National Dex Monotype Latias-Mega (Dragon) [QC 2/2] [GP 1/1]

[SET]
name: Bulky Calm Mind (Dragon)
move 1: Calm Mind
move 2: Roost
move 3: Thunderbolt
move 4: Ice Beam
item: Latiasite
ability: Levitate
nature: Timid
evs: 252 HP / 4 Def / 252 Spe

[SET COMMENTS]
Mega Latias can be a very potent wincon on Dragon teams due to its fantastic combination of bulk, Speed, and the notorious famous BoltBeam coverage, which allows it to be effective in many matchups such as Flying, Water, Ground, and Dragon. Calm Mind enables Mega Latias to clean weakened teams and handle Mega Diancie and Greninja after a few boosts, which otherwise threaten it. Roost is to boost its longevity so it can use Calm Mind throughout the match. Thunderbolt threatens a majority of Water-types and Flying-types, making said matchups easier. Ice Beam hits Ground-types and opposing Dragon-types super effectively. Try to use Mega Latias conservatively early-game to damage key threats weak to either Ice Beam or Thunderbolt. Only attempt a sweep once all of its checks are weakened. Levitate is Mega Latias's only ability and can be incredibly helpful in the Ground matchup. Maximum investment in Speed and HP in tandem with a Timid nature allows Mega Latias to become as fast as possible, outpacing threats like Landorus and Keldeo, while taking advantage of its fantastic bulk to set up Calm Mind more easily.

Mega Latias is most used as a wincon, so teammates that can help it sweep are appreciated. Dragalge provides Toxic Spikes support to help wear down Mega Latias's checks for it to sweep late-game and can also switch into Fairy-type attacks for it. Stealth Rock support from Duraludon or Garchomp is similarly helpful to weaken the few checks Mega Latias has. Mega Latias is walled by the majority of Steel-types; therefore, Pokemon that can defeat Steel-types such as Hydreigon and Kommo-o are useful. In particular, Kommo-o can form a sweeping core while taking on types that Mega Latias can't do much against, such as by taking on Blissey on Normal and Tyranitar on Dark. Hydreigo also notably helps in Ghost-type matchups. Dracovish can blow walls such as Porygon2 and Aegislash apart. Latios can outspeed threats faster than Mega Latias and blow away hazards with Defog. Dragonite can beat fast threats to Mega Latias such as Gengar and Greninja, as it provides a priority move in Extreme Speed and Multiscale.

Dragon

Mega Latias can use other options with Calm Mind but most are less potent than the BoltBeam combination. Stored Power and Refresh can be used to sweep Electric, Normal, and Fighting teams more easily and Stored Power synergizes well with Calm Mind, becoming stronger after each boost, but Dragon teams prefer the BoltBeam combination and can deal with said matchups in other ways.

Checks and Counters
===================
Dragon

**Fairy-types**: While Mega Latias's bulk allows it to take hits from Fairy-types, it can't do suitable damage in retaliation. Mimikyu is quite threatening, as both of its STAB types hit Mega Latias super effectively.

**Steel-types**: Steel-types can easily shrug off Mega Latias's attacks while crippling it with status or, in Mega Scizor's case, using it as setup fodder.

**Dark-types**: Dark-types can heavily dent Mega Latias without receiving enough damage in return. Tyranitar's great bulk and power make it one of the best checks to Mega Latias.

**Physical Wallbreakers**: Many physical wallbreakers can power through Mega Latias and take a hit if it hasn't obtained enough boosts.

**Status**: Toxic and paralysis are devastating for Mega Latias and can either put it on a timer, stopping it from sweeping, or nullify its good Speed.

**Special Walls**: Mega Latias struggles against Pokemon with high Special Defense such as Tyranitar or Blissey, since they can shrug off even boosted attacks easily and status it.

- Rename the set to "Bulky Calm Mind (Dragon)" or "Calm Mind Sweeper (Dragon);
- EV spread should be 252 HP / 4 SpD / 252 Spe, as Mega Latias acts as a bulkier CM sweeper. There's almost no damage difference against the targets Mega Latias is supposed to hit, while the extra bulk really helps it out in the matchups it can take on.

