[OVERVIEW]

Magnezone's main draw is trapping and removing Steel-types such as Corviknight, Skarmory, and Ferrothorn with Magnet Pull. This support greatly enables many of the strongest sweepers and wallbreakers in the tier, such as Garchomp and Rillaboom. Its coverage is limited but effective, with different options to trap additional foes. However, Magnezone is held back offensively due to its low base Speed, leaving it revenge killed by the many faster Pokemon with super effective coverage. Its lack of longevity is also fairly limiting, denying it a defensive niche despite its great defensive typing. Further, Magnezone can't trap all relevant Steel-types with one set, forcing it to pick certain targets to trap.

[SET]
name: Iron Defense
move 1: Iron Defense
move 2: Body Press
move 3: Thunderbolt
move 4: Substitute
item: Leftovers / Air Balloon / Chople Berry
ability: Magnet Pull
nature: Bold
evs: 172 HP / 252 Def / 84 Spe

[SET COMMENTS]

Iron Defense + Body Press Magnezone traps Pokemon that its STAB moves cannot threaten while also pressuring certain special walls that can switch into its attacks otherwise, such as Blissey. Ferrothorn is the main target, as it is one of the best defensive Steel-types that resists Electric and Steel, but this set is still able to trap typical targets like Skarmory and Corviknight with Thunderbolt. Substitute is very useful to block common status moves such as Ferrothorn's Leech Seed and get one more hit off after taking down a Steel-type. Leftovers gives longevity and lets Magnezone set up Substitutes more often, while Air Balloon can let it revenge kill targets such as Excadrill and Melmetal. A Chople Berry is also an option to let Magnezone trap Melmetal and Kartana Choice locked into a Fighting-type move. 84 Speed EVs allow Magnezone to outspeed uninvested Skarmory, with the rest being invested into Defense and HP for Body Press damage and additional bulk.

With how easily Magnezone can remove Skarmory, Corviknight, and Ferrothorn, among other foes, physical setup sweepers such as Rillaboom, Kartana, Garchomp, and Dragonite can be much more effective. Iron Defense Magnezone will typically have a hard time breaking through Pokemon that aren't Steel-types due to the lack of offensive investment, meaning it needs strong defensive pivots to help when it gets in a bad position. Teammates like Rotom-W and Slowking can pivot into strong Fire-type attacks from Pokemon like Heatran and Galarian Slowking, while Ground-type answers such as Corviknight and Landorus-T can cover Magnezone against attackers like Garchomp and opposing Landorus-T. Magnezone also appreciates strong wallbreakers to stop walls from taking momentum after it traps a foe, so Pokemon like Kyurem, Choice Specs Dragapult, and Weavile are good fits to break foes it can't even when boosted.

[SET]
name: Choice Specs
move 1: Thunderbolt
move 2: Flash Cannon
move 3: Volt Switch
move 4: Toxic / Body Press / Steel Beam
item: Choice Specs
ability: Magnet Pull
nature: Modest / Timid
evs: 4 Def / 252 SpA / 252 Spe

[SET COMMENTS]

Choice Specs Magnezone goes all in with its massive Special Attack stat to hit as hard as possible while still trapping important targets. Its decently powerful STAB moves combined with Choice Specs and a Modest nature make it very hard to wall, as Electric-type answers without reliable recovery such as Landorus-T and Garchomp cannot switch into Flash Cannon reliably. Volt Switch is an incredible tool for Magnezone, allowing it to pivot around special walls such as Galarian Slowking, Blissey, and Ferrothorn to bring in stronger wallbreakers against them and chip them for itself later. Its Volt Switch is also very spammable because Flash Cannon deters Ground-types from switching in. Toxic is an unfavorable move to be locked into but is a great midground option against potential switch-ins like specially defensive Hippowdon and Swampert. Body Press lets Magnezone pick off Ferrothorn and Blissey after they've been chipped, and Steel Beam is a very high-risk, high-reward option that can even take down tanks such as Blissey and Galarian Slowking after they've been chipped. Magnezone is fine sacrificing itself with recoil after doing its trapping job. A Modest nature gives Magnezone a big general boost in power and more favorable damage rolls, such as always 2HKOing specially defensive Tyranitar with Flash Cannon. A Timid nature, however, allows Magnezone to outspeed some targets such as defensive Heatran and Scizor.

Rillaboom, Tapu Koko, and Mandibuzz are all great VoltTurn partners to let Magnezone continually switch in, especially Rillaboom, which baits in Steel-types for Magnezone to trap. Pokemon such as Gastrodon, Excadrill, and Blissey are some of the toughest walls for this set to break, meaning teammates that can bait in and damage them are greatly appreciated. Tornadus-T is a VoltTurn partner that baits them in to chip them down, and mixed Hex Dragapult is another pivot that burns Ferrothorn and dents Blissey with Dragon Darts instead.

