RU Mandibuzz (QC 3/3) (GP 2/2)

teachable

Banned deucer.
[OVERVIEW]

Rocking an incredible typing and equally impressive 110 / 105 / 95 defensive stats, Mandibuzz is one of the RU tier's most formidable walls. Access to a huge variety of utility moves, such as Knock Off, Taunt, Toxic, U-turn, Brave Bird, Foul Play, and Defog, prevents Mandibuzz from being taken advantage of by walls like Bronzong and setup sweepers like Feraligatr. Mandibuzz's defensive strengths are further bolstered by Overcoat, preventing hail and sandstorm from Pokemon like Vanilluxe and Gigalith from negating its Leftovers; it also prevents Roserade from being able to put it to sleep. Reliable recovery in Roost assures Mandibuzz will stay healthy enough to check Pokemon like Yanmega, Linoone, and Roserade. While 80 Speed is not particularly high, it puts Mandibuzz in a perfect spot; Mandibuzz is faster than the majority of defensive Pokemon, allowing it to act as a great stallbreaker with Taunt and Toxic while remaining slower than a large number of more offensive Pokemon to generate momentum with a slow U-turn. Additionally, Mandibuzz has a favorable matchup against the majority of the defensive Stealth Rock setters in the tier, primarily Mega Steelix and Registeel, and thus is an incredibly reliable Defog user. However, Mandibuzz's difficulty with fitting Brave Bird onto most of its movesets means it invites in Fighting-types such as Virizion, Bewear, Machamp, and Pangoro that can take advantage of it to set up Swords Dance or fire off strong attacks. Roost removing Mandibuzz's Flying typing also prevents it from checking Pokemon it would otherwise, such as Escavalier and some of the aforementioned Fighting-types.

Moves
========

Toxic lets Mandibuzz cripple walls such as Milotic and Cresselia. Taunt prevents opposing walls such as the aforementioned Milotic from afflicting Mandibuzz with Toxic poison and prevents others like Porygon2 from healing off potential Toxic damage. Roost provides Mandibuzz with reliable recovery. Foul Play lets Mandibuzz punish setup sweepers like Flygon and Feraligatr. Although it weakens Mandibuzz's matchup against more offensive teams, Knock Off greatly improves Mandibuzz's role of as a stallbreaker with the ability to remove items from defensive Pokemon.

Set Details
========

Leftovers provides Mandibuzz with additional recovery. Alternatively, Rocky Helmet allows it to beat Registeel and Mega Steelix with the combination of Taunt and Roost while additionally punishing U-turn from Yanmega and Flygon. Overcoat prevents Mandibuzz from being worn down by weather and being put to sleep by Roserade's Sleep Powder. 184 Speed EVs let Mandibuzz outspeed Adamant Honchkrow, allowing it to win in a one-on-one scenario thanks to Roost. The remainder of the EVs are used to make Mandibuzz a physical tank capable of stomaching very powerful attacks, primarily the aforementioned Honchkrow's attacks and Linoone's +6 Extreme Speed. Alternatively, Mandibuzz can sacrifice bulk and invest fully into its Speed to maximize its stallbreaking capabilities.

Usage Tips
========

Be careful of switching Mandibuzz directly into defensive Pokemon carrying status-inflicting moves, particularly Toxic, such as Registeel and Cresselia. Make sure to use Taunt prior to Toxic versus the aforementioned status inducers, as it is far more important to keep Mandibuzz free of status conditions. After Taunt has been used against a more defensive team, Knock Off should be used liberally, as not a lot of defensive Pokemon enjoy losing their items.

Team Options
========

Without a Rocky Helmet, Mandibuzz does not check Registeel as reliably. Thus, pairing it with a Pokemon that can threaten it, such as Sigilyph, Rocky Helmet Chesnaught, or Refresh Milotic, is generally a good idea. Mandibuzz appreciates Pokemon like Gligar and Cresselia to cover its tendency to invite in Fighting-types like Pangoro and Virizion. Mandibuzz's weakness to Stealth rock means it enjoys Defog support from Pokemon like Rotom-C and Gligar so it can more reliably stay healthy. Snorlax and Bronzong pair well with Mandibuzz, threatening the primary Ice-types in the tier, such as Mega Abomasnow, Vanilluxe, and Mega Glalie. Healing Wish users, primarily Shaymin and Gardevoir, can give Mandibuzz a second chance for staying healthy and free of status conditions to bolster its stallbreaking capabilities. Similarly, clerics like Florges can fulfill a similar role in providing leeway with regards to status.

