[OVERVIEW]

Magearna boasts a wide array of sets and great typing, with resistances to Dark-, Fairy-, Psychic-, and Grass-type moves and immunity against Poison- and Dragon-type moves. Along with its impressive bulk, these attributes give it many setup opportunities, as well as making it a great switch-in to Pokemon like Tapu Lele, opposing Magearna, Latios, Latias, and Rillaboom. It also causes major mind games for opponents when trying to figure out the set. It has a great ability in Soul-Heart, which, along with the sheer power of its sets, allows it to snowball and get out of control rather quickly. Magearna does have some shortcomings, such as its weakness to Ground- and Fire-types, leaving it vulnerable to Pokemon like Nidoking, Cinderace, and Heatran. It also has a rather slow Speed stat that can be exploited easily by many Pokemon such as Cinderace, Landorus-T, Heatran, and Garchomp. Even after a Shift Gear boost, it's still outsped by Unburden-boosted Hawlucha, weather sweepers, and Choice Scarf Pokemon like Latios and Kartana, although the former struggles with being outpaced by Calm Mind sets. Magearna also has an issue with longevity due to its inconsistent healing methods in Draining Kiss and Pain Split, limiting its ability to switch in.

[SET COMMENTS]

Fleur Cannon serves as a very powerful move for Magearna to use, working in tandem with Choice Specs to shatter many defensive Pokemon. Volt Switch serves as a way of pivoting out of Pokemon that reliably switch into Fleur Cannon such as Toxapex and Blissey to gain momentum. Focus Blast allows it to hit Steel-types such as Heatran, Excadrill, and Ferrothorn, while Aura Sphere also hits them with more reliable accuracy but less power, which may be preferred for more consistency. Another move to consider is Flash Cannon, which is a great secondary STAB move that can be spammed to snowball out of control and deal great, consistent amounts of damage to Pokemon like opposing Magearna, Tapu Fini, Tapu Lele, and Calm Mind-boosted Clefable. However, in picking Flash Cannon, coverage against Steel-types is lost, making them more consistent switch-ins to Magearna. Trick enables Magearna to cripple walls like Ferrothorn, Toxapex, and Blissey with a Choice item, limiting their effectiveness and benefitting Magearna and its teammates.

Slowbro and Landorus-T pair very nicely with Magearna to serve as switch-ins for physical Fire-types such as Cinderace and physical Ground-types such as Garchomp and opposing Landorus-T, respectively. Slowbro can provide Future Sight support, being able to work in tandem with Magearna's attacks and leaving very few to switch in and withstand both. Both Slowbro and Landorus-T can pivot out of incoming Pokemon like Mandibuzz, Hydreigon, Latios, and Tornadus-T, allowing Magearna to safely come in and threaten them. Landorus-T appreciates Magearna's Volt Switch to gain momentum on Pokemon like Heatran, Blissey, and Toxapex, allowing it to bring in Landorus-T to threaten them out or set Stealth Rock. Other Pokemon like Garchomp, Cinderace, and Nidoking are all great partners that benefit from and pressure Pokemon that try to switch in on Magearna such as Fire-type Pokemon like Cinderace and Heatran, Steel-type Pokemon like Ferrothorn, Melmetal, and opposing Magearna, and Poison-types like Toxapex and Galarian Slowking; in return, Magearna can use Volt Switch on all of them and generate momentum for its respective partner. Cinderace especially forms a great offensive core with Magearna due to its offensive presence and ability to generate momentum for Magearna with its fast U-turn.

[SET COMMENTS]

Shift Gear allows Magearna to boost its Speed to outspeed Pokemon that can threaten it like Landorus-T, Cinderace, Garchomp, and Nidoking, while Calm Mind increases its Special Defense to take multiple special hits and boost further. This gives its Weakness Policy many opportunities to activate from special super effective attacks fired off by Pokemon like Moltres, Nidoking, and Heatran, giving Magearna additional boosts to its offensive stats. Life Orb can also be used to have immediate power in attacks for just a little HP loss, which can be more useful over Weakness Policy's situational boost. Stored Power lets it take advantage of all the aforementioned boosts. Focus Blast allows Magearna to hit Steel-types, while Aura Sphere hits them for less damage but more accuracy, which may be less preferred over the power Focus Blast provides. Draining Kiss is an alternative that is decently strong and recovers health for Magearna, increasing its longevity. The ability Soul-Heart allows it to start snowballing once boosted and get out of control.