[STRATEGY COMMENTS]
Other Options
====
If paired with Tapu Koko, Choice Specs Magnezone can opt to run Rising Voltage for an Electric-type STAB move that is extremely hard to switch into. Its reliance on Electric Terrain makes it somewhat inconsistent, but the reward is worthwhile. Rising Voltage's power also lets Magnezone run Choice Scarf over Choice Specs, but Choice Scarf sets still lose a lot of wallbreaking power overall and can't outspeed Pokemon such as Dragapult, Zeraora, and Tornadus-T. Choice Specs Magnezone can potentially run Analytic as its ability for extreme power, but sacrificing Magnet Pull and Magnezone's primary niche is not recommended. Teleport is another option on the Choice Specs set to pivot on Pokemon immune to Volt Switch. This comes at the cost of a key coverage move, though, and Flash Cannon already heavily dents some Ground-types.

Checks and Counters
====

**Ground-types**: Magnezone's 4x weakness to Ground and lack of coverage, especially on the Body Press set, make it very hard to break past and avoid revenge killing from Ground-types. Hippowdon, Landorus-T, Garchomp, and Excadrill all greatly threaten Magnezone with their STAB moves, but they don't appreciate switching into Choice Specs Magnezone's Flash Cannon, which lessens their pressure a little bit. Swampert and Gastrodon resist both of its STAB types, making them some of the hardest Ground-types to break immediately.

**Revenge Killers**: With such a low base Speed, middling special bulk, and weaknesses to common attacking types, Magnezone is fairly easy to revenge kill with Pokemon such as Dragapult, Volcarona, and Kartana, or any super effective coverage.

**Specially Defensive Walls**: Galarian Slowking is one of the best walls to Magnezone, as its high Special Defense, resistance to Body Press, and strong Fire-type coverage allow it to pivot into and take on most Magnezone sets. Blissey and Ferrothorn wall the Choice Specs set but fear the Iron Defense set, meaning they have to scout it first.

**Bulky Grass-types**: Tangrowth and Tapu Bulu are very sturdy walls against the Iron Defense set and deal decent damage back, but they are extremely vulnerable to a Choice Specs-boosted Flash Cannon. Ferrothorn, on the other hand, is great against the Choice Specs set but falls easily to the Iron Defense set.

[Overview]

  • Magnezone's main draw is its ability Magnet Pull, letting it trap and remove many Steel-types in the metagame such as Corviknight, Skarmory, Ferrothorn, and Choice Band Melmetal. Choice Band Melmetal can easily live a hit and OHKO back with Earthquake/Superpower.
  • It's solid base stats and limited but effective coverage lets it do its job with multiple different sets for trapping different targets. Is it really trapping different targets? The only target that seems to change between sets is Ferrothorn and even that is sometimes worked around by running Body Press. You could just say that it has multiple different sets for trapping.
  • Trapping Steel-types is one of the greatest ways to enable many sweepers walled by them, making Magnezone an incredible offensive partner for a lot of the strongest wallbreakers in the tier such as Garchomp and Rillaboom.
  • Magnezone is held back offensively due to its low base Speed, leaving it open to be revenge killed by the many faster Pokemon with Super effective coverage, as well as not functioning as a revenge killer for non-Steel-types itself.

  • Iron Defense Body Press Magnezone is a set focused on being able to trap Pokemon that its STABs cannot threaten while also pressuring certain special walls. Give examples of which special walls it threatens
  • Ferrothorn is the main target as it is one of the best defensive Steel-types that resist both STAB moves from Magnezone, but this set is still able to trap normal targets like Skarmory and Corviknight with Thunderbolt.
  • 84 Speed evs allows Magnezone to outspeed Skarmory, with the rest of investment put into max defense for the strongest Body Press hits and HP for additional bulk. EV explanations usually go at the end of this paragraph.
  • Leftovers lets Magnezone have decent longevity while being able to set up more Substitutes, while Air Balloon has potential to let Magnezone revenge kill targets such as Excadrill and Melmetal, with Chople Berry also helping against Melmetal and Kartana choice locked into a Fighting-type move. Any opportunity costs that come with Air Balloon/Leftovers/Chople Berry?

  • With how easily this set can remove Skarmory, Corviknight, and Ferrothorn among other things, Pokemon such as Rillaboom, Kartana, and many Dragon-types such as Garchomp and Dragonite appreciate the support Magnezone offers by removing their checks. Ok I wouldnt mention them as Dragon-types since that makes it seem like they use Magnezone to enable their typing, this isnt BW. I'd rather mention them as physical set up sweepers since that's what they are.
  • Iron Defense Magnezone will typically have a hard time breaking through Pokemon that aren't Steel-types due to the lack of offensive investment, meaning it needs strong defensive pivots to help when it gets in a bad position. Fire resists like Toxapex Rotom-W and Slowking can pivot into strong fire coverage from Pokemon like Heatran and Dragapult Galarian Slowking while ground resists such as Corviknight and Landorus-T can cover the ground weakness against attackers like Garchomp and opposing Landorus-T. Toxapex cannot switch into Heatran, and neither of your examples can switch into Dragapult so better to mention Galarian Slowking especially since it can wall ID magnezone very well.