Moves
========

Defog allows Mandibuzz to support its teammates by keeping Stealth Rock off the field. Taunt paired with Mandibuzz's base 80 Speed attempts to keep Mandibuzz free of status conditions and allows it to check Curse Snorlax. U-turn can be used over Taunt on teams with powerful breakers like Yanmega and Hoopa that appreciate being brought in for free thanks to Mandibuzz's slow U-turn. Roost provides Mandibuzz with a reliable form of recovery, keeping it healthy to check Pokemon like Yanmega and Roserade. Mandibuzz is able to check offensive Pokemon like Feraligatr, Flygon, and Belly Drum Linoone in a pinch with Foul Play. Alternatively, Knock Off lets Mandibuzz harm defensive Pokemon like Milotic and Registeel by removing their Leftovers. Mandibuzz invites in various Fighting-types, so Brave Bird is an option over Taunt to punish them, notably OHKOing Virizion.

Set Details
========

Leftovers provides Mandibuzz with additional recovery, further helping it remain healthy. 20 Defense EVs are used to always survive +6 Linoone's Extreme Speed, while the Careful nature and the rest of the EVs are used to make Mandibuzz as specially bulky as possible so it can take on Mega Blastoise, Yanmega, and Roserade.

Usage Tips
========

Be careful of switching Mandibuzz directly into defensive Pokemon potentially carrying status-inflicting moves, such as Registeel, Milotic, Cresselia, and Gligar. Keeping Foul Play hidden from your opponent can surprise Pokemon like Feraligatr and Flygon as they attempt to use Mandibuzz as setup fodder, while revealing it can dissuade them from setting up. Use Defog when against Pokemon Mandibuzz checks such as Chesnaught, Roserade, and Umbreon. Even if your opponent has a Pokemon capable of coming in on your Defog and placing Stealth Rock on the field again, such as Nidoqueen, you can take advantage of Mandibuzz forcing them to use Stealth Rock again by bringing in an offensive threat like Hoopa or Zygarde-10% for free. An uninvested Speed stat also lets Mandibuzz freely bring in frail offensive threats with slow U-turn, like the aforementioned Hoopa and Zygarde-10%.

Team Options
========

Without a Rocky Helmet, Mandibuzz fails to reliably check Registeel and Mega Steelix. Thus, pairing it with a Pokemon that can threaten these Pokemon such as Sigilyph or Refresh Milotic is generally a good idea. Gligar and Cresselia can help check the Fighting-types that Mandibuzz invites in. Because of Mandibuzz's lack of Defense investment, Pokemon able to stomach strong physical hits, like Milotic and Chesnaught, make great partners. Pokemon weak to Stealth Rock, such as Moltres and Yanmega, appreciate Mandibuzz's proficiency as a Defogger. Snorlax, Doublade, and Bronzong can threaten the Ice-type Pokemon, primarily Vanilluxe, Mega Glalie, and Mega Abomasnow, that Mandibuzz is threatened by. Florges pairs well with Mandibuzz, as it can check Fighting-types for Mandibuzz and its cleric support helps Mandibuzz stay free of status conditions.

[STRATEGY COMMENTS]
Other Options
=============

Brave Bird Mandibuzz can opt to run a more physically defensive EV spread to tank hits from Fighting-types like Virizion more easily. Whirlwind is another unique utility option in Mandibuzz's repertoire, but it is typically hard pressed to find space for it in its moveset. On more offensive teams, Mandibuzz can run Tailwind to offensively support its teammates. Stall teams should make use of a faster Mandibuzz with 176 Speed EVs and a Speed boosting nature to outspeed and check Timid Hoopa.

Checks and Counters
===================

**Super Effective Attacks**: Pokemon with a type advantage against Mandibuzz, like Mega Ampharos, Gardevoir, and Mega Abomasnow, can threaten to deal heavy damage to it.

**Status Conditions**: As a wall, Mandibuzz does not appreciate being whittled down by Toxic or and Burn from Pokemon like Milotic and Cresselia.

**Taunt**: While under the effects of Taunt, Mandibuzz is not able to use Roost or Taunt and as such is not able to keep itself healthy and free of status conditions.

  • Similarly,Reliably reliable recovery in Roost similarly makes certain Mandibuzz will stay healthy enough to check Pokemon like Yanmega, Linoone, and Roserade. improves flow
  • While 80 Speed is not particularly high, it puts Mandibuzz in a perfect spot for what it wants to do; Mandibuzz is faster than the majority of defensive Pokemon, allowing it to act as a great stallbreaker with Taunt and Toxic, while remaining slower than a large number of more offensive Pokemon to generate momentum with U-turn.