Tapu Lele serves as a great teammate that can threaten Poison-types like Toxapex and provide Psychic Terrain to boost the power of Stored Power and protect Magearna against priority moves attempting to revenge kill it. Ground-type Pokemon like Landorus-T and Garchomp and Fire-type Pokemon like Cinderace and Heatran can also threaten and put pressure on Magearna's checks such as Blissey, Ferrothorn, and Heatran to give Magearna an easier time sweeping. Magearna also strives in hyper offense teams along with teammates like Cinderace, Tapu Koko, and Regieleki. The latter two can set dual screens and bring Magearna in safely with U-turn and Explosion, respectively, allowing it to set up more easily thanks to the damage reduction from the dual screens, including letting it take several physical super effective hits it couldn't take otherwise and giving it more opportunities to activate Weakness Policy.

[STRATEGY COMMENTS]
Other Options
====

Magearna can also utilize a set with Assault Vest that, alongside its great defensive typing and bulk, lets it give a solid backbone to teams and check Pokemon like opposing Magearna, Latios, Latias, Dragapult, and Tapu Lele. In addition, Choice Scarf can be used to get the jump on certain Pokemon like Cinderace, Garchomp, Tornadus-T, Kartana, Latios, and Latias. A Shift Gear + 3 attacks set can be used for more coverage options; these include Flash Cannon, which is a consistent and spammable STAB move, Ice Beam to hit incoming Ground-types, and Thunderbolt to take care of Pokemon like Toxapex, Corviknight, and Slowking. Thunderbolt can be replaced by Electro Ball, which takes advantage of the Speed boost from Shift Gear to fire off stronger hits than Thunderbolt against slower targets; however, Electro Ball is less consistent than Thunderbolt during matchups against faster Pokemon, making it unreliable as a coverage option.

Checks and Counters
====

**Fire-types**: Fire-types resist both of Magearna's STAB moves and can take hits from its coverage moves very well. Cinderace can take any hit from Magearna if it is healthy and threaten it back with a super effective Pyro Ball. Heatran can take most hits very well, with the exception of Focus Blast, and threaten back with Magma Storm or Lava Plume. Volcarona can also take hits from Magearna and use Quiver Dance, using it as setup fodder.

**Toxapex**: Resisting both its STAB moves and having access to Haze, Toxapex gives Magearna a hard time to get around, although it does not like taking repeated Volt Switches from Choice Specs Magearna or Shift Gear-boosted Electro Balls.

**Specially Defensive Pokemon**: Some Pokemon have a lot of special bulk, making it difficult for Magearna to break through them. Blissey can take hits from Magearna relatively well and chip it down with Seismic Toss or slow it down with Thunder Wave. However, Blissey struggles with taking boosted Draining Kisses and can't deal enough damage back. Galarian Slowking is another Pokemon that can take hits from Magearna well and retaliate with Flamethrower or threaten it with a Scald burn; however, if Magearna accumulates multiple boosts, Stored Powers can overwhelm it. Blissey also doesn't appreciate being given a Choice item through Trick.

**Steel-types**: Steel-types resist most hits from Magearna, only fearing Focus Blast and Aura Sphere. Excadrill can take one hit well, only fearing Focus Blast to OHKO it and threaten back with an Earthquake. Ferrothorn can also chip Magearna down thanks to Leech Seed and Body Press and can even paralyze it to let faster Pokemon revenge kill it.

  • With a modest nature, you can get the most out of your special attack when doing damage.

  • Slowbro can switch-in to fire types such as cinderace and threaten ground types like garchomp and landorus-therian out with scald and it's potential burn. Slowbro being able to Teleport out to Magearna should be mentioned here, as it allows Specs Magearna to switch in for free.
  • Landorus-therian can switch-in to pokemon that would be problematic such as cinderace, ground types like garchomp and opposing landorus-therian and when magearna volt switches on steels or fire types, landorus-therian can come in and threaten them out.
  • Garchomp can come in once magearna volt switches on fire type pokemon such as cinderace and heatran and steel type pokemon such as ferrothorn or opposing magearna to threaten them out with earthquake.

  • Shift gear allows you to outspeed most pokemon and to make stored power all the more powerful.
  • Calm Mind allows you to further boost the power of stored power and general attacks.
  • Stored Power lets you take advantage of all the boosting of stats of your ability, item in weakness policy and stat raising moves to have a generally strong move to hit pokemon.
  • Aura sphere allows magearna to hit steel types while focus blast can also hit steel types with more power but less accuracy. Draining Kiss serves as a way for magearna to recover health throughout the battle.

