Lunala currently stands as one of the premier wallbreakers in the tier that can threaten offensive and defensive teams alike. Its access to a strong STAB Moongeist Beam, which hits the majority of the tier for neutral damage and 2HKOes many offensive Pokemon, can be further strengthened by Calm Mind boosts or Lunalium Z. Shadow Shield also contributes to Lunala's recent increase in usage, as this can be very helpful with setting up and checking an offensive threat in an emergency if preserved. Various Pokemon that can remove entry hazards to help Lunala keep its Shadow Shield intact are good partners. Cloyster is a great fit on offensive teams due to Rapid Spin, and Mega Salamence and other support Arceus formes can justify their role as Defog users with relative ease. Many Fairy-types prove to be effective partners to Lunala, as Xerneas and Arceus-Fairy can both deal with Yveltal and Marshadow, which pose serious problems to Lunala. Xerneas can also provide Defog support and benefit from Lunala applying heavy pressure on opposing Steel-types, while Arceus-Fairy can additionally provide Stealth Rock support to pressure Yveltal and Ho-Oh.
