[OVERVIEW]

Mega Gardevoir is an admirable offensive nuke in the 1v1 metagame, able to set up on and one-shot several bulky Pokemon such as Mega Gyarados, Tapu Lele, and Zygarde-C with a Pixilate-boosted Hyper Beam. In addition, Mega Gardevoir also has access to tools such as Hyper Voice to provide coverage against Substitute users, as well as access to utility options in the form of Will-O-Wisp and Calm Mind, which can be very useful in breaking through physically offensive threats such as Dragonite, Donphan, and Golem and bulkier special attackers such as Tapu Lele, Primarina, and Tapu Fini. Before Mega Evolving, the ability Trace allows Gardevoir to acquire the ability of its foe, which is indispensable against certain Pokemon such as Dragonite and Mega Gyarados. Unfortunately, its naturally poor defenses leaves Mega Gardevoir quite vulnerable to faster physical attackers that populate the metagame, such as Mega Lopunny, Garchomp, Mega Pinsir, and Choice Scarf Haxorus. It also has a terrible matchup against most of the Steel-types in the metagame, which all resist both Mega Gardevoir's Fairy- and Psychic-type STAB moves, such as Mega Metagross, Magearna, and Mega Mawile.

Hyper Beam is Mega Gardevoir's main offensive tool, able to obliterate almost anything it touches super effectively in a single shot, such as Dragonite after Multiscale is broken, Mega Altaria, Kommo-o, and Mega Sableye, as well as knock out many frailer neutrally effective threats, such as offense Landorus-T, Porygon-Z, and Vivillon. Beware of the recharge after using Hyper Beam, so only use it once a KO is guaranteed. Calm Mind allows Mega Gardevoir to safely obtain the offensive capabilities needed in order to beat specially defensive threats such as bulky Tapu Lele, Tapu Fini, Primarina, Mega Blastoise, and Manaphy. It also allows Mega Gardevoir to improve its Special Defense while maintaining offensive pressure, which helps against all of the aforementioned threats. Hyper Voice allows Mega Gardevoir to hit past Substitutes from Pokemon such as Torrent Greninja, Serperior, and Jumpluff. Psyshock is Mega Gardevoir's Psychic-type STAB option, allowing it to hit Poison-types such as Mega Venusaur super effectively, as well as hitting Fire-types such as Rotom-H and Mega Charizard Y for neutral damage. Psyshock also has the added benefit of being a special attack that hits physically, which is essential in beating opposing bulky Calm Mind and Reflect users such as Waterium Z Tapu Fini and Clefable. Will-O-Wisp serves as a way to improve Mega Gardevoir's subpar physical bulk by halving the foe's Attack. This is indispensable in beating Pokemon such as Dragonite, Mega Tyranitar, Donphan, Golem, and non-Choice Scarf Sawk.

Set Details
========

240 HP EVs allow Mega Gardevoir to take a Hyper Beam from Choice Scarf Modest Porygon Z, along with improving Mega Gardevoir's general physical bulk in the process. Maximum Speed is run to allow Mega Gardevoir to outspeed Pokemon like non-Choice Scarf Haxorus, as well as anything slower, such as Tapu Lele and Vivillon. It also gives you a chance to beat other base 100 Speed Pokemon, like Mega Charizard Y and opposing Mega Gardevoir. The leftover 16 EVs go into Defense, improving Mega Gardevoir's chances against Poison Jab from Choice Scarf Haxorus and a Fake Out into Ice Punch from Mega Medicham. Mega Gardevoir is powerful enough as is to not require investment into Special Attack. Gardevoir runs Trace before Mega Evolving, allowing it to copy very useful abilities for certain matchups, such as Multiscale against Dragonite, Intimidate against Mega Gyarados and Landorus-T, and Volt Absorb against Electrium Z Zeraora.

Usage Tips
========

Mega Gardevoir should simply attack threats it can OHKO immediately or 2HKO before being knocked out, such as Porygon-Z, Zygarde-C, Mega Venusaur, and Mega Sableye, not wasting time going for overkill with Calm Mind, if it can avoid it. For slower physical attackers that Mega Gardevoir cannot immediately OHKO, such as Dragonite, Mega Tyranitar, and Rhyperior, as well as Sturdy users such as Donphan, Golem, and Sawk, immediately use Will-O-Wisp to disable their respective abilities, nullify their Attack, and put them in range of Hyper Beam the next turn. For slower special attackers that Mega Gardevoir can't immediately OHKO, such as Mew, Tapu Lele, and Primarina, use Calm Mind immediately in order to prevent them from fatally damaging you while increasing its Special Attack enough to OHKO them with Hyper Beam. Some Pokemon, like Tapu Lele and Mew, can have Calm Mind of their own; if they use that, use Hyper Voice into Hyper Beam or Psyshock after one Calm Mind against Tapu Lele and two for Mew to 2HKO them. Tapu Fini is a noteworthy matchup. It runs either Tapunium Z and Brine or its own Calm Mind in order to attempt to maintain its position against special setup Pokemon. Against the former variant one of two scenarios can occur; either Tapu Fini is offensive and thus will KO Mega Gardevoir with Brine turn 2, in which case the solution is to use Calm Mind turn 1 and use Hyper Beam after, or Tapu Fini will be specially defensive, in which case Mega Gardevoir can set up Calm Mind both turns and then OHKO with Hyper Beam turn 3. The same scenario with Tapu Lele plays out against Calm Mind Tapu Fini, although since Tapu Fini cannot learn Psyshock of its own, it is safe to boost alongside Tapu Fini, at which point you can either knock it out with Hyper Voice into Hyper Beam after you both reach +6 Special Attack and Special Defense, or Psyshock after getting to +2 to 2HKO. Mega Gyarados is a special case; while it may seem like a safer option to use Will-O-Wisp, this is actually not the optimal play, as this will risk a miss. Simply use Hyper Voice or Psyshock turn 1 and Hyper Beam after; this covers every single play a standard Mega Gyarados can make, as Hyper Beam OHKOes if they Mega Evolve. Against faster threats, such as Pheromosa and Mega Medicham, attacking immediately is usually the best course of action. Against Substitute users like Greninja and Serperior, attacking with Hyper Voice will be enough, either OHKOing or 2HKOing them before they can defeat you.

Team Options
========

Mega Gardevoir is susceptible to Steel-, Poison-, and Fire-type Pokemon, making Ground-types generally great options for teammates. Pokemon such as Landorus-T, Zygarde-C, Krookodile, Garchomp, and Excadrill, given the right individual sets, can all beat several prominent threats to Mega Gardevoir, such as Heatran, Magearna, Magnezone, and Mega Metagross. For most of these, Groundium Z should be run, although Pokemon like Landorus-T and Garchomp have a little leg room and can afford to run Choice items. Besides Ground-types, Fire-types with positive matchups against special attackers and other Fire-types work well with Mega Gardevoir. In particular, specially defensive Mega Charizard X can provide the backbone necessary to handle faster threats such as most Steel-types, Mega Charizard Y, Gunk Shot Greninja, Naganadel, Meloetta, and faster physical threats that can obliterate Mega Gardevoir, such as Mega Lopunny and Mega Pinsir. Heatran is also notable, as it can effectively check Mega Charizard X, Togekiss, and Mega Aggron. In return, Mega Gardevoir patches up the weaknesses these Pokemon share with bulky special attackers, like Tapu Fini, Tapu Lele, Primarina, and Mega Venusaur.