  • Tapu lele can threaten poison types such as toxapex and provide psychic terrain to further boost the power of stored power and to protect magearna against priority.
  • Landorus-therian can cover ground moves and physical fire moves and lash back with ground type moves to threaten both.
  • Cinderace can threaten steels with pyro ball or high jump kick and put pressure on magearna's checks such as blissey and heatran.

Checks and Counters

**Fire types**: Fire types do well to resist both of magearna's stabs and can take hits from it's coverage very well. Cinderace can take any hit magearna uses pretty well and dish back with a powerful pyro ball. Heatran can take most hits very well with the exception of focus blast and threaten back with magma storm or lava plume. Volcarona can also take on hits from magearna and quiver dance to eat up the hits even more.

**Toxapex**: Resisting both stabs and having access to haze gives magearna a hand time to get around, although toxapex does not like taking repeated voltswitches from specs magearna or shift gear boosted electro balls. Electro ball was never mentioned before this, which would need to be added in [STRATEGY COMMENTS]

**Specially defensive pokemon**: Some pokemon can have such sheer bulk making it difficult for magearna to break through them. Blissey has great bulk and can take hits from magearna relatively well and chip it down with seismic toss or slow it down with thunder wave. However blissey struggles when it starts taking boosted draining kisses and starts paling in damage output. Slowking-galar is another pokemon that can take hits from magearna relatively well and retaliate with fire blast flamethrower or threaten with a burn from scald most of Slowking-galar sets dont use Fire Blast or even Flamethrower anymore, which is why i mentioned to use threaten with a burn from scald. though i would still mention Flamethrower, just not Fire Blast due to its accuracy and its lack of pp. ,however if magearna gets too boosted, stored powers can start to hurt it severely.Blissey doesn't appreciate being tricked Both of these pokemon also don't appreciate being tricked Like i said earlier Slowking-Galar doesn't mind a trick from Magearna, it can help it in some cases to do more damage versus pokemon like Mandibuzz, Hydreigon and Landorus-T. and restricted in play.

**Steel types**: Steel types resists most hits from magearna, only fearing focus blast and aura sphere. Excadrill can take on the hits extremely well only fearing focus blast to ohko it. Ferrothorn can also chip magearna down greatly thanks to leech seed an body press and can even thunder wave it to let faster mons revenge kill it.

It has a great ability in Soul-Heart and due to this along with the sheer power of its sets, it can snowball and get out of control rather quickly. It has a great typing, boasting resistances in Dark-, Fairy-, Psychic-, and Grass-type moves, dark, fairy, psychic, grass with immunities against Poison- and Dragon-type moves. poison and dragon. Along with its impressive bulk, these attributes give it many setup opportunities and forms a defensive role to it to check Pokemon like Tapu Lele, opposing Magearna, Latios, Latias and Rillaboom. I think labelling this as a "defensive role" doesn't really fit the bill for the whole of this role. You're going to want to focus moreso on how these traits allow it to find good switch-in opportunities and help to reinforce a team's backbone. Magearna does have some shortcomings though, such as its typing still having some flaws in being weak to Ground- and Fire-types, leaving it vulnerable to Pokemon like Cinderace, Volcarona, Heatran, Landorus-T, Garchomp and Nidoking. It also has a rather slow Speed stat that can be abused by many Pokemon such as Cinderace, Landorus-T, Heatran and Garchomp. Even after a Shift Gear boost, it's still vulnerable to being outsped by unburden enabled Hawlucha and weather abusers like Barraskewda and Seismitoad in Rain and sand rush Excadrill and Dracozolt in Sand. I think these examples are a bit too specific as well. I would be inclined to mention Choice Scarf users in general, such as Zapdos-Galar.

Another issue with Magearna is that it lacks longevity outside of Draining Kiss and Pain Split, which can limit its ability to switch in, especially with its more offensively oriented sets.

