MEGA GYARADOS AND FRIENDS
Hi this is my 2nd RMT and probably most promising team as of yet. I've been playing with this team for about 2 months now on and off and I decided I'm done lurking and am in need of help improving this team further. As the title suggests the team is played around Mega Gyarados, a very underused OU mega (see what i did there? :D) nowadays. Comments and suggestions are highly appreciated as I am only able to get a peak of about 1380 on this team, which is not really impressive. Anyways, here we go.
My team started off with a Mega Gyarados. Then I paired it with an SPDef Talon flame since they have good synergy together.
Then I wanted to have a volturn core so I splashed on the brothers Lando and Thundy.
Lastly, I needed a defogger, hence Latias. I also needed a fairy killer and so I added Scizor.
I have tried and tested multiple sets for each but I think I've managed to screen out the moves. EV spread could use some help tho.
THE TEAM IN-DEPTH
Gyarados-Mega @ Gyaradosite
Ability: Moxie
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Waterfall
- Crunch
- Dragon Dance
- Ice Fang /EQ
The Mega pokemon of the team, Mega Gyarados packs so much power even after just 1 DD. EVs are for maximum damage output and speed for late game sweeps. The Ability is moxie instead of intimidate because I have a hard time with bisharp getting defiant boosts on 2 of my pokemon, and the attack boost is great when I delay mega evolving then picking a poke off. Waterfall and Crunch powerful stab moves. Ice fang > EQ since it hits grass types and dragons hard which are prevalent in OU. My main Zard X and Lando check. Very underrated mega tho it has tons of weaknesses.
Talonflame
Ability: Gale Wings
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Atk / 252 SpD
Careful Nature
- Roost
- Acrobatics
- Will-O-Wisp
- Swords Dance
A custom SPdef Talonflame set I've tested for months. Checks grass, fighting, and bug types that threated MegaGya and is my second win-con. Roost is for reliable recovery. Will-o-wisp for physical attackers. Bare talon with acrobatics hits like brave bird without the recoil. SD is for attack boosting. SD over Bulk up so that Talon can 0HKO Keld after 1 SD.
Latias @ Leftovers
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 252 HP / 4 SpA / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Healing Wish
- Psychic
- Draco Meteor
- Defog
DEFOG DEFOG DEFOG. I can not tell you guys how much this guy has saved me from losing. Defog is priceless since I have 2 poke that suffer from this too much. Dual Stab is good and hits stuff like MVenu, KyuB, Gengar hard. Leftovers > LO for longetivity and since roost can't fit in the moveset anymore. Latias > Latios for Healing wish. This let's me play a bit with my cores early game only to be healed up fully. EVs are for bulk and speed as I don't really use him offensively that much. This guy is also my main Keld check and status sponge.
Landorus-Therian @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Intimidate
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Superpower/Knock Off
- Earthquake
- U-turn
- Stone Edge
I used to run a defensive landorus only to be pathetically played around by most mons like HP Ice MegaMane for example. I also didn't have an answer to fast electric types which just wrecks every other pokemon in my team and kites lando-t. So I just went full offense with scarf and ditched SR since I really didn't need it too much having 3 dancers in my team. This also surprises guys and knocks out mons with a fast EQ most of the time when they become careless. Superpower for Ferro and Magnezones while Knock off for item removal (Yes I'm looking at you, Chansey). My soft talon check and intimidate mon.
Thundurus @ Choice Specs
Ability: Prankster
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Modest Nature
- Thunder Wave
- Thunderbolt/VSwitch
- Focus Blast
- Hidden Power [Ice]
The thunder GOD! Choice specs modest max SpA Thundy hits like a truck assuring 0HKOs against Chomp, SpDef Gliscor, and even Lando-T's. Specs Focus blast even 2HKOs AV SpDef Ttar in sand which catches people off guard all the time. The only down side to this is the lower speed but that is fixed with prankster Twave which answers setup dancer problems for my team. Thunderbolt is stab while VS forms a very fast V-turn core with Lando, but I use Thunderbolt most of the time for those pesky bulky waters and bird spammers.
Scizor @ Life Orb
Ability: Technician
EVs: 248 HP / 252 Atk / 8 SpD
Adamant Nature
- Bullet Punch
- Bug Bite
- Roost
- Swords Dance
My third dancer and hard non-flamethrower Clef check. Roost>Pursuit for longetivity, SD for that incredible boost combined with Technician LO Bullet Punch, unresisted hits normally result in 0HKOs even after just 1 boost. T-wave is a problem tho but Lando blankets that problem. EVs are standard with max attack for that insane tech bullet punch. Bug Bite > U-turn for tech boost.
I have no answer to this freaking golum wannabe aside from boosting non stop with scizor and hoping that he doesnt switch out. Talon flame may out last this guy tho but loses straight out to foul play variants and my only hope is to revenge kill it with other mons or Gyara. I have a hard time with stall tbh, good thing stall is very rare these days.
Flamethrower variants give me nightmares. There's always the x button tho.
Scarfed Electric types with ice moves. Speed > Lando = GG. Scarfed Kyurem-B also wrecks my team.