Toxic is able to chip down Ground-types while hitting most Pokemon without needing to lock into an attack that can be predicted around, Body Press helps against Blissey with it beating ones that have been chipped by Volt Switch as well as giving a slightly harder hit against things like Ferrothorn, and Steel Beam is a very high risk high reward option, with the recoil being very detrimental to Magnezone but the damage output being extremely high. Anything that Steel Beam helps against? Picking off weakened targets like Blissey or Galarian Slowking comes to mind. It deals about 45 to both so also mention ways to weaken them, continuous Volt Switches for blisseys part and hazards for Galarian Slowking.
  • Add a point about natures.

Taunt Heatran threatens both by OHKO'ing Ferrothorn and baiting and trapping Blissey, while Pokemon with strong Fighting-type coverage such as Urshifu-R and Kartana can threaten them immediately when switched in. Ok but realistically when is a Blissey or Ferrothorn staying in against a Heatran, or when is Blissey ever staying in against Kartana or Urshifu-R for them to actually threaten it. All they can do is force it out which doesnt rlly help Magnezone. Mention something like Tornadus-T that can force damage on Blissey possibly weakening it, and it can either Knock Off its boots making it susceptible to hazards or it can form a VoltTurn core with Magnezone.

**Specially Defensive Walls**: Mention things like Blissey, and Galarian Slowking and mention how they can be worked around by Magnezone, also mention Ferrothorn and how it can be effective against the Choice Specs set since it can Knock Off its specs, mention how Ferrothorn is a bad check to Magnezone in general since it loses to the IDPress set.

  • It's solid base stats and limited but effective coverage lets it do its job with multiple different sets built for trapping. The only coverage that Magnezone actually uses is Body Press, it runs dual STABs otherwise. It would be better to say "give it the ability to make use of its options in order to augment its trapping abilities".
I would like to see a bullet point about Magnezone's lack of longevity making it incapable of utilizing its typing defensively, pretty much limiting its utility almost solely to trapping and wallbreaking to a degree.

  • Ferrothorn is the main target as it is one of the best defensive Steel-types that resist both STAB moves from Magnezone, but this set is still able to trap normal targets like Skarmory and Corviknight with Thunderbolt.
  • Leftovers lets Magnezone have residual recovery longevity, allowing it to use Substitute more often while being able to set up more Substitutes, while Air Balloon has the potential to let Magnezone revenge kill targets such as Excadrill and Melmetal, with Chople Berry also helping against Melmetal and Kartana choice locked into a Fighting-type move. Air Balloon and Chople Berry do come with that reduced longevity cost, but they allow Magnezone to trap slightly more targets which Leftovers cannot do, making them all have their benefits in specific matchups. I think it's important to mention that, with these targets, chip damage needs to have been done prior, as Body Press without an Iron Defense boost cannot OHKO any of these Pokemon naturally.
  • 84 Speed EVs allows Magnezone to outspeed Skarmory, with the rest of investment put into max defense for the strongest Body Press hits and HP for additional bulk.

  • With how easily this set Magnezone can remove Skarmory, Corviknight, and Ferrothorn among other things, physical set up sweepers such as Rillaboom, Kartana, Garchomp, and Dragonite appreciate how easily it can remove some of their bulkiest checks. A bit redundant with "how easily", you may want to change up the wording of this bullet point just a bit to keep things fluid.
  • Iron Defense Magnezone will typically have a hard time breaking through Pokemon that aren't Steel-types due to the lack of offensive investment, meaning it needs strong defensive pivots to help when it gets in a bad position. Fire resists like Rotom-W and Slowking can pivot into strong fire coverage from Pokemon like Heatran and Galarian Slowking, while ground resists such as Corviknight and Landorus-T can cover the ground weakness against attackers like Garchomp and opposing Landorus-T.

A major subject of importance, imo, is positioning. Are there any good teammates that can help to put Magnezone into a position where it can trap its desired targets? Some examples like Tapu Koko come to mind, which invite in/pivot against Ferrothorn, while giving its Thunderbolts more of a punch.

[SET COMMENTS]

  • Choice Specs Magnezone goes all in with its massive Special Attack stat to hit as hard as possible while simultaneously trapping important targets still. Like what? Its decently powered STAB moves combined with Choice Specs and a Modest nature makes it very hard to wall, as most answers to Electric-type moves such as Landorus-T and Garchomp without reliable recovery cannot switch into Flash Cannon reliably.
  • The last move has multiple different viable options that can be used. Toxic is able to chip down Ground-types while hitting most Pokemon without needing to lock into an attack that can be predicted around Specs Toxic locks you into an undesirable move once you land it though so I don't really think this is a good way to put it. Just saying that it is a good middle-ground option that can reliably spread status to a majority of potential switch-ins like [insert examples here] gets the point across more feasibly, Body Press helps against Blissey with it beating ones that have been chipped by Volt Switch as well as giving a slightly harder hit against things like Ferrothorn Body Press lets Magnezone pick Ferrothorn/Blissey off when chipped, and Steel Beam is a very high risk high reward option, with the recoil being very detrimental to Magnezone but the damage output being extremely high, even taking down tanks such as Blissey and Galarian Slowking after being chipped. This bullet point has some odd points of emphasis. The content for the most part is fine, but I feel as though some things need to be reworded. Most importantly, I would put each option into its own sentence for fluidity's sake.
  • Modest Nature gives Magnezone a big boost in power, letting it hit things much harder in general. Timid Nature, however, allows Magnezone to outspeed some targets such as defensive Heatran and Scizor. Great, it hits harder, but it doesn't look at the execution. Does Modest give any important rolls that Timid doesn't? Solely explaining why Timid is an alternative is fine though.