[STRATEGY COMMENTS]
Other Options
=============

Icy Wind, in tandem with moves like Hyper Beam, Focus Blast or Hidden Power Ground, and Taunt, is an excellent speed control option that is useful in reliably taking down Pokemon like stall Deoxys-S and Crustle. Most of these Pokemon, while weak to a standard Hyper Beam from Mega Gardevoir, have ways to get around this through moves and abilities, but by lowering their Speed, Mega Gardevoir can prevent any kind of counterplay on their end. Running Icy Wind + Hidden Power Ground or Focus Blast also enables Mega Gardevoir to lure and beat the ever-present Magnezone. Run Hidden Power Ground for consistency against Magnezone and Focus Blast if you want to be able to potentially knock out other Pokemon such as Heatran and Mega Aggron. Note that Mega Gardevoir must have at least 321 Speed, or 224 Speed EVs with a Timid nature, in order to outspeed Magnezone after Icy Wind every time, after being potentially hit by Zap Cannon. However, this sacrifices the raw power gained through Hyper Beam, which is important against Pokemon such as Porygon-Z, Landorus-T, and Incineroar. Mega Gardevoir can use other utility options such as Encore and Taunt, which both serve in essence to break down stall or bulky Pokemon such as Mega Slowbro, Jumpluff, and Porygon2 by preventing them from either setting up or recovering from damage dealt by Mega Gardevoir. Laser Focus along with Calm Mind allows Mega Gardevoir to blast through opposing Calm Mind users that Psyshock cannot reliably defeat, such as Magearna, Meloetta, and opposing Mega Gardevoir, as well as poke a hole through stall Pokemon such as Clefable and stall Necrozma. Mega Gardevoir can run a more defensive set using 120 HP / 252 Def / 136 Spe EVs with a Timid nature and Protect, Hyper Voice, and Psyshock in order to beat Pokemon like Mega Lopunny, Mega Blaziken, and Choice Band Garchomp, as well as being able to outspeed base 85 Speed Pokemon like Tapu Fini.

Checks and Counters
===================

**Steel-types**: Steel-type Pokemon unfortunately resist both of Mega Gardevoir's STAB options and simultaneously hit it back with powerful and unresisted or super effective damage. Beware of Pokemon such as Mega Metagross, Mega Mawile, Genesect, Mega Aggron, Celesteela, Ferrothorn, Heatran, and Jolly Kartana.

**Fast Physical Threats**: While Mega Gardevoir can take advantage of Will-O-Wisp to neutralize the damage dealt by slower, bulkier physical Pokemon, it will have a hard time dealing with most faster physical attackers that it encounters, as the damage dealt by the initial attack will often be too much for Mega Gardevoir to contend with. Pokemon such as Mega Charizard X, Groundium Z Garchomp, Choice Scarf Haxorus, Mega Pinsir, and Victini will easily punch a hole into Mega Gardevoir.

**Fast Poison-types**: Mega Gardevoir is weak to super effective Poison-type damage, so Pokemon like Naganadel, Nihilego, and Gunk Shot Greninja with reasonable Attack will be able to OHKO Mega Gardevoir.

**Exceptionally Specially Defensive Pokemon**: While Mega Gardevoir does have the ability to boost its Special Attack enough to allow it to beat most naturally specially defensive Pokemon, there are a few exceptions that are able to beat Mega Gardevoir before Mega Gardevoir can beat them. Z-Thunder Wave Togekiss can tank a Hyper Beam from speedy bulky Mega Gardevoir and follow up with Thunder Wave followed by Air Slash, and Meloetta will be able to set up Calm Mind alongside Mega Gardevoir while also being able to naturally tank Hyper Beam and take little damage from Psyshock, unlike Tapu Lele.

WoW doesn't matter in these matchups, since Gardevoir is slower and gets KO'd before it can even use it. Instead, bring up the fact that Gardevoir's Speed and bulk are the problems in matchups like these.

It also allows Mega Gardevoir to improve its Special Defense while maintaining offensive pressure, which helps against all the aforementioned threats, save for Mega Tyranitar. Why bring up Tyranitar if Calm Mind doesn't quite help for it? (If you're referring to the combination of WoW, CM, then Beam, mention that)
 • Psyshock is Mega Gardevoir's secondary STAB option, allowing it to hit Poison-Types such as Mega Venusaur super effectively, as well as hitting Fire-Types such as Rotom-H for neutral damage. Psyshock also has the added benefit of being a special attack that hits defensively, which is essential in beating Calm Mind users such as Tapu Lele and Waterium Tapu Fini.

Set Details

 • 240 HP EVs allows Mega Gardevoir to live a Hyper Beam from Choice Scarf Modest Porygon Z, along with improving Mega Gardevoir's general physical bulk in the process.
 • 32 Def EVs, in conjunction with the aforementioned 240 HP EVs, allows Mega Gardevoir to survive a Fake Out into an Ice Punch from Mega Medicham.
 • The 232 EVs in Speed allows Mega Gardevoir to outspeed non-Choice Scarf Haxorus, allowing Mega Gardevoir to OHKO it before it can even touch you.
 • The leftover 8 EVs go into Special Attack, as it does not change any relevant matchup by being invested elsewhere.
 • 0 Atk IVs are run in order to minimize Foul Play damage.
 • Mega Gardevoir runs Trace in its base form, allowing it to Trace very useful abilities for certain matchups, such as Multiscale against Dragonite, Intimidate against Mega Gyarados and Landorus-Therian, and Volt Absorb against Electrium Zeraora.

Usage Tips
========

 • Mega Gardevoir is physically frail and has no viable recovery options, so the goal of any Mega Gardevoir is to not waste any unnecessary setting up and simply attack when a Pokemon can be comfortably OHKOed or 2HKOed through Hyper Beam, 2 Psyshocks, or Psyshock into Hyper Beam.
 • So, naturally, Mega Gardevoir should simply attack threats it can OHKO immediately, or 2HKO before being knocked out, such as Porygon Z, Zygarde-C, Mega Venusaur, and Mega Sableye, not wasting time going for overkill.
 • For slower physical attackers that Mega Gardevoir cannot OHKO, such as Dragonite, Mega Tyranitar, and Rhyperior, as well as Sturdy users such as Donphan, Golem, and Sawk, immediately use Will-O-Wisp. This will nullify their Attack stat, avoiding the immediate OHKO that would occur. In the case of the Sturdy Pokemon and Dragonite, do not mega evolve Gardevoir - this is to preserve Trace and ensure that Mega Gardevoir cannot possibly be KOed Turn One. After a burn as been set, Mega Gardevoir will be free to either attack with Hyper Beam or set up with Calm Mind, depending on whether or not Mega Gardevoir can be KOed the next turn.
 • For slower special attackers, such as Tapu Lele, Primarina, and Tapu Fini, use Calm Mind Turn One in order neutralize any damage done by nasty Z-Moves or Choice Specs. While these particular three all have countermeasures to standard Calm Mind users, Mega Gardevoir can counter these measures. Tapu Lele will often run Calm Mind and / or Psyshock in its arsenal to edge out against other Calm Mind users and special attackers, but Mega Gardevoir has higher Special Attack and Speed, along with those two moves. Essentially, Calm Mind Turn One, which covers every option, save for Choice Scarf Tapu Lele (which is rare, and Mega Gardevoir can just attack immediately, as they don't run bulk). After this, either use Psyshock Turn Two if Tapu Lele also used Calm Mind, or attack with Hyper Beam if they attacked immediately. This will 2HKO or KO Tapu Lele, respectively, thanks to Tapu Lele's own Psychic Terrain boosting Mega Gardevoir's Psyshock. Against Primarina, they usually run Encore to trap setup Pokemon into their moves while Primarina attacks. However, as Primarina has no way of improving its own Special Attack, Mega Gardevoir can comfortably set up Calm Mind while Primarina attacks, as it will be unable to KO Mega Gardevoir. After Mega Gardevoir is free, it can just OHKO with Hyper Beam. Tapu Fini runs either Tapunium Z and Brine or its own Calm Mind in order to attempt to maintain its position against special setup Pokemon. However, against Guardian of Alola into Brine, one of two scenarios can occur; either Tapu Fini is offensive, and thus will KO with Brine Turn Two, in which case the solution is to Calm Mind Turn One and use Hyper Beam Turn Two, or Tapu Fini will be specially defensive, in which case Mega Gardevoir can Calm Mind both turns and then OHKO with Hyper Beam Turn Three. The same scenario with Tapu Lele plays out against Calm Mind Tapu Fini, although since Tapu Fini cannot learn Psyshock of its own, it is safe to set up alongside Tapu Fini until two boosts, at which point Psyshock will always 2HKO.
 • Mega Gyarados is a special case; while it may seem like a safer option to use Will-O-Wisp, this is actually not the most optimal play Explain that two turns of burn damage leaves scenarios where unmega'd Gyarados can survive Hyper Beam. Mega Gardevoir will Trace a regular Gyarados' Intimidate on the switch in, reducing Mega Gyarados' Attack by one stage. Thanks to this, Mega Gardevoir is safe from being knocked out after one Dragon Dance, meaning that Mega Gardevoir doesn't need to cut Mega Gyarados' Attack any further. Simply use Psyshock Turn One and Hyper Beam Turn Two; this covers every single play a standard Mega Gyarados can make, as Hyper Beam OHKOes if they Mega Evolve.
 • Against faster threats, such as Mega Diancie, Mega Medicham, and Greninja Greninja can tank Hyper Beam and 3HKO with (Modest) Specs HP Fire, CM (I think) is the optimal play here, since most Greninja don't run Specs Hydro Pump, and can only hope at best for hax with secondary effects, attacking immediately with Hyper Beam? is usually the best course of action. Some prediction can be involved against Pokemon that can utilize Substitute, but the fact of the matter is that Mega Gardevoir unaided simply will be OHKOed or 2HKOed by faster threats, leaving no time to realistically set up.

