Hey Smogon. This is my first RMT in a while. 4th total. First UU. I've been having a go at some serious UU and laddering attempts and trying my hand at something I haven't done before. A Sunny Day team. It's fun and seems to work well, but I find myself at the mercy of smart balanced teams or Pokes like Hippotas. The team is themed like a movie crew or whatever, as the alt I'm laddering on is named Camera Guy. The names don't really have any significance themselves though. Now let's finish this pointless intro and get onto the team, alright?
Team at a Glance
In Depth:
The Sunny Day-ers(Production Staff!)
Uxie - "The Director" @ Heat Rock
Levitate
Impish, 248 HP, 252 Def, 8 SpD
Stealth Rock
Yawn
Sunny Day
U-Turn
Uxie is my lead and is crucial to the success of this team. He is very reliable at what he does, which is set up Stealth Rock, scare something away with Yawn, and then either set up Sunny Day or scout with U-Turn. He can take a physical hit later on in the game or help phase with Yawn as well. Sleep is very helpful to the team as it allows me to safely bring in my sun abusers and cause switches, both of which are beneficial in keeping with the offensive nature of the team. Uxie serves as a sponge and is good at setting Sunny Day back up late game as well.
Roserade - "The Producer" @ Heat Rock
Natural Cure
Timid, 252 SpA, 252 Spe, 4 SpD
Sunny Day
Solarbeam
Sludge Bomb
Weather Ball
Roserade is the second Sunny Day user. He generally only comes out after Uxie has kicked the bucket. His decent speed, offensive presence, and a couple good resists makes him great for setting Sunny Day up. Solarbeam is a great STAB in the sun and Sludge Bomb is an overall good STAB attack. Weather Ball becomes a 100 bp Fire attack in the sun, which can be nice late game, but I might be changing it to Toxic Spikes or a Hidden Power. It hits Ice Types and does about 37% to Registeel, but other than that, it doesn't really help. I'm also contemplating changing Solarbeam to Leaf Storm, since whenever I bring Roserade in, the sun isn't up half the time. Overall, it's Roserade. Yeah. You know it.
The Sunny Day Abusers(The Actors!)
Houndoom - "The Antagonist" @ Life Orb
Flash Fire
Timid, 252 SpA, 252 Spe, 4 SpD
Nasty Plot
Solarbeam
Fire Blast
Hidden Power Ground
Houndoom may or may not be the best or most traditional Sunny Day user, but he works great and wrecks unprepared teams. He also works as my Chansey destroyer (lol) as the whole team is specially based. A +2 Fire Blast in the sun does 70-90% to Chansey, based on personal experiences, and that is an AMAZING amount to the best special wall in UU. Solarbeam and Fire Blast are both there for sun abuse and Hidden Power Ground is good coverage for opposing fire types. There's not much to say for Houndoom, however, as he has no purpose other than putting out damage.
Exeggutor - "Show Stopper" @ Life Orb
Chlorophyll
Modest, 252 SpA, 252 Spe, 4 Def
Sleep Powder
Solarbeam
Psychic
Explosion
Exeggutor is surprisingly the only Pokemon who gets a "direct" boost from the sunlight. Solarbeam and Psychic are two high powered STABs coming off of 125 SpA and a fire attack isn't really needed since 3 of my other Pokes can use fire. Sleep Powder helps break down the opposing team by putting a stop to any counters and Explosion does much the same, except by sacrificing Exeggutor himself. As you can see by this point, every Poke just keeps with the offensive nature of the team and that is the name of the game. Damage, damage, damage.
Typhlosion - "The Protagonist" @ Choice Scarf
Blaze
Modest, 252 SpA, 252 Spe, 4 SpD
Eruption
Fire Blast
Solarbeam
Hidden Power Ice
Typhlosion is the most destructive member of the team, hence why he is called "The Main Character" (The Protagonist since TMC doesn't fit :( ). 448 Speed outspeeds the entire tier outside enemy scarfers and Eruption in the sun lays waste to anything that doesn't resist it. 3hko'ing things that do. Fire Blast serves much the same purpose as Eruption, with just slightly less power. Solarbeam's purpose is obvious by now and Hidden Power Ice was put there to help take care of Altaria, as nothing else on the team can hit it for SE damage. This guy has swept half of people's teams time and time again and is truly a force to be reckoned with. It's surprising that his usage is almost down to the UU/NU drop off point.
And tying the team together...
Blastoise - "Clean Up Crew" @ Leftovers
Torrent
Calm, 252 HP, 124 Def, 136 SpD
Surf
Toxic
Yawn
Rapid Spin
Blastoise is kind of the glue that holds everything together. He provides a couple resists and some bulk to the team, as well as preventing Arcanine and a few other things from completely ruining me. The move set is a little weird but it helps for the team. Toxic helps break down Pokemon like Slowbro and Milotic that love to switch into my fires. Rapid Spin also helps the fires by preventing them from taking 25% damage to Stealth Rock every time they switch in. Yawn forces switches and stops things like DD Feraligatr, and Surf ties it off as a basic STAB attack option. The EVs are weird and could probably use a tweak, but they provide some good bulk. Blastoise can live a +2 Dark Pulse from Houndoom or a basic Thunderbolt from Rotom and do 60% or more back, as an example of his bulk (both do around 50-55%).
Well, that's the team. The RMT wasn't my best work, but I hope it got the point accross. I quickly went to 1400 laddering, but the reason I made this RMT was to help patch up some holes that are preventing me from using this team to beat a lot of the better players. I'm not going to bother doing a threat list as every game is different and almost everything comes down to me killing or being killed, but there are a few things that ruin the team. Some of these are:
Hippotas. A smart Hippo player is a real thorn in my side as I can't easily get rid of it and they can use it to prevent me from doing any real damage to them. A common team set-up involves Hippo, Altaria, Milotic, Registeel, and various other stall type Pokes and makes it very difficult if not impossible to get through the core.
Altaria. I have nothing to get through except Scarf Typhlosion who will be worn down by switching into it repeatedly. Help with this would be appreciated.
Scarf Roserade. It kills my team by 1-2 shotting everything and outspeeding it as well. I guess the quickest fix to this would be to make my Typhlosion Timid, but I don't know how it will affect his power.
Thanks for your time.
