Which reminds me of some of Masuda's notes for DP's themes and scenario

When we no longer kill just to eat, when we we take many lives out of a competitive spirit to make things cheaper, humans must ultimately answer for it.
When animals are slaughtered in large numbers, what can they do?
They're left with no choice but to attack their opponents.
The frightening thing is that if too much damage is suffered, there is no
alternative but terrorism.
When the powerful look down on others, that truth is firmly sealed away.
The same might be said for humans.
Handle your food with respect. Consider it natural that some things are more
expensive than others.
Always be aware that foods like chicken and beef go hand in hand with death.
Such things are important.
Viewpoints and Outlooks from Space
Living things have an antagonistic structure.
If you only think of yourself, you are hostile to everything else.
(most insects, most marine organisms)
If you think of things in terms of kinship, you are hostile to
everything not related by blood. (apes)
If you think of things in terms of groups, you are hostile to
everything outside that group. (elephants, lions)
If you think about things in terms of faith, you are hostile to
everything outside of faith. (humans)
If you think about things in terms of states, you are hostile to
everything outside of said state.
If you think about things in terms of the Earth, you are hostile to
everything other than the Earth.
If you think about things in terms of the galaxy, you are hostile to
everything outside the galaxy.

There's a couple of NPCs, I think both in Survival Area's Pokemon Centre actually, one who says (of multi battles) that "by working together, one plus one could be not just two, but possibly three or four" and one who says "you could change the world in an instant if you wanted! How? Stand on your head." Do appreciate both those little pearls of wisdom.

I like how there hasn't been any new main series Pokémon game releases during this year. It has been nice with a break from the yearly releases since it has allowed me to put more focus on other games, as well as play Pokémon games that already exist, both old and new.

I have played both Sword and Violet again a bit recently, and while doing so, I have once more come to realize how much I like DLC for Pokémon games. Adding more content directly to a game that already exists is something I like a lot since it means I don't have to buy a new game and go through everything again, I can just continue playing from the base game. In addition, I think both of the DLCs really improve the games and make them more fun to play.

I like how the Pokémon games for the Switch have their own graphical style, and how they are different in terms of brightness. I noticed this now when playing Sword and then continuing directly with Violet afterwards. S/S are very bright, while ScaVio are notably darker. I don't prefer one over the other, they have different styles without either of them being better, and I think that's a good thing.

PMD2. Best Pokemon Game ever imo. Easily the one I’ve replayed the most and probably spent the most time on.

Amazing music and the most engrossing story. (Start playing me a music track trom the main story and I’d be able to name where its from within a couple seconds).

I guess the one negative thing you could say is the portrayal of a certain Pokemon as an actual evil villain when canonically it is unaware of the destruction its abilities cause but of course that was inevitable with having a Pokemon villain.

Never grow tired of it. Great game(s).

Would love a remake like the OG ones got.

And also Ranger was ridiculous too (I only got to play the first two)

Gen 4 has GOATed side games. Peak Pokemon.

Going off of this post but in a more positive direction, I find it interesting how few games Unown is in. Annoying as this can be when trying to complete a Pokédex or Living Dex with one of the few non-legendary Pokémon incapable of breeding, I think it really really aids its sense of vague mystery by keeping the games you can catch it very low. The only places it has been catchable is GSC/HGSS' Ruins of Alph; FRLG's Tanoby Ruins; DPPt/BDSP/PLA's Solaceon Ruins, and ORAS' Mirage Caves. Additionally, of those only two of those are encounterable in the main game; Tanoby Ruins is a post-game location you have to solve a puzzle to gain access to, and in ORAS they are only in a single Mirage Cave -- not something exclusive to them (Stantler has been making me tear my hair out for days), but still quite notable imo. It is also the only Pokémon available in their Mirage Cave, and it's located at the very bottom left corner of the map, out of the way of pretty much anything.

In many ways it's the sort of situation Legendaries should ideally have -- they are used extremely sparingly, and seemingly only let up on when absolutely necessary (Gen 3 and 6 aimed to have Pokédexes completed with only games in its own generation), and even THEN made very obscure. When Gen 7 dropped the National Pokédex being a thing and then Gen 8 further dropped every Pokémon being in every game, they stopped appearing entirely outside of of course the new Sinnoh games. I just like that they're allowed to be essentially untouched, you know? It's not obligated to appear in every game and nullify its unique strangeness, like how say Groudon or Dialga has to be in every game now

I think this is also "helped" by them being a one-note gimmick Pokemon. Or, two-note, I guess. They have 28 forms and exactly one now-signature move.

So they're kind of a pain to include in anything because they always have to be a set and they always need "a thing" to put them in even if it's a simple as a random mirage island that only has them spawn. Even in L:A, which had a whole side quest for them, had their iconic location slimmed down to a single room (probably why they had a side quest focus instead).

I strongly suspect that the entire reason they weren't in the Dream World -which did have a few HA-less Pokemon I think- was because you'd basically be burning a trip on Unown World, the World Full of Only Unown, the most worthless pokemon to have in the dream world.

Uxie, Mesprit and Azelf all sleep in different ways that are subtly cute and cool:

Mesprit’s in particular is really adorable to me, it looks like it’s sleeping on its tails while it rests its arms on its stomach. Azelf looks like it’s using its arms as a makeshift pillow. I also like how their tails express their different personalities, with Uxie’s tails being completely down, Mesprit’s being halfway and Azelf’s pointing up like hairs on end.

idk where else to post this but we got confirmation of atsuko nishida designing the pawmi and bellibolt lines (and flittle) and oh my god this womans portfolio is fucking stacked. I'm not even a big fan of her design philosophy, but she knows how to make a design that WILL explode in popularity. this woman knows what the people want and by god she will give it

Atsuko Nishida is absolutely insane and doesn't get nearly enough credit. This is the woman who designed:
-Pikachu(!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!)
-The first form Kanto starters + Charizard and its X Mega form
-Every Eeveelution besides Jolteon and Flareon
-And more

This resume should put her in the same conversation as Walt Disney and Jack Kirby and yet even within the core Pokemon fanbase she isn't brought up that often
MY VINDICATION IS RISING... OVERFLOWING...

A lot of the post gen 1 mons stand out in their generation for one reason or another, often having gimmicks that have real in-game use. I realized recently that I don’t usually like more (common) animalistic quadruped mons but Ninetales has been growing on me. And of the garden variety gens 1-3 grass types, Gloom and Victreebell have always stood out to me. Beedrill is probably my fav early route 3 stage bug too.

I’m playing PWT doubles in White 2 rn and loving it. It’s the exact right difficulty for me: I can win using strategy without having to worry about maximizing EVs or caring about IVs and nature. I’m sure I’d win more consistently if I did, but right now this level of difficulty is enjoyable.

I do try to fix my EVs from leveling up, but if I don’t it’s not a death sentence. That’s what I want out competitive. Not a bunch of “this will exactly 2 hit-ko with a timid nature and 30 IV (for hidden power ice). I let other people worry about those so I can play online.

Also being able to use any reasonably good mon is perfect. I can use Lilligant without worrying if there are better mons for the role.
