Arena - Medali's Treasure Eatery
"The Treasure Eatery in Medali may be the location of a Gym, but it's first and foremost a restaurant, and a pretty famous one at that. With so many plates full of wonders going in front of you, it would be a crime to start your battle with an empty belly. You may find yourself stuffed to the brim afterwards, though it's said to be good for vitality."
  • Each Pokemon species has 100 maximum HP, instead of their usual amount.
  • Camouflage's type is Normal.
  • Secret Power's effect causes the user to consume each Berry the defender is holding, if any.
  • Nature Power calls Order Up.

Species:
Escavalier, Gender: Male
Level: 2, EXP: 0 / 10
Nature: Bashful (No effect)
Typing: Bug / Steel
Abilities: Swarm / Shell Armor / (Unlocked) Overcoat
Profile:
Lance loves getting compliments about his strength or his thick armor or just about anything, really. He can be cheerful or serious depending on his mood, but he can also be naive about many things. He likes to keep his armor nice and clean and his arms nice and sharp. When challenged to a battle, he will always happily accept.

How They Met:
Lance was found stuck to Bub one day (darn Magnet Pull), so Doduodrio had to help free him. It turned out that Rook and Lance had actually sparred together a really long time ago, so Rook invited Lance to join the team!

Name Origins:
Escavalier looks like it's ready to go jousting at a medieval tournament for knights! This reminded me of Lancelot from the King Arthur stories. I just shortened Lancelot to Lance.

Bub

Species:
Probopass, Gender: Male
Level: 2, EXP: 0 / 10
Nature: Quirky (No change)
Typing: Rock / Steel
Abilities: Sturdy / Magnet Pull / (Unlocked) Sand Force
Profile:
Nothing escapes Bub. His ever-watchful gaze paired with his three mini-noses always on the lookout proves to be useful in battle. He never speaks, never eats, and never sleeps, so his presence makes some of Doduodrio's Pokemon nervous. His Magnet Pull ability has gotten Bub into endless trouble, clinging to other wild Pokemon and generally attracting a whole ton of metal objects. Staples, water bottles, utensils, even electronics have gone missing only to be found stuck onto Bub. He doesn't seem to mind, though.

How They Met:
An enigma, nobody really knows much about Bub. He just showed up one day out of the blue in Doduodrio's backyard, levitating in place without a word. Even to this day, he still hasn't said a thing...

Name Origins:
Probopass reminded me of the pig head from the Lord of the Flies, Beezlebub. Maybe because of the mini-noses. So, Bub is a shortened version of Beezlebub.

Valerie

Species:
Gardevoir, Gender: Female
Level: 4, EXP: ---
Nature: Bold (+2 Def, -1 Atk)
Typing: Psychic / Fairy
Abilities: Synchronize / Trace / (Unlocked) Telepathy
Advanced Techniques: None
Profile:
Valerie loves to dance, always twirling and humming an ancient melody from some faraway land. She always maintains her composure (most of the time at least) and speaks in a refined manner, following some strict code of behavior.

How They Met:
Valerie descended from a long line of seers, but she always preferred to dance rather than tell fortunes. She enjoys the occasional battle, as long as it involves some sort of dancing, which is why she sometimes teams up with Doduodrio.

Name Origins:
Valerie is the name of the Fairy-type Gym Leader from Pokemon X and Y. Also, Valerie sounds a lot like ballerina which I think Gardevoir is based on.

:SS/Golisopod:
Gilgamesh

Species:
Golisopod, Gender: Male
Level: 3, EXP: 0 / 10
Nature: Careful (+SpD, -SpA)
Typing: Bug / Water
Abilities: Emergency Exit
Profile:
Gilgamesh is in a constant state of meditation and zen, with the help of Julie, in order to keep his inner rage from bursting out and causing him to go on a rampage. As a Wimpod, Gilgamesh was (understandably) terrified of everything. He was also often picked on because of how weak he was. So, when he finally evolved into a Golisopod, the extreme change caused him to then be angry at everything around him and to want to take revenge on those that hurt him in the past.

How They Met:
Gilgamesh would have lashed out and hurt many innocent Pokemon if it weren't for Julie who intervened and then taught him about mindfulness and meditation. She helped him find peace, and Gilgamesh is a lot happier now than he was when he first evolved.