No mention of Volt Switch is odd to me, and I find Volt Switch to be an important proponent in letting Magnezone gain momentum against the tier's surplus of special walls, like AV Glowking and Blissey, and letting it safely accumulate chip damage against things like Ferrothorn so it can trap/pick them off later.

  • Volt Switch is very spammable from Magnezone since Flash Cannon can offensively deter Ground-types from switching in, so other Pokemon that form a voltturn core with it can greatly benefit it by giving opportunities to continuously switch in. Rillaboom, Tapu Koko, and Mandibuzz are all great at doing this, especially Rillaboom, which baits in Steel-types for Magnezone to trap. Volt Switch being spammable isn't really a point worth highlighting here. It's important to instead emphasize positioning here, which you do to a degree, but not to a point where that shows itself to be the clear takeaway from the bullet point.
  • Choice Specs doesn't allow for Magnezone to break some Pokemon Body Press would such as Blissey or Ferrothorn, so good teammates to bait these in are very important. Don't compare sets. Tornadus-T is able to threaten both with Knock Off, limiting their defensive capabilities while also forming a voltturn core with Magnezone for more chip damage over time. Mixed Hex Dragapult can also bait in both trying to pivot into special variants, chipping them for Magnezone by burning Ferrothorn and denting Blissey with Dragon Darts. Rework this bullet point to emphasize pressure against Special walls, as opposed to making it about things it can't break without Body Press.
This section is somewhat bare bones. I'd like to see a point or two talking about Magnezone's breaking abilities and what Pokemon actually benefit from it, and why.

  • If paired with Tapu Koko, Choice Specs Magnezone can opt to run Rising Voltage for an incredibly powerful Electric- type STAB move that is extremely hard to switch into. Its reliance on Electric Terrain and Tapu Koko makes it somewhat inconsistent, however. but the reward is large with such high base power.
  • Magnezone can run a Choice Scarf set also when paired with Rising Voltage, taking advantage of the high power boost to its Electric-type coverage to forego Choice Specs for Speed and have an easier time breaking targets like Heatran. Choice Scarf does lose a lot of breaking power overall though, and is still not fast enough for some Pokemon such as Dragapult, Zeraora, and Tornadus-T.
  • Choice Specs can potentially run Analytic as the ability, boosting its attack power to extremely high levels. It's important to mention this boost against forced switches, which is usually where this ability's power boost shines. The main drawback is that Magnezone can no longer trap Steel-types, and with that being one of the biggest strengths of Magnezone this is not heavily recommended.

Checks and Counters
====

**Ground-types**: Magnezone's 4x weakness to ground and lack of coverage especially on the Body Press set makes it very hard to overcome defensive Ground-types while also being easily revenge killed by them. Hippowdon, Landorus-T, Garchomp, and Excadrill all threaten Magnezone very hard with their STAB Ground-type moves, but they don't appreciate switching into Choice Specs Magnezone Flash Cannon which can alleviate a little bit of pressure from it. Excadrill resists Flash Cannon though, so explaining that Excadrill gives Magnezone a lot of trouble I think is good to do.

**Revenge killers**: With a base Speed of only 60 and weaknesses to common attacking types, Magnezone is fairly easy to revenge kill with fast super effective coverage. Pokemon such as Dragapult, Volcarona, and Kartana all deal massive damage to Magnezone due to their speed and high attacking stats with coverage to break through it.

**Specially Defensive Walls**: Galarian Slowking is one of the best walls for Magnezone, as its high Special Defense and resistance to Body Press with strong Fire-type coverage allows it to pivot into and take on most Magnezone sets. Blissey and Ferrothorn similarly wall the Choice Specs set but struggle against the Iron Defense one, making especially Ferrothorn a much worse check overall but a good one against the more offensive Choice Specs sets.

[Overview]

  • Magnezone's main draw is its ability Magnet Pull, letting it trap and remove many Steel-types in the metagame such as Corviknight, Skarmory, and Ferrothorn.
  • It's solid base stats and limited but effective coverage lets it do its job with different sets built for trapping.
It doesn't necessarily revenge kill Steel-types, it can switch into some of them directly.
  • Magnezone's lack of longevity means that it can't reliably take advantage of its defensive typing, instead only trapping and wallbreaking targets.
  • I think it is worth mentioning here Magnezone can't trap all the Steel-types of the tier on the same set as it requires different moves or items to do so for different targets.

