Lights! Camera! ...Sunlight?

Hey Smogon. This is my first RMT in a while. 4th total. First UU. I've been having a go at some serious UU and laddering attempts and trying my hand at something I haven't done before. A Sunny Day team. It's fun and seems to work well, but I find myself at the mercy of smart balanced teams or Pokes like Hippotas. The team is themed like a movie crew or whatever, as the alt I'm laddering on is named Camera Guy. The names don't really have any significance themselves though. Now let's finish this pointless intro and get onto the team, alright?

In Depth:

The Sunny Day-ers(Production Staff!)

uxie.png

Uxie - "The Director" @ Heat Rock
Levitate
Impish, 248 HP, 252 Def, 8 SpD

Stealth Rock
Yawn
Sunny Day
U-Turn

Uxie is my lead and is crucial to the success of this team. He is very reliable at what he does, which is set up Stealth Rock, scare something away with Yawn, and then either set up Sunny Day or scout with U-Turn. He can take a physical hit later on in the game or help phase with Yawn as well. Sleep is very helpful to the team as it allows me to safely bring in my sun abusers and cause switches, both of which are beneficial in keeping with the offensive nature of the team. Uxie serves as a sponge and is good at setting Sunny Day back up late game as well.

roserade.png

Roserade - "The Producer" @ Heat Rock
Natural Cure
Timid, 252 SpA, 252 Spe, 4 SpD

Sunny Day
Solarbeam
Sludge Bomb
Weather Ball

Roserade is the second Sunny Day user. He generally only comes out after Uxie has kicked the bucket. His decent speed, offensive presence, and a couple good resists makes him great for setting Sunny Day up. Solarbeam is a great STAB in the sun and Sludge Bomb is an overall good STAB attack. Weather Ball becomes a 100 bp Fire attack in the sun, which can be nice late game, but I might be changing it to Toxic Spikes or a Hidden Power. It hits Ice Types and does about 37% to Registeel, but other than that, it doesn't really help. I'm also contemplating changing Solarbeam to Leaf Storm, since whenever I bring Roserade in, the sun isn't up half the time. Overall, it's Roserade. Yeah. You know it.

The Sunny Day Abusers(The Actors!)

houndoom.png

Houndoom - "The Antagonist" @ Life Orb
Flash Fire
Timid, 252 SpA, 252 Spe, 4 SpD

Nasty Plot
Solarbeam
Fire Blast
Hidden Power Ground

Houndoom may or may not be the best or most traditional Sunny Day user, but he works great and wrecks unprepared teams. He also works as my Chansey destroyer (lol) as the whole team is specially based. A +2 Fire Blast in the sun does 70-90% to Chansey, based on personal experiences, and that is an AMAZING amount to the best special wall in UU. Solarbeam and Fire Blast are both there for sun abuse and Hidden Power Ground is good coverage for opposing fire types. There's not much to say for Houndoom, however, as he has no purpose other than putting out damage.

exeggutor.png

Exeggutor - "Show Stopper" @ Life Orb
Chlorophyll
Modest, 252 SpA, 252 Spe, 4 Def

Sleep Powder
Solarbeam
Psychic
Explosion

Exeggutor is surprisingly the only Pokemon who gets a "direct" boost from the sunlight. Solarbeam and Psychic are two high powered STABs coming off of 125 SpA and a fire attack isn't really needed since 3 of my other Pokes can use fire. Sleep Powder helps break down the opposing team by putting a stop to any counters and Explosion does much the same, except by sacrificing Exeggutor himself. As you can see by this point, every Poke just keeps with the offensive nature of the team and that is the name of the game. Damage, damage, damage.

typhlosion.png

Typhlosion - "The Protagonist" @ Choice Scarf
Blaze
Modest, 252 SpA, 252 Spe, 4 SpD

Eruption
Fire Blast
Solarbeam
Hidden Power Ice

Typhlosion is the most destructive member of the team, hence why he is called "The Main Character" (The Protagonist since TMC doesn't fit :( ). 448 Speed outspeeds the entire tier outside enemy scarfers and Eruption in the sun lays waste to anything that doesn't resist it. 3hko'ing things that do. Fire Blast serves much the same purpose as Eruption, with just slightly less power. Solarbeam's purpose is obvious by now and Hidden Power Ice was put there to help take care of Altaria, as nothing else on the team can hit it for SE damage. This guy has swept half of people's teams time and time again and is truly a force to be reckoned with. It's surprising that his usage is almost down to the UU/NU drop off point.

And tying the team together...

blastoise.png

Blastoise - "Clean Up Crew" @ Leftovers
Torrent
Calm, 252 HP, 124 Def, 136 SpD

Surf
Toxic
Yawn
Rapid Spin

Blastoise is kind of the glue that holds everything together. He provides a couple resists and some bulk to the team, as well as preventing Arcanine and a few other things from completely ruining me. The move set is a little weird but it helps for the team. Toxic helps break down Pokemon like Slowbro and Milotic that love to switch into my fires. Rapid Spin also helps the fires by preventing them from taking 25% damage to Stealth Rock every time they switch in. Yawn forces switches and stops things like DD Feraligatr, and Surf ties it off as a basic STAB attack option. The EVs are weird and could probably use a tweak, but they provide some good bulk. Blastoise can live a +2 Dark Pulse from Houndoom or a basic Thunderbolt from Rotom and do 60% or more back, as an example of his bulk (both do around 50-55%).

