MEGA GYARADOS AND FRIENDS

Hi this is my 2nd RMT and probably most promising team as of yet. I've been playing with this team for about 2 months now on and off and I decided I'm done lurking and am in need of help improving this team further. As the title suggests the team is played around Mega Gyarados, a very underused OU mega (see what i did there? :D) nowadays. Comments and suggestions are highly appreciated as I am only able to get a peak of about 1380 on this team, which is not really impressive. Anyways, here we go.

My team started off with a Mega Gyarados. Then I paired it with an SPDef Talon flame since they have good synergy together.

Then I wanted to have a volturn core so I splashed on the brothers Lando and Thundy.

scizor.gif

Lastly, I needed a defogger, hence Latias. I also needed a fairy killer and so I added Scizor.
I have tried and tested multiple sets for each but I think I've managed to screen out the moves. EV spread could use some help tho.

THE TEAM IN-DEPTH

gyarados-mega.gif

Gyarados-Mega @ Gyaradosite
Ability: Moxie
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Waterfall
- Crunch
- Dragon Dance
- Ice Fang /EQ

The Mega pokemon of the team, Mega Gyarados packs so much power even after just 1 DD. EVs are for maximum damage output and speed for late game sweeps. The Ability is moxie instead of intimidate because I have a hard time with bisharp getting defiant boosts on 2 of my pokemon, and the attack boost is great when I delay mega evolving then picking a poke off. Waterfall and Crunch powerful stab moves. Ice fang > EQ since it hits grass types and dragons hard which are prevalent in OU. My main Zard X and Lando check. Very underrated mega tho it has tons of weaknesses.

talonflame.gif

Talonflame
Ability: Gale Wings
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Atk / 252 SpD
Careful Nature
- Roost
- Acrobatics
- Will-O-Wisp
- Swords Dance
A custom SPdef Talonflame set I've tested for months. Checks grass, fighting, and bug types that threated MegaGya and is my second win-con. Roost is for reliable recovery. Will-o-wisp for physical attackers. Bare talon with acrobatics hits like brave bird without the recoil. SD is for attack boosting. SD over Bulk up so that Talon can 0HKO Keld after 1 SD.

latias.gif

Latias @ Leftovers
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 252 HP / 4 SpA / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Healing Wish
- Psychic
- Draco Meteor
- Defog
DEFOG DEFOG DEFOG. I can not tell you guys how much this guy has saved me from losing. Defog is priceless since I have 2 poke that suffer from this too much. Dual Stab is good and hits stuff like MVenu, KyuB, Gengar hard. Leftovers > LO for longetivity and since roost can't fit in the moveset anymore. Latias > Latios for Healing wish. This let's me play a bit with my cores early game only to be healed up fully. EVs are for bulk and speed as I don't really use him offensively that much. This guy is also my main Keld check and status sponge.

landorus-therian.gif

Landorus-Therian @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Intimidate
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Superpower/Knock Off
- Earthquake
- U-turn
- Stone Edge
I used to run a defensive landorus only to be pathetically played around by most mons like HP Ice MegaMane for example. I also didn't have an answer to fast electric types which just wrecks every other pokemon in my team and kites lando-t. So I just went full offense with scarf and ditched SR since I really didn't need it too much having 3 dancers in my team. This also surprises guys and knocks out mons with a fast EQ most of the time when they become careless. Superpower for Ferro and Magnezones while Knock off for item removal (Yes I'm looking at you, Chansey). My soft talon check and intimidate mon.

thundurus.gif

Thundurus @ Choice Specs
Ability: Prankster
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Modest Nature
- Thunder Wave
- Thunderbolt/VSwitch
- Focus Blast
- Hidden Power [Ice]
The thunder GOD! Choice specs modest max SpA Thundy hits like a truck assuring 0HKOs against Chomp, SpDef Gliscor, and even Lando-T's. Specs Focus blast even 2HKOs AV SpDef Ttar in sand which catches people off guard all the time. The only down side to this is the lower speed but that is fixed with prankster Twave which answers setup dancer problems for my team. Thunderbolt is stab while VS forms a very fast V-turn core with Lando, but I use Thunderbolt most of the time for those pesky bulky waters and bird spammers.

scizor.gif

Scizor @ Life Orb
Ability: Technician
EVs: 248 HP / 252 Atk / 8 SpD
Adamant Nature
- Bullet Punch
- Bug Bite
- Roost
- Swords Dance
My third dancer and hard non-flamethrower Clef check. Roost>Pursuit for longetivity, SD for that incredible boost combined with Technician LO Bullet Punch, unresisted hits normally result in 0HKOs even after just 1 boost. T-wave is a problem tho but Lando blankets that problem. EVs are standard with max attack for that insane tech bullet punch. Bug Bite > U-turn for tech boost.

sableye-mega.png

I have no answer to this freaking golum wannabe aside from boosting non stop with scizor and hoping that he doesnt switch out. Talon flame may out last this guy tho but loses straight out to foul play variants and my only hope is to revenge kill it with other mons or Gyara. I have a hard time with stall tbh, good thing stall is very rare these days.

clefable.gif

Flamethrower variants give me nightmares. There's always the x button tho.

thundurus-therian.gif
electivire.gif
kyurem-black.gif
magnezone.gif

Scarfed Electric types with ice moves. Speed > Lando = GG. Scarfed Kyurem-B also wrecks my team.

THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR READING! COMMENTS AND SUGGESTIONS ARE HIGHLY APPRECIATED, I'D LIKE TO IMPROVE MY TEAM AND YOUR OPINIONS ARE ALL WELCOME! GOOD DAY!

nice team but your thundurus must be timid nature so you can outspeed things like latios and latias and i suggest running some speed on scizor if your going to run SD LO set. Maybe enough speed to out speed 219 speed rotom-w and also a stealth rock user would benefit the team cause SR punish your opponent switches.

Thanks for the suggestion!
I did run timid on thundurus some time ago but the spread is to ensure 1hko against Dragon ground types and people don't expect a modest Thundy anyways so as to give away a mon.
I would consider your suggestions regarding running speed on scizor. Can you suggest an SR setter and which to replace on my mons? Because currently I don't have a hard time even without hazards as I defog them anyways.

Well since you have lando why not make landorus SR maybe a defense set or a offensive earth plate set. if you make it defense lando i suggest going 248 hp 252 def 8 sp def and with 30 iv's in speed so you can a slower u-turn against your opponent defense lando. You have priority in BB tflame and thunder wave thundurus and BP from scizor so you wont get swept that easily.

Hi very interesting team. I have a couple of minor changes right off the bat. 248 HP in talonflame to give you an odd number for stealth rocks. This will help you to switch in twice from full in the odd occasion where you don't get leftovers. In the current meta, neither scarf landorus nor specs thundurus is especially effective. Additionally, your team is torn apart by bisharp. You have no entry hazards from what I saw so I would suggest a few things. First I would change your scarf landorus to a defensive garchomp with the spread 248 HP, 92 speed and the rest in defense. That spread allows you to outspeed any variant of bisharp and gives you a nice pivot for lopunny. Next, I would change your specs thundurus to a life orb thunderwave set. You are currently very weak to a charizard x and this will allow you to cripple it before it sweeps you. You could run 3 attacks (focus blast/superpower/knock off) or nasty plot (which i would recommend) with hidden power ice and thunderbolt. You are also very weak to diancie and latios. Scizor may look like an answer but both commonly pack hidden power fire and can catch you on a switch. I would recommend you change to a clefable set (HP 252, 172 def, 84 spdef, calm nature). This will allow you to take any 2 hits from diancie, as well as lopunny, weavile, latios and kyurem. I would recommend you go with a calm mind flamethrower set, to lure ferrothorn and skarmory which pose a threat to your gyarados. For your gyarados set, I find that substitute is the most effective set right now. It allows you to capitalize on forced switches vs mons like heatran.

These changes should make your team more effective in the current meta. As an aside, latios and latias are somewhat unreliable as defog users with the amount of tyranitar used in recent weeks. I would therefore suggest that in the future, using 3 mons weak to rocks like gyarados, talonflame and thundurus is not particularly favourable.

Hey, nice team you have, but i do have some suggestions for it :

Choice Specs on Thundurus is a very bad item since Electric stab isn't really spammable and Life Orb is a better choice most of time because with it you will grab some OHKO/2HKO without having to predicting the incomming switch-in.

I don't like this Latias spread, it should be 252 Speed/184 SpeAtk/72 Hp, 72 Hp are used to avoid the 2HKO from Hidden Power Ice from LO Thundurus after rocks, 252 Speed are used to tie with other 110 Bs speed mons and the rest in SpeAtk to incrase the power of Draco Meteor. Psyshock is better than Psychic most of time because it allow you to hit harder mons such as CM Keldeo, M-Gardevoir and Chansey.

I don't really think that Scizor is the best last mon for your team since even with it, you will still have problem with Hidden Power Fire Lati@s which is very threating for your team, i'd suggest to use Jirachi instead of him : Jirachi will give you a decent answer to Flamethrower Clefable, Hp Fire Diancie and to Hp Fire Lati@s, it will give you too the Stealth Rocks support needed on every teams because its one of the best move in the game since they'l allow you to weaken common checks to your mons.

You could try to use only 232 Speed on Lando-T since with it, you will able to outspeed Scarf Jolly Excadrill and you will put the rest of the ev in hp.

As iloveleague mentionned it before me, you should use 248 hp in Talonflame which give you an odd number for stealth rocks.
