:

Also now that I look at it, I believe this bit here is better suited in Team Options, don't you think?

Thanks Punchshroom! sorry i didnt know you could put 0ivs in HP, Def, and SpD like that.

To both of you, I promise I will write this soon

Really minor nitpick, but if you are intentionally trying to have as little bulk as possible, then you might as well run Hasty or Naïve over Jolly.

Maybe it's just me but perish song sounds hilariously garbage to me because a webs team should have enough offenses to keep gurdurr in check and you should have a fight resist on your team anyways even if somehow gurdurr sets up which it won't be doing with the damages a sticky web team should be able to dish out.

And you have Taunt ffs

Don't put Perish Song in OO. You need all of your moves to be a usable Pokemon.

Set Details should also mention why the IVs (and nature) are chosen as such (to maximize Endeavor damage).

marilli He could always mention Perish Song in a more negative tone and why new users shouldn't use it over other moves. But yeah rubsomebacononit you can add that between Taunt and Endeavor, Perish Song is rarely a worthwhile choice.

Yeah I wrote this and implemented your suggestions, thanks.

add offensive ghost types to team options, something like LO Haunter or Mismagius (Golurk even) just to deter rapid spin

kricketune is really straight forward, set up webs, die, maube use endeavor while youre at it

One thing I have never understood on the Kricketune analyses so far is, why is the ability of choice Technician if non of the attacks on the suggested set benefic from it?
Wouldn't it be better to mention Technician in combination of the move Bug Bite in the OO?

A newcomer to competitive battling who plays only on cardridge would just breed this thing wasting maybe hours to find it even only to realise that the ability has no function at all.

uh Swarm is pretty useless too as Kricketune's attacking move would be Knock Off.

and I already did mention the combination of Technician with Bug Bite.

Taunt cripples Defog users such as Prinplup and Pelipper (RC) and also prevents neuters entry hazard setters such as Garbodor and setup sweepers such as Gurdurr. Endeavor allows Kricketune to bring foes to 1HP combined with after being knocked down to its Focus Sash and allows to have a teammate to deal with them later. Knock Off hits Xatu and the likes of cripples Eviolite users such as Rhydon and Misdreavus.

Set Details
========

This EV spread and a Naive nature allow Kricketune to outspeed as much many Pokemon as possible (RC) and to hit as hard as possible, and also allows it to cripple Defog users such as Prinplup and Pelipper down to Endeavour Range. (if this refers to the minimum bulk IVs, you should just remove it cause you're saying that twice and it doesn't have anything to do with the EV spread or the nature; if you're referring to Taunting them them, change it to "specifically enabling it to Taunt Pokemon such as Prinplup and Pelipper before they can use Defog.") The IVs for HP, Defense, and Special Defense are minimised minimized in order to bring down Kricketune down to its Focus Sash more quickly reliably and use Endeavor effectively. Investing EVs in bulk is not recommended, (AC) as Kricketune is a suicide lead.

Usage Tips
========

Kricketune should be used as a suicide lead most of the time in order to take advantage of Endeavor and bring foes down to 1HP. Setting up Sticky Web is Kricketune's main priority, as it is important for its team, but it should also use Taunt on Defog users such as Prinplup and Pelipper or on entry hazard setters such as Garbodor. Kricketune should then spam Knock Off to remove the item of Pokemon such as Tangela. Once Kricketune is down to its Focus Sash, it should use Endeavor in order to bring to foe down to 1(space)HP. However, if the opponent carries a Pokemon that will beat Kricketune one-on-one, such as Archeops and or Xatu, it is advised not to lead with it. If Kricketune's Focus Sash is still in tact intact, it can be saved for later to cripple foes with Endeavor.