  • Roost removing Mandibuzz's Flying-type similarly prevents it from checking Pokemon it would otherwise, such as Escavalier and the aforementioned Fighting-types. mandibuzz is slower than fighting-types like virizion so cc will not be hitting it super effectively, so i'd change this to "some of the aforementioned Fighting-types".

  • Taunt, paired with Toxic, allows Mandibuzz to poison Defensive Pokemon and prevent them from healing their status.
  • Taunt additionally, paired with Mandibuzz's Speed stat, makes it difficult to status Mandibuzz.
  • Roost provides Mandibuzz with reliable recovery.
  • Foul Play lets Mandibuzz punish Pokemon attempting to setup in front of it, such as Flygon and Feraligatr, while simultaneously letting it check a +6 Linoone.
  • While weakening its matchup against more offensive teams, Knock Off greatly improves Mandibuzz's role of a stallbreaker with the ability to remove defensive Pokemon's Leftovers or Gligar's Eviolite.
this is fine

  • Alternatively, Rocky Helmet allows it to beat Registeel and Mega Steelix with the combination of Taunt and Roost while additionally punishing U-turn from Yanmega and Flygon.
  • Overcoat prevents Mandibuzz from being worn down by weather or being put to sleep by Roserade's Sleep Powder.
  • The given EV spread of 248 HP / 20 Def / 56 Spd SpD / 184 Spe aims to make let Mandibuzz outspeed defensive Pokemon aiming to outspeed Jolly Bewear to prevent them from being able to status Mandibuzz before it is able to Taunt. 20 Def EVs are used to always allow Mandibuzz to tank a +6 Linoone's Extreme Speed at 100%, while the remaining Special Defense investment and a Calm nature make Mandibuzz let Mandibuzz check Yanmega and Roserade more comfortably. okay, the first part is a bit confusing. i would try to cut this up into different bullet points ie. have one that explains each different stat or if you feel comfortable having some parts a bit longer you could do 248 HP / 20 Def / 56 SpD in a single section and have the speed evs in its own. i just feel like having it all fleshed out will make it more readable when you write it all up :)

Usage Tips
========
  • Be careful of switching Mandibuzz directly into defensive Pokemon carrying status moves, such as Registeel and Cresselia. i would emphasize how dangerous toxic is, because while mandi doesn't appreciate a paralysis or burn it's definitely much easier to handle that than toxic poison
  • Make sure to use Taunt prior to Toxic versus the aforementioned status carrying Pokemon, as it is far more important to keep Mandibuzz status free.
  • Revealing Foul Play early on in the match versus more offensive teams can deter Pokemon from attempting to setup in front of it. idk what you're trying to say here :/. are you trying to say that it's wise to not reveal fp? o_o kind of vague, i would try to clarify

after reading through a bunch of your analysis you re use the same sentences over and i'm not really sure how QC people feel about it but i'd recommend switching it up some if you have some free time

[STRATEGY COMMENTS]
Other Options
=============

  • Mandibuzz has access to Nasty Plot and the bulk to reliably boost several times, however its abysmal Special Attack and mediocre Speed for a sweeper leave this job done better by other Pokemon like Houndoom.
  • Heat Wave can be used to surprise an Escavalier expecting to handle Mandibuzz easily, but Mandibuzz has trouble fitting it into its moveset and would rather appreciate a partner capable of handling Escavalier.
i don't think these are relevant enough to have here but if qc would like them then they're fine ofc
  • mention that running 221 spe allows you to prevent opposing gligar from Defogging (on the second set).
  • mention that mandi can run a more physically defensive set if needed, especially on sets utilizing brave bird that appreciate being able to tank hits from fighting-types, especially viriz, more easily
  • potential whirlwind mention?
  • needs mention of extremely quick mandi that outpaces hoopa, mainly utilized on stall

Checks and Counters
===================

**Ice-, Fighting-, and Fairy-types**: Pokemon with a type advantage against Mandibuzz, like Virizion, Gardevoir, and Mega Abomasnow, can threaten to deal heavy damage to it. none of virizion's STAB attacks hit mandibuzz super effectively, so i'd recommend changing the example.