Team Options
========

 • Mega Gardevoir is susceptible to Steel-, Poison-, and Fire-Type Pokemon, and as such Ground-Types are generally great options for teammates for Mega Gardevoir. Pokemon such as Landorus-T, Zygarde-C, Krookodile, Garchomp and Excadrill, given the right individual sets, can all beat several prominent threats to Mega Gardevoir, such as Heatran, Magearna, Magnezone, and Mega Metagross. For most of these, Groundium Z should be run, although Pokemon like Landorus-T and Garchomp have a little leg room, and can afford to run Choice Items and even Assault Vest, in Landorus-T's case
 • Besides's Ground-Types, Fire-Types with positive matchups against special attackers and other Fire-Types work well with Mega Gardevoir. In particular, specially defensive Mega Charizard X can provide the backbone necessary to handle faster threats such as Mega Charizard Y, Greninja, and Naganadel, most Steel-Types, bulkier Psychic-Types that Mega Gardevoir cannot effectively break through, such as Meloetta, and faster physical threats that can obliterate Mega Gardevoir, such as Mega Lopunny and Mega Pinsir. Heatran is also notable, as it can effectively check Mega Charizard X, which Mega Charizard X obviously cannot always do, as well Pokemon such as Togekiss and Mega Aggron, which Mega Charizard X struggles against.

[STRATEGY COMMENTS]
Other Options
=============

 • Hyper Voice can be ran on Mega Gardevoir in order to avoid the recharge associated with Hyper Beam and to have safer matchups against substitute users such as Landorus and Disable Mega Alakazam keep the examples as relevant as possible, such as SubFlail Lopunny, Jumpluff, and Whimsicott, although against most other Pokemon, Hyper Voice can either OHKO them before they can use Substitute or the opposing Pokemon won't need Substitute to win the battle.
 • Mega Gardevoir can use other utility options such as Encore or Taunt, which both serve in essence to break down stall or bulky Pokemon such as Mega Slowbro, Jumpluff, and Porygon2, who can no longer either set up or recover from damage dealt by Mega Gardevoir.
 • Running Icy Wind + Hidden Power Ground or Focus Blast enables Mega Gardevoir to lure and beat the everpresent Magnezone by tracing the effects of Sturdy to avoid being knocked out from any attack Turn One, and Icy Wind to not only prevent an opposing Electroweb from leaving it slower than Magnezone, but to break Magnezone's opposing Sturdy. After Sturdy is broken, attack with Hidden Power Ground immediately. Note that Mega Gardevoir must have at least 321 Speed in order to outspeed Magnezone after Icy Wind every time, after being potentially hit by Zap Cannon. Icy Wind in general is also good for matchups like Dragonite, Jumpluff, Greninja, Crustle, Togekiss, Deo-S, etc.
 • Disable can also be utilized, paired with Protect or Substitute and 252 Speed with a Timid nature, in order to beat certain fringe Choice Item options such as Choice Specs Meloetta, Choice Specs or Choice Band Genesect, and Choice Specs Volcanion. However, against most other Choice Item users, Mega Gardevoir will either not tank the damage dealt before they can use Disable, or Disable will be inconsequential in the matchup.
 • Laser Focus along with Calm Mind allows Mega Gardevoir to blast through opposing Calm Mind users that Psyshock cannot reliably defeat, such as Magearna, Meloetta, and even opposing Mega Gardevoir, as well as poke a hole through stall Pokemon such as Clefable and stall Necrozma.
 • Mega Gardevoir can run a more defensive set using 120 HP / 252 Def / 136 Spe EVs with a Timid nature and Protect, Hyper Voice, and Psyshock in order to beat Pokemon like Mega Lopunny, Mega Blaziken, and Choice Band Garchomp, as well as being able to outspeed base 85 Speed Pokemon like Tapu Fini.

Chansey's natural bulk allows it to simply Seismic Toss Mega Gardevoir to death before Chansey can be knocked out, and Meloetta will be able to set up Calm Mind alongside Mega Gardevoir, while also being able to naturally tank Hyper Beam and take little damage from Psyshock, unlike Tapu Lele.

Mention its special bulk, maybe? I mean, it's noteworthy that it can live PZ's HBeam with appropriate investment, right? Also, mention that it can't do anything to defeat bulky Steel-type Pokemon which are pretty relevant in the tier, like Aegislash, Mega Metagross, and Magearna

 • Mega Gyarados is a special case; while it may seem like a safer option to use Will-O-Wisp, this is actually not the most optimal play, as this will risk Will-O-Wisp missing. Simply use Psyshock Turn One and Hyper Beam Turn Two; this covers every single play a standard Mega Gyarados can make, as Hyper Beam OHKOes if they Mega Evolve Turn One.
 • Against faster threats, such as Mega Diancie, Pheromosa, and Mega Medicham, attacking immediately is usually the best course of action. Some prediction can be involved against Pokemon that can utilize Substitute, but the fact of the matter is that Mega Gardevoir unaided simply will be OHKOed or 2HKOed by faster threats, leaving no time to realistically set up.

Team Options
========

For most of these, Groundium Z should be run, although Pokemon like Landorus-T and Garchomp have a little leg room, and can afford to run Choice Items and even Assault Vest, in Landorus-T's case (I can understand u want to be thorough in your analyses, but plz.... AV Landorus-T is so mind-bogglingly niche; a really specially defensive LandoT can eat an HP Ice from Zone, and if u r really bothered about Specs Zone, just suggest using Krookodile instead of Landorus-T)
(U could compress this point to say that while ZardX counters so-and-so Pokemon, Heatran counters some other Pokemon w/o bringing in the ZardX struggling part; that effectively means that ZardX is a suboptimal pair as compared to Heatran)
Also, add a point saying how Mega Gardevoir aids these Pokemon.

