Lure and Absorb [ NU RMT ]

Welcome! I am going to explain the basis of my team, as I highly believe a team this well thought out, should be shared with the general public. Please give me your opinion on the pure synergy this team has, as I absolutely LOVE how well it meshes. ;) This kind of team shows the core of a UU metagame, ( Grass / Fire / Water ) but with a twist, because most of my team actually ABSORBS the incoming attacks, and takes literally NO damage; or in the realms of 3%, which is recovered by Leftovers. A core like this can only be played by someone willing to take their time and SLOWLY killing the opponents entire team.

Here it is; my newest NU team!

The Lead:

028.png

Devious @ Leftovers
Nature: Impish
Evs: 252 HP / 252 Defense / 6 Attack
Moveset:
~Stealth Rocks
~Rapid Spin
~Stone Edge / Toxic
~Earthquake

Sandslash, one of the most standard NU leads in the book. I originally had Amphy in this spot, but he just COULDN'T get the job done. His job is so important to this team, it's not even funny. The ability to FINALLY have some kind of entrance hazards is SO important to this team, as it doesn't let the opponent switch freely as they could before. Having 3 Stealth Rock weak pokemon, and a team destroyed by entry hazards in general, a Rapid Spinner was the smartest answer. Earthquake is an important STAB, and I currently use Toxic over Stone Edge. Not once did Stone Edge help my team, but Toxic sure did. He has quite nice synergy with the rest of the team, and can absorb any terrible Earthquakes if I am scared my Pidgeot won't be able to.

The Fire Absorber, and Wish Passer.
136.png

Pffft... @ Leftovers
Nature: Careful
Evs: 252 HP, 252 Special Defense, 6 Speed
Moveset:
~Toxic
~Wish
~Protect
~Fire Fang

Flareon, the best special wall in the NU game next to Mantine! This is my teams glue, and the bane to MANY of my teams counters. With its Wish passing powers, it can revive the members of my team who lack real recovery ( MANTINE I AM LOOKING AT YOU! D: ) She is the most important team member, as she stops Special Threats in their place; Toxics them, and then proceeds to destroy everything with Wish / Protect spam. This is a very odd variant of the standard Flareon, because I do not use Lava Plume! Instead, I use Fire Fang to counter CM / Sub Espeon! ( Because god that thing is RIDICULOUS. ) My team needs more Physically based attacks anyhow, and Flareons base Attack is much higher then its Base Special attack. ;)

The Water Absorber, and Status Absorber
226.png

Ray Dans @ Leftovers
Nature: Calm
252 HP / 252 Special Defense / 6 Speed
Moveset:
~Rest
~Sleep Talk
~Hidden Power Flying
~Surf

This is your standard Rest Talk Mantine, but is extremely important in my team, due to the fact that Flareon attracts Toxic and Water Attacks like a plague.... It really never can die, and if it dies, the team is in HUGE trouble. More then 90% of the time, someone will immediately switch something in with an Electric attack to counter Mantine, as that is the ONLY way to kill this beast. With this Electric lure, it gives my Quagsire a free switch in!

The Explosion Stopper!
195-f.png

Chanel @ Lum Berry
Nature: Careful
Ability: DAMP
Evs: 252 HP / 4 Atk / 252 SpD
Moveset:
~Curse
~Ice Punch
~Earthquake
~Recover

Oh Quagsire.... This little guy attracts Grass Attacks SO well, its not even funny. It's like a free Ice Punch, seriously.... Anyone who actually tries to use Curse the first turn, is an idiot. xD Chanel is actually here as an Explosion stopper; yes, you heard me right. I do not use Water Absorb on this Quagsire, cause Mantine absorbs my Water Attacks. ;) An Explosion / Selfdestruct at the right time can absolutely RUIN this team, so I HAD to have a counter to it that wasn't a Ghost type ( Due to Ghost types having such terrible Synergy, sorry! :P ) His main use is to lure Grass Attacks out for:

The Grass Absorber, and Leech Seeder.
045-f.png

Vileplume @ Leftovers ( Not nick-nameable with hacking... )
Nature: Bold
Evs: 244 HP / 136 Def / 128 SpD
Moveset:
~Substitute
~Hidden Power Ice 70
~Sludge Bomb
~Leech Seed

This Vileplume is just SO much fun to play with. It has a severe survival problem ( And I may test Protect in this build over Hidden Power Ice... ) even WITH Leech Seed, but it's really quite a fun Pokemon to play. She acts like the Venusaur of NU, and lures in Fire Attacks for my Flareon to absorb without any problems, giving her a free Flash Fire boost. These Vileplumes are SO rare to see over Wi-fi, that nobody ever expects one. If I EVER see one that isn't mine, I immediately ask to see it in a trade, to see if it's hacked. 99% of the time, it is. XD

The Random Earthquake Queen!
018.png

Pidgeot @ Leftovers ( I really gotta nickname this thing, any ideas? :P )
Nature: Timid
EVs: 252 HP, 252 Speed, 6 Defense
Moveset:
~Toxic
~Air Slash
~Roost
~Featherdance

This is the most UNEXPECTED Pidgeot on the PLANET. If Rhydon or Sandslash think it can switch in and ruin my Flareon's and Mantines fun, this girl comes in, and Featherdances them to death. YES, FEATHERDANCE. Do you know how many switches this thing can force? It's just epic. Believe it or not, even Life Orb / Choice Band Medicham HATES this pokemon, and he is the strongest pokemon in NU. Since he fears an Air Slash, I generally will Featherdance on the first turn, to screw over whatever switches in, and Rotate between Roost and Featherdance. In some cases, I just straight up Air Slash them... depends how cocky I am. :P Most will switch out instantly, in fear of a Scarfed Air Slash. The main use of this Pidgeot is to combat Physical Sweepers, stop them in their tracks, and Poison their switch in; then recover off all the damage. I play her with a very offensive pressence, and she always excels at her job. Gotta love her. <3

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Please rate my team! I'd highly appreciate anything you can think of, that you think can better the teams pure synergy with itself. :) After adding Sandslash to the team, it's been working WONDERFULLY. SO much easier to destroy teams now! I highly appreciate the suggestion!

Thanks for reading! I hope the team gets rated! :)

Hey, admittedly I don't play NU myself but I have a few thoughts on the team.

Definitely try Sandslash out - you have 3 SR weak pokemon, one of which is your Special Wall. Moreover, with your team's basis you're going to be switching a lot, so you pretty much need Rapid Spin to save yourself a ton of residual damage. The electric immunity it provides for Mantine would be nice too.

I really have no idea about standard NU leads, but it seems to me that a Lum Berry may serve your Amphy better than Lefties as it is right now.

Depending on how reliant the rest of your team is on wish support, consider putting baton pass on Flareon to be able to tank a hit before getting the pass off, but due to having protect you may be able to feign it and switch as they try to use the free turn.

I question the usefulness of Damp on Quaggy purely because Explosions can be pretty hard to predict, but the choice is yours.

Also, just to question what you said in your Pigeot description, a Rhydon takes no more than 38% from air slash after featherdance, and Sandslash 64%. Slash then hits you for 68-81% aand Rhydon KOs easily with SE. So I can't see it being an effective trap for its counters, especially Rock typed ones. You may want HP ground to help you deal with these.

Finally, I would include the EV spreads for all your pokemon, it's required and is very annoying to have to look up a spread when doing someone a favour by rating their team. Hope I've helped anyway, and gl.

On the EV spreads, most certainly. I will get to them immediately.

On Pidgeot, I do not Air Slash Sandslash; I Featherdance him, which is the opposite of a Sword Dance, if you were unaware. Here is the calculations:

Honestly, I have absolutely nothing to counter Rhydon with besides Vileplume. Pidgeot cannot take a Stone Edge from a Rhydon, at all; even with the -2.