[SET COMMENTS]

Fleur Cannon serves as a very powerful move for Magearna to use versus a team. With Choice Specs Magearna, it's the move you're going to want to click 99% of the time; it's honestly important to highlight just how powerful its Fleur Cannon is and how most of the set is built around potential Fleur Cannon counterplay. Volt Switch serves as a way of pivoting out of Pokemon who reliably switch into Magearna such as Toxapex and Blissey and forms a way for gaining momentum on them. Be sure to mention Heatran and Melmetal, too. Focus Blast allows it to hit steel types such as Heatran, Excadrill and Ferrothorn while Aura Sphere also hits them with more reliable accuracy but less power. This is important because? Another move to consider is Flash Cannon which gives a general STAB move that can be spammed and do great, consistent amounts of damage to Pokemon like opposing Magearna, Tapu Fini, Tapu Lele and boosted a Calm Minding Clefable. The focus is a bit off here, you want to highlight moreso that it gives a secondary STAB option that can snowball, which Fleur Cannon generally cannot do; again, remember that you're usually going to be clicking Fleur Cannon. Be sure to mention, though, that you do lose out on coverage against Steel-types, which is a major tradeoff. Trick enables Magearna to cripple walls like Toxapex and Blissey to limit them functioning against Magearna. Ferrothorn is worth a mention here as well. Choice Specs, along with the Modest nature, serves as an extra boost in Special Attack to allow these moves to be executed with high damage. Doesn't need to be mentioned, highlighting the power of Fleur Cannon pretty much does this already.

Slowbro pairs very nicely with Magearna to serve as a switch-in for physical Fire-types such as Cinderace and physical Ground-types such as Garchomp and Landorus-T and threaten them out with Scald and its potential burn. Additionally, it can provide Future Sight support for Magearna's attacks and can Teleport, allowing Magearna to safely come in and attack accordingly. What does it Teleport on? Dark-types like Mandibuzz come to mind. Magearna also appreciates team mates like Landorus-T that can switch into physical Fire-types such as Cinderace and Ground-types like Garchomp, Landorus-T and Nidoking, only fearing Ice Beam from it. This section about Landorus-T can be clumped with Slowbro, since you're describing major similarities defensively. Landorus-T can also set Stealth Rock on Volt Switch recipients like Heatran. Landorus-T, Garchomp and Nidoking are all great partners to benefit from coming in after Magearna uses Volt Switch on Fire-type Pokemon such as Cinderace and Heatran, Steel-type Pokemon like Ferrothorn or opposing Magearna and Poison-types like Toxapex or Galarian Slowking.

I would like to see a mention of Cinderace, which is a really good offensive partner since it can U-turn on Pokemon like Toxapex and pressure Steel-types that Magearna dislikes dealing with like Ferrothorn, Excadrill, Melmetal, and Heatran using Pyro Ball and HJK respectively. Magearna can also tear giant holes into physical walls for Cinderace.

[SET COMMENTS]

Using Shift Gear allows Magearna to boost its speed to outspeed Pokemon that can threaten it like Landorus-T, Cinderace, Garchomp and Nidoking while Calm Mind boosts the power of its attacks, along with granting more Special Defense to take hits and boost further. Weakness Policy provides boosts to Magearna, generally increasing the power of its moves thanks to the Special Attack boost and has many opportunities for the Weakness Policy to activate versus super effective hits from Specially Defensive Excadrill, and after being boosted in Special Defense, Moltres, Nidoking and Heatran. Life Orb gives a boost to its attacks for sacrificing little health that can be recovered when working in tandem with Draining Kiss. I wouldn't mention Draining Kiss here. Though, I would mention the opportunity cost of immediate power with residual HP loss versus Weakness Policy's situational boost. The ability Soul-Heart allows it to start snowballing once boosted and can get out of control. This mention of Soul-Heart can be bumped up to the top, since snowballing is a major benefactor of this set. Stored Power lets it take advantage of all the boosting of stats through its ability, item in Weakness Policy and stat raising moves. Aura Sphere allows it to hit Steel-types as well as Focus Blast with more power but less accuracy. Against what, and why would you use it? Draining Kiss is an alternative that is decently strong and recovers health for Magearna, increasing its longevity.