[STRATEGY COMMENTS]
Other Options
=============

 • Icy Wind, in tandem with coverage and utility moves like Hyper Beam, Focus Blast/Hidden Power Ground, and Taunt, is an excellent speed control option that is useful in reliably taking down Pokemon like Greninja, Jumpluff, stall Deoxys-S, and Crustle. Most of these Pokemon, while weak to a standard Hyper Beam from Mega Gardevoir, have ways to get around this through moves and abilities, but by lowering their Speed, Mega Gardevoir can prevent any kind of counterplay on their end. Running Icy Wind + Hidden Power Ground or Focus Blast also enables Mega Gardevoir to lure and beat the ever-present Magnezone by tracing the effects of Sturdy to avoid being knocked out from any attack Turn One, and Icy Wind to not only prevent an opposing Electroweb from leaving it slower than Magnezone, but to break Magnezone's opposing Sturdy. After Sturdy is broken, attack with Hidden Power Ground or Focus Blast immediately. Note that Mega Gardevoir must have at least 321 Speed in order to outspeed Magnezone after Icy Wind every time, after being potentially hit by Zap Cannon. (Don't suggest Focus Blast; HP Ground does the same as Focus Blast in beating Magnezone and Heatran, only more reliably)
 • Hyper Voice can be ran on Mega Gardevoir in order to avoid the recharge associated with Hyper Beam and to have safer matchups against substitute users such as Substitute + Flail Mega Lopunny, Landorus and Whimsicott. Against most other Pokemon, Hyper Voice can either OHKO them before they can use Substitute or the opposing Pokemon won't need Substitute to win the battle. However, this sacrifices the raw power gained through Hyper Beam, which is important against Pokemon such as Porygon Z, Landorus-Therian, and ...?
 • Mega Gardevoir can use other utility options such as Encore or Taunt, which both serve in essence to break down stall or bulky Pokemon such as Mega Slowbro, Jumpluff, and Porygon2, who can no longer either set up or recover from damage dealt by Mega Gardevoir.
 • Disable can also be utilized, paired with Protect or Substitute and 252 Speed with a Timid nature, in order to beat certain fringe Choice Item options such as Choice Specs Meloetta, Choice Specs or Choice Band Genesect, and Choice Specs Volcanion. However, against most other Choice Item users, Mega Gardevoir will either not tank the damage dealt before they can use Disable, or Disable will be inconsequential in the matchup(You are doing no one a favor by suggesting this set; it is so bad, and Mega Gardevoir is so slow that this just isn't worth it)
 • Laser Focus along with Calm Mind allows .Mega Gardevoir to blast through opposing Calm Mind users that Psyshock cannot reliably defeat, such as Magearna, Meloetta, and even opposing Mega Gardevoir, as well as poke a hole through stall Pokemon such as Clefable and stall Necrozma.
(Mention the drawbacks of this set being very vulnerable to faster attackers like Haxorus and ZardX)
 • (If u like it, u could suggest a Trick Room Encore Mega Gardevoir; I heard it beat Zards reliably)
Checks and Counters
===================

**Steel-Types**: Steel-type Pokemon can unfortunately resist both of Mega Gardevoir's STAB options and simultaneously hit Mega Gardevoir back with powerful and unresisted or super effective damage. Beware of Pokemon such as Magearna, Mega Metagross, Mega Mawile, Magnezone, Genesect, Mega Aggron, Celesteela, Ferrothorn, Heatran and Kartana.

**Fast and Fire-type Physical Threats**: While Mega Gardevoir can take advantage of Will-O-Wisp to neutralize the damage dealt by slower, bulkier physical Pokemon, Mega Gardevoir will have a hard time dealing with most faster physical attackers that it encounters, as the damage dealt by the initial attack will often be too much for Mega Gardevoir to contend with. Pokemon such as Mega Charizard X, Groundium Garchomp, Choice Scarf Haxorus, Mega Pinsir and Victini will easily punch a hole into Mega Gardevoir. (I think stuff like Mega Charizard X, Incineroar, and Darmanitan deserves a mention here)

**Fast Poison-Types**: Mega Gardevoir is weak to super effective Poison-Type damage, and thus Pokemon like Naganadel, Nihilego, and Gunk Shot Greninja with reasonable Attack investment will be able to OHKO Mega Gardevoir.

**Exceptionally specially defensive Pokemon**: While Mega Gardevoir does have the ability to set up its Special Attack enough to allow it to beat most naturally specially defensive Pokemon, there are a few exceptions that are able to beat Mega Gardevoir before Mega Gardevoir can beat them.

(I think Chansey is not a goner matchup; 104 HP investment allows you to tank 3 SToss from Chansey, and Taunt+CMind+Psyshock, when played correctly, will win against Chansey, since +2 252 SpA Gardevoir-Mega Psyshock vs. 248 HP / 252+ Def Eviolite Chansey: 414-487 (58.8 - 69.2%) -- guaranteed 2HKO.

And same with Meloetta. You can just Laser Focus into HBeam, and you win since 140+ SpA Pixilate Gardevoir-Mega Hyper Beam vs. 252 HP / 160 SpD Meloetta on a critical hit: 385-454 (95.2 - 112.3%) -- 68.8% chance to OHKO)

[OVERVIEW]

 • Mega Gardevoir is an admirable offensive nuke in the 1v1 metagame, able to set up and one-shot several bulky Pokemon such as Mega Gyarados, Tapu Lele, and Zygarde-C with a Pixilate boosted Hyper Beam.
 • Besides Hyper Beam, Mega Gardevoir also has access to tools such as Psyshock and Hyper Voice to aid in coverage against Poison-Type Pokemon and Substitute users, respectively.
 • Mega Gardevoir also has access to usefyl utility options in the form of Will-O-Wisp and Calm Mind, which can be very useful in breaking through physically offensive threats such as Dragonite, Donphan, Golem, bulkier special attackers such as Tapu Lele, Primarina and Tapu Fini.
 • Before Mega Evolving, Gardevoir has access to Trace, allowing Gardevoir to acquire the ability of its opponent, which is indispensable against certain matchups such as Dragonite and Mega Gyarados.
 • Unfortunately, its naturally frail demeanor and middling speed leaves Mega Gardevoir quite vulnerable to faster physical attacks from the likes of Mega Lopunny, Garchomp, Mega Pinsir and Haxorus. (I think its important to note that it specifically loses to faster physical attackers because it can deal with slower ones with willowisp, or just ohko them before they can attack)
 • It also has a terrible matchup against most of the Steel-types in the metagame, who can all resist both Mega Gardevoir's Fairy- and Psychic-type STAB moves, such as Mega Metagross, Magearna, and Mega Mawile.

move 4: Will-O-Wisp

[SET COMMENTS]
Moves
========

 • Hyper Beam is Mega Gardevoir's main offensive tool, able to obliterate almost anything it touches super effectively in a single shot, such as Mega Gyarados, Dragonite (after Multiscale is broken), Mega Altaria, Kommo-o, and Mega Sableye, as well as knock out many frailer neutrally effective threats, such as offense Landorus-T, Porygon Z, Vivillon, and Mega Diancie (I dont think this is a worthy mention, most diancies wouldnt mega to preserve defensive stats) . Beware of the recharge after using Hyper Beam, so only use it once a KO is guaranteed.
 • Calm Mind allows Mega Gardevoir to safely obtain the offensive capabilities needed in order to beat the specially defensive threats such as bulky Tapu Lele, Tapu Fini, Primarina, Mega Blastoise, and Manaphy. It also allows Mega Gardevoir to improve its Special Defense while maintaining offensive pressure, which helps against all the aforementioned threats.
 • Psyshock is Mega Gardevoir's secondary STAB option, allowing it to hit Poison-Types such as Mega Venusaur super effectively, as well as hitting Fire-Types such as Rotom-H for neutral damage. Psyshock also has the added benefit of being a special attack that hits physically defensively, which is essential in beating Calm Mind users such as Tapu Lele and Waterium Tapu Fini.
 • Will-O-Wisp serves as as way to improve Mega Gardevoir's subpar physical Defense by halving an opponent's Attack. This is indispensable in beating Pokemon such as Dragonite, Mega Tyranitar, Donphan, Golem, and non-Choice Scarf Sawk.
Set Details
========

 • 240 HP EVs allows Mega Gardevoir to live a Hyper Beam from Choice Scarf Modest Porygon Z, along with improving Mega Gardevoir's general physical bulk in the process.
 • 32 Def EVs, in conjunction with the aforementioned 240 HP EVs, allows Mega Gardevoir to survive a Fake Out into an Ice Punch from Mega Medicham. is this really why these evs are run? and if so... i don't think they're notable.
 • The 232 EVs in Speed allows Mega Gardevoir to outspeed non-Choice Scarf Haxorus, allowing Mega Gardevoir to OHKO it before it can even touch you. note some other examples that this outspeeds, landorus-t, poryz, lele etc.
Usage Tips
========

