Latias (Placeholder)

I have been testing out a new set and it works wonders if you can eliminate steel types.
The set I have been using is a mono-attack set:

Latias@Leftovers
Nature: Timid
-Calm Mind
-Recover
-Refresh
-Dragon Pulse
Evs: 252 HP / 4 SpA / 252 Speed

Didn't that set made runs back in 4th Gen?

Man, the only thing holding me from using Latias is, suprise, suprise, Latios himself. She runs all of the above sets well, but with "Los" currently usable, he pretty much outclasses her for any offensive sets.

Shouldn't the Choice sets be merged since they are pretty much the same with no slashes for Modest on any of them?

I actually think it's the opposite. Pretty much all of those sets are run better by Latias due to her bulk. The only sets that are done better by Latios are: Specs (sheer power)
Dual Screens (Memento)
Scarf (pretty much the same thing with more power)

Even then, Latias still has some use when using the above the 3 sets.

Latias/Latios user here, I do think Latias should keep some of the "Latios-only" sets. The 130 Special Defense stat deceptively differentiates Latias from her brother (switching into things like Heatran Fire Blast), and she can actually run some of the sets just as well with already wonderful Special Attack. 110 Special Attack IS already strong, and 130 Special Defense (along with better bulk in general) keeps Latias alive surprisingly longer (Like CM and Life Orb).

The sets I think Latias should be able to perform with Latios in mind are: Offensive Calm Mind, Defensive Calm Mind, Choice Specs, Choice Scarf, Life Orb + Three Attacks, Substute + Calm Mind, Support, and possibly Dual Screen. Yes, I know, LAtios can do a more clean job as some of these to an offensive extent. Again, greater bulk is deceptive and convenient.

Also, should Latias be Wish support? I think a defensive spread (Physically or Specially) keeps many Special attackers in check with a status move, Dragon Pulse/Draco Meteor, Wish, and Protect. This has a bit of competition with Blissey though, but this is for the more offensive/balanced teams who want to maintain an offensive presence.

K, so I'm bumping this because I've had immense success with a variant of the Defensive Calm Mind set, and I want to see what others have to say.

[SET]
name: CM + Roar
move 1: Calm Mind
move 2: Roar
move 3: Recover
move 4: Dragon Pulse
item: Leftovers
nature: Calm
evs: 252 HP / 4 SpA / 252 SpD

This set almost single handidly destroys Rain teams, is a fantastic first-time phazer/counter to any Rankurusu, is still offensive enough to scare shit, utterly walls anything that uses special attacks in general, and because Latias is so fast, she will usually phaze phazers with Roar before they can with their phazing move (such as Skarmory and Suicune).

It is very Tyranitar and Fighting-type weak (Roopushin and Zuruzukin in particular), and it also has no way to defeat Chansey/Blissey and Nattorei other than constantly Roaring them (though Nattorei can be defeated if Latias can get enough boosts under her belt), and is very Toxic weak.

Thoughts?

@ Oglemi:

If you want to invest in anything other than speed, you should probably use Max HP/Max Def Bold. This spread allows it to comfortably live almost every physical attack, including Scarf Garchomp's Dragon Claw (and can even survive its Outrage at full health). I see no reason to invest so much in special defense when Latias is already boosting it to outstanding levels with Calm Mind. Plus, it is not so necessary to counter swift swimmers like Ludicolo anymore now that you are not allowed to use both swift swim and drizzle on the same team.

The Special Defense is for Draco Meteors from all of the Dragons instead of Outrage, which is more useful as Draco Meteor lowers their Special Attack and Latias can then Recover off the damage, and then continue to Calm Mind without interruption. With max Special Defense Latias also only takes ~45% from +1 Rankurusu, Espeon, and Alakazam's Shadow Ball without any boosts, as well as comfortably tank Shanderra's Shadow Ball at +1, something the current spread cannot do.