Tapu Lele serves as a great team mate that can threaten Poison-Types like Toxapex and provide Psychic Terrain to boost the power of Stored Power and protect it against priority attempting to revenge kill it. Landorus-T is another team mate that can cover Ground-type moves and physical Fire-type moves and lash back with Ground-type moves to threaten both, along with Steel-types. Cinderace can also full the role of threatening Steel-type Pokemon with Pyro Ball and High Jump Kick and put pressure on Magearna's checks such as Blissey and Heatran, along with chipping down Toxapex greatly with Electro Ball to make setting up for Magearna easier. Electro Ball is a niche option and one I don't think is worth mentioning. Magearna also strives in Hyper Offensive teams along with team mates like Cinderace, Tapu Koko and Regieleki. The latter two setup Light Screen and Reflect and use U-turn and Explosion respectively to get in Magearna to setup with ease behind screens. Ferrothorn is something that can beat Magearna 1v1. I would like to see you mention it in here. I think I also want to see a couple more mentions of Pokemon that can pressure Toxapex and Ferrothorn and provide it with setup opportunities, which are probably SG Magearna's best defensive checks.

[STRATEGY COMMENTS]
Other Options
====

Magearna can also utilize a set with Assault Vest and some bulk to soak up hits from opposing Magearna, Latios, Latias, Dragapult and Tapu Lele. Highlight how an AV lets its bulk and typing shine a lot more and how it can reinforce a team with a good Specially Defensive backbone. In addition, Choice Scarf can be used to get the jump on certain Pokemon like Cinderace, Garchomp, Tornadus-T, Kartana, Latios and Latias. Another Shift Gear set that can be used is Shift Gear with three attacks that utilizes more coverage options to hit more Pokemon, allowing it to snowball faster. It wouldn't really snowball faster, it would just snowball more consistently since you cover more matchups. A substitute for Thunderbolt on Shift Gear sets can be Electro Ball that takes advantage of the speed boost from Shift Gear to deliver strong blows compared to Thunderbolt. Magearna's natural speed tier makes this incredibly unreliable as a general purpose coverage option, so I would be sure to mention how it's mainly good against Corviknight and Toxapex, and not really anything else. You're trading more explosive firepower in a couple key matchups for consistency; that's worth highlighting.

Checks and Counters

**Fire-types**: Fire types do well to resist both of Magearna's STABs and can take hits from its coverage moves very well. It's not about eating the hits more, it instead just uses it as setup fodder.

**Toxapex**: Resisting both stabs and having access to Haze gives Magearna a hard time to get around, although Toxapex does not like taking repeated Volt Switches from Choice Specs Magearna or Shift Gear boosted Electro Balls.

**Specially Defensive Pokemon**: Some Pokemon can have such sheer bulk making it difficult for Magearna to break through them. Galarian Slowking is another Pokemon that can take hits from Magearna relatively well and retaliate with Flamethrower or threaten with a Scald burn, however if Magearna gets too boosted, Stored Powers can start to hurt it severely. Blissey also doesn't appreciate being tricked and restricted in play.

**Steel-types**: Steel types resists most hits from Magearna, only fearing Focus Blast and Aura Sphere. Excadrill can take on the hits extremely well only fearing Focus Blast to OHKO it. Ferrothorn can also chip Magearna down greatly thanks to Leech Seed and Body Press and can even Thunder Wave it to let faster mons revenge kill it.

I'm not going to go through all of them, but please capitalize every mention of a Pokemon name, move name, ability name, and type name. There're quite a few instances of this in your analysis.

Please let me know when you've added these and I'd like to take one more look.

[Overview]

Magearna boasts a wide array of sets, being able to cause mind games for others guessing which set it could be when fighting against it. I'm not really sure if I like the mind games thing being the first sentence of the overview. I think it's ok to mention, but not so quickly. It has a great ability in Soul-Heart and due to this along with the sheer power of its sets, it can snowball and get out of control rather quickly. It has a great typing, boasting resistances in Dark-, Fairy-, Psychic-, and Grass-type moves, with immunities against Poison- and Dragon-type moves. Along with its impressive bulk, these attributes give it many setup opportunities, along with giving many teams an ample switch-in to Pokemon like Tapu Lele, opposing Magearna, Latios, Latias and Rillaboom. I'd like to see these sentences moved up next to the first, and used as a way to compliment the point of it having an array of sets. Magearna does have some shortcomings though, such as its typing still having some flaws in being weak to Ground- and Fire-types, leaving it vulnerable to Pokemon like Cinderace, Volcarona, Heatran, Landorus-T, Garchomp and Nidoking. Too many examples I feel, you can cut this down mainly to Cinderace, Heatran, and Nidoking, especially because Landorus-T and Garchomp are not ever going to attempt switching right into it. It also has a rather slow Speed stat that can be abused easily by many Pokemon such as Cinderace, Landorus-T, Heatran and Garchomp. Even after a Shift Gear boost, it's still vulnerable to being outsped by unburden enabled Hawlucha, weather abusers and Choice Scarf Pokemon like Spectrier, Latios, Latias and Kartana, although the former three struggle with being outpaced by Calm Mind sets. Magearna also has an issue with longevity due to inconsistent healing methods in Draining Kiss and Pain Split, limiting its ability to switch-in.

