Mamoswine is a strong Stealth Rock setter because it threatens out several offensive and defensive Pokemon with its STAB combination. Icicle Crash and Earthquake allow Mamoswine to have good coverage, hitting a plethora of defensive Pokemon, like Toxapex and Mandibuzz, and even a few offensive Pokemon that are slower than Mamoswine, such as Altarianite Arcanine, Blastoisite Hydreigon, and Altarianite Kommo-o. Ice Shard allows Mamoswine to revenge kill faster threats, like Dragapult and Noivern. The Mega Stone of choice for Mamoswine here is Lucarionite, as it grants Mamoswine Adaptability. Adaptability allows Mamoswine to take advantage of its great STAB combination to set Stealth Rock, since many Sablenite users like Mandibuzz, Hippowdon, and Toxapex will want to avoid taking on Mamoswine.
Although Mamoswine has great offensive presence, its Speed after Mega Evolving is decent at best and it is outsped by common offensive threats, like Excadrill and Terrakion. Its bulk is also average, meaning it strongly dislikes taking non-resisted hits, so a strong defensive core to support Mamoswine is appreciated. Manectite Mew can help Mamoswine by switching into Excadrill and Lopunnite Zeraora that may threaten it out and by providing pivoting support, and Mamoswine can, in turn, threaten Pokemon that may force Mew out like Hydreigon and Dragapult. Mamoswine also struggles to break through strong Ice-type checks, like Venusaurite Corviknight, Banettite Jellicent, and Latiasite Toxapex, so Pokemon like Blastoisite Hydreigon and Manectite Rotom-W can assist Mamoswine in dealing with them. Diancite Gengar and Lunala make great partners for Mamoswine, as Mamoswine can force out Sablenite Mandibuzz, a strong Ghost-type check, to set up Stealth Rock, softening it up for the two. In return, Gengar and Lunala can force out physical walls like Manectite Mew, Banettite Jellicent, and Venusaurite Corviknight that Mamoswine struggles with.