 • Mega Gardevoir is physically frail and has no viable recovery options, so the goal of any Mega Gardevoir is to not waste any unnecessary turns setting up and simply attack when a Pokemon can be comfortably OHKOed or 2HKOed through Hyper Beam, 2 Psyshocks, or Psyshock into Hyper Beam.
After a burn has been set, Mega Gardevoir will be free to either attack with Hyper Beam or set up with Calm Mind, depending on whether or not Mega Gardevoir can be KOed the next turn.
(this whole section kind of makes me uncomfortable. I get that you want to be as detailed as possible but I feel like this is overkill. this should be more concise. Maybe just say 'Against slower specially offensive opponents, Calm Mind twice, and if you can OHKO with Hyper Beam, then do so. If not, chip away with Psyshock until Hyper Beam can safely finish them off.)
 • Mega Gyarados is a special case; while it may seem like a safer option to use Will-O-Wisp, this is actually not the most optimal play, as this will risk Will-O-Wisp missing. Mega Gardevoir will Trace a regular Gyarados' Intimidate on the switch in, reducing Mega Gyarados' Attack by one stage. Thanks to this, Mega Gyarados will not be able to OHKO Mega Gardevoir after a Dragon Dance. (again, this part feels too wordy so that its actually more confusing or unnecessary) Mega Gardevoir is safe from being knocked out after one Dragon Dance, meaning that Mega Gardevoir doesn't need to cut Mega Gyarados' Attack any further.

 • Mega Gardevoir is susceptible to Steel-, Poison-, and Fire-Type Pokemon, and as such Ground-Types are generally great options for teammates for Mega Gardevoir. For most of these, Groundium Z should be run, although Pokemon like Landorus-T and Garchomp have a little leg room, and can afford to run Choice Items and even Assault Vest, in Landorus-T's case. (Excadrill can't beat Balloon Heatran, and Lando-T and Garchomp can struggle vs Metagross.)
 • Besides's Ground-Types, Fire-Types with positive matchups against special attackers and other Fire-Types work well with Mega Gardevoir. Heatran is also notable, as it can effectively check Mega Charizard X, which Mega Charizard X obviously cannot always do, as well Pokemon such as Togekiss and Mega Aggron, which Mega Charizard X struggles against. (too many words trying to say the same thing. it also makes it sound like you're finding a partner for CharX., as ur listing out all the mons that Heatran beats that zardx doesnt. Keep it focussed on Mega Gardevoir and also point out what mega gardevoir does for these mons.)
(Also add in what Mega Gardevoir does for these mons in return)

 • Icy Wind, in tandem with coverage and utility moves like Hyper Beam, Focus Blast/Hidden Power Ground, and Taunt, is an excellent speed control option that is useful in reliably taking down Pokemon like Greninja, Jumpluff (icy wind doesnt help. besides gardevoir has hyper voice), stall Deoxys-S, and Crustle. After Sturdy is broken, attack with Hidden Power Ground or Focus Blast immediately. Note that Mega Gardevoir must have at least 321 Speed in order to outspeed Magnezone after Icy Wind every time, after being potentially hit by Zap Cannon. (what is the purpose of Focus Blast? You haven't mentioned anything notable that it does that HP Ground doesn't do. I think also mention that HP ground gives garde a better Heatran matchup)
 • Hyper Voice can be ran on Mega Gardevoir in order to avoid the recharge associated with Hyper Beam and to have safer matchups against substitute users such as Substitute + Flail Mega Lopunny, Landorus-T and Whimsicott. Against most other Pokemon, Hyper Voice can either OHKO them before they can use Substitute or the opposing Pokemon won't need Substitute to win the battle. (what are you trying to say with this sentence? it doesnt seem to mean anything) However, this sacrifices the raw power gained through Hyper Beam, which is important against Pokemon such as Porygon Z, Landorus-Therian, and (blank space says hello.)

However, against most other Choice Item users, Mega Gardevoir will either not tank the damage dealt before they can use Disable, or Disable will be inconsequential in the matchup. (given that these basically don't work i don't think disable is relevant enough to be used. up to your discretion though)
(stall necrozma as in Calm Mind Necrozma? I think you can just lump this one in with the previous list)
Checks and Counters
===================

**Steel-Types**: Steel-type Pokemon can unfortunately resist both of Mega Gardevoir's STAB options and simultaneously hit Mega Gardevoir back with powerful and unresisted or super effective damage. Beware of Pokemon such as Magearna (not sure if this is the best example because I think Gardevoir has the upper hand with Taunt and Calm Mind, as most Magearna solely run Fleur Cannon as their only attacking move), Mega Metagross, Mega Mawile, Magnezone, Genesect, Mega Aggron, Celesteela, Ferrothorn, Heatran (this matchup is also iffy, because most heatran dont run flash cannon and garde traces flash fire) and Kartana.

**Fast Physical Threats**: While Mega Gardevoir can take advantage of Will-O-Wisp to neutralize the damage dealt by slower, bulkier physical Pokemon, Mega Gardevoir will have a hard time dealing with most faster physical attackers that it encounters, as the damage dealt by the initial attack will often be too much for Mega Gardevoir to contend with. Implemented, tho a few things of note:
--> "32 Def EVs, in conjunction with the aforementioned 240 HP EVs, allows Mega Gardevoir to survive a Fake Out into an Ice Punch from Mega Medicham. is this really why these evs are run? and if so... i don't think they're notable"

This is run because there's no reason not to. It's a minimal investment to beat one more matchup, as well as nearly guaranteeing you beat scarf pjab haxorus, although that's not very common. Putting the evs in the special attack gains nothing. In 1v1 you should always be saying if EVs do or do not do anything, just because of the nature of 1v1 and how important eving is. Although I did mean to say 28 evs

--> (this whole section kind of makes me uncomfortable.

Saying this would be incorrect against several variants of Lele and Fini. I think what I will do instead is separate slow special attackers and those two so they can get special attention.

--> (Excadrill can't beat Balloon Heatran, and Lando-T and Garchomp can struggle vs Metagross.)

They aren't supposed to be perfectly aligning matchups, just examples of Ground- and Steel-type mons.

--> Jumpluff (icy wind doesnt help. besides gardevoir has hyper voice),

Gardevoir has infiltrator after trace

--> . I think also mention that HP ground gives garde a better Heatran matchup)

8 SpA Gardevoir-Mega Hidden Power Ground vs. 72 HP / 0 SpD Heatran: 256-304 (75 - 89.1%) -- guaranteed 2HKO This is the lowest bulk Heatran in spreads, after Icy Wind you won't do enough

-->(stall necrozma as in Calm Mind Necrozma? I think you can just lump this one in with the previous list)

unsure what this means. The other mons were bulky offense, Necrozma is basically stall until stored power does enough. V different

-->(not sure if this is the best example because I think Gardevoir has the upper hand with Taunt and Calm Mind, as most Magearna solely run Fleur Cannon as their only attacking move)

This is more of a 50/50, and requires you to run calm mind and taunt, which isn't really a standard combination

--> Heatran (this matchup is also iffy, because most heatran dont run flash cannon and garde traces flash fire)

Flash Cannon 70.825%

-->(doesnt melo lose to Taunt Gardevoir?)

Nah, they just normalium on your taunt, or use z-celebrate

my stuff is bolded

Hyper Beam is Mega Gardevoir's main offensive tool, able to obliterate almost anything it touches super effectively in a single shot, such as Mega Gyarados, Dragonite (after Multiscale is broken), Mega Altaria, Kommo-o, and Mega Sableye, as well as knock out many frailer neutrally effective threats, such as offense Landorus-T, Porygon Z, and Vivillon. Beware of the recharge after using Hyper Beam, so only use it once a KO is guaranteed. Calm Mind allows Mega Gardevoir to safely obtain the offensive capabilities needed in order to beat the specially defensive threats such as bulky Tapu Lele, Tapu Fini, Primarina, Mega Blastoise, and Manaphy. It also allows Mega Gardevoir to improve its Special Defense while maintaining offensive pressure, which helps against all the aforementioned threats. Psyshock is Mega Gardevoir's secondary STAB option, allowing it to hit Poison-Types such as Mega Venusaur super effectively, as well as hitting Fire-Types such as Rotom-H for neutral damage. Psyshock also has the added benefit of being a special attack that hits physically, which is essential in beating Calm Mind users such as Tapu Lele and Waterium Tapu Fini. Will-O-Wisp serves as as way to improve Mega Gardevoir's subpar physical Defense by halving an opponent's Attack. This is indispensable in beating Pokemon such as Dragonite, Mega Tyranitar, Donphan, Golem, and non-Choice Scarf Sawk.