Fleur Cannon serves as a very powerful move for Magearna to use, working in tandem with Choice Specs to shatter many defensive Pokemon. Volt Switch serves as a way of pivoting out of Pokemon who reliably switch into Fleur Cannon such as Toxapex and Blissey and forms a way for gaining momentum on them. Changing Magearna to Fleur Cannon subtly puts a focus on Fleur Cannon's power, which is something we want to do given Fleur Cannon's raw strength and spammability. Focus Blast allows it to hit Steel-types such as Heatran, Excadrill and Ferrothorn while Aura Sphere also hits them with more reliable accuracy but less power, which may be preferred over Focus Blast for more consistency. Another move to consider is Flash Cannon which gives a great secondary STAB move that can be spammed to snowball out of control and do great, consistent amounts of damage to Pokemon like opposing Magearna, Tapu Fini, Tapu Lele and boosted Clefable. However, in picking Flash Cannon, coverage against Steel-types is lost, making them more consistent switch-ins to Magearna. Trick enables Magearna to cripple walls like Ferrothorn, Toxapex and Blissey to limit them functioning against Magearna. Not really just against Magearna, but in general crippling them with a Choice lock. Be sure to update that.

Slowbro and Landorus-T pair very nicely with Magearna to serve as a switch-in for physical Fire-types such as Cinderace and physical Ground-types such as Garchomp and Landorus-T. Slowbro can provide Future Sight support for Magearna's attacks, giving them a great push to do high damage. Both Slowbro and Landorus-T can pivot on Pokemon that try to come in like Mandibuzz, Hydreigon, Latios and Tornadus-T, allowing Magearna to safely come in and threaten them. Landorus-T appreciates Magearna's Volt Switch to gain momentum on Pokemon like Heatran, Blissey and Toxapex, allowing it to come in and keep up momentum to threaten them out or setup Stealth Rocks. Other Pokemon like Garchomp, Cinderace and Nidoking are all great partners to benefit from and pressure Pokemon that try to switch-in on Magearna like Fire-type Pokemon in Cinderace and Heatran, Steel-type Pokemon like Ferrothorn, Melmetal, or opposing Magearna and Poison-types like Toxapex or Galarian Slowking, where Magearna can Volt Switch on all of them and generate momentum for its respective partner. These examples are good, but I'd like to see a greater emphasis on Cinderace, which forms an insanely potent offensive core with it in the tier currently.

The ability Soul-Heart allows it to start snowballing once boosted and can get out of control. Weakness Policy provides boosts to Magearna, generally increasing the power of its moves thanks to the Special Attack boost and has many opportunities for the Weakness Policy to activate versus super effective hits from Specially Defensive Excadrill, and after being boosted in Special Defense against Moltres, Nidoking and Heatran. Really wordy and confusing, I'd try to reword this more to be as a way to capitalize on specially-oriented super effective attacks. Your examples are generally good, though. Life Orb can also be used to have immediate power in attacks for just a little HP loss, which can serve much more use over Weakness Policy's situational boost. Stored Power lets it take advantage of all the boosting of stats through its ability, item in Weakness Policy and stat raising moves. Aura Sphere allows Magearna to hit Steel-types while Focus Blast also hits them with more power but less accuracy, which may be less preferred over Aura Sphere due to less consistency in accuracy. I'd put this the other way around. Focus Blast is generally preferred over Aura Sphere for its power, but be sure to phrase Aura Sphere more as the alternative.

Ground-type Pokemon like Landorus-T, Garchomp and Fire-type pokemon like Cinderace and Heatran can also fulfil the role of threatening and putting pressure on Magearna's checks such as Blissey, Ferrothorn and Heatran, to make sweeping with Magearna easier. Magearna also strives in Hyper Offensive teams along with team mates like Cinderace, Tapu Koko and Regieleki. The latter two setup Light Screen and Reflect and use U-turn and Explosion respectively to get in Magearna to setup with ease, with being ensured by support from Light screen and Reflect. I'd also explain how Screens support lets Weakness Policy boosts work more liberally against physical super effective hits.

