The first is obviously what I'm going for. Wish that sp def and sp atk were switched though. Second is better defensively and with a CB can still work ok.
 
Okay folks, I'm going to be better about posting here and answering people's questions from now on. I don't think it's too big a deal though since you all seem to help each other out really well, which is just what I hoped for. Big thanks to all who have answered questions for one another. Anyway, expect a few updates to the chaining guide at some point tonight. Nothing major or anything, since there's not really any information I'm withholding from you. But if you're having trouble understanding the grid, then you may want to check out what I change because it should help. Thanks for all the posts guys, this thread is just how I pictured it, I love it. Happy hunting!

not quite as pro as I was maybe a month ago. I took some time off to work on getting other things done and now I feel a bit rusty. broke my licky chain twice yesterday, and three times today i broke a voltorb chain, once at 33 :-( I never would've done that before...

alas, I may continue voltorb tonight, or just wait for the swarm to come back around as it's not supremely important.
 
This is my patch outline for Route 201 as I was chaining Nidoran(female) and I was following Hen's link which shows where safe patches and where bad patches are. So, if I could get you guys or Hen's corrections for this outline then that would be great. So here it is:

So that's about it, so any help from experienced chainers such as Diesel, Kingbattlus or Hen is greatly appreciated. Other master chainers/good chainers' help is also appreciated:) Thanks for all your help.
 
It's not 4 total steps away from you, it's 4 bushes up or down left or right in a square around you.

Imagine a box around you.
 
Shelcario - You actually picked the right place to start your chain from, but Hen is right, it's not how many steps away from you that defines a 4-away, it's by boxes or layers. Look at the chaining guide for more clarification on that. That means most of the X's to your left and bottom should be changed to safe ones, and some of the nearer S's arent safe.

Thank you for the guide! But yeah it was difficult, I even had one die on me via struggle >.>'. Yeah I came back with a master ball the next time...

Edit: To the poster above, the sp. atk is 1 haha.

Diesel i see that your chaining Flygons. Good Luck with that. I tried it and the sandstorm just killed me sometimes a couldnt see the patches and ran into a bad patch when i tried to reset -_-
BTW IF you get a good one id glady trade alot in my thread for it as flygon is my favorite poke.
 
I've been trying to chain for a long time now, and this is by far the most useful guide I've seen so far. :] Thank you so much! Right now I'm on a chain of 6 Roselia, let's see if I can keep it going...
 
Tri DarkSouls - Make sure you're doing it in the morning so you can see best. But yea, I've tried several times without success. It's much harder than Beldum I think. I'd be happy to trade you one once I get it, especially for that Sneasel!

Thanks Hen for the other grid, so it's just like a box and the direct four aways won't keep your chain going. The ones to your left, right, up and down from you that are 4 away are the bad ones, right Hen?

EDIT: Sorry Hen for making you go through so much trouble it's just that chaining is so hard and now, thanks to you, I think I'm beginning to understand it, so thanks again:)

and for what its worth, im in the middle of chaining togepis, although im not really into it, so i might not finish it right now.