Team Options
========

Kricketune only fits on offensive teams, (AC) as they can take advantage of Sticky Web and handle Rapid Spinners and Defoggers much more effectively than balanced and stall teams. Defensive and offensive spinblockers, such as Gourgeist-XL and Haunter, respectively, are able to block Rapid Spinners prevent Pokemon such as Kabutops for Kricketune from removing Sticky Web. Defiant users, such as Pawniard and Primeape, are able to switch in on Defog users such as Prinplup and gain a +2 Attack boost. Contrary users such as Malamar and Servine pressure Xatu, (AC) which Kricketune has trouble with, (AC) from blocking Sticky Web with Magic Bounce, (AC) as they can receive a +1 Speed boost. Conversely, (AC) Dark-types, such as Shiftry and Skunktank Skuntank, are able to effecitvely handle outright remove Xatu for Kricketune, which it has trouble with. Pokemon that benefit from Sticky Web to outspeed their foes, such as Sawk, Mesprit, and Shiftry, (AC) are able to outspeed their threats also pair well with Kricketune. Stealth Rock users from Pokemon such as Piloswine and Rhydon goes well with Kricketune's Sticky Web support to deal further chip damage. Fast Pokemon such as Choice Scarf Jynx and Rotom are able to deal with Pokemon with Levitate and Flying-types that are immune to Sticky Web

[STRATEGY COMMENTS]
Other Options
=============

Unfortunately, Kricketune does not have many options that prevent it from being heavily outclassed by other physical attackers such as Scyther. X-Scissor can be used for a reliable STAB move combined with Swarm, (AC) while Bug Bite can be used if combined in combination with Technician, but Kricketune lacks the moveslot for it. Perish Song allows Kricketune to force a switch and prevent setup sweepers such as Gurdurr from setting up, but Taunt is preferred to prevent Taunt Defog users such as Prinplup from removing Sticky Web, and it is rarely a worthwhile choice.

Checks and Counters
===================

**Xatu**: Kricketune cannot do much to Xatu, which has Magic Bounce to bounce back Sticky Web and Taunt (RC) and has commonly runs Colbur Berry to better take a Knock Off.

**Faster Taunt Users**: Faster Taunt users such as Archeops easily outspeed and can prevent Kricketune from setting up Sticky Web. In addition to this, Archeops has Rock Blast to break through Kricketune's Focus Sash.

**Multi-hit attacks**: Multi-hit attacks such as Rhydon and Crustle's Rock Blast and Klinklang's Gear Grinh Grind can break through Kricketune's Focus Sash and can KO it; (SC) but they must be wary of Taunt. however, these Pokemon must be wary of Taunt. (why?)

**Pokemon immune to Sticky Web**: Flying-type Pokemon such as Scyther and Vivillon are immune to Sticky Web and can deal massive damage with their Flying-type moves, but they must watch out for Endeavor. Pokemon with Levitate such as Misdreavus and Rotom are also immune to Sticky Web; (SC) carry Taunt, and specifically, Misdreavus and Rotom are immune to Endeavor, and Misdreavus even commonly carries Taunt, (AC) (Misdreavus and Rotom were just examples, and "Pokemon with Levitate" most definitely aren't immune to Endeavor etc, hence some pretty drastic restructuring) but they must watch out for Knock Off.

**Entry Hazard Removal**: Once Kricketune is knocked out, Rapid Spinners such as Kabutops and Defog users such as Prinplup are able to remove Sticky Web.

**Residual Damage**: Residual damage from burns and poison break through Kricketune's Focus Sash and prevents it from using Endeavor effectively. Lead Aurorus also has Snow Warning that breaks to break through Kricketune's Focus Sash and prevents prevent it from using Endeavor reliably.

Thank you The Dutch Plumberjack, your checks are solid as always. Also congrats on Forum Moderator!

Might do an AM check on this, in the meantime though here's a c/p of Dutch Plumberjack's check (left the comment in C&C because I'm not sure how to answer that)

However, Kricketune faces competition from Leavanny, which has Magic Coat to bounce back entry hazards, is faster, and has more offensive presence that allows it to better take on Rapid Spinners such as Kabutops and Claydol. In addition to this, Kricketune is dead weight against common Taunt users, such as Archeops, and has a bad matchup against other entry hazard users such as Rhydon and Crustle, which have Rock Blast to break through its Focus Sash. It is also walled by Xatu, one of the most common entry hazard stoppers, which has Magic Bounce to bounce back Taunt and Sticky Web and commonly runs Colbur Berry to better take a Knock Off.

**Pokemon That Are iImmune tTo Sticky Web**: (based on the concept of title case, that "to" is fine lowercase, though I personally would even be fine with "that are" lowercase. "Immune" should indeed be uppercase though.)