[SET]
name: Iron Defense
move 1: Iron Defense
move 2: Body Press
move 3: Thunderbolt
move 4: Substitute
item: Leftovers / Air Balloon / Chople Berry
ability: Magnet Pull
nature: Bold
evs: 172 HP / 252 Def / 84 Spe

[SET COMMENTS]

  • Iron Defense Body Press Magnezone is a set focused on being able to trap Pokemon that its STABs cannot threaten while also pressuring certain special walls such as Blissey.
  • Ferrothorn is the main target as it is one of the best defensive Steel-types that resist both STAB moves from Magnezone, but this set is still able to trap normal targets like Skarmory and Corviknight with Thunderbolt.
  • Explain what Substitute does (blocking status moves like Ferrothorn's Leech Seed, and allowing you to get an extra hit off after killing a Steel)
Air Balloon and Chople Berry do come with that reduced longecity cost, but they allow Magnezone to trap slightly more targets which Leftovers cannot do, making them all have their benefits in specific matchups.
  • 84 Speed evs allows Magnezone to outspeed Skarmory Important to say uninvested, as some Skarm use speed and finish off weakened Zone with Body Press, with the rest of investment put into max defense for the strongest Body Press hits and HP for additional bulk.

  • With how easily this set can remove Skarmory, Corviknight, and Ferrothorn among other things, physical set up sweepers such as Rillaboom, Kartana, Garchomp, and Dragonite appreciate how easily it can remove some of their bulkiest checks.
If it can't break stuff you might want to add some wallbreakers here to use with it to do the breaking for it.

[SET]

move 3: Volt Switch
move 4: Toxic / Body Press / Steel Beam
item: Choice Specs
ability: Magnet Pull
nature: Modest / Timid
evs: 4 Def / 252 SpA / 252 Spe

[SET COMMENTS]

  • Choice Specs Magnezone goes all in with its massive Special Attack stat to hit as hard as possible while trapping important targets still. Its decently powered STAB moves combined with Choice Specs and a Modest nature makes it very hard to wall, as resists to Electric-type coverage such as Landorus-T and Garchomp without reliable recovery cannot switch into Flash Cannon reliably.
  • The last move has multiple different viable options that can be used. Toxic is able to chip down Ground-types while hitting most Pokemon without needing to lock into an attack that can be predicted around, Body Press helps against Blissey with it beating ones that have been chipped by Volt Switch as well as giving a slightly harder hit against things like Ferrothorn, and Steel Beam is a very high risk high reward option, with the recoil being very detrimental to Magnezone but the damage output being extremely high, even taking down tanks such as Blissey and Galarian Slowking after being chipped. Mention that Steel Beam also allows you to sacrifice Magnezone after it has done its job.
  • Modest Nature gives Magnezone a big boost in power, letting it hit things much harder in general. Any notable damage calcs from a Modest nature? Timid Nature, however, allows Magnezone to outspeed some targets such as defensive Heatran and Scizor.

  • Choice Specs doesn't allow for Magnezone to break some Pokemon Body Press As Body Press is an option on Specs you should say Iron Defense instead would such as Blissey or Ferrothorn, so good teammates to bait these in are very important. Tornadus-T is able to threaten both with Knock Off, limiting their defensive capabilities while also forming a voltturn core with Magnezone for more chip damage over time. Mixed Hex Dragapult can also bait in both trying to pivot into special variants, But Ferrothorn isn't going to want to switch into Dragapult before knowing the set as it could have Specs Flamethrower chipping them for Magnezone by burning Ferrothorn and denting Blissey with Dragon Darts.
  • As Specs Magnezone lures and damages Ground-types that counter the Iron Defense set, you could include teammates that enjoy having them removed.

[STRATEGY COMMENTS]

  • If paired with Tapu Koko, Choice Specs Magnezone can opt to run Rising Voltage for an incredibly powerful Electric- type STAB move that is extremely hard to switch into. Its reliance on Electric Terrain and Tapu Koko makes it somewhat inconsistent, but the reward is large with such high base power.
  • Magnezone can run a Choice Scarf set also when paired with Rising Voltage, taking advantage of the high power boost to its Electric-type coverage to forgo Choice Specs for Speed and have an easier time breaking This doesn't seem good wording, as Zone is not at all beating fast Heatran without Scarf, and "breaking" generally implies more power targets like Heatran. Choice Scarf does lose a lot of breaking power overall though, and is still not fast enough for some Pokemon such as Dragapult, Zeraora, and Tornadus-T.
  • Choice Specs can potentially run Analytic as the ability, boosting its attack power to extremely high levels. The main drawback is that Magnezone can no longer trap Steel-types, and with that being one of the biggest strengths of Magnezone this is not heavily recommended.
  • We think Teleport is worth mentioning here on Specs, as you can safely bring in a teammate to avoid them taking a hit and pivot out of Ground-types, but it does have drawbacks (gives up another move, you already hit most grounds with flash cannon)

**Fast Wallbreakers**: With a base Speed of only 60, You don't need to state exact stats Magnezone is fairly easy to revenge kill with fast super effective coverage. Pokemon such as Dragapult, Volcarona, and Kartana all deal massive damage to Magnezone due to their speed and high attacking stats with coverage to break through it.