240 HP EVs allows Mega Gardevoir to live a Hyper Beam from Choice Scarf Modest Porygon Z, along with improving Mega Gardevoir's general physical bulk in the process. 28 Def EVs, in conjunction with the aforementioned 240 HP EVs, allows Mega Gardevoir to survive a Fake Out into an Ice Punch from Mega Medicham. The 232 EVs in Speed allows Mega Gardevoir to outspeed non-Choice Scarf Haxorus, allowing Mega Gardevoir said "allowing mgarde" twice in a row basically, change up wording as it is confusing to OHKO it before it can even touch you, as well as anything slower, such as the non-Choice Scarf variants of Landorus-T and Porygon-Z. The leftover 8 EVs go into Special Attack, as it does not change any relevant matchup by being invested elsewhere. 0 Atk IVs are run in order to minimize Foul Play damage. Mega Gardevoir runs Trace in its base form, allowing it to Trace very useful abilities for certain matchups, such as Multiscale against Dragonite, Intimidate against Mega Gyarados and Landorus-Therian, and Volt Absorb against Electrium Zeraora.

Usage Tips
========

Mega Gardevoir is physically frail and has no viable recovery options, so the goal of any Mega Gardevoir is to not waste any unnecessary turns setting up and simply attack when a Pokemon can be comfortably OHKOed or 2HKOed through Hyper Beam, 2 Psyshocks, or Psyshock into Hyper Beam. So, naturally, Mega Gardevoir should simply attack threats it can OHKO immediately, or 2HKO before being knocked out, such as Porygon Z, Zygarde-C, Mega Venusaur, and Mega Sableye, not wasting time going for overkill. For slower physical attackers that Mega Gardevoir cannot immediately OHKO, such as Dragonite, Mega Tyranitar, and Rhyperior, as well as Sturdy users such as Donphan, Golem, and Sawk, immediately use Will-O-Wisp. This will nullify their Attack stat, avoiding the immediate OHKO that would otherwise occur. In the case of the Sturdy Pokemon and Dragonite, do not mega evolve Gardevoir - this is to preserve Trace and ensure that Mega Gardevoir cannot possibly be KOed Turn One. this really isnt helpful as for golem / donphan as they have priority, so tracing sturdy does nothing. After a burn has been set, Mega Gardevoir will be free to either attack with Hyper Beam. finish this sentence For slower special attackers that you can't immediately OHKO, such as Mew, Tapu Lele, and Primarina, Calm Mind immediately in order to prevent these Pokemon from fatally damaging you while increasing your Special Attack enough to OHKO them with Hyper Beam. Some Pokemon, like Tapu Lele and Mew, will have Calm Mind of their own; if they use that, use Psyshock after one Calm Mind against Tapu Lele and two for Mew, so Psyshock can do enough damage to 2HKO. this isn't always the safest option to next kills, some leles can bulk it. just suggest to keep going for one more for each of the suggested. also, mew doesn't ever run calmmind, so dont say it does Tapu Fini is a noteworthy matchup. It runs either Tapunium Z and Brine or its own Calm Mind in order to attempt to maintain its position against special setup Pokemon. Mega Gyarados is a special case; while it may seem like a safer option to use Will-O-Wisp, this is actually not the most optimal play, as this will risk Will-O-Wisp missing. Mega Gardevoir will Trace a regular Gyarados' Intimidate on the switch in, reducing Mega Gyarados' Attack by one stage. Thanks to this, Mega Gardevoir doesn't need to use Will-O-Wisp. Simply use Psyshock Turn One and Hyper Beam Turn Two; this covers every single play a standard Mega Gyarados can make, as Hyper Beam OHKOes if they Mega Evolve Turn One. Gyarados is more likely to flinch you once and then kill you then for you to miss will o. Against faster threats, such as like Pheromosa and Mega Medicham, attacking immediately is usually the best course of action. Some prediction can be involved against Pokemon that can utilize Substitute, but the fact of the matter is that Mega Gardevoir unaided simply will be OHKOed or 2HKOed by faster threats, leaving no time to realistically set up.

Team Options
========

Mega Gardevoir is susceptible to Steel-, Poison-, and Fire-Type Pokemon, and as such making Ground-Types are generally great options for teammates for Mega Gardevoir. Pokemon such as Landorus-T, Zygarde-C, Krookodile, Garchomp and Excadrill, given the right individual sets, can all beat several prominent threats to Mega Gardevoir, such as Heatran, Magearna, Magnezone, and Mega Metagross. For most of these, Groundium Z should be run, although Pokemon like Landorus-T and Garchomp have a little leg room, and can afford to run Choice Items and even Assault Vest no plz av on both of these is awful, in Landorus-T's case. Besides Ground-Types, Fire-Types with positive matchups against special attackers and other Fire-Types work well with Mega Gardevoir. In particular, specially defensive Mega Charizard X can provide the backbone necessary to handle faster threats such as Mega Charizard Y, Greninja (garde doesnt struggle with greninja), and Naganadel, along with most Steel-Types, bulkier Psychic-Types that Mega Gardevoir cannot effectively break through, such as Meloetta, and faster physical threats that can obliterate Mega Gardevoir, such as Mega Lopunny and Mega Pinsir. This is an extremely long sentence, break it up into different parts Heatran is also notable, as it can effectively check Mega Charizard X, Togekiss, and Mega Aggron. In return, Mega Gardevoir patches up the weakness these Pokemon share with bulky special attackers, like Tapu Fini, Tapu Lele, Primarina, and Mega Venusaur.

[STRATEGY COMMENTS]
Other Options
=============

Icy Wind, in tandem with coverage and utility moves like Hyper Beam (hyper beam isnt coverage or utility), Focus Blast/Hidden Power Ground, and Taunt, is an excellent speed control option that is useful in reliably taking down Pokemon like Greninja, Jumpluff (while Gardevoir has not mega evolved), stall Deoxys-S, and Crustle. Run Hidden Power Ground for consistency against Magnezone, or Focus Blast if you want to be able to potentially knock out other Pokemon such as non-Choice Scarf Excadrill and Mega Steelix. what is this mon, ive never heard of it or seen it and most probably neither has the reader Note that Mega Gardevoir must have at least 321 Speed in order to outspeed Magnezone after Icy Wind every time, after being potentially hit by Zap Cannon. Hyper Voice can be ran on Mega Gardevoir in order to avoid the recharge associated with Hyper Beam and to have safer matchups against substitute users such as Substitute + Flail Mega Lopunny, both Landorus formes, and Whimsicott. However, this sacrifices the raw power gained through Hyper Beam, which is important against Pokemon such as Porygon Z, Landorus-Therian, and Incineroar. it shouldnt need taunt to beat incineroar, it actually worsens the matchup to use it because it then becomes a 50/50 Mega Gardevoir can use other utility options such as Encore or Taunt, which both serve in essence to break down stall or bulky Pokemon such as Mega Slowbro, Jumpluff, and Porygon2, who can no longer either set up or recover from damage dealt by Mega Gardevoir. Laser Focus along with Calm Mind allows Mega Gardevoir to blast through opposing Calm Mind users that Psyshock cannot reliably defeat, such as Magearna, Meloetta, and even opposing Mega Gardevoir, as well as poke a hole through stall Pokemon such as Clefable and stall Necrozma.

