Tbh, I find offensive audino a much better lure for the DD set, because it generally uses the wish variant as set-up bait to sweep. Still nabs that sweet ass 2hko on the def variant that can set-up sr on it.
252+ SpA Audino Surf vs. 252 HP / 240 SpD Eviolite Rhydon: 224-268 (54.1 - 64.7%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
Pretty standard lure that works well on Normal Spam to clear the way for something like Swellow or Tauros. Aqua Tail manages to 2HKO compared to Earthquake which is only a 4HKO.
252+ Atk Kangaskhan Aqua Tail vs. 252 HP / 0 Def Eviolite Rhydon: 200-236 (48.3 - 57%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Stealth Rock
Garbodor is not only known for its defensive capabilities but also for its ability to lure stuff with its surprisingly decent special movepool. If you manage to pin it down on the switch, the kill is yours.
252 SpA Life Orb Garbodor Giga Drain vs. 252 HP / 240 SpD Eviolite Rhydon: 224-265 (54.1 - 64%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
Tauros @ Life Orb
Ability: Sheer Force
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpA / 252 Spe
Naive Nature
- Rock Climb
- Fire Blast
- Earthquake
- Iron Tail
Not really a new lure but rhydon is normally a great tauros check but with iron tail, asuming you hit twice, It gets 2hko'd after a bit of prior damage like with 1 layer of spikes. Rhydon cant ohko back so you have some chances to hit 2 iron tails.
252 Atk Life Orb Sheer Force Tauros Iron Tail vs. 252 HP / 0 Def Eviolite Rhydon: 177-208 (42.7 - 50.2%) -- 0.4% chance to 2HKO
252 Atk Life Orb Sheer Force Tauros Iron Tail vs. 252 HP / 0 Def Eviolite Rhydon: 177-208 (42.7 - 50.2%) -- 92.6% chance to 2HKO after 1 layer of Spikes
16+ Atk Rhydon Earthquake vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Tauros: 157-186 (53.9 - 63.9%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
Knock + Grass Knot always kills factoring in Eviolite removal, and otherwise Rhydon's a lot of teams' main Liepard switchin even though it dislikes getting its Eviolite removed.
Earthquake now does 0 with magnet rise and Rock Blast doesn't even break a Sub, while Gear Grind 3HKO. Speed EVs to outspeed +Speed Base 80s and neutral nature base 90s, though max speed is better. Toxic is for the things you can't beat like Gastro and Mantine. Overall, unless DD Don, Rhydon loses to this.
Magmortar @ Assault Vest
Ability: Vital Spirit
EVs: 64 HP / 252 SpA / 192 Spe
Modest Nature - Hidden Power [Grass]
- Fire Blast
- Thunderbolt
- Earthquake
Something that has worked recently against 1st turn SR Rhydons.
HP Grass does 57.9 - 68.5% to a Rhydon unless it carries a weird ass set (252HP 252spDef)
Magmortar has a higher base speed then Rhydon so it 2hkos.
Not exactly the best lure but it gets the job done.
EDIT-(I have spoken to PursuitOfHappiny, and he informed me that HP Grass is standard on Magmortar (which I had no idea actually.) I'm new to the competitive scene when it comes to NU and actually using proper sets. Still, you'd be surprised how many people switch in Rhydon on Magmortar when I play ladder.)
Regirock @ Weakness Policy
Ability: Clear Body
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Rock Polish
- Drain Punch
- Earthquake
- Stone Edge
Spdef don does alot, over 50, but you can just dpunch your health back or eq for a guaranteed 2hko. On top of that, you can rp to potentially sweep, which already exceeds the purpose of this lol. And while yes, rp regi isnt a great set, the idea was to lure don successfully, and that it does. Also peeps have already taken the better lures :(
Since we got a BUNCH of lures this week, let's move on to the next threat!
This week's winners were: Blast's Liepard Set PrinceLucian's Grass Knot Kecleon erisia's Energy Ball Defensive Mesprit
Congrats.
Hitmonchan @ Life Orb
Ability: Iron Fist
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Drain Punch
- Ice Punch
- Earthquake
- Mach Punch
Hah, haha, heh... yeh this thing lures garb like a treat; I mean, come on, what garb doesn't come in on chan to get damage off?
252+ Atk Life Orb Hitmonchan Earthquake vs. 252 HP / 160+ Def Garbodor: 239-283 (65.6 - 77.7%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
252+ SpA Lilligant Psychic vs. 252 HP / 0 SpD Garbodor: 252-298 (69.2 - 81.8%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Stealth Rock
100BP Psychic instead of Dream Eater as it oddly enough doesn't exist on calc.
+1 252+ SpA Lilligant Psychic vs. 252 HP / 0 SpD Garbodor: 376-444 (103.2 - 121.9%) -- guaranteed OHKO
Vileplume @ Black Sludge
Ability: Effect Spore
EVs: 204 HP / 252 SpA / 52 Spe
Modest Nature
- Giga Drain
- Sludge Bomb
- Hidden Power Ground
- Moonlight
Garbodor is usually a pretty safe switch into Vileplume, as it's bulky enough to tank its STAB attacks and set up lots of Spikes if desired, while also being immune to Sludge Bomb's poison chance. However, offensive Vileplume has a very good chance to 2HKO this Garbodor set with Hidden Power Ground after Stealth Rock, while not risking a similar 2HKO from Gunk Shot thanks to Black Sludge. Hidden Power Fire is much more common so even if the opponent knows you're running offensive Vileplume, they may well leave Garbodor in anyways. Obviously don't switch this into Garbodor or the lure will be ruined.