A better way to explain this would be to say that once Magnezone has revealed Specs Blissey and Ferro are safe to switch in, as they definitely won't want to eat a Body Press from the more common ID set.

I think bulky Grass-types might be worth a point. Tangrowth and Tapu Bulu are good Iron Defense Magnezone checks but lose to Specs Flash Cannon, and you could move Ferrothorn here.

Magnezone's main draw is its ability Magnet Pull, letting it trap and remove many Steel-types in the metagame trapping and removing Steel-types such as Corviknight, Skarmory, and Ferrothorn (removed period) Trapping Steel-types is one of the greatest ways to enable many sweepers walled by them, making Magnezone an incredible offensive partner for a lot with Magnet Pull. This support greatly enables many of the strongest sweepers and wallbreakers in the tier, (AC) such as Garchomp and Rillaboom. Its solid base stats and limited but effective coverage lets it do its job with different sets built for trapping. Its coverage is limited but effective, with different options to trap additional foes. Magnezone is held back offensively due to its low base Speed (RC) leaving it open to be revenge killed by the many faster Pokemon with super effective coverage. Its (removed apostrophe) lack of longevity is also fairly limiting, meaning that it can't reliably take advantage of its defensive typing, instead only trapping and wallbreaking targets. Not all Steel-types in the tier can be trapped by just denying it a defensive niche despite its great defensive typing. Further, Magnezone can't trap all relevant Steel-types with one set, however, leaving Magnezone to need forcing it to pick certain targets to trap based on its set.

[SET COMMENTS]

Iron Defense Body Press Magnezone is a set focused on being able to traps Pokemon that its STAB moves cannot threaten while also pressuring certain special walls that can switch into its attacks otherwise, (AC) such as Blissey. Ferrothorn is the main target, (AC) as it is one of the best defensive Steel-types that resist both STAB moves from Magnezone resists Electric and Steel, but this set is still able to trap normal targets like Skarmory and Corviknight with Thunderbolt. Substitute is a very useful move for Magnezone to have on this set, letting it block status moves it would commonly be hit by very useful to block common status moves such as Ferrothorn's Leech Seed and letting it get one more hit off after taking down a Steel-type. Leftovers gives longevity and lets Magnezone have residual recovery letting it set up Substitutes more often, while Air Balloon has potential to let Magnezone can let it revenge kill targets such as Excadrill and Melmetal, with Chople Berry also helping against and Chople Berry lets it trap Melmetal and Kartana Choice locked into a Fighting-type move. Air Balloon and Chople Berry do come with reduced longevity, but allow Magnezone to trap more targets, making them all have their benefits in specific matchups. 84 Speed EVs allows Magnezone to outspeed uninvested Skarmory, with the rest of investment put into defense for Body Press hits and HP for being invested into Defense or HP for Body Press damage and additional bulk.

With how easily Magnezone can remove Skarmory, Corviknight, and Ferrothorn, (AC) among other things foes, physical setup (was "set up") sweepers such as Rillaboom, Kartana, Garchomp, and Dragonite appreciate how easily it can remove some of their bulkiest checks can be much more effective. (or smth else, original was pretty redundant with the start of the sentence) Iron Defense Magnezone will typically have a hard time breaking through Pokemon that aren't Steel-types due to the lack of offensive investment, meaning it needs strong defensive pivots to help when it gets in a bad position. Fire resists Teammates like Rotom-W and Slowking can pivot into strong fire coverage Fire-type attacks from Pokemon like Heatran and Galarian Slowking, while ground resists Ground-type answers such as Corviknight and Landorus-T can cover the ground weakness Magnezone against attackers like Garchomp and opposing Landorus-T. Strong breakers for these Ground-types are also appreciated to help threaten out walls so Magnezone isn't left helpless after trapping something, Magnezone also appreciates strong wallbreakers to stop walls from taking momentum after it traps a foe, (wasn't sure what "for these Ground-types" meant bc you say "breakers appreciated to threaten out walls", not something related to Ground-types. if the "for these Ground-types" idea should be kept, pls clarify) so Pokemon like Kyurem, Choice Specs Dragapult, and Weavile are good fits to break the things foes it can't even when boosted.

