[OVERVIEW]

Lunatone has a unique Rock / Psychic typing, which gives it resistances to types such as Normal and Flying. It also has a great ability in Levitate that gives Lunatone an immunity to Ground-type attacks as well as the ability to dodge Spikes, Toxic Spikes, and Sticky Web. Lunatone carves out a niche in PU as a late-game Rock Polish sweeper that can outspeed threats and some Choice Scarf users such as Rotom-F and Sawsbuck. However, its typing also comes with weaknesses to common types such as Water, Grass, and Dark, leaving it susceptible to priority moves such as Aqua Jet and Sucker Punch and making it harder for Lunatone to set up. It also has a good variety of coverage and support moves at its disposal, although it doesn't have a powerful Rock-type STAB attack and needs a lot of team support to effectively sweep, as Lunatone doesn't hit hard even with Life Orb. It is also outclassed by other Rock-types in the metagame such as Barbaracle and Carracosta. Its mediocre bulk means that any strong attack will put a dent in Lunatone's chances to sweep.

Moves
========

Rock Polish doubles Lunatone's Speed, allowing it to outspeed threats such as Choice Scarf Sawsbuck after a boost. Psychic is Lunatone's strongest STAB move, hitting Poison- and Fighting-types such as Roselia and Poliwrath for great damage. Ancient Power is Lunatone's Rock-type STAB attack, allowing it to hit Fire-, Flying-, and Ice-types such as Rapidash, Dodrio, and Rotom-F super effectively. Earth Power nails Steel-types such as Probopass and Pawniard, which resist Lunatone's dual STAB moves. Baton Pass is an option in the last moveslot, as it enables Lunatone to pivot out of a check or counter into an appropriate teammate while also possibly passing along a Speed boost and bypassing Sucker Punch in the process.

Set Details
========

Maximum Special Attack investment along with a Modest nature allows for maximum damage output. Maximum Speed investment allows Lunatone to outspeed everything up to Choice Scarf Sawsbuck after a Rock Polish boost. Levitate is Lunatone's only ability, providing an immunity to Ground-type attacks as well as Spikes, Toxic Spikes, and Sticky Web. Life Orb is the preferred item on Lunatone, boosting the power of all of its attacks at the cost of some health.

Usage Tips
========

It is best to use Lunatone mid- or late-game when its checks and counters are eliminated or weak enough for Lunatone to take out on its own. Set up Rock Polish on Flying- and Fire-types that Lunatone can force out such as Togetic and Ninetales. Lunatone must also be wary of Pursuit trappers such as Pawniard and Dusknoir as they can deal significant damage to Lunatone. Keep Lunatone as healthy as possible when it attempts to sweep, as poison wears Lunatone down over time, and paralysis puts a damper on its Speed. Avoid attempting to set up in the face of strong physical wallbreakers, as Lunatone doesn't have good Defense. Switch in Lunatone off of a slow Volt Switch, U-turn, or Baton Pass or after a teammate has fainted.

Team Options
========

If Lunatone isn't running Earth Power, Pokemon such as Poliwrath, Torterra, and Magnet Pull Probopass can trap and eliminate Steel-types for Lunatone while also providing Stealth Rock support. Entry hazard support from Pokemon such as Whirlipede, Roselia, and Stunfisk allows Lunatone to get 2HKOs and OHKOs on Regice and Ninetales, respectively, with Ancient Power. Wallbreakers such as Simipour and Chatot can wear down bulkier threats for Lunatone, making it easier for it to come in and clean up. Lunatone also appreciates Memento and Encore support from Pokemon such as Jumpluff to allow Lunatone to set up Rock Polish easier. As Lunatone is frail and easily worn down, Healing Wish support from Mr. Mime can be useful to revive a weakened Lunatone, giving it a second chance to sweep.

