(Mega) Abomasnow

HypnoEmpire

Yokatta...
Overview
########

Pros:
  • Great mixed offensive stats.
  • Access to Swords Dance and priority Ice Shard.
  • Good defensive stats and typing helps it check/counter some Electric-, Water-, and Grass-types like Jolteon, Slowking, and Amoonguss.
  • Can put huge dents on stall easily.
  • Blizzard spam :]
Cons:
  • Really low 30 base Speed as mega. Base form has 60 base Speed, which is still kinda slow, but can potentially give Abomasnow a jump on something it otherwise wouldn't outspeed with megas base Speed.
  • Takes up the mega slot (pretty sure Abomasnow is bad without mega), which honestly doesn't matter /too/ much but can't use other useful megas like Mega Steelix and Mega Glalie on the same team.
  • Weakness to Stealth Rock and common Fire- and Fighting-type moves.
  • Lack of reliable recovery prevents it from checking threats consistently.
WEPWNPOKEMON!
########
name: WEPWNPOKEMON!
move 1: Swords Dance
move 2: Ice Shard
move 3: Wood Hammer / Seed Bomb
move 4: Earthquake
ability: Soundproof
item: Abomasite
evs: 168 HP / 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 84 Spe
nature: Adamant

Moves
========
  • Swords Dance boosts Abomasnow's Attack to scary levels.
  • Ice Shard is strong priority, especially after a Swords Dance.
  • Wood Hammer does absolutely ridiculous damage after a SD and is capable of even 2HKOing some bulky resists after a bit of prior damage.
    +2 252+ Atk Abomasnow Wood Hammer vs. 252 HP / 4 Def Bronzong: 149-176 (44 - 52%) -- 14.8% chance to 2HKO after Stealth Rock and Leftovers recovery.
  • Seed Bomb is a good option over Wood Hammer to avoid recoil and still have a solid Grass-type STAB, but the power difference is noticeable.
  • Earthquake hits everything that resists Ice Shard and Wood Hammer aside from Bronzong.
Set Details
========
  • Abomasite for mega of course.
  • Soundproof let's it switch into Boomburst from Exploud and Hyper Voice from Meloetta.
  • Max Attack and Adamant to inflict as much damage as possible.
  • 168 HP and 4 SpD EVs give it some bulk to set up easier, check threats better, and give it a Stealth Rock number (I think).
  • The Speed EVs outspeed min Speed Rhyperior, but more Speed can be run to creep creeping Rhyperior (lol). There are probably other Speed benchmarks too.
Usage Tips
========
  • Abomasnow should keep its health up so it can safely and successfully set up Swords Dance, so it should avoid taking many hits before preparing to set up.
  • Pivot Abomasnow in on something passive like Alomomola so it can start dishing out powerful hits or set up.
  • Would love for hazards (especially Toxic Spikes and Stealth Rock) to be removed before preparing to set up.
  • Don't try to set up before threats like Bronzong and Cobalion are taken out or considerably damaged.
  • Whack Steel-types like Registeel and Cobalion as they switch in with Earthquake or double-switch to something that can deal with them. It should definitely double-switch on a predicted Bronzong switch-in unless its considerably low on HP.
Team Options
========
  • AV Kabutops can take on Moltres and some other Fire- and Flying-types and can Rapid Spin away hazards.
  • Doublade can take on most Steel-types with relative ease.
  • Moltres, especially Scarf Moltres, can deal with Steelix and most other Steel-types while also having U-turn, which can get Abomasnow in on something safely (When Moltres leaves, replace with Emboar maybe).
  • Cresselia can wall most Fighting-types and Fire-types with good EV placement and can even deal with Pangoro with a faster Moonblast.
  • Pivots are really useful. Cobalion can scare away Steel-types not named Doublade and take advantage of that with Volt Switch to get Abomasnow in safely. Eelektross can keep stuff like Moltres in check and has a slow Volt Switch to get Abomasnow in safely.
Mega Big Chill
########
name: Mega Big Chill
move 1: Blizzard
move 2: Ice Shard
move 3: Wood Hammer / Giga Drain
move 4: Earthquake
ability: Soundproof
item: Abomasite
evs: 8 HP / 160 Atk / 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 84 Spe
nature: Lonely