[SET COMMENTS]

Choice Specs Magnezone goes all in with its massive Special Attack stat to hit as hard as possible while still trapping important targets still. Its decently powered powerful STAB moves combined with Choice Specs and a Modest nature makes it very hard to wall, as resists to Electric-type coverage Electric-type answers without reliable recovery such as Landorus-T and Garchomp without reliable recovery cannot switch into Flash Cannon reliably. Volt Switch is an incredible tool for it, allowing Magnezone Magnezone, allowing it to pivot around special walls such as Galarian Slowking, Blissey, and Ferrothorn to get in stronger wallbreakers against them and chip them for itself later. Its Volt Switch is also very spammable because Flash Cannon deters Ground-types from switching in. Toxic is an unfavourable move to be locked into but is a great midground option against potential switch-ins (added hyphen) like specially defensive Hippowdon and Swampert. Body Press lets Magnezone pick off Ferrothorn and Blissey after they're chipped, and Steel Beam is a very high risk high reward option, with the recoil being very detrimental to Magnezone but the damage output being extremely high, even taking high-risk, high-reward option that can even take down tanks such as Blissey and Galarian Slowking after being they are chipped. This lets Magnezone sacrifice itself after doing its job of trapping as well, giving it a strong nuke to take itself and some opponents down. Magnezone is fine sacrificing itself with recoil after doing its trapping job. A (if there are momentum things worth mentioning, pls explicitly say so) Modest nature gives Magnezone a big general boost in power (RC) letting it hit things much harder in general, giving it more favourable and more favorable damage rolls, (AC) such as always 2HKOing (removed apostrophe) specially defensive Tyranitar with Flash Cannon. A Timid nature, however, allows Magnezone to outspeed some targets such as defensive Heatran and Scizor.

Volt Switch is very spammable, from Magnezone since Flash Cannon can offensively deter Ground-types from switching in, so other Pokemon that form a voltturn core with it can greatly benefit it by giving opportunities to continuously switch in. Rillaboom, Tapu Koko, and Mandibuzz are all great at doing this, Rillaboom, Tapu Koko, and Mandibuzz are all great VoltTurn partners to let Magnezone continually switch in, especially Rillaboom, which baits in Steel-types for Magnezone to trap. Pokemon such as Gastrodon, Excadrill, and Blissey are some of the toughest walls for this set to break, meaning certain teammates that can bait in and damage these are greatly appreciated. Tornadus-T is able to form a voltturn core with Magnezone for more chip damage over time against these special walls which are baited in. a VoltTurn partner that baits them in to chip them down, and mixed Hex Dragapult can also threaten both trying to pivot into it, chipping them for Magnezone by burning is another pivot that burns Ferrothorn and denting dents Blissey with Dragon Darts instead.

If paired with Tapu Koko, Choice Specs Magnezone can opt to run Rising Voltage for an incredibly powerful Electric- type Electric-type STAB move that is extremely hard to switch into. Its reliance on Electric Terrain and Tapu Koko (if you mean to say "having tapu koko as a partner kinda sketchy on its own", pls explain why) makes it somewhat inconsistent, but the reward is large with such high base power. Magnezone can run a Choice Scarf set also when paired with Rising Voltage, taking advantage of the high power boost to its Electric-type coverage to forgo the power of Choice Specs for Speed. Choice Scarf does lose a lot of breaking power overall though, and is still not fast enough for some worthwhile. Rising Voltage's power also lets Magnezone run Choice Scarf over Choice Specs, but Choice Scarf sets still lose a lot of breaking power overall and can't outspeed Pokemon such as Dragapult, Zeraora, and Tornadus-T. Choice Specs Magnezone can potentially run Analytic as the ability (RC) boosting its attack power to extremely high levels. The main drawback is that Magnezone can no longer trap Steel-types, and with that being one of the biggest strengths of Magnezone this is not heavily for extreme power, but sacrificing Magnet Pull and Magnezone's primary niche is not recommended. Teleport is another option on the Choice Specs set (RC) being a pivoting move that allows Magnezone to switch out to pivot on Pokemon immune to Volt Switch. This comes at the cost of another key coverage move, (AC) as well as being worse off by the fact that Flash Cannon can already heavily dent some Ground-types which this would be used to switch out on. though, and Flash Cannon already heavily dents some Ground-types.

Checks and Counters
====

**Ground-types**: Magnezone's 4x weakness to Ground and lack of coverage, (AC) especially on the Body Press set, (AC) makes it very hard to overcome defensive Ground-types while also being easily revenge killed by them break past and avoid revenge killing from Ground-types. Hippowdon, Landorus-T, Garchomp, and Excadrill all greatly threaten Magnezone very hard with their STAB Ground-type their STAB moves, but they don't appreciate switching into Choice Specs Magnezone's Flash Cannon, (AC) which can alleviate a little bit of pressure from it lessens their pressure a little bit. Swampert and Gastrodon resist both STAB moves and can hit hard with Ground coverage of its STAB types, making them some of the hardest Ground-types to break immediately.

**Revenge Killers**: With such a low base Speed, (AC) middling special bulk, (I imagine this more general addition makes sense bc fire move dpult not ubiquitous iirc? and i dont see dpult without fire move revenge killing "with super effective coverage") and weaknesses to common attacking types, Magnezone is fairly easy to revenge kill with super effective coverage. Pokemon such as Dragapult, Volcarona, and Kartana all deal massive damage to Magnezone due to their speed and high attacking stats with coverage to break through it. Pokemon such as Dragapult, Volcarona, and Kartana, or any super effective coverage. (so long as this still makes sense?)

