for any smogon users confused by what an "exam week" is and why it's so important:

there are these things that are basically real life versions of battling 101 which are called universities.

they have big team tours that last 15-17 weeks, called classes, and the playoffs for all these team tours happen during a week called the "exam week".
during the exam week, everybody plays a bo1 against the same person, who's called the professor. this is a special type of professor that knows a lot about battling, kind of like Professor Kukui in Alola, except almost as good as BKC/ABR. on top of this, you can't even get your friend to ghost you through the battle like you normally do, because universities are even more serious than smogon is about the no ghosting rule. long story short - you're probably not going to get bolded for this one.

furthermore, the professor gets to set the time for this high-pressure battle completely independently - you don't get any input at all when scheduling. on top of this, if you miss the time for any reason the professor can claim act and will automatically be given the win.

all this matters because if you get an act loss for the battle then the university won't give you your trophy (which is normally called a degree in real life)!

some of you might have known all this this already, but I thought this would be a good opportunity to provide some context for why your r1 opp in a hypothetical GSC LC PU Item Clause Seasonal Classic No Johns No Arena Trap Team Circuit Seasonal Draft Tour might have to be inactive in some scenarios, due to more important responsibilities