Name Origins:
Gilgamesh was a legendary hero in Mesopotamian mythology. I liked the name and it felt like it was quite fitting for a super strong armored bug.

Garchomp, Gender: Male
Level: 3, EXP: 0 / 10
Nature: Jolly (+15% Spe, +10% Acc, -SpA)
Typing: Dragon / Ground
Abilities: Sand Veil / (Unlocked) Rough Skin
Profile:
Dozer is always constantly, well, dozing off. Nobody really knows why, since he's also almost always seen napping. It's almost as if he has the Comatose ability! To complement his habit of nodding off, Dozer has a laid-back personality and is the type of person to be indifferent when you ask them to make a choice between options.

How They Met:
Dozer was found conked out in Doduodrio's backyard. Efforts to wake him up failed, so he was just left there. He occasionally wakes up to look for food or to ask what day of the week it is.

Name Origins:
Dozer came from bulldozer and also from Dozer's personality.

Oona

Species:
Clefable, Gender: Female
Level: 3, EXP: 0 / 10
Nature: Bold (+Def, -Atk)
Typing: Fairy
Abilities: Cute Charm / Magic Guard / (Unlocked) Unaware
Profile:
Oona is a ditzy personality, spontaneous, and very much her own person. She's quite clumsy and always knocking things over though. She does what she wants, whenever she wants which can cause issues if she's in battles and just wants to nap. Since she's from the Moon (or so she claims), she doesn't really understand how Earthen culture works and sometimes misinterprets what people say. She gets along really well with Node and Taro since their personalities are very similar.

How They Met:
Entering Doduodrio's home uninvited, Oona made a flashy appearance, going through the locked front door and setting up camp in the basement as if she had always been there. What she does down there is a mystery since she claimed the basement as hers (and barred all from entering), but Oona seemingly gets along with everyone so nobody really bothers her.

Name Origins:
Her name was originally going to be Minnie from Lusamine but I liked Oona (I heard the name before somewhere and I liked how it sounded).

And so we come back here today for another edition of the League! This time, we invite you to treat yourselves to a nice meal. That'll pump up your HP to 100!
Team-wise we see a blend of conservative choices (mostly in Duo's team) and innovation. city's team in particular looks quite off-meta, sporting Unown or Ditto alongside a quite scary-looking Light Ball Raichu-Alola. Duo seems to have chosen bulky offense instead, with staples such as Garchomp or Probopass (GT I hope you're watching!), and his maybe-now-signature Golisopod. This will prove to be an interesting clash of playstyles.
Let's now get to the all-important coin toooooooooss!

Coin toss: 1-5000: city | 5001-10000: Duo
3033 ==> city!

cityscapes sends out and equips
Doduodrio sends out, equips, and orders
cityscapes orders
Let's roll!

1685927298287.png

"Oh, no! It's one of the Old Ones!"

Sending out :escavalier: Lance the Escavalier holding a :muscle band: Muscle Band!

:bw/escavalier:
"Don't worry, I'll spear that Unown straight through!"

Megahorn - Megahorn - Megahorn
IF Unown is to use a Special Attack-raising move, THEN use Swords Dance
Only once, IF Unown is to use a Sleep-inflicting move, THEN use Protect
IF Unown is under Protection, THEN use Agility
IF Megahorn is Sealed, THEN use X-Scissor

What an explosive first round! city hits all pegs with Unown as she lays down a devastating one-round KO, though Unown burned its combo counter and a lot of energy to do so. How will Duo answer this lethal blow?

sorry about my pokemon. it isn't very tied to this world.

I see you.

This round ends up with both fresh contestants being neck and neck in terms of numbers! However, city is basically an entire mon up, so she benefits from this state of things more!
That said, Zekrom's burst of damage was quite dependant of its combo token. With that out of the way, hitting Probopass for meaningful damage might be harder than expected... Not that Probopass itself is much of an offensive behemoth either.

Both Pokémon simply traded blows this turn, but Zekrom showcases how powerful it is when even puny Rock Smashes deal impressive damage to Probopass! I'm afraid the noose is tightening around Duo's neck... Is there a play to be made for salvation?
