[SET COMMENTS]

Ledian has always been looked down upon for its bad typing, poor offense, terrible HP and Defense, and having sets that can be used better by another Pokemon. Without a doubt, it’s a bad Pokemon but the last reason on the list is not true. This set is one set that Ledian can pull off without being outclassed and it does it well. This set focuses on what Ledian can do and brings out its full potential with Ledian’s usable Speed and movepool. What makes this set work is Ledian’s notorious penchant as a sub-class Pokemon and the surprise factor as a suicide anti-lead against three huge OU leads: Azelf, Swampert, and Metagross. This Ledian doesn’t really work against UU leads but you can certainly try.

Bug Buzz is the only thing Ledian has to arm itself. Think of Ledian as the kid in a zombie movie with a pistol. He's not much to be feared but he can take something out every now and then. Knock Off is great for getting rid of items, like Life Orb and Leftovers. Encore keeps Stealth Rock users stuck on Stealth Rock. Fling is for paralysis, preferably paralysis for switch-ins (Swampert can be paralyzed by a Light Ball). You can use the Flame Orb or Toxic Orb but you better throw it on the first turn. Ledian isn’t meant to last long so those two items might be taken into consideration. Toxic Orb isn’t recommended because you can only use it once and, though it misses, the move Toxic is a better option.

The first EV set is basic to ensure Metagross won’t take you out with a critical Bullet Punch. Ledian won’t last long so HP isn’t all that important so you might want to consider the second set. The second set of EVs is meant to deal heavy damage on Azelf. It’s enough to OHKO Azelf but they all hold Focus Sashes. With the Focus Sash gone (explained in Additional Comments), the second EV set is necessary to take it out. Maxed Speed is always important because it’s the switch-ins you’ll want to out-speed (and use Knock Off/Fling on), not the leads themselves. For sure, you’ll out-speed Metagross and Swampert, and for sure, you can’t out-speed Azelf.

[Additional Comments]

This set is purely situational; however, the situations are common due to the large numbers of people using Azelf, Swampert, and Metagross. Ledian cannot stop Aerodactyl. Aerodactyl will likely go for a Rock Slide and wipe out Ledian immediately, making a dead weight on your team. How to fight these leads is like using a recipe book, with a bit of prediction (depending on each situation).

First off, to get rid of Azelf, you should use Fling on the first turn, paralyzing Azelf. Azelf will be faster so it will either set up Stealth Rock or Taunt you. Just in case it uses Taunt, it’s better not to use Encore. Once it’s paralyzed, you can Encore (if it used Stealth Rock) or you can use Bug Buzz for a kill. Then, you can use Knock Off on the switch-in and attack until Ledian falls. The prediction here is the opponent might not want to sacrifice Azelf and would switch instead. Instead of using Bug Buzz, you might want to use Knock Off, just in case.

Swampert is the easiest to deal with of the three. First turn, Knock Off his Leftovers. Swampert will always use Stealth Rock so you’ll want to use Encore on the second turn. Swampert is going to want to switch because, if the encore ends, Ledian can just use Encore again. Since the switch is almost certain, use Knock Off to get rid of any Leftovers, Life Orb, or Choice items that could be a problem later in the game.

Metagross is quite simple to deal with, as long as it doesn’t get a critical hit Bullet Punch and ruin everything (if you are using second EV set). Since the opponent won’t suspect anything from Ledian, it’ll probably use Stealth Rock instead of Meteor Mash or Thunder Punch so use Knock Off (you’ll be switching in Magnezone so getting rid of the Shuca/Occa Berry won’t be necessary but you don’t want to reveal any of your other moves yet). If it plans to use one of those two attacks on the next turn, Encore to prevent that from happening and do what you did with Swampert. If it uses Bullet Punch, still use Encore. Ledian will survive the hit so switch to Magnezone for a free Metagross kill. You don’t have to worry about Explosion. No one is going to say “My Metagross is worth sacrificing to kill a Ledian.”

There are 5 other Pokemon that get Fling, Encore, and Knock Off: Alakazam, Azumarill, Clefable, Gallade, and Raichu. Azumarill and Clefable are too slow to pull this set off. Raichu works against Azelf but it tempts Swampert and Metagross to use Earthquake. Gallade can be seen as a threat and will be attacked so you’ll be using Encore on an attack. Alakazam is the next best alternative but there is a factor that makes him iffy to use, it involves Azelf. Alakazam is faster than Azelf so it might suspect a Taunt and use U-turn for a free kill.

As successful as this set becomes, it won’t be used too often due to the number of other leads that this set fails to crush. Therefore, Ledian will fly under the radar and work miracles to those who choose this little ladybug on their teams. Even if Ledian reaches the top 50 leads, the majority of the players won’t notice it.

[Not part of the set description]: The set works on the factor of surprise so chances are; (if this gets posted on the main site) most people aren’t going to click on Ledian to look for an OU anti-lead set. To those who do and decide to use Ledian, I hope them the best. This would keep the numbers small and the set working as it should.