===================

**Steel-Types**: Steel-type Pokemon can unfortunately resist both of Mega Gardevoir's STAB options and simultaneously hit Mega Gardevoir back with powerful and unresisted or super effective damage. Beware of Pokemon such as Magearna, Mega Metagross, Mega Mawile, Magnezone, Genesect, Mega Aggron, Celesteela, Ferrothorn, Heatran and Kartana. this wouldnt live things from garde, so include that it can be OHKOed or something like that by steel types (mega metagross could also fall into here)

Pokemon such as Mega Charizard X, Groundium Garchomp, Choice Scarf Haxorus, Mega Pinsir, (I added a comma here) and Victini will easily punch a hole into Mega Gardevoir.

**Fast Poison-Types**: Mega Gardevoir is weak to super effective a bit redundant Poison-Type damage, and thus Pokemon like Naganadel, Nihilego, and Gunk Shot Greninja with reasonable Attack will be able to OHKO Mega Gardevoir.

Chansey's natural bulk allows it to simply Seismic Toss Mega Gardevoir to death before Chansey can be knocked out, I thought psyshock can KO chansey and Meloetta will be able to set up Calm Mind alongside Mega Gardevoir, while also being able to naturally tank Hyper Beam and take little damage from Psyshock, unlike Tapu Lele. psyshock should also be able to deal with non laser focus melos. mention laser focus because it should lose to your base set otherwise.

| Calm Mind 30.219% (Mew)

+1 8 SpA Gardevoir-Mega Psyshock vs. 248 HP / 88 Def Tapu Lele in Psychic Terrain: 171-202 (49.8 - 58.8%) -- 99.6% chance to 2HKO This is the bulkiest Lele spread thats run. By attacking immediately, it prevents Tapu Lele from using Psyshock of their own, which will 2hko you, while taking advantage of the psychic terrain.

Hyper Beam OHKOes if they Mega Evolve Turn One. Gyarados is more likely to flinch you once and then kill you then for you to miss will o.

Part of the reason you also don't will o is because if you do will o on their dragon dance, they get multiple chances to flinch you, as they will outspeed. By Psyshocking, you don't give them that opportunity. its the risk of missing will o plus multiple critflinch chances vs one chance to critflinch.

and even Assault Vest no plz av on both of these is awful,

I mean, we're including it as an OO for Lando T to beat threats like Special Dnite. It isn't that bad. I meant for the sentence to only be talking about Garchomp

, Greninja (garde doesnt struggle with greninja),

Ice Beam 78.736% |
Hydro Cannon 77.371%
Dark Pulse 61.662%
Grass Knot 48.179%
Hidden Power Fire 23.651%
Gunk Shot 15.535%
Water Shuriken 14.678%
Shadow Sneak 11.266%
Extrasensory 11.179%
Substitute 8.943%
Hydro Pump 8.049%
Hidden Power Steel 6.001%
Blizzard 4.185%
Work Up 4.147%
Taunt 3.135%
Hidden Power Electric 3.071%
Rock Slide 2.867%
| Other 17.345%

I lose very often. At the best, its an unreliable matchup. But I'll specify by saying 'Gunk Shot Greninja'.

Incineroar. it shouldnt need taunt to beat incineroar, it actually worsens the matchup to use it because it then becomes a 50/50

I was talking about matchups lost because you run Hyper Voice instead of Hyper Beam.

Kartana. this wouldnt live things from garde, so include that it can be OHKOed or something like that by steel types (mega metagross could also fall into here)

No idea how Gard beats Mega Metagross. Changed to Jolly Kartana.

while also being able to naturally tank Hyper Beam and take little damage from Psyshock, unlike Tapu Lele. psyshock should also be able to deal with non laser focus melos. mention laser focus because it should lose to your base set otherwise.

Non. Melo runs psyshock as well, it just needs to calm mind alongside you till its at +1 or +2, depending on spa, where it will KO you with Psyshock into z-hyper beam, or it can just shadow ball spam. Doesn't need Z-Laser Focus at all, and for Mega Gardevoir its a roll to kill with Psyshock into Hyper Beam, assuming you Psyshock on the turn they psyshock, with creates even more 50/50s if they calm mind instead.

Removed Chansey and put Z-Thunder Wave Togekiss instead.

Will-O-Wisp serves as as way to improve Mega Gardevoir's subpar physical Defense bulk by halving an opponent's Attack. This is indispensable in beating Pokemon such as Dragonite, Mega Tyranitar, Donphan, Golem, and non-Choice Scarf Sawk.

240 HP EVs allows allow Mega Gardevoir to live take a Hyper Beam from Choice Scarf Modest Porygon Z, along with improving Mega Gardevoir's general physical bulk in the process. 28 Defense EVs, in conjunction with the aforementioned 240 HP EVs, allows further allow Mega Gardevoir to survive a Fake Out into an followed by Ice Punch from Mega Medicham. The 232 EVs in Speed allows allow Mega Gardevoir to outspeed non-Choice Scarf Haxorus and OHKO it before it can even touch you it, as well as anything slower, such as Tapu Lele and Vivillon. The leftover 8 EVs go into Special Attack, as it does not change any relevant matchup by being invested elsewhere. 0 Atk IVs are run in order to minimize Foul Play damage. (standard) Mega Gardevoir runs Trace in its base form before Mega Evolving, allowing it to Trace copy very useful abilities for certain matchups, such as Multiscale against Dragonite, Intimidate against Mega Gyarados and Landorus-Therian, and Volt Absorb against Electrium Z Zeraora.

Usage Tips
========

Mega Gardevoir is physically frail and has no viable recovery options, so the goal of any Mega Gardevoir is to not waste any unnecessary turns setting up and simply attack when a Pokemon can be comfortably OHKOed or 2HKOed through Hyper Beam, two Psyshocks, or Psyshock into followed by Hyper Beam. So, naturally, Mega Gardevoir should simply attack threats it can OHKO immediately (RC) or 2HKO before being knocked out, such as Porygon Z, Zygarde-C, Mega Venusaur, and Mega Sableye, not wasting time going for overkill. For slower physical attackers that Mega Gardevoir cannot immediately OHKO, such as Dragonite, Mega Tyranitar, and Rhyperior, as well as Sturdy users such as Donphan, Golem, and Sawk, immediately use Will-O-Wisp. This will nullify their Attack stat, avoiding the immediate OHKO that would occur. In the case of Dragonite, do not Mega Evolve Gardevoir - this is in order to preserve Trace, or, rather, the Traced Multiscale (RC) and ensure that Mega Gardevoir cannot possibly be KOed Turn One turn 1. After a burn has been set Dragonite has been burned, Mega Gardevoir will be free to attack with Hyper Beam. For slower special attackers that you Mega Gardevoir can't immediately OHKO, such as Mew, Tapu Lele, and Primarina, use Calm Mind immediately in order to prevent these Pokemon them from fatally damaging you while increasing your its Special Attack enough to OHKO them with Hyper Beam. Some Pokemon, like Tapu Lele and Mew, will have Calm Mind of their own; if they use that, use Psyshock after one Calm Mind against Tapu Lele and two for Mew, so Psyshock can do enough damage to and 2HKO them. Tapu Fini is a noteworthy matchup. It runs either Tapunium Z and Brine or its own Calm Mind in order to attempt to maintain its position against special setup Pokemon. However, Against Guardian of Alola into Brine, the former variant one of two scenarios can occur; either Tapu Fini is offensive (RC) and thus will KO Mega Gardevoir with Brine Turn Two turn 2, in which case the solution is to use Calm Mind Turn One turn 1 and use Hyper Beam Turn Two after, or Tapu Fini will be specially defensive, in which case Mega Gardevoir can set up Calm Mind both turns and then OHKO with Hyper Beam Turn Three turn 3. The same scenario with Tapu Lele plays out against Calm Mind Tapu Fini, although since Tapu Fini cannot learn Psyshock of its own, it is safe to set up two boosts alongside Tapu Fini until two boosts, at which point Psyshock will always 2HKO. Mega Gyarados is a special case; while it may seem like a safer option to use Will-O-Wisp, this is actually not the most optimal play, as this will risk Will-O-Wisp missing a miss. Thanks to Mega Gardevoir will Trace Tracing a regular Gyarados's Intimidate on the switch in, reducing Mega Gyarados' Attack by one stage. Thanks to this, Mega Gardevoir doesn't need to use Will-O-Wisp. Simply use Psyshock turn One 1 and Hyper Beam Turn Two after; this covers every single play a standard Mega Gyarados can make, as Hyper Beam OHKOes if they Mega Evolve Turn One right away. Against faster threats, such as Pheromosa and Mega Medicham, attacking immediately is usually the best course of action. Some prediction can be involved against Pokemon that can utilize Substitute, but the fact of the matter is that Mega Gardevoir unaided simply will be OHKOed or 2HKOed by faster threats, leaving no time to realistically set up.

