Thrown into a pocket dimension left over from the Harvest, you can reach out to a few floating orbs in the shape of candy. But... huh? They don't do anything, and won't open? Try throwing them at your opponent... Oh, that worked. Oh hey, isn't it time for a celebration anyway? Quick, trade gifts and enjoy your time!
When sending in your team and backpack, select two of the following gifts to give to your opponent.
(No, the exact wording does not mean that your opponent's opponent, i.e. you, receive the buffs. Thank you to the BBP sickos out there for making me preemptively clarify this.)
    • When giving this gift, select one of the following sets of core stats. Every Pokemon on your opponent's team has a rank of at least 10 in the selected stats.
(This gift can be given once per selected set of stats.)
      • Attack
      • Special Attack
      • Defenses: Both Defense and Special Defense
    • When giving this gift, select one of the below sets of moves. Every Pokemon on your opponent's team knows all of those moves.
(This gift can be given once per selected set of moves.)
      • Clean-Up: Rapid Spin, Defog, Safeguard, Light Screen, Reflect, Taunt
      • Match-Up: U-turn, Volt Switch, Teleport, Whirlwind, Dragon Tail, Circle Throw
      • Hazards: Spikes, Stealth Rock, Sticky Web
    • Every Pokemon on your opponent's team has at least 110 maximum HP.
    • Your opponent's Pokemon have a base substitution limit of 5.
  • Example: You could gift your opponent the Defenses Ranks and the Special Attack Rank gifts, the Clean-Up and Hazard gifts, or the HP + Attack Rank gifts. Any two different gifts are a valid combination.

Ability - Pressure: The Pokemon's mere presence inspires a sense of dread in anyone opposing them. While an opponent is performing an action that targets the user: Raise that action's Energy Cost by two (2). While the user is being attacked, by an attacker with less remaining Energy than the user: Give that attack a power penalty of one (1).
Hidden Ability - Pickpocket: The Pokemon's cunning and sleight of hand allows them to easily steal a foe's item. The user can hold any number of items not owned by trainers in the user's team, in addition to their other held items. When equipping items to the user in a send-out post, you may also equip them with one item from an opponent's backpack. Note those items as the user's "Contraband". (And un-note any prior Contraband.) Opponents can't equip copies of the user's Contraband item to their Pokemon. When the user leaves play: Restore all of the user's destroyed Contraband, then return all of the user's Contraband to their owners' backpacks.

We're here for this festive fifth edition of League Circuit! We have two relative newcomers taking the field! Keriel is certainly enjoying the Special Attack gift, having a wide array of special attackers, including Kyurem... and Unown. Dreaded, terrifying, level 1 Unown, but it's not a secret that it does not need more to function properly (and now it gets 10 SpA... that's actually scary!). On the other hand, Snarg has brought unorthodox moves, unfortunately not being given any stat boosts... I am most intrigued by Exp Share and Hondew Berry, hopefully we'll see some novel strategies develop!
Without further ado... coinflip it is!

Coin toss: 1-5000: Keriel | 5001-10000: Snarguffle
rolled 8048 ==> Snarguffle!

Snarguffle sends out and equips (on the 3rd and not before!)
Keriel sends out, equips and orders
Snarguffle orders
I get this party started

"Looks like we're in the big leagues now! Mistral, let's show what we're made of!"
(Sending in :weavile:Mistral[Weavile] with :choice band:Choice Band. Also equipping :eject button:Eject Button from Keriel's backpack. Also equipping :exp share:Exp. Share to :flygon:Bahamut[Flygon].)

:mismagius: These - holy days, you all keep - are such an interesting tradition.
:ss/ninetales-alola: :lucky egg: But you should leave the winter to my kind.

Dazzling Gleam ~ Draining Kiss ~ Dazzling Gleam.
If Weavile is to use Fake Out, use Protect and push back the first instance..
If Weavile is to use a Protective move, use Nasty Plot the first instance, Calm Mind the second instance, and Chill the third instance, pushing back each time.
If the weather is Sun, use Summon Snow and push back.
If able, use Moonblast and push back.

It's an icy duel that starts us off with Weavile staring down Alolan Ninetales! Astuciously equipping both a Choice Band for immediate pressure and Keriel's own Eject Button to hopefully get a better matchup going forward! Ninetales is a scary opponent though, able to fire down Moonblasts and neutralizing Weavile's Choice Band with Lucky Egg! In the end Weavile has to spend a Fake Out and its combo token to escape relatively unscathed. Who will replace it as it returns to Snarguffle?

We see a defensive second order round from Keriel, who takes the time to set up rocks (SO cursed...) and dodge an incoming move, but ends up being poisoned and is low on EN as a result. Without the Lucky Egg, I'd say that Ninetales-A is in an actually better position with 8 Def and 10 SpA, but those Sniper crits are no joke! Look at how they boosted the damage of an unfortunate 2-roll move!
What will our favorite mage do next turn, and how will our underdog respond? Oh, how exciting!

The problem when you rely on items to increase your power is that Embargo is an annoying move to face, as Weavile soon discovers. Barely able to heal, it quickly falls to rocks and three Night Shades. Snarguffle is now on the backfoot, down one mon and then some, as Beedrill cannot come in safely any more... Is this match already over?