[SET COMMENTS]
Moveset Description
- In the first sentence, mention that its BoltBeam coverage allows Mega Latias to be very effective against opposing Flying, Water, Ground, and Dragon teams;
- "To snowball out of control" is a rather vague expression. Instead, say that Calm Mind boosts both Mega Latias's Special Attack and Special Defense stats, enabling it to sweep weakened teams and making it bulkier on the special side;
- Roost also increases Mega Latias's longevity, allowing it to use Calm Mind through the entire match;
- You are lacking descriptions for both Thunderbolt and Ice Beam individually, before mentioning BoltBeam altogether. Since Thunderbolt is listed before Ice Beam, say that "Thunderbolt allows Mega Latias to threaten (x) and (y), therefore making (a) and (b) matchups easier", for example. You need to do the same to Ice Beam;
- "Completely unresisted" is false, regarding BoltBeam's coverage. Word it differently;
- Mention that Mega Latias needs to be used conservatively early-game to heavily damage key threats that are weak to Thunderbolt and Ice Beam, and should only aim to sweep after its checks have been severely weakened;
- Add a sentence saying Latiasite allows Latias to Mega Evolve;
- Edit the EV spread + Nature descriptions to fit the new EV distribution to something like this: "Maximum investment in HP and Speed in tandem with a Timid Nature allows Mega Latias to be as fast as possible, outpacing threats like Landorus and Keldeo while taking advantage of its bulk to set up Calm Mind easier."

Good Teammates
- "To stall out" seems rather exaggerated as a description for Dragalge. Instead, say Toxic Spikes support from it helps wearing down Mega Latias's checks for it to sweep late-game;
- Mesh Dragalge's neutrality to Fairy-type attacks in the Toxic Spikes support sentence, and remove it from the Duraludon one. "Dragalge provides Toxic Spikes (....) and can switch into Fairy-type attacks for Mega Latias" is ideal;
- Move the "Hazard support from Duraludon and Garchomp is helpful to weaken the few checks Latias has" sentence here, after Toxic Spikes. Rename "hazard support" to "Stealth Rock support", and say that such support, much like Toxic Spikes, whittles down Mega Latias's checks;
- Remove the entire Duraludon sentence as its more appreciated for its SR support, which you mentioned later on. It is a shaky at best check to Fairies;
- Say that "Latias is walled by the majority of Steel-types, therefore teammates that can defeat Steel types such as (....) are also very helpful". In that section, remove Garchomp (as it's often walled by Celesteela) and add Kommo-o and Hydreigon instead;
- Particularly, mention Kommo-o also forms a sweeping core with Mega Latias by being effective in matchups Mega Latias can't do much, such as Normal and Dark;
- Add Dracovish as a teammate that can tear apart walls such as Porygon2 and Aegislash for Mega Latias;
- Add Latios as a teammate that blows away Stealth Rock for Mega Latias with Defog and also works as the team's speed control method with a Choice Scarf;
- Add Dragonite as a teammate that is able to beat threats to Mega Latias such as Greninja and Gengar thanks to Multiscale and Extreme Speed priority.

Other Options

=============

Dragon (Add the type's name here, before the section!)

- Reflect Type is a really niche, tour tech option; wouldn't mention it here;
- Instead, mention Mega Latias can run a Calm Mind set with Stored Power + Refresh as a more consistent wincon that's able to sweep Normal, Fighting, and Electric easier, but say that Dragon teams really appreciate Mega Latias's BoltBeam coverage and have other ways to deal with said matchups.

Checks and Counters

===================

Dragon (Add the type's name here, before the section!)

- In the "Fairy-types" bullet, say that while Mega Latias's added bulk allows it to live a hit from most Fairy-types, it still gets 2HKOed and cannot do suitable damage to most of them;
- Add "Steel-types" as a bullet, since most (like Ferrothorn, Mega Scizor, and Heatran) are able to just shrug off Mega Latias's hits while crippling it back with status moves or, in Mega Scizor's case, utilizing it as setup fodder;
- Add "Physical Wallbreakers" as a bullet, given most are powerful enough to just power through it if Mega Latias has no Calm Mind boosts;
- In the "Status" bullet, mention Mega Latias instead of just Latias;
- Add "Special Walls" as a bullet, as specially bulky Pokemon like Tyranitar and Blissey can shrug off even Mega Latias's boosted hits easily and can status it in return.

- Mention that Calm Mind allows Latias to deal with Pokemon like Greninja and Mega Diancie after a few boosts, that otherwise threaten Latias
- Mention how max HP helps increase bulk
- Make a mention about its ability and how it helps with entry hazards that are not Stealth Rock and ground type attacks

- Add Hydreigon as a teammate option, helps in Steel and Ghost matchups that Latias can usually struggle in
- Add examples of Dark- and Steel-types that Kommo-o helps against and remove the mention about Flash Cannon and Poison Jab since they're niche picks and not common at all
