ORAS OU Mega Gyarados Based Hyper Offense

Hello everyone, im going to post a RMT for my new team i created. Please feel free to comment/add/delete on any pokemon that you don't think that should be there. Enough of me and boring intros, lets get to the team:

Castile (Gyarados-Mega) (M) @ Gyaradosite
Ability: Intimidate
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Dragon Dance
- Earthquake/Ice Fang
- Crunch
- Waterfall

I wanted to use Mega Gyarados not only because of how boss he looks, but overall very bulky and hard-hitting once dragon dance gets set up. Also obviously my Mega. I decided to run dragon dance because that sets up for a mid-late game sweep once all of his counters and checks are gone. Waterfall hits insanely hard and OKHOs almost everything after one boost. Crunch is for STAB and coverage for my team. Earthquake I'm iffy about because I also used to run Ice Fang instead of Earthquake and it deals with steel types, but on the contrary, ice fang deals with dragon types quite nicely. Comments on whether to run EQ or Ice fang is appreciated!

Hydra (Dragalge) (F) @ Black Sludge
Ability: Adaptability
EVs: 228 HP / 252 SpA / 28 Spe
Modest Nature
- Draco Meteor
- Sludge Wave
- Focus Blast
- Toxic Spikes

I really needed a hazard setter for this team. Dragalage came to mind because of the neat typing, and ability to tank hits. Dragalge is also my fairy counter number 1. I usually lead with him 98% of the time because I set up toxic spikes layers. Focus Blast is for steels that wall this set badly especially Ferrothorn and to deal with dark types. Draco Meteor kills anything that doesn't resist it and OHKOS all dragons except for Goodra. (Really though, who uses Goodra in OU). Draco Meteor also kills the opponent's lead 70% of the time. Sludge wave is to deal with the ever-increasing popularity usage of Tangrowth and grass types in general that plague Mega Gyarados. Black Sludge is for health regain and stalling as much as possible.

Archimedes (Latios) @ Life Orb
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Draco Meteor
- Defog
- Psyshock
- Memento

I wanted an offensive defogger and Skarmory didn't fit "offensivley". I picked Latios because Latios puts offensive pressure on the opposing team and he is also my special sweeper. Draco Meteor hits insanely hard with life orb and OHKOs almost everything. Defog is to remove hazards for my Thundrus to proceed to troll the opponent into oblivion with Thunder Wave. Psyshock is for Chansey and all those annoying special walls. Memento is a great suicide move because it forces the opponent to switch out and buy me time to plan, and if they don't switch, i can select Gyarados and Intimidate+ Memento is quite trollish. Life Orb was given because of immense power gain.
:v4: Opponent's face after -2 attack.

Volcarona (F) @ Lum Berry
Ability: Flame Body
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Quiver Dance
- Fire Blast
- Giga Drain
- Bug Buzz

I cannot tell you people how much I respect Volcarona. It saved me from sure defeat many times because after one quiver dance, it becomes nearly unstoppable. Lum Berry is my item because many people have tried to sleep, poison, and paralyze this thing. Quiver Dance for +1 speed is fast enough to outspeed almost anything and it becomes a terrifying sweeper. Bug Buzz and Fire Blast are for STAB and dealing with Dark types and steels respectively, which my team has zero defense against if Volcarona is KO'd. Giga Drain is for health regain and allows it to regain health while dealing damage.

Magnus (Magnezone) @ Choice Specs
Ability: Magnet Pull
EVs: 168 HP / 252 SpA / 88 Spe
Modest Nature
- Volt Switch
- Hidden Power [Fire]
- Flash Cannon
- Thunderbolt

My team if you guys noticed has nothing to counter fairies. Volcarona does help but Azumarill destroys it with Aqua Jet. I turned to Magnezone for my problems. While it is slow it sports a monstrous 130 Special Attack, and it hits like a truck. I gave it choice specs so that it hits even harder. Volt Switch is to deal damage and withdraw when necessary. HP Fire is for Ferrothorn, which pose a threat to my team. Flash Cannon is for all those fairies that destroy this team and Thunderbolt is coverage for water and flying types and plus STAB.

