National Dex Mega Charizard Y National Dex Team

INTRO

This is a bulky offense team built around Mega Charizard Y as a powerful wallbreaker and weather setter in National Dex. The team utilizes a VoltTurn core with Tapu Koko, Landorus-Therian, and Rillaboom to generate momentum and bring Charizard in safely to pressure opposing teams. After initial breaking, Choice Scarf Kartana provides speed control and serves as a late-game cleaner, while Latias offers hazard removal to support Charizard. The team aims to maintain offensive pressure while improving consistency against faster threats and stall matchups.

Charizard @ Charizardite Y
Ability: Blaze
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Fire Blast
- Solar Beam
- Focus Blast
- Roost

Mega Charizard Y acts as the primary wallbreaker and weather setter, chosen to pressure bulky cores and disrupt rain teams.
A Timid nature with max Special Attack and Speed maximizes damage output while allowing it to outspeed key threats.
Fire Blast is the main nuke in sun, Solar Beam removes Water-types, Focus Blast targets Heatran and Tyranitar, and Roost provides longevity.

Tapu Koko @ Heavy-Duty Boots
Ability: Electric Surge
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Thunderbolt
- Volt Switch
- Dazzling Gleam
- Taunt

Tapu Koko functions as a fast pivot and utility option, supporting Charizard by forcing out Water-types and maintaining momentum.
Maximum Special Attack and Speed investment allows it to pressure offensive teams effectively.
Volt Switch enables momentum, Thunderbolt provides consistent damage, Dazzling Gleam hits Dragons and Dark-types, and Taunt shuts down recovery and hazard setters.

Landorus-Therian @ Rocky Helmet
Ability: Intimidate
EVs: 252 HP / 240 Def / 16 Spe
Impish Nature
- Stealth Rock
- Earthquake
- U-turn
- Toxic

Landorus-Therian serves as the team’s physical wall and Stealth Rock setter, checking threats like Zeraora and opposing physical attackers.
The given EV spread maximizes physical bulk while allowing it to outspeed opposing defensive Landorus variants.
Stealth Rock provides chip damage, Earthquake is reliable STAB, U-turn maintains momentum, and Toxic punishes bulky switch-ins.

Rillaboom @ Choice Band
Ability: Grassy Surge
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Grassy Glide
- Wood Hammer
- Knock Off
- U-turn

Rillaboom acts as a priority revenge killer and rain check, helping mitigate fast Water-type threats.
Maximum Attack and Speed investment with a Choice Band maximizes immediate offensive pressure.
Grassy Glide provides strong priority, Wood Hammer offers raw power, Knock Off removes items, and U-turn maintains momentum.

Latias @ Heavy-Duty Boots
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 252 HP / 4 SpA / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Defog
- Draco Meteor
- Psychic
- Roost

Latias provides hazard removal and serves as a special pivot, ensuring Charizard can function effectively.
Maximum HP and Speed investment improves overall bulk while maintaining utility against faster threats.
Defog clears hazards, Draco Meteor offers strong STAB damage, Psychic hits Fighting- and Poison-types, and Roost ensures longevity.

Kartana @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Beast Boost
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Leaf Blade
- Smart Strike
- Sacred Sword
- Knock Off

Kartana provides essential speed control and acts as a late-game cleaner, improving the team’s matchup against faster threats.
Maximum Attack and Speed with a Choice Scarf allows it to outspeed a wide range of offensive Pokémon.
Leaf Blade and Smart Strike are reliable STAB moves, Sacred Sword helps break through defensive Pokémon like Blissey, and Knock Off provides utility.

THREATS

Heatran remains a major threat, as it can switch into Charizard Y and force risky predictions while threatening to trap and wear down the team.
Rain offense, especially Swift Swim users like Mega Swampert, can still overwhelm the team if weather control is lost.
Zeraora is problematic due to its high Speed and coverage, particularly if Landorus-Therian is weakened.
Dragapult can pressure the team with its Speed and versatility, especially without Weavile’s presence.

FLAWS

The team is still somewhat reliant on Mega Charizard Y as its primary wallbreaker, meaning losing it early reduces offensive pressure.
Hazard control is dependent on Latias alone, making the team vulnerable to heavy hazard stacking.
The team can struggle defensively against repeated strong special attackers if momentum is lost.

EDITS
*Replaced Weavile for Kartana
*Changed Tapu Koko's Roost for Taunt

Hi F O R G D! I am locking your RMT for the time being as the forum rules require that you provide at least three lines of descriptions for each Pokemon to explain their roles. Please read the rules carefully and look at the Team Showcase to see the detail we require. PM me with updated descriptions, and I will be happy to unlock this. Also, feel free to PM me if you need help or have any questions. Have a nice day!
To PM someone on Smogon, go over their name on any of their post. It will display a little pop-up with a summary of their profile. Then, hit the "Start conversation" button and you will be able to write a PM just like you write a regular thread.
Why did you choose this Pokemon? What do the EV spreads do and why do you have it? What are all 4 moves for?

e: freed!

dragapult isnt in natdex ou, but the main problem with that is that you have no ghost resist, that would make the pult & scarf ghold MU super tricky as you dont have a reliable switch in.
- for changes i tried replacing latias with ting-lu which would give you a solid ghost resist as well as a different rocker so you can run defog lando & it gives you a good special wall and for scarf kartana I went with a scarf ghold as it provides actual defensive utility against mons like kyurem and mdiancie

Thank you, I kind of forgot that dragapult was banned in NatDex (I haven't played much showdown in a long time and just started again). Anyways, swapping Latias with Ting-Lu is an amazing idea since it fixes my ghost weakness and offers more bulk, as well as a secondary spikes user. But, I just couldnt see myself using Scarf Gholdengo over Kartana, because even though i get spinblock and a better way to counter kyurem and m diance, i lose my best physical breaker and i just NEED it for stall and good speed control

scarf trick gholdengo will do better against stall than any scarf kart ever will. Scarf kart gets shut down by mons like corviknight, tangrowth and amoongus whereas with gholdengo you can trick a clodsire or blissey, force recover moves and fish for spdef drops with shadow ball or even you could have psyshock (even tho recover/focus blast/twave would be better honestly). Besides you have CB rillaboom which is a good breaker and scarf ghold as your speed is passable with good priority.
- you can experiment with other scarfers but i would recommend a replacement for scarf kart

I will probably replace kart soon since it was kinda like a place holder scarfer, which turned out to be really good, but I know there are better options, and maybe might replace it with ghold, but as it stands currently, i dont see myself using ghold on this team, since it would change up my play style quite a bit and would mess up my team synergy (not by much but u can still see the difference)