[STRATEGY COMMENTS]
Other Options
=============

A specially defensive set is viable, as Lunatone has access to a plethora of support moves at its disposal including Stealth Rock, Moonlight, and Toxic. Lunatone also has access to other coverage moves including Ice Beam, Shadow Ball, Moonblast, and Signal Beam, but it would prefer not to give up any of the listed options. Cosmic Power along with Baton Pass is an option to pass Defense boosts to a teammate over a Speed boost. Calm Mind boosts Lunatone's Special Attack and Special Defense and can be used in conjunction with Baton Pass and Future Sight. A set with Trick Room, Stealth Rock, Explosion, and Magic Coat with a Relaxed nature and a spread of 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SpD can be used as a suicide Trick Room lead, but this is better done by Carbink which has better typing and defenses.

Checks and Counters
===================

**Dark-types**: Dark-types such as Mightyena and Zweilous are immune to Psychic and can take an Ancient Power and OHKO with Crunch. Pawniard can trap Lunatone with Pursuit and OHKO it.

**Specially Defensive Pokemon**: Pokemon such as Lickilicky and Grumpig can take two hits from Lunatone and either retaliate with Knock Off or cripple it with status.

**Steel-types**: If Lunatone is not running Earth Power, Steel-types such as Klang and Probopass resist both of Lunatone's attacks and threaten it with Gear Grind and Flash Cannon, respectively.

**Status**: Toxic wears down Lunatone over the course of a match, whereas paralysis cripples it so slower Pokemon can outspeed and possibly KO it. While Lunatone does not mind being burned, the residual damage wears it down nonetheless, limiting how long Lunatone can last.

**Physical Attackers**: Lunatone has low Defense, so strong physical attackers that can take a hit such as Ursaring, Torterra, and Barbaracle can easily threaten Lunatone.

**Residual Damage**: Lunatone's reliance on Life Orb for maximum damage output combined with Lunatone's susceptibility to priority attacks such as Mightyena's and Pawniard's Sucker Punch and Basculin's and Carracosta's Aqua Jet will cut into its longevity. If these attacks don't KO Lunatone, they certainly will put it in range to be KOed next turn.

Usage Tips
========
I'd add that Ancient Power is is good to be spammed early, to also try to squeeze boosts.
Mention that Lunatone has to be wary about Pursuit trappers.
Mention that Lunatone should set up a Rock Polish especially when against Pokemon that can't do much against it, and ones it forces the switch.
Mention that Lunatone should not take unnecessary damage and get hit by statuses such as paralysis.

Team Options
========
Mention Healing Wish support.
Mention Thunder Wave and Sticky Web support.

Other Options
########
Instead of talking individually of like every possible utility move Lunatone can run, just make a full mention to an utility set, and talk about Moonlight, Toxic, Stealth Rock there.
Mention Cosmic Power along with Baton Pass.

Checks & Counters
########
Mention status, especially paralysis.
Mention that some Dark-types can also Pursuit trap Lunatone.
Mention Strong physical attackers or Pokemon that carry a strong physical move, that can tank at least one hit, as they can bring down Lunatone pretty easily and prevent it to set up.

Implemented.

This is pretty solid so outside of the overview it's mostly nitpicky lol. Not QC blabla.

Overview
########
The overview only lists postives at the moment. I'd mention that Lunatone's typing leaves it open to a lot of priority moves. Especially the Sucker Punch weakness is bad because darkspam is very popular, but Aqua Jet is also annoying. Lunatone also doesn't have an easy time setting up (lots of weaknesses), and, because of its low speed and mediocre bulk Lunatone is also easy to deal with before a Rock Polish boost. Last but not least, the opposing team needs to be worn down a lot before Lunatone can sweep because it actually doesn't hit exceptionally hard.

Moves
========
Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe that the biggest reason why Rock Polish Lunatone is effective is because PU has a hard time dealing with fast Psychics. Therefore, it would make sense that Psychic is listed before Ancient Power. Psychic is also just Lunatone's most powerful and most spammable move. Should also be mentioned that Psychic is the main move Lunatone makes use of to clean up. For Baton Pass you could say that it trolls Sucker Punch users.

Set Details
========
Nitpicky but you don't need to list the 4 Defense EVs as they are just filler.