Team Options
========

Mega Gardevoir is susceptible to Steel-, Poison-, and Fire-type Pokemon, making Ground-types generally great options for teammates for Mega Gardevoir. Pokemon such as Landorus-T, Zygarde-C, Krookodile, Garchomp and Excadrill, given the right individual sets, can all beat several prominent threats to Mega Gardevoir, such as Heatran, Magearna, Magnezone, and Mega Metagross. For most of these, Groundium Z should be run, although Pokemon like Landorus-T and Garchomp have a little leg room (RC) and can afford to run Choice items. In return, Mega Gardevoir patches up the weakness these Pokemon share with bulky special attackers, like Tapu Fini, Tapu Lele, Primarina, and Mega Venusaur.

Other Options
=============

Icy Wind, in tandem with moves like Hyper Beam, Focus Blast or Hidden Power Ground, and Taunt (RC) is an excellent speed control option that is useful in reliably taking down Pokemon like Greninja, Jumpluff (while Gardevoir has not mega evolved), stall Deoxys-S, and Crustle. Most of these Pokemon, while weak to a standard Hyper Beam from Mega Gardevoir, have ways to get around this through moves and abilities, but by lowering their Speed, Mega Gardevoir can prevent any kind of counterplay on their end. Running Icy Wind + Hidden Power Ground or Focus Blast also enables Mega Gardevoir to lure and beat the ever-present Magnezone by Tracing the effects of Sturdy to avoid being knocked out from any attack turn One 1 (RC) and using Icy Wind to not only prevent an opposing Electroweb from leaving it slower than Magnezone, but to also break Magnezone's opposing Sturdy. After Sturdy is broken, attack with Hidden Power Ground or Focus Blast immediately. Run Hidden Power Ground for consistency against Magnezone (RC) or and Focus Blast if you want to be able to potentially knock out other Pokemon such as non-Choice Scarf Excadrill and Mega Aggron. Note that Mega Gardevoir must have at least 321 Speed (more helpful to express it in EVs) in order to outspeed Magnezone after Icy Wind every time, after being potentially hit by Zap Cannon. Hyper Voice can be ran run on Mega Gardevoir in order to avoid the recharge associated with Hyper Beam and to have safer matchups against Substitute users such as Substitute + Flail Mega Lopunny, both Landorus formes, and Whimsicott. However, this sacrifices the raw power gained through Hyper Beam, which is important against Pokemon such as Porygon-Z, (AH) Landorus-Therian, and Incineroar. Mega Gardevoir can use other utility options such as Encore or and Taunt, which both serve in essence to break down stall or bulky Pokemon such as Mega Slowbro, Jumpluff, and Porygon2, who can no longer by preventing them from either setting up or recovering from damage dealt by Mega Gardevoir.

===================

**Steel-types**: Steel-type Pokemon can unfortunately resist both of Mega Gardevoir's STAB options and simultaneously hit Mega Gardevoir back with powerful and unresisted or super effective damage. Beware of Pokemon such as Mega Metagross, Mega Mawile, Genesect, Mega Aggron, Celesteela, Ferrothorn, Heatran and Jolly Kartana.

**Fast Physical Threats**: While Mega Gardevoir can take advantage of Will-O-Wisp to neutralize the damage dealt by slower, bulkier physical Pokemon, Mega Gardevoir it will have a hard time dealing with most faster physical attackers that it encounters, as the damage dealt by the initial attack will often be too much for Mega Gardevoir to contend with. Pokemon such as Mega Charizard X, Groundium Z Garchomp, Choice Scarf Haxorus, Mega Pinsir, (AC) and Victini will easily punch a hole into Mega Gardevoir.

**Fast Poison-types**: Mega Gardevoir is weak to super effective Poison-type damage, and thus so Pokemon like Naganadel, Nihilego, and Gunk Shot Greninja with reasonable Attack will be able to OHKO Mega Gardevoir.

**Exceptionally Specially Defensive Pokemon**: While Mega Gardevoir does have the ability to set up boost its Special Attack enough to allow it to beat most naturally specially defensive Pokemon, there are a few exceptions that are able to beat Mega Gardevoir before Mega Gardevoir can beat them. Z-Thunder Wave Togekiss can tank a Hyper Beam from speedy bulky Mega Gardervoir, Gardevoir and follow up with Thunder Wave into followed by Air Slash, and Meloetta will be able to set up Calm Mind alongside Mega Gardevoir (RC) while also being able to naturally tank Hyper Beam and take little damage from Psyshock, unlike Tapu Lele.

[OVERVIEW]

Mega Gardevoir is an admirable offensive nuke in the 1v1 metagame, able to set up on and one-shot several bulky Pokemon such as Mega Gyarados, Tapu Lele, and Zygarde-C with a Pixilate-boosted Hyper Beam. In addition, Mega Gardevoir also has access to tools such as Psyshock and Hyper Voice to provide coverage against Poison-type Pokemon and Substitute users, as well as access to utility options in the form of Will-O-Wisp and Calm Mind, which can be very useful in breaking through physically offensive threats such as Dragonite, Donphan, and Golem and bulkier special attackers such as Tapu Lele, Primarina, and Tapu Fini. Before Mega Evolving, the ability Trace allows Gardevoir to acquire the ability of its foe, which is indispensable against certain Pokemon such as Dragonite and Mega Gyarados. Unfortunately, its naturally poor defenses leaves Mega Gardevoir quite vulnerable to faster physical attackers that populate the metagame, such as Mega Lopunny, Garchomp, Mega Pinsir, (AC) and Choice Scarf Haxorus. It also has a terrible matchup against most of the Steel-types in the metagame, which all resist both Mega Gardevoir's Fairy- and Psychic-type STAB moves, such as Mega Metagross, Magearna, and Mega Mawile.

Running Icy Wind + Hidden Power Ground or Focus Blast also enables Mega Gardevoir to lure and beat the ever-present Magnezone by Tracing the effects of Sturdy to avoid being knocked out from any attack turn 1 and using Icy Wind to not only prevent an opposing Electroweb from leaving it slower but also break Magnezone's opposing Sturdy. After Sturdy is broken, attack with Hidden Power Ground or Focus Blast immediately. Run Hidden Power Ground for consistency against Magnezone and Focus Blast if you want to be able to potentially knock out other Pokemon such as non-Choice Scarf Excadrill and Mega Aggron. Note that Mega Gardevoir must have at least 321 Speed, or 224 Speed EVs with a Timid nature, in order to outspeed Magnezone after Icy Wind every time, after being potentially hit by Zap Cannon. Hyper Voice can be run on Mega Gardevoir in order to avoid the recharge associated with Hyper Beam and to have safer matchups against Substitute users such as Substitute + Flail Mega Lopunny, both Landorus formes, and Whimsicott.

===================

**Steel-types**: Steel-type Pokemon unfortunately resist both of Mega Gardevoir's STAB options and simultaneously hit Mega Gardevoir it back with powerful and unresisted or super effective damage. Beware of Pokemon such as Mega Metagross, Mega Mawile, Genesect, Mega Aggron, Celesteela, Ferrothorn, Heatran, (AC) and Jolly Kartana.