After that, Sandslash is forced to switch, and I get a free Toxic / Roost. ;)

I am most certainly considering Sandslash. I already use Quagsire as my Electric immunity, but I could always use another. ;)

Thanks immensely for rating my team. I will get those EV spreads up shortly.

Yeah, I know Featherdance = 2x SpDef decrease, I factored that into the numbers in my last post.

Rhydon will be KOing you after shrugging off the first Air Slash hit, and Sandslash will also KO you if it has a rock move (if it switches into you it most likely does), meaning you can only get one hit on both before Pigeot dies, so I'm not sure it should stay in on them, ever.

Sorry, I had a brain fart and didn't remember Quaggy's Electric immunity. Still, another can't hurt ;D. Sandslash does seem like it'll work in your team, so I still recommend it.

EDIT: on a side note, you inspired me to try a Special Wall Flareon and it works fantastically, so thanks :D

Featherdance causes Sandslashes Stone Edge to do 25% to me, ( Super Effective )

Yes, Rhydon absolutely slaughters her, no doubt. I miss-calculated Rhydon, but Sandslash is no threat whatsoever.

And you are welcome! I love Special Wall Flareon myself, and she is just utterly brilliant. <3

Still looking for others to rate my team! Thanks!

I'm kind of lost as to how you answer just about any of the metagames major threats. For example Substitue/Calm Mind/Psychic/HP Ground Espeon sets up on every single member of your team except Quagsire, and can easily get multiple boosts off of Vileplume or Pidgeot or Mantine. Tehere are a lot of other threats that seem to give your threats huge problems (Mixed Mortar, LOCham, CB Dodrio, SubPunch Kangaskhan, none of them are as bad as SubCM Espeon, but still.) A threat list would help out abit here. :o

That's very true, I do have problems with specifically what you listed.

CB Kang is a force to be reckoned with, end of story. My best bet, in that case, would be to Featherdance him with Pidgeot, and then GTFO. Not a clean cut idea, but then again, you are suppose to be suggesting changes to fix the things that threaten my team! :P

I am no idiot when it comes to Espeon. When I see Espeon, I go IMMEDIATELY to Flareon, and it either attacks, or substitutes. If it Subs, I break its sub down with Fire Fang, and proceed to SPAM Fire Fang at it, healing as needed. Do you think Whirlwind on Mantine would fix this problem? ( That would be unexpected, no doubt. )

MixMotar is an issue with nearly every NU team... In my case, if it doesn't carry Hidden Power Grass, Quagsire checks it fine, as it switches in for free on a predicted Thunderbolt, and then proceeds to Earthquake Magmotar. If it does carry HP Grass, Flareon walls it into eternity.

CB Dudrio I have never once fought against. I do see it wrecking havoc with Brave Bird spam, as that basically breaks down my walls single handedly. I'ts kind of in the same boat as Kangaskhan, just a lot frailer.

I have never once came across a LO Cham either. That would be worn down so fast through Toxic / Leech Seed / Prediction it wouldn't be funny. I am pretty good when it comes to predicting which moves are going to be thrown where; but if the battler is smart, and trys to out-predict me, I can certainly see LO Cham giving me issues. He is the most powerful pokemon in the NU environment, after all. ( Medicham, that is. )

Thanks for taking the time to look over my team. ^^ I'd be happy to take any suggestions you have. :D

I think you misread what he said, Featherdance lowers the opponent's Attack two stages.

Lmao ah, I'm an idiot XD.

In that case, the damage you do to them with air slash will be even more paltry, enabling them to stay in and keep hitting you. It may work reasonably well, better than I thought initially, though.

Oh yes. Throw a Featherdance, then Toxic him ( If he stays in ) and then Roost. Pretty simple. ;) Works a lot better then most expect.

Going to update my team real quick.