Aeolus (Thundurus) @ Expert Belt
Ability: Prankster
IVs: 0 Atk / 30 Def
- Thunder Wave
- Thunderbolt
- Focus Blast
- Hidden Power [Ice]

Thundurus was in mind when I was making this team. It provides speed control, so no more getting outsped by opposing pokemon, it can cripple an entire team if left unchecked. All in all, it makes a great troll and puts extreme pressure on the opponent. Thunder wave is for trolling purposes. It brings some of the biggest threats in OU to their knees and allows me to finish them off one by one. Thunderbolt is STAB and provides as a back-up if Magnezone is dead. Focus Blast deals with pesky steel types and it provides coverage against dark types. HP Ice is for dragons that resist all of Thundurus' attacks. Expert Belt was in place because of the power gain if I attack super-effectively.

Hey Cisco cool team! Mega Gyara is a great Mega to use in OU, and definitely one of my favorites. Your team is already very solidly built, but it can be improved with some changes. Currently, your team is very weak to Offensive Grounds, like Sand Rush Excadrill and Scarf Landorus-T. Mega Gyarados is nice gesture, but once it Mega Evolves, it loses it's key Ground immunity. Sand Rush Drill can hit every single one of your Pokemon like a truck, with either Earthquake, Iron Head, or Rock Slide, and even outspeeds a +1 Volcarona. Scarf Landorus-T has the ability to hit every single one of your Pokemon with a SuperEffective attack, either Earthquake, Stone Edge, or U-Turn in the case of MegaGyara and Latios. Landorus can also negate a single DD attack boost MegaGyara is able to set up with Intimidate. Strong, fast, offensive Pokemon like Mega Lopunny and Weavile give your team trouble as well, hitting most Pokemon very hard with STAB attacks, even if they are not SuperEffective hits. Another thing I noticed your team as lacking was Stealth Rock. Stealth Rock is absolutely necessary on a team in ORAS, and Toxic Spikes are easily absorbed and don't affect every single Pokemon on the field, like Steel-Types or Levitating/Flying Pokemon. With all this in mind, lets jump in :)

gyarados-mega.png

First off, on your MegaGyara set, I would recommend using a SubDD moveset instead of DD+3 Attacks. The addition of Substitute on Mega Gyarados allows it to safely get off at least 1 DD, and makes it immune to status affects while it is behind said Substitute. MegaGyara is able to force out a lot of Pokemon, and it can use this to it's advantage, easily setting up Substitutes and then setting up DDs. SubDD Gyarados increases your team's chances against Pokemon like Mega Lopunny and WEavile, as they have to attack the Substitute first before they can attack MegaGyara, and MegaGyara can easily swoop (or swim I guess) in for the KO, OHKOing Weavile at +1 and having a 68.8% chance of OHKOing Mega Lopunny with Waterfall. Unfortunately, MegaGyara is forced to run Adamant to get the possible KO on Lopunny, and does not outspeed it at +1 Speed. Running Substitute over an attacking move also loses coverage against some key Pokemon, like Rotom-Wash with EQ and Grass-Types with Ice Fang.

dragalge.png
-->
landorus-therian.png

Dragalge is outclassed in OU, and it's hazards are rarely worth setting up. Pokemon like Latios and Hydreigon can hit harder than it if it is not holding Choice Specs, and both are immune to the ever-present Ground-Type attacks. Dragalge loses common lead match-ups against Pokemon like Garchomp and Landorus-T, both of which outspeed it and can OHKO it with Earthquake. Toxic Spikes, as I've said before, are rarely worth the effort to set up, as they can be easily removed by the switch-in of a Poison-Type Pokemon and don't affect Steel-Types or Flying-Types. Landorus-T is the better Pokemon for you as a hazard setter, mostly because it carries Stealth Rock. Stealth Rock is the best hazard move in the game, and Landorus-T is one of the best setters of them. Landorus provides good coverage in the form of the volatile EdgeQuake combo, hitting most Pokemon hard in the tier. Landorus is also able to generate momentum for the team in U-Turn and acts a great bird and offensive Ground-Type check, being able to check Excadrill in the sand and Scarf Landorus. Defensive Landorus is also one of the best checks to Mega Lopunny. The only real downside to running Landorus-T over Dragalge is that you lose the ability to hit Fairy-Types with a Poison-Type attack, but thats why you have Magnezone on the team. Keldeo and Weavile can also become a bit more problematic.