Usage Tips
========
''Attempt to use Ancient Power early to get extra boosts.'' is kind of misleading. What (I think) Raiza meant is that it can be worth it to just click Ancient Power despite expecting something that resists it coming in, as getting the boosts can end a game very quickly. What you have at the moment is not that bad but if you reword it it would be much more clear. Pawniard and Dusknoir actually don't need Lunatone to be weakened to OHKO with Pursuit.

Team Options
========
Ursaring is a physical wallbreaker and Lunatone a special sweeper. Ursaring might be able to wear down walls but the walls it attracts are usually not what stops Lunatone from sweeping.

Other Options
########
When you mention support moves I would specifically say that if you make use of those moves Lunatone should be made specially defensive. You could also mention offensive without Rock Polish with stuff such as Calm Mind and Future Sight.

Checks & Counters
########
If you're going to mention poison you might as well mention burn too.

Done. Thanks for the help GrimoireGod. If I missed anything, I'll correct it when I get back home.

I actually don't think this set is even good at all (tho it is probably the best lunatone can do outside of *maybe* baton pass) because of the prominence of water types, dark types, and grass types that don't let it set up for shit and stuff that it struggles to break through such as any wall ever because of its shit offensive stats and weak moves

So tone everything down

Alright. I'll water down the analysis when I get home. Should I still keep this set, or mention the specially defensive set as a second set or a main set?

Specially defensive isn't that great, it doesn't wall a lot. This is imo easily the best set Lunatone can use at the moment, no second set needed.

Alright. I'll Lunatone it down a bit when I get home. Analysis does look like I overhyped the mon without listing much of the drawbacks.

remove Haunter mentions and update with new format.

For Usage Tips, I wouldn't suggest spamming Ancient Power on a predicted switch just for the boost chance; unless your other moves or a double switch are not in your best interest (for example, late game when you have already Rock Polished and are predicting a Dark-type or Psychic-type switch in), it is better simply to use it as STAB. Don't want to give the wrong impression.

I don't get why Sticky Web and paralysis support is necessary for a SPEED BOOSTER. Please explain, as I might be missing something.

For Other Options, note Trick Room, Explosion, and Toxic. The best it's got left anyways.

Don't really have much else to say about Lunatone.

Thanks for the check WhiteDMist. I initially had Sticky Web and paralysis support so Lunatone isn't so reliant on Rock Polish to outspeed. I removed it nonetheless.

Analysis has been written and is ready for a third check.

Just a few things:
Overview: 'It is also outclassed by other Psychic- and Rock-types in the tier such as Kadabra, Grumpig, and Golem.'
Are there not better examples? Lunatone is mainly going to receive competition from other sweepers, grumpig and golem especcially have completely different roles

UT: 'Switch Lunatone in on a resisted attack or a predicted Ground-type move and attempt to set up Rock Polish.'
I wouldnt say this as pretty much every ground type has something to screw it (torterra, golem hits it hard w/ rock blast, even stunfisk can para it)

'Try to click Ancient Power early despitr an incoming foe comes in to resist it as the possible boost can end a match quickly'
This is incredibly unreliable and lunatone would rather go for psychic as it is its strongest move

UT should also give examples of pokes lunatone sets up on/mention stuff it forces out

TO: You should name more partners to baton pass rock polish's to, as saying 'ground and fighting types' is a bit general

It is best to use Lunatone is best to use mid- to or this is to avoid a 'mid-to-late-game' scenario, as 'x-to-y' is common but three hyphens are gross late-game when its checks and counters are eliminated or weak enough for Lunatone to take out on it's own. It also has a good variety of coverage and support moves at its disposal, although Lunatone it doesn't have a powerful Rock-type STAB attack, plus it and needs a lot of team support to effectively sweep, (comma) as Lunatone doesn't hit hard even with Life Orb. (all edits in that sentence are optional except the comma) It is also outclassed by other Rock-types in the metagame such as Barbaracle and Carracosta. Its mediocre bulk means that any strong attack will put a dent in Lunatone's chances to sweep.

