Teambuilding

I realized the advantages of having control over weather in this metagame, and decided to build around Politoed.

Politoed's electric and grass weaknesses have perfect synergy with Birijion.

Any good rain team needs a good weather abuser to force the opponent to change the weather or get sweeped.

Scizor is here as a constant threat to stall.

Beats Kingdra in all stats bar speed. One of the best sweepers currently.

Stealth rock was needed to score some important KO's, so I invested in Empoleon.

Roles

Satirous (Politoed) (M) @ Leftovers
Trait: Drizzle
EVs: 252 HP / 60 SAtk / 196 SDef
Calm Nature (+SDef, -Atk)
- Encore
- Surf
- Toxic
- Perish Song

Supportoed. If pokemon begin to setup on it, you can use encore, then switch to another pokemon. If you are faster than the pokemon setting up, then you can toxic then perish song. Otherwise, Politoed should best be kept alive to fight for weather. Since this team is not completely based off weather, Politoed is not extremely important. However, its usage is to nullify the opponents abilities such as Sand Throw and Chlorophyll to temporarily stop their sweeps. Perish Song can be used to defeat the last pokemon on the opponents team.

Dominance (Birijion) @ Leftovers
Trait: Justice Heart
EVs: 44 HP / 252 SAtk / 212 Spd
Timid Nature (+Spd, -Atk)
- Calm Mind
- Giga Drain
- Focus Blast
- Hidden Power [Ice]

RAIN

Birijion is a very deadly weapon for those who know how to use it well. Its high special defense and multiple resistances is shadowed by its frail defense. Birijion is mostly a late game sweeper, when all your opponent has left is Special Attackers. This is commonly seen against opposing rain teams. Always switch out on the likes of Latios, Rankurusu, and other possible Psycho Shockers/ Flying attacks. The Sp Attack investment is for reading counters. For example, if I see a Latios coming in which would force me to switch, I would use HP Ice to do a small portion of damage.

Anhydrous (Kingdra) (M) @ Leftovers

Anhydrous (Kingdra) (M) @ Leftovers
Trait: Swift Swim
EVs: 80 HP / 252 SAtk / 176 Spd
Modest Nature (+SAtk, -Atk)
- Surf
- Dragon Pulse
- Substitute
- Clear Smog / Yawn

RAIN

Surf is basic STAB move. Use it on everything which does not resist. Dragon Pulse is for things that resist Surf. Surf is more powerful in the rain than a super effective Dragon Pulse. Clear Smog is for the pokemon which you cannot kill because it has too many boosts, but you can clear the boosts with clear smog. It can also be used against calm mind birijion. Substitute is mainly to block status and leech seed. It can also be used when you predict the opponents switch so you will not have to make reads. Yawn is an alternative to Clear Smog to fend off Nattorei.

Tyrannous (Scizor) (M) @ Leftovers
Trait: Technician
EVs: 232 HP / 60 Atk / 216 SDef
Adamant Nature (+Atk, -SAtk)
- Bug Bite
- Bullet Punch
- Swords Dance
- Roost

SANDSTORM

The idea of covering fire weaknesses with a veil of water really striked me as fancy, especially since Scizors only weakness is Fire. Therefore, a more bulky spread is made possible due to this weakness being covered. There is enough bulk to take 2 Draco Meteors from Scarf Latios and Roost off the damage. Scizor is most important against Sandstorm teams, where Bullet Punch threatens Tyranitar from switching in, and fends off common sandstorm staples against Rain (Latios and Nattorei).
- OHKO'd after a swords dance. Focus Blast will deal around 60%-70% after a calm mind, so you could also roost stall until focus blast misses. Bug Bite does 60-70% without any boosts.
/
- Able to take Draco Meteors for the team. Bug Bite KO's Latios and Latias complemented by a Bullet Punch. You can also set up swords dances.
-
Nattorei is basically SD fodder for Scizor.

Cautious (Latios) (M) @ Life Orb
Trait: Levitate
EVs: 20 HP / 252 SAtk / 236 Spd
Timid Nature (+Spd, -Atk)
- Psycho Shock
- Draco Meteor
- Surf
- Recover

RAIN
Exterminates all the pokemon which it outspeeds, bar Nattorei (switch in Scizor). Psycho shock is for special walls. This Latios outspeeds jolly Garchomp and OHKO's with Draco Meteor and outspeeds Timid Birijion and OHKO with Psycho Shock. Surf is for steel types, taking in the 1.5 boost from the rain. Recover is to restore any life orb damage lost.
-
- OHKO with Psycho Shock.

Empirous (Empoleon) (M) @ Leftovers
Trait: Torrent
EVs: 252 HP / 120 Def / 16 SAtk / 120 SDef
Calm Nature (+SDef, -Atk)
- Stealth Rock
- Surf
- Roar
- Ice Beam

Empoleon's nice typing allows it to setup on SD Scizor, Nattorei, Latios, etc. Surf is to utilize the rain and Empoleons decent Special Attack, while Ice Beam is for hitting Dragons/Flying types. Roar is for those Sp Defensive pokemon who suspect they can set up , or for pokemon who are forced to switch. Empoleon takes Ice hits for the team.