latios.png

I really like Latios on your team, and I like the role that it fills, acting as a hazard remover and a way to hit Grass-Type Pokemon for MegaGyara. However, I do have a qualm with running Memento on Latios. It is a neat notion, but you may find Hidden Power Fire or Thunderbolt to be a more effective use of Latios' final moveslot. HP Fire gives Latios the power to break through Steel-Types that MegaGyara can struggle to break through, like Ferrothorn, Skarmory, and Mega Scizor. Thunderbolt can be used to blow back Water-Type Pokemon that MegaGyara doesn't like as well, such as Manaphy, Keldeo, Slowbro, and Azumarill. . Memento is a neat little move that can allow MegaGyara to set up a Sub or a DD, but in the long run LO Latios has a lot more uses than hazard removal for your team and should be kept around for the mid-late game to nuke opponent's with Draco Meteor or Psyshock.

volcarona.png

I agree with you, Volcarona is an absolute god when it comes to sweeping teams. Volcarona is a threat that almost nobody expects, but one that almost immediately is recognized after a QD or two. I would however, change your Volcarona from a fully invested Speed + Lum Berry to a more bulky 72 HP / 252 SpA / 184 Spe + Passho Berry. This new EV spread allows Volcarona to take more hits from opposing Pokemon, while still outspeeding a variety of threats after a QD. Running a Passho Berry over a Lum Berry allows Volcarona to take a Banded Aqua Jet from Azumarill and retaliate with a Giga Drain, which has about a 44% chance to OHKO 172 HP Azumarill. Passho Berry also comes in handy when taking hits from Pokemon like Specs Keldeo, allowing Volcarona to live a Specs Hydro Pump and have a 44% chance to OHKO Keldeo with a Giga Drain, should you be brave enough to keep Volc in. However, running a Passho Berry as opposed to a Lum Berry leaves Volcarona open to Prankster Thunder Wave from Pokemon like Thundurus and Kelfki, but overall the Passho Berry will come in handy more often.

thundurus.png

This is yet a small change, but running a Life Orb over Ebelt on Thundurus improves it's overall offensive capabilities, as it is able to guarantee a 3HKO on CM Clefable, an OHKO on Defensive Landorus-T, and guarantee the 2HKO on Rotom-Wash with Thunderbolt. Overall there is no downside to running Life Orb over Ebelt, except for the loss in HP after each attack. Should you desire it, moves like Knock Off and Sludge Wave can be run to deal with Chansey and Clefable respectively, as Thundurus lures out both Pokemon.

Overall your team was pretty good to begin with, with a nice defensive backbone in water/dragon/steel types. Now it is better with a water/dragon/steel/ground defensive backbone, and an even better offensive one. Your Magnezone set is wonderfully too, so I didn't change that. I don't think I missed anything, and I'm pretty sure I hit all the justifications I wanted. If I figure out I missed something, I'll probably notify you and just ninja-edit into the rate. The addition of defensive Landorus-T greatly improves the team against Pokemon like Sand Rush Excadrill and Mega Lopunny, but the team will still struggle with Pokemon like Weavile, the best play being to come in with Magnezone after Weavile gets a KO and go for the Specs Flash Cannon, as Mag is able to live a LO Low Kick after SR. Weavile can however, find it hard to hit Gyarados in it's regular form for large amounts of damage, especially after an Intimidate. Feel free to ask if you have any questions.

Enjoy n_n

Thank you for the RMT! I did test the team out and it won 8/10 battles. Nicely done! Anyone else want to RMT?