**Status conditions**: As a wall, Mandibuzz does not appreciate being whittled down by Toxic or Burn.

**Taunt**: While under the effects of Taunt, Mandibuzz is not able to use Roost or Taunt and as such is not able to keep itself healthy and status free.

Im rusty with doing this so bear with me on this.

- Mentioning Rocky Helmet Xatu on both sets as a partner just look so random to me. Like ok, it has a niche but idk if it is the best partner you can put in there when it can lose to Mega Steelix anyways. You could mention Sigilyph as a supplementary partner since it switches on Registeel for days, and Rocky Helmet Chesnaught since it can punish Mega Steelix and annoy it with Leech Seed.
- Chesnaught and Milotic arent fighting type switch-ins. Add some real fighting switch-ins as partners for both sets like Cresselia or even Whimsicott do a better job at checking fighters than them. You gotta rephrase that somehow since Milotic and Chesnaught do make good partners to handle physical threats like Tyrantrum and whatnot but saying they switch into fighters is a mistake that cant slide.
- Can probably add Tailwind in other options cause why not. You have heat wave in there :v

Great job. Really digging it. QC 2/3

Now write it up and pray

Taunt, paired with Toxic, allows Mandibuzz to poison Ddefensive Pokemon and prevent them from healing their status and additionally, paired with Mandibuzz's Speed stat, makes it difficult to status Mandibuzz. i would reword this to something like "Toxic lets Mandibuzz cripple walls such as Milotic and Cresselia. Taunt prevents opposing walls such as the aforementioned Milotic from inflicting Mandibuzz with their own Toxic and prevents others like Porygon2 from healing off potential Toxic damage." what you have rn just doesn't flow very well. Roost provides Mandibuzz with reliable recovery. Foul Play lets Mandibuzz punish Pokemon attempting to setup in front of it, such as Flygon and Feraligatr, while simultaneously letting it check a +6 Linoone. linoone is already mentioned in set details. make this, "Foul Play lets Mandibuzz punish set up sweepers like Flygon and Feraligatr." While Although it weakensing its match up against more offensive teams, Knock Off greatly improves Mandibuzz's role of a stallbreaker with the ability to remove defensive Pokemon's Leftovers or Gligar's Eviolite. <- mention leftovers examples and include p2 as a evio example or do no examples, rn it looks weird because you have no lefties examples and imply that gligar is the only evio user in the tier.

Alternatively, Mandibuzz can sacrifice bulk and invest fully into its Speed to maximize its stallbreaking capabilities. idk if making it any faster really improves its ability to break stall. i think the focus of investing more speed is to check hoopa, so maybe change this to "check stallbreakers like Hoopa" ? just a thought but if you don't agree don't worry about it

this is really short-- maybe add a couple more tips?

Without a Rocky Helmet, Mandibuzz fails to reliably check Registeel. taunt still completely shuts down regi and lefties + roost stalls out seismic toss 1v1. maybe say something else, like "Rocky Helmet lets Mandibuzz more easily check walls like Registeel"? As such, pairing it with a Pokemon that can threaten it,these Pokemon such as Sigilyph, Rocky Helmet Chesnaught, and Refresh Milotic is generally a good idea. Mandibuzz appreciates Pokemon like Gligar and Cresselia to cover its tendency to invite in Fighting-types like Pangoro and Virizion. Similarly, physically bulky Pokemon like Chesnaught and Milotic can check Pokemon <examples?> looking to slam Mandibuzz on its un-invested physical side. A Rock-type weakness means Mandibuzz enjoys being paired with a Defog user like Rotom-C and Gligar for their ability to keep Stealth Rock off the field, meaning Mandibuzz can more reliably stay healthy. Snorlax and Bronzong pair well with Mandibuzz, threatening the primary Ice-types in the tier, such as Mega Abomasnow, Vanilluxe, and Mega Glalie. Be careful of switching Mandibuzz directly into defensive Pokemon potentially carrying status moves, such as Registeel, Milotic, Cresselia, and Gligar. Revealing that Mandibuzz is carrying Foul Play early on in the match versus more offensive teams can deter Pokemon from attempting to setup in front of it, so keep in mind how you want to influence your opponents play; keep it hidden and you can surprise Pokemon like Feraligatr and Flygon as they attempt to use you as setup fodder or dissuade them from ever setting up by letting them know you have it. <- i see your point but this is just so tedious to read lol D:. just try re wording it so it flows and gets the idea to the reader or drop it. Use Defog when against Pokemon you check such as Chesnaught, Roserade, and Umbreon. When using Defog, make sure you have a switch in to whatever Pokemon will come in, like Virizion, Machamp, and Bewear, as otherwise you may find yourself having to sacrifice a Pokemon. Even if your opponent has a Pokemon capable of coming in on your Defog and placing Stealth Rock on the field again, primarily Nidoqueen, you can take advantage of Mandibuzz forcing them to use Stealth Rock again by bringing in an offensive threat like Hoopa or Zygarde-10% for free. Without a Rocky Helmet, Mandibuzz fails to reliably check Registeel and Mega Steelix. As such, pairing it with a Pokemon that can threaten these Pokemon such as Sigilyph or Refresh Milotic is generally a good idea. Gligar and Cresselia can help check the Fighting-types that Mandibuzz invites in. With Because of Mandibuzz's lack of defensive investment on its physical side, Pokemon able to stomach strong physical hits from Pokemon like Tyrantrum, like Milotic and Chesnaught, make great partners. this is confusing. i just think you should roll with no examples of physical attackers and just keep the milo and ches as defensive partners to make it easier on the reader Pokemon weak to Stealth Rock, such as Moltres and Yanmega, appreciate Mandibuzz's ability to keep them off the field. Snorlax, Doublade, and Bronzong can threaten the Ice-type Pokemon, primarily Vanilluxe, Mega Glalie, and Mega Abomasnow, that Mandibuzz is threatened by. Florges pairs well with Mandibuzz as its cleric support is appreciated with giving Mandibuzz leniency in staying status free and additionally checking Fighting-types that come in on Mandibuzz.