Magearna can also utilize a set with Assault Vest that, alongside its great Defensive typing and bulk, lets it give a solid Specially Defensive backbone to teams and check Pokemon like opposing Magearna, Latios, Latias, Dragapult and Tapu Lele. In addition, Choice Scarf can be used to get the jump on certain Pokemon like Cinderace, Garchomp, Tornadus-T, Kartana, Latios and Latias. Another Shift Gear set that can be used is one with three attacks that utilizes more coverage options to hit more Pokemon, allowing it to snowball more consistently due to covering more matchups. What would examples of these moves be? Introduce Thunderbolt as an option here so the Electro Ball mention seems less haphazard and sudden. A substitute for Thunderbolt on Shift Gear sets can be Electro Ball that takes advantage of the speed boost from Shift Gear to deliver strong blows compared to Thunderbolt to Pokemon like Toxapex, Corviknight and Slowking. However, Electro Ball is less consistent than Thunderbolt due to matchups with faster Pokemon making the damage output litte, making it unreliable as a coverage option.

Checks and Counters

**Fire-types**: Fire-types do well to resist both of Magearna's STABs and can take hits from its coverage moves very well. Cinderace can take any hit Magearna uses pretty well if it is healthy and threaten it back with a super-effective Pyro Ball. Heatran can take most hits very well with the exception of Focus Blast and threaten back with Magma Storm or Lava Plume. Volcarona can also take on hits from Magearna and use Quiver Dance, using it as setup fodder.

**Toxapex**: Resisting both stabs and having access to Haze gives Magearna a hard time to get around, although Toxapex does not like taking repeated Volt Switches from Choice Specs Magearna or Shift Gear boosted Electro Balls.

**Specially Defensive Pokemon**: Some Pokemon have a lot of sheer bulk, making it difficult for Magearna to break through them. Blissey has great bulk and can take hits from Magearna relatively well and chip it down with Seismic Toss or slow it down with Thunder Wave. However, Blissey struggles when it starts taking boosted Draining Kisses and starts paling in damage output. Galarian Slowking is another Pokemon that can take hits from Magearna relatively well and retaliate with Flamethrower or threaten with a Scald burn, however if Magearna gets too boosted, Stored Powers can start to overwhelm it severely. Blissey also doesn't appreciate being given a Choice lock through Trick.

**Steel-types**: Steel-types resist most hits from Magearna, only fearing Focus Blast and Aura Sphere. Excadrill can take on the hits extremely well, only fearing Focus Blast to OHKO it. Ferrothorn can also chip Magearna down greatly thanks to Leech Seed and Body Press and can even paralyze it to let faster mons revenge kill it.

[SET COMMENTS]

Fleur Cannon serves as a very powerful move for Magearna to use, working in tandem with Choice Specs to shatter many defensive Pokemon. Volt Switch serves as a way of pivoting out of Pokemon who that reliably switch into Fleur Cannon such as Toxapex and Blissey and forms a way for gaining momentum on them to gain momentum. Focus Blast allows it to hit Steel-types such as Heatran, Excadrill,(AC) and Ferrothorn,(AC) while Aura Sphere also hits them with more reliable accuracy but less power, which may be preferred over Focus Blast for more consistency. Another move to consider is Flash Cannon,(AC) which gives is a great secondary STAB move that can be spammed to snowball out of control and do deal great, consistent amounts of damage to Pokemon like opposing Magearna, Tapu Fini, Tapu Lele,(AC) and Calm Mind-boosted Clefable. However, in picking Flash Cannon, coverage against Steel-types is lost, making them more consistent switch-ins to Magearna. Trick enables Magearna to cripple walls like Ferrothorn, Toxapex,(AC) and Blissey with a Choice lock to limit them functioning and giving benefit to Magearna and its team mates item,(AC) limiting their effectiveness and benefitting Magearna and its teammates.

Slowbro and Landorus-T pair very nicely with Magearna to serve as a switch-in switch-ins for physical Fire-types such as Cinderace and physical Ground-types such as Garchomp and opposing Landorus-T,(AC) respectively. Slowbro can provide Future Sight support for Magearna's attacks, giving them a great push to do high damage (I don't think this is what Future Sight support is for). Both Slowbro and Landorus-T can pivot on out of incoming Pokemon that try to come in like Mandibuzz, Hydreigon, Latios,(AC) and Tornadus-T, allowing Magearna to safely come in and threaten them.