Well, that's the team.
The RMT wasn't my best work, but I hope it got the point accross. I quickly went to 1400 laddering, but the reason I made this RMT was to help patch up some holes that are preventing me from using this team to beat a lot of the better players. I'm not going to bother doing a threat list as every game is different and almost everything comes down to me killing or being killed, but there are a few things that ruin the team. Some of these are:

Hippotas. A smart Hippo player is a real thorn in my side as I can't easily get rid of it and they can use it to prevent me from doing any real damage to them. A common team set-up involves Hippo, Altaria, Milotic, Registeel, and various other stall type Pokes and makes it very difficult if not impossible to get through the core.

Altaria. I have nothing to get through except Scarf Typhlosion who will be worn down by switching into it repeatedly. Help with this would be appreciated.

Scarf Roserade. It kills my team by 1-2 shotting everything and outspeeding it as well. I guess the quickest fix to this would be to make my Typhlosion Timid, but I don't know how it will affect his power.

Thanks for your time.

Hooray for Sun.

Uxie, Exeggutor - OK.

Roserade - Run Leaf Storm over Solarbeam, Sun won't be up when you're the one setting it up. Run Synthesis over Sludge Bomb to keep Roserade alive, you already have Weather Ball for Grass Types.

Houndoom - I have never liked Houndoom as it is easily raped by things faster (especially Dugtrio or even Ambipom). I suggest changing it to a Swords Dance Tangrowth with Power Whip, EQ for Fires, and Rock Slide for Moltres/Altaria.

Typhlosion - Meh, Eruption, but everytime you come in you will take Stealth Rock damage and that hurts Eruption, at 75% Eruption hurts less than Fire Blast. Also, you're wearing a Scarf, which means everytime a counter comes in you have to switch out, gaining more damage from SR. I know you have a spinner but it will be very troublesome. If you don't want it you could run a Victreebel (SD/Leaf Blade/Sucker Punch/Return or HP Fire), but then you'll have too many Grass types and will have to change Roserade to a bulky Fire-Typed Sun Setup, Arcanine is cool for this role.

Blastoise - Surf is weakened under the sun, don't run Surf. I'm not sure what to put there though. Ice Beam for Altaria and Yanmega? There is no use for Yawn on Blastoise, you already have Uxie/Ex for that. Perhaps Protect for toxic stalling? But what I really believe you need is another Sun Setup. Claydol could do it, spinning and setting the sun up, Earthquaking/Powering Fire-types, and Exploding with necessary.

I feel like you need at least one good physical attack so that you arent completely useless against chansey. Maybe Poliwrath instead of Blastoise? He cant spin, but he is just about as bulky and even his weak fighting stab can get through chansey, and probably clefable if you use focus punch.

Exeggutor doesn't want a Modest nature and Explosion. Run Rash if you want to keep the SpA power that you already have though perhaps a Niave nature might be good to outrun Scarfers (I don't really know UU so I can't really comment on that). I have found Shiftry to be a complete beast under the sun, with SD and Sucker Punch, he can sweep without sun too which is a great asset to any team.

What worries me is you don't have any real answer to a RD team, namely that mexican frog thing, Ludicolo. He can OHKO every member of your team barring Uxie (I think, I haven't run the calcs =s). As I said, I don't really know UU so I can't suggest a counter for him.

Yanmega seems to be your biggest threat. He can hit 5/6 of your team for SE. Not to mention most are KOs with the following set:

Yanmega @ Leftovers
Speed Boost
- Substitute
- Bug Buzz
- Air Slash
- HP Ground

Although you won't see that set on every team, it's still a very potent threat. The best way to counter that, in my opinion, is to put a fat blob on your team that can suck up all that damage and status Yanmega back, namely Chansey:

Chansey @ Leftovers
Calm & Natural Cure
252 Def/252 SpD/4 Spe
- Wish
- Protect
- Seismic Toss
- Toxic/Thunder Wave

Wish + Protect to spread some healing throughout your team, mostly to Typhlosion with SR up. Otherwise, it'll be good to keep Uxie and Roserade at high health, so that they can SD again. Besides that, Chansey serves as a Special Attacking sponge, taking up all of Yanmega and P2's attacks. Seismic Toss gives you a little damage to kill off weakened Pokes. Toxic/Thunder Wave is a big toss up. As you have a few sleepers, Toxic and Thunder Wave are both viable due to the fact that they both hurt (a lot.)

Other than that, you seem to have a solid team, but as Crudkip said, Ludicolo also hurts your team and Chansey can also block Ludicolo's attacks. Good luck on fixing up your team.

Changed Solarbeam to Leaf Storm on Roserade and the nature on Exeg like I should've in the first place.

I'm going to try a Shiftry in place of Houndoom and see how it works. It looks like it'll help a good amount.

I may go back and replace Blastoise at some point, but not now. Thanks!

Edit: Shiftry's physical movepool kind of sucks... I don't think I'm going to use him actually. Going to try a Victreebell with Swords Dance, Leaf Blade, Sucker Punch, and probably Sludge Bomb.

You could also try Tangrowth. Chlorophyll gives him enough speed to sweep, and besides SpDef he has very good stats.

100 HP
100 Atk
125 Def
110 SpAtk

He also gives you a way of beating Moltres since you can hit him with AncientPower. Looking through your team, most pokes have a combo of Grass / Fire and Moltres will laugh at most of these and will enjoy taking advantage of your Sun.

EQ / Power Whip / HP Fire / Ancient Power gives you great coverage. You could also use Sleep Powder, but really you shouldn't need it if you keep the offensive tempo up.

Chansey wouldn't be a necessity. Maybe the similar-ish Clefable set? At least you wouldn't have to worry about Spikes or SR. It can also set up Reflect if the Yanmega might be using Reversal, and nail it with Ice Beams. Though a Yanmega's Hypnosis could be a problem.

Instead of Houndoom, maybe you could do some kind of Endure Blaziken set? Just another possibility. :S

EDIT: That might not be that good, as it is weak to Flying moves just like the grassers. :/