Moves
========

Ancient Power is Lunatone's Rock-type STAB attack, allowing it to hit Fire-, Flying-, and Ice-types super effectively such as Rapidash, Dodrio, and Rotom-F super effectively. Earth Power nails Steel-types such as Probopass and Pawniard, (comma) which resist Lunatone's dual STAB moves. Baton Pass is an option in the last moveslot, as it enables Lunatone to pivot out of a check or counter into an appropriate teammate, (remove comma) while also possibly passing along a Speed boost and bypassing Sucker Punch in the process.

Set Details
========

Usage Tips
========

It is best to use Lunatone mid- or late-game when its checks and counters are eliminated or weak enough for Lunatone to take out on it's its own. Set up Rock Polish on Flying- and Fire-types that Lunatone can force out, such as Togetic and Ninetales that Lunatone can force out. (ignore edit if "that Lunatone can force out" applies only to Ninetales) Lunatone must also be wary of Pursuit trappers such as Pawniard and Dusknoir, (comma) as they can deal significant damage to Lunatone. Keep Lunatone as healthy as possible when it attempts to sweep, as being poisoned wears Lunatone down over time, while being paralyzed and paralysis puts a damper on its Speed. (optional but improves flow imo) Avoid attempting to set up in the face of strong physical wallbreakers, as Lunatone doesn't have good Defense. Switch in Lunatone off of a slow Volt Switch, U-turn, or Baton Pass, (remove comma) or after a teammate has fainted.

Team Options
========

If Lunatone isn't running Earth Power, Pokemon that can handle Steel-types ("can trap and eliminate Steel-types" is said later in this sentence; if you temporarily ignore the list of examples this sentence said "...Pokemon that can handle Steel-types can trap and eliminate Steel-types for Lunatone", which is a bit redundant) such as Poliwrath, Torterra, and Magnet Pull Probopass can trap and eliminate Steel-types for Lunatone, (remove comma) while also providing Stealth Rock support. Entry hazard support from Pokemon such as Whirlipede, Roselia, and Stunfisk allows Lunatone to get 2HKOs and OHKOs on Regice and Ninetales, (comma) respectively, (comma) with Ancient Power.

Other Options
=============

A set with Trick Room, Stealth Rock, Explosion, and Magic Coat with a Relaxed nature and a spread of with 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SpD can be used as a suicide Trick Room lead, but this is better done by Carbink, (comma) which has better typing and defenses.

Checks and Counters
===================

**Dark-types**: Dark-types such as Mightyena and Zweilous is are immune to Psychic and can take an Ancient Power and OHKO with Crunch. Pawniard can trap Lunatone with Pursuit and OHKO it.

**Specially Defensive Pokemon**: Pokemon such as Lickilicky and Grumpig can take two hits from Lunatone and either retaliate with Knock Off or cripple it with status.

**Steel-types**: If Lunatone is not running Earth Power, Steel-types such as Klang and Probopass resist both of Lunatone's STAB attacks (sorry for being nitpicky, but they resist Lunatone's STAB attacks regardless of whether Lunatone is running Earth Power. there are other solutions here but I'm lazy and picked the fastest one...) and threaten it with Gear Grind and Flash Cannon, respectively.

**Status**: Toxic wears down Lunatone over the course of a match, whereas paralysis cripples it so slower Pokemon can outspeed and possibly KO it. While it Lunatone does not mind being burned, the residual damage wears it down nonetheless, limiting how long Lunatone can last.

**Physical Attackers**: Lunatone has low Defense, so strong physical attackers that can take a hit such as Ursaring, Torterra, and Barbaracle can easily threaten Lunatone.

**Residual Damage**: Lunatone's reliance on Life Orb for maximum damage output, and this combined with Lunatone's susceptibility to priority users attacks such as Mightyena's and Pawniard's Sucker Punch, (remove comma) and Basculin's and Carracosta's Aqua Jet will cut into its longevity. If these attacks don't KO Lunatone, it they certainly will put it in range to be KOed next turn.