Moves
========
  • Blizzard is strongest Ice move and most spammable move.
  • Ice Shard for good priority.
  • Wood Hammer for the raw power with recoil. Giga Drain for noticeably less power with recovery.
  • Earthquake hits Steel-types like Registeel and Cobalion (Cobalion on switch-in).
Set Details
========
  • Abomasite because... it's the mega.
  • Soundproof let's Abomasnow switch into stuff like Exploud's Boomburst and Meloetta's Hyper Voice.
  • 160 Attack EVs Lonely 2HKOs support Cobalion and 2HKOs Registeel after a bit of residual damage.
  • 84 Speed EVs is a benchmark to outspeed 0 Speed Rhyperior. Can run more to creep more.
  • 252 SpA EVs to inflict much damage on its most spammable move, Blizzard. Rest is put in bulk.
Usage Tips
========
  • Switch into passive stuff like Alomomola or double switch / pivot it in / get in after something on your team faints / whatever else and wallbreak.
  • Remove hazards, especially Stealth Rock, since they will wear down Abomasnow quickly.
  • Hit Cobalion as it switches in with the appropriate coverage move since it eats up STABs and outspeeds Abomasnow.
Team Options
========
  • Moltres / Fletchinder can deal with nearly every Steel-type in the tier.
  • Scarfed Moltres can be used to better handle Cobalion.
  • Doublade can set up on Cobalion and most other Steel-types and handle Medicham.
  • AV Kabutops checks Fire- and Flying-types and can Rapid Spin hazards (Stealth Rock) away.
  • A lure such as Sacred Sword Doublade for Houndoom or Calm Mind Cobalion / Virizion for Doublade can be beneficial for Abomasnow.
  • Cresselia can wall most Fighting- and Fire-types with good EV placement and even deal with Pangoro with a faster Moonblast.
Other Options
########
  • Rock Slide to lure in Moltres and bop it.
  • Ice Punch on the SD set for a stronger Ice-type STAB.
  • Hidden Power Fire on the mixed set to lure in Escavalier and inflict a big chunk of damage on it.
Checks & Counters
########

**Fire-types**: Fire-types such as Houndoom, Delphox, and Emboar can switch into one of Abomasnow's STABs and then proceed to outspeed and KO it, but they must be wary of Earthquake and Stealth Rock + Blizzard + Hail can seriously pressure these Pokemon. Moltres and Fletchinder don't like taking Blizzard and hate Stealth Rock, but they can eat up a predicted Grass-type move and proceed to KO it with their STAB moves.

**Fighting-types**: Fighting-types such as Hitmonlee, Pangoro (remove when banned), and Medicham don't like taking any big hits from Abomasnow and Hitmonlee takes a big chunk from Ice Shard, but if they can get in safely, they can easily KO Abomasnow with their Fighting STABs.

Will finish up later.

agreeing with above. also, things to consider
- seed bomb should get significantly more consideration on the sd set, probably a slash; the damage output is nice here for sure, but so is not killing yourself when playing into a momo, even things like rhyperior, which (in the long run) more significantly benefits abomasnow in its primary role
- names. i'm fairly certain qc has conceded that the sd and mixed sets should be named "WEPWNPOKEMON!" and "Mega Big Chill", respectively, but if anybody wants to be lame and object, then just sorta shut up for a little bit and let this one slide.

:)

Alright, I did the above. Just have a question: in Checks & Counters, should I make a section for each of Abomasnow's big weaknesses or just have a **Super Effective Damage** section and include everything from Moltres to Hitmonlee in there? I feel like naming off nearly every one of Abomasnow's weaknesses can get ridiculous.