252+ SpA Vileplume Hidden Power Ground vs. 252 HP / 0 SpD Garbodor: 152-180 (41.7 - 49.4%) -- 83.6% chance to 2HKO after Stealth Rock
0 Atk Garbodor Gunk Shot vs. 204 HP / 0 Def Vileplume: 142-168 (41.5 - 49.1%) -- 16.4% chance to 2HKO after Stealth Rock and Black Sludge recovery
This is an interesting set that I came up with that lures a whole host of physically defensive mons, but since the subject is only Garb ig I'll just talk about that.
There are two different ways you can lure Garb with this. You can click SD at some point in the battle and bait it out then 2hko with Hydro (4 SpA Mystic Water Samurott Hydro Pump vs. 252 HP / 0 SpD Garbodor: 180-213 (49.4 - 58.5%) -- 98.8% chance to 2HKO) or you can SD on Garb then live a Gunk, 2hko with Hydro and abuse +2 Torrent AJet (provided rocks are up/minor chip damage).
This set is super cool and I recommend you try it. For a full list of things that this can do, check out my post in the Creative/Underrated sets thread here!
Regardless of how much health Zangoose would end up losing against a Garbo switch-in, this is more or less a surefire way to "magnetize" the opponent's Garbodor in order to deal with this nuke of a Pokemon, even if they see it coming. If you can Knock Off Garbo on the switch, especially prior to being poisoned, you can minimize the damage that much more as you KO it the turn after.
Leafeon @ Starf Berry
Ability: Chlorophyll
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Swords Dance
- Leaf Blade
- Knock Off
- Natural Gift
Starf Berry Leafeon is a pretty cool Poison lure that wrecks Garbodor after a SD boost by surprising it with a Psychic-typed Natural Gift. As said before, this lure also works for other Poison-types like Weezing, making it a good partner for Pokemon that can struggle with these threats, such as Kangaskhan.
+2 252 Atk Starf Berry Leafeon Natural Gift (100 BP Psychic) vs. 252 HP / 200+ Def Garbodor: 332-392 (91.2 - 107.6%) -- 50% chance to OHKO
This rotom set is pretty darn sick and doesn't just lure malamar in. its able to hit things like skunk and av mag/lant rlly hard n stuff. also ohko's malamar after rocks :3
Malamar @ Lum Berry
Ability: Contrary
EVs: 236 HP / 252 SpD / 20 Spe
Careful Nature
- Superpower
- Knock Off
- Rest
- Topsy-Turvy
Odd lure but a fun and not entirely bad one either for those who don't know what Topsy-Turvy does it swaps the opposing pokemons stat changes and Malamars signature move. Basically you are able to constantly boost up while stopping the opposing Malamars with ease
Malamar will almost always stay in and click Superpower versus Barb in fear of a potential Shell Smash, however with this lure you just click X-Scissor and KO it comfortably. Even if you're using Jolly Barb (the better nature) you can still OHKO without any prior damage.
252+ Atk Tough Claws Barbaracle X-Scissor vs. 252 HP / 4 Def Malamar: 476-564 (126.5 - 150%) -- guaranteed OHKO
252 Atk Tough Claws Barbaracle X-Scissor vs. 252 HP / 4 Def Malamar: 432-512 (114.8 - 136.1%) -- guaranteed OHKO
Cacturne @ Life Orb
Ability: Water Absorb
EVs: 252 Atk / 252 Spe / 4 SpD Adamant / Lonely Nature
- Seed Bomb
- Sucker Punch
- Spikes / Dark Pulse
- Pin Missile / Fell Stinger
Usually Malamar can come in and obliterate Cacturne and a get free boost off it. However, if this cactus packs Pin Missile and Max Attack, it can lure in Malamar and OHKO it if it gets 3 hits or more. If you get unlucky and only get two, well you outspeed anyway, so just KO it! Another way you lure this thing is using the never used (thus never expected) move Fell Stinger. Fell Stinger is a near guaranteed 2HKO on a switch and you'll get a Swords Dance boost for it.
Calcs:
Pin Missile: 252+ Atk Life Orb Cacturne Pin Missile (3 hits) vs. 252 HP / 4 Def Malamar: 483-576 (128.4 - 153.1%) -- guaranteed OHKO
Fell Stinger: 252+ Atk Life Orb Cacturne Fell Stinger vs. 252 HP / 4 Def Malamar: 192-229 (51 - 60.9%) -- 90.6% chance to 2HKO after Leftovers recovery
Lanturn @ Assault Vest
Ability: Volt Absorb
EVs: 252 SpA / 132 SpD / 124 Spe
Modest Nature
- Scald
- Volt Switch
- Ice Beam
- Signal Beam
So Malamar can easily switch on Scalds as it can Rest up or start setting up if it wants. However Signal Beam is a nice 2HKO on it and you outspeed Malamar aswell.
252+ SpA Lanturn Signal Beam vs. 252 HP / 252+ SpD Malamar: 220-260 (58.5 - 69.1%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Leftovers recovery
Mantine @ Leftovers
Ability: Water Absorb
EVs: 248 HP / 196 Def / 64 SpA
Modest Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Scald
- Air Slash
- Defog - Signal Beam
Love running random bug moves on mons. Anyways malamar can usually switch on predicted defogs and start setting up on mantine but with signal beam and a bit of invesment mantine beats malamar, being able to 2hko it with the mentioned move.
64+ SpA Mantine Signal Beam vs. 252 HP / 252+ SpD Malamar: 184-220 (48.9 - 58.5%) -- 62.5% chance to 2HKO after Leftovers recovery
yeah, ik it's dumb af lol; but it's fun and bops aurorus ezpz, along with luring mons like shiftry, colo, lanturn, mantine, etc.
252 Atk Rhydon Earthquake vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Aurorus: 428-506 (110.5 - 130.7%) -- guaranteed OHKO
