Left 4 Dead (50% off this weekend on Steam!)

It randomly matches you up.
You can play with up to 2 people at your house and match up with 2 more randomly online.
It's really fun actually.

I've been looking forward to this game, but I had expected a lot more.
/complain
1. Lack of weapon variety; I'd really like more of them.

2. No server browser.

*You can get a server browser by using the developer console.

3. Lack to filter modified games.

5. Repetitive gameplay, even with the AID.

6. Two maps in Versus... I find it really annoying how Valve depends on the Source SDK release so that users and modify their own maps and weapons. Versus is extremely fun but I am annoyed how people usually leave when they become the survivors because they always want to play as the infected.

7. noobs that hit you in the back with a shotgun, people that boss the whole team around and won't shut up (teamwork people), people that stray away from the group and die... then I try to go rescue them and die, people that just don't help, and people that screw around with the witch when they don't need to.

I'm hoping the gaming community will help fix these things with modifications like they did to CS:S, TF2, and HL2. (except for #7)

It's still a fun game, it could be better though... I also got a cool new Zoey skin here.

does anyone know if they are going to come with DLC for the 360 version to expand the levels or something like that?

The limited versus mode maps are because the campaigns are just too intense, and they have to tone some parts down first. Dead Air, for example, just has too many horde alerting areas. The modified versions of those maps will eventually be released.

I've never felt let down by lack of gun variety.
I have never thought it to be repetitive.
I do want a server list w/ a filter, though. That would be awesome. I once was playing on a dedicated Versus server that had All Speak on, lol, so I would like to be able to turn that off.

DLC will be awesome :3
Dunno about the 360 getting all the stuff the PC version will get. They didnt do it with TF2, so I guess we'll have to see.

PC version will likely have more content in the long run for free. 360 you'll likely have to pay for any new maps and modes. You also won't have users making maps and mods. If you're playing with randoms, I would pick up another game personally.

Got it yesterday off of steam, literally breathtaking.
Mostly because youre bricking it shouting "OMFG ZOMBIES ARE AFTER ME".
Also, it says 10 weapons, but i think this may be a false claim.
1.Shotgun
2.Pistol
3.Molotov
4.Pipe bomb
5.Uzi
6.Combat shotgun
7.Assult rifle
8.Hunting rifle

Did i miss any?

The gas container? And I just got this yesturday and it is awesome.
Also playing with randoms is alright, I've meet some cool people doing it.

You're missing the Minigun, if that counts in your books. 2nd Pistol might also count rounding it up to 10 without going into Gas Canisters and the likes.

The lack of a server browser is really starting to annoy me, as i keep getting paired with terrible terrible players (people who shoot you, or hang back, or run off to kill one stray zombie and get smokered) or people who dont speak english, which makes the whole co-op thing completely useless
Not to mention all people do is easy/medium mode :/

also nobody needs to know (tbh i didnt until recently but everyone else should too) that once a tank is on fire, you dont need to shoot it, it will die automatically in 30 seconds. All you are doing is wasting ammo and getting closer to him.
people never know this in pubs e_e

Ummm...

Did anyone notice a major framerate drop after the new patch was released today?

I used net_graph 4 to see my FPS and before the patch I would hit the low 40s with everything maxed out during a major panic event but now it drops down to the 20s :pirate:

This is something that's pretty typical with most Valve games ever since the advent of Orange Box (maybe earlier). I think you'll just have to try to get by with either lower settings or lower framerates.

The full update list can be found here.

Anyway, it seems like all of the special infected with the exception of boomer have gotten buffed. They also took out the exploit that made it possible for infected players to spawn bots by switching to spectator and back again.

from what i have heard valve is going to be doing free updates for PC and 360 users. can't remember where i saw that though so don't quote me on it

The biggest thing this update fixed was the Hunterbomb exploit, and the annoying switch teams/kill thing that some griefers did. Though, determined people to kill you, will find a way. Still a big fix :D

The infected got a real nice buff. In general, the normalized damage is nice. Smokers used to do 2 damage, and now do 4. Boomers do the same, and Hunters do 6. I also enjoy the HUD on the infected side. Smokers got the biggest buff, which was really needed since they were really underpowered Pre-Update. Some people have complained about long hunter jumps being harder to land, but I haven't noticed it myself. Boomers still are as good as they were. Tanks seeing the red blur is great, as well as taking less from Auto-Shotties, and not being able to regain control through hitting/throwing rocks at the objects keeps it fair. Plus witches on the path + increased tank spawns helps the infected get the edge on survivors.

Really needed this update.
Now I can't wait for the other versus maps!

Oh, and I really like the idea of the winning team always going first. It hasn't been implemented, and it might not be, but I think it would be a better game if it was.

No.

When you have 4800s, 8800s, and 9800s dipping down to 15-20 FPS during the action when everything is set to high, you know something is wrong.

When people with 7600s and 8500s can't even play during horde rushes while everything is set to low, it looks like crap and it plays like crap.

I get much more FPS playing Crysis on all Medium than playing L4D in a horde.

Wasn't the point of Valve's games to be open to a very large amount of people?

BTW for those not in the know that is on Valve's Steam service.

If anything in this game I wish I had more weapons to work with sometimes, I enjoy variety.

On the Xbox, I have almost all the achievements. I am only 7000 away from Zombie Genocidist (kill 54 595 zombies). We have come down to literally ONE damage standing in our way of the achievment where you take no damage after calling for help, and am 1/4 of my way to passing all the campaigns on expert. Just two of us are doing this, so we have two computers and apparently this makes expert very hard.

Just a question though: Is it actually possible to beat No Mercy on expert? It's so wide open, tanks can just come and rape you.

Edit: rumor has it that springtime will bring updates, word on the servers and musings in interviews by the creators seem to suggest a revolver as a slower but more powerful handgun and perhaps a flamethrower. Rocket launchers are being dismissed as "unreasonable", as a general concensus.

L4D SDK is coming for the PC in spring 2009.

New content will be coming to the PC and 360 in spring 2009 free of charge which will include the new versus maps as well as a new game mode.