nothing really / wrong / with the above it's just literally like the same sentences rehashed with (some) different examples. i'd personally drop the bit about florges to mention a teammate that specifically does well with this set, otherwise gj here

Heat Wave can be used to surprise an Escavalier expecting to handle Mandibuzz easily, but Mandibuzz has trouble fitting it into its moveset and would rather appreciate a partner capable of handling Escavalier. i can't see anyone ever using this on a real team. On sets utilizing Brave Bird, to take on Fighting-types, Brave Bird Mandibuzz can opt to run a more physically defensive EV spread to tank hits from them Fighting-types like Virizion more easily. Whirlwind is another unique utility option in Mandibuzz's repertoire, but it is typically hard pressed to find space for it in its moveset. On more offensive teams Mandibuzz can run Tailwind to offensively support its teammates. Stall teams should make use of a faster Mandibuzz with 176 Speed EVs and a Speed boosting nature to outspeed and check Timid Hoopa.

i'd drop tailwind too but if you think it has a niche leave it

Rocking an incredible typing and equally impressive 110 / 105 / 95 defensive stats, Mandibuzz is one of the RU tier's most formidable walls. Access to a huge variety of utility moves, such as Knock Off, Taunt, Toxic, U-turn, Brave Bird, Foul Play, and Defog, (AC) prevent Mandibuzz from being taken advantage of by walls like Bronzong and set up setup sweepers like Feraligatr. Mandibuzz's defensive strengths are further bolstered by Overcoat, preventing Hail and Sandstorm hail and sandstorm from Pokemon like Vanilluxe and Gigalith from negating its Leftovers; it also prevents Roserade from being able to put it to sleep. Reliable recovery in Roost assures Mandibuzz will stay healthy enough to check Pokemon like Yanmega, Linoone, and Roserade. While 80 Speed is not particularly high, it puts Mandibuzz in a perfect spot; Mandibuzz is faster than the majority of defensive Pokemon, allowing it to act as a great stallbreaker with Taunt and Toxic, while remaining slower than a large number of more offensive Pokemon to generate momentum with a slow U-turn. Additionally, Mandibuzz has a favourable favorable matchup against the majority of the defensive Stealth Rock setters in the tier, primarily Mega Steelix and Registeel, and as such is an incredibly reliable Defog user. However, Mandibuzz's difficulty with fitting Flying-type STAB Brave Bird onto most of its movesets means it invites in the majority (repetition) Fighting-types such as Virizion, Bewear, Machamp, and Pangoro, (RC) whom are all able to wreck havoc given the free opportunity to fire off an attack or Swords Dance that can take advantage of it to set up Swords Dance or fire off strong attacks.

========

Without a Rocky Helmet, Mandibuzz fails to reliably check Registeel and Mega Steelix. As such, Thus, pairing it with a Pokemon that can threaten these Pokemon such as Sigilyph or Refresh Milotic is generally a good idea.

Other Options
=============

===================