**Specially Defensive Walls**: Galarian Slowking is one of the best walls for Magnezone, as its high Special Defense and resistance to Body Press with strong Fire-type coverage allows it to pivot into and take on most Magnezone sets. Blissey and Ferrothorn once the set is revealed can also be excellent checks to it, walling wall the Choice Specs set but fearing the Iron Defense set, (AC) meaning they have to scout it first.

**Bulky Grass-types**: Tangrowth and Tapu Bulu are very sturdy walls against the Iron Defense set, being able to take hits and deal decent damage back, but they are extremely vulnerable to the Choice Specs set's Flash Cannon. Ferrothorn, (AC) on the other hand, (AC) is great against the Choice Specs set but falls easily to the Iron Defense set.

I was referring to the Ground-types as said walls but probably just got mixed up over some words, this way makes more sense I think since it just lists the Pokemon mentioned as wallbreakers for things that stop Magnezone.

What did you mean by momentum things here, as in like where you can gain momentum from dying to recoil? If that's the case I don't know if there's obvious scenarios where the momentum can always happen and benefit the player since it would rely on teammates, positioning, etc. so I left out adding anything specific.

[Overview] [OVERVIEW]

Magnezone's main draw is trapping and removing Steel-types such as Corviknight, Skarmory, and Ferrothorn with Magnet Pull. This support greatly enables many of the strongest sweepers and wallbreakers in the tier, such as Garchomp and Rillaboom. Its coverage is limited but effective, with different options to trap additional foes. However, Magnezone is held back offensively due to its low base Speed, (AC) leaving it revenge killed by the many faster Pokemon with super effective coverage. Its lack of longevity is also fairly limiting, denying it a defensive niche despite its great defensive typing. Further, Magnezone can't trap all relevant Steel-types with one set, forcing it to pick certain targets to trap.

[SET COMMENTS]

Iron Defense + Body Press Magnezone traps Pokemon that its STAB moves cannot threaten while also pressuring certain special walls that can switch into its attacks otherwise, such as Blissey. Ferrothorn is the main target, as it is one of the best defensive Steel-types that resists Electric and Steel, but this set is still able to trap normal typical targets like Skarmory and Corviknight with Thunderbolt. (Period) and A Chople Berry lets it is also an option to let Magnezone trap Melmetal and Kartana Choice locked into a Fighting-type move. 84 Speed EVs allow Magnezone to outspeed uninvested Skarmory, with the rest being invested into Defense or and HP for Body Press damage and additional bulk.

Volt Switch is an incredible tool for Magnezone, allowing it to pivot around special walls such as Galarian Slowking, Blissey, and Ferrothorn to get bring in stronger wallbreakers against them and chip them for itself later. Its Volt Switch is also very spammable because Flash Cannon deters Ground-types from switching in. Toxic is an unfavorable move to be locked into but is a great midground option against potential switch-ins like specially defensive Hippowdon and Swampert. Body Press lets Magnezone pick off Ferrothorn and Blissey after they're they've been chipped, and Steel Beam is a very high-risk, high-reward option that can even take down tanks such as Blissey and Galarian Slowking after they are they've been chipped.

Pokemon such as Gastrodon, Excadrill, and Blissey are some of the toughest walls for this set to break, meaning teammates that can bait in and damage these them are greatly appreciated. Tornadus-T is a VoltTurn partner that baits them in to chip them down, and mixed Hex Dragapult is another pivot that burns Ferrothorn and dents Blissey with Dragon Darts instead.

[STRATEGY COMMENTS]
Other Options
====
Choice Specs Magnezone can potentially run Analytic as the its ability for extreme power, but sacrificing Magnet Pull and Magnezone's primary niche is not recommended. Teleport is another option on the Choice Specs set to pivot on Pokemon immune to Volt Switch. This comes at the cost of a key coverage move, though, and Flash Cannon already heavily dents some Ground-types.

Checks and Counters
====

**Ground-types**: Magnezone's 4x weakness to Ground and lack of coverage, especially on the Body Press set, makes make it very hard to break past and avoid revenge killing from Ground-types.

**Specially Defensive Walls**: Galarian Slowking is one of the best walls for to Magnezone, as its high Special Defense, (AC) and resistance to Body Press, (AC) with and strong Fire-type coverage allow it to pivot into and take on most Magnezone sets. Blissey and Ferrothorn wall the Choice Specs set but fear the Iron Defense set, meaning they have to scout it first.

**Bulky Grass-types**: Tangrowth and Tapu Bulu are very sturdy walls against the Iron Defense set and deal decent damage back, but they are extremely vulnerable to the Choice Specs set's a Choice Specs-boosted Flash Cannon. Ferrothorn, on the other hand, is great against the Choice Specs set but falls easily to the Iron Defense set.
